Black Teen Who Shot Baby Sentenced To Life In Prison Via NewsOne reports: Georgia teen convicted of fatally shooting a baby in a stroller was sentenced Thursday to spend the rest of his life in prison with no chance of parole after the grieving mother asked a judge to punish the gunman for taking “the love of my life.” De’Marquise Elkins, 18, stood silent and showed no emotion as he was sentenced in a courtroom less than two weeks after a jury found him guilty of murder in the slaying of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago during a robbery attempt. “His first word was never heard. His first sentence was never said,” Sherry West, the baby’s mother, said through tears on the witness stand as she read a statement made to rhyme like a poem or a nursery rhyme. “He never got to sleep in a toddler bed.” The baby was in his stroller and out for a walk with his mother when he was shot between the eyes March 21 in the Georgia coastal city of Brunswick. West, and a younger teenager charged as an accomplice, both testified at trial that Elkins killed the baby after his mother refused to give up her purse. The killing drew national attention and Elkins’ trial was moved more than 300 miles away to the Atlanta suburbs because of pretrial publicity. Elkins was spared the death penalty because the killing occurred when he was 17, which the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled is too young to face capital punishment. Twerk Fail Video Was A Hoax Via HuffPo reports: If you’ve been on the Internet in the last week, you most likely saw a video entitled “Worst Twerk Fail EVER – Girl Catches On Fire!” In the video, a girl performs a suggestive dance routine that goes completely awry, ending with the young lady apparently catching on fire. The video instantly went viral, racking up over 9 million views in less than a week. Multiple TV and news outlets — including this site — reported on the video at face value. But until Jimmy Kimmel interviewed her on his talk show on Monday night, no one got the full story behind the viral video. Turns out the entire video was a hoax staged by Kimmel and his show. In the extended version of the clip, Kimmel walks through the door and extinguishes the fire. Kimmel interviewed the woman, who in actuality is a stuntwoman named Daphne Avalon. “We didn’t send it to any TV station, we didn’t tweet it,” Kimmel said. “We just put it on YouTube and let the magic happen.” Best video ever? Woman Tries To Kill Ex’s Son With Dumbbell Via CBS Balitmore reports: Prince George’s County police say a woman broke into her ex-boyfriend’s home and tried to bludgeon his sleeping 8-year-old son to death. Police announced Tuesday that Helen Marie Newsome, 26, broke into the home in Landover over the weekend. After hiding for more than 12 hours until the boy’s father went to work Saturday morning, police say Newsome covered the boy’s head with a pillow and beat him with a dumbbell weight. But the boy fought back and managed to escape to a neighbor’s home. Newsome jumped out a window, but police say she was arrested nearby. The boy’s father recently broke up with Newsome. She is charged with first-degree attempted murder. CBS

If Shapiro can get OJ off, this should be a breeze OJ Lawyer Robert Shapiro Will Rep Lamar Odom In His DUI Case According to TMZ reports : Lamar Odom needs some legal firepower after his DUI arrest, and its OJ Simpson’s lawyer Robert Shapiro to the rescue … TMZ has learned. Lamar has hired Shapiro in what promises to be a sticky situation. TMZ broke the story … Lamar was popped early Friday AM on the 101 Freeway … and cops believe he was under the influence of both drugs and booze. Shapiro is known for plea bargaining. These cases are pretty standard — he’ll probably plead no contest to one count of DUI and get probation. He’ll also be required to attend an alcohol ed class. And, since he refused to submit to a blood-alcohol test, he’ll automatically get his driver’s license yanked for 1 year. No getting around that. This has Kris Jenner’s paw prints all over it. She’s used Shapiro for other legal messes in the past — most recently Robert Kardashian Jr.’s criminal battery and theft case. Ironically, Kris’ ex-hubby, the late Robert Kardashian, repped OJ Simpson along with Shapiro. Kris was best friends with Nicole Brown Simpson and felt OJ was guilty as sin.
