Lien Back: Fat Joe Heads To Miami Prison To Serve Four Month Sentence For $3 Million Tax Evasion

Joey going to jail ! Fat Joe Heads To Miami Prison For Tax Evasion Via TMZ reports: Fat Joe has just turned himself in to prison to serve his 4 month sentence for tax evasion. The rapper — real name Joseph Cartagena — is officially in custody at the Federal Detention Center in Miami. As TMZ previously reported, Joe pled guilty back in December to stiffing Uncle Sam on a boatload of taxes for the years 2007 and 2008 … more than $1 million total. He originally faced up to two years in the slammer for the crime — but was ultimately sentenced to just 4 months and a $15,000 fine, plus one-year supervised release. Maybe he can do a duet with Wesley Snipes and Ja Rule when he gets out… Continue reading

Zimmerman Ain’t Isht: Trayvon Martin Killer Demands Florida Fork Over $300K To Cover His Legal Bills

You can’t be serious … George Zimmerman Asks Florida To Cover Legal Bills George Zimmerman , the Neighborhood Watch volunteer who killed Trayvon Martin, plans to ask the state of Florida to cover $200,000 to $300,000 of his legal expenses. Via Orlando Sentinel reports: Because Zimmerman was acquitted, state law requires Florida to pay all his legal costs, minus the biggest one: the fee that goes to his lawyers. That includes the cost of expert witnesses, travel, depositions, photocopies, even that animated 3-D video that defense attorneys showed jurors during closing argument that depicts Trayvon punching Zimmerman. Defense attorney Mark O’Mara said Monday that he would soon prepare a motion, asking Circuit Judge Debra S. Nelson to authorize the payments. That motion, he said, “is in the works.” His office is still collecting numbers, he said, but he estimated the request would total $200,000 to $300,000. That would be on top of the estimated $902,000 that public agencies already have spent on Zimmerman’s five-week second-degree murder trial that ended July 13. The 29-year-old Zimmerman was found not guilty of second-degree murder or manslaughter by a six-member Seminole County jury for shooting Trayvon, an unarmed black high-school junior from Miami Gardens, in Sanford Feb. 26, 2012. Moments before the fight and shooting, Zimmerman had called police, describing the teenager as suspicious. O’Mara gave a ballpark estimate of the number of hours he had worked on the case: 40 hours a week for 16 months. At $400-an-hour, he would be owed slightly more than $1 million. That does not include any of the work done by co-counsel Don West, who bills at $350 an hour, or O’Mara’s partner, Lorna Truett. Zimmerman is REALLY going to need those new guns he’s been shopping for if he’s trying to pull this stunt…

For Discussion: Rand Paul Says Food Stamp Programs Are “Just Like Slavery” For Low-Income Minority Families..Do You Agree?

Rand Paul Compares Food Stamps To Slavery GOP babbling bigot Rand Paul is still out doing what he does best: put his foot in his mouth so far that he can’t get it out. In his latest rambling rant full of ridiculousness, Paul is likening food stamps to slavery, suggesting that the government providing food assistance to those who need it is equivalent to forcing people into labor. Oh. via Think Progress Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) equated government programs that prevent people from dying of starvation with slavery in a new profile of his medical practice published today, revealing himself to hold a view of the role of government so limited as to nearly define the state out of existence. Paul’s philosophical excursus is buried in the midst of the too-friendly-for-parody article (it ends with a patient waxing poetic about how Paul “loves people“), but the words are unmistakably Randian. “As humans, yeah, we do have an obligation to give people water, to give people food, to give people health care,” Paul allowed, “but it’s not a right because once you conscript people and say, ‘Oh, it’s a right,’ then really you’re in charge, it’s servitude, you’re in charge of me and I’m supposed to do whatever you tell me to do.” The comments are an echo of his 2011 claim that accepting a human right to health care “means you believe in slavery,” but the Senator’s new variation on the theme is notable because it puts the reasoning behind the crazy in stark relief. Particularly, this line: “You don’t have a right to anyone else’s labor. Food’s pretty important, do you have a right to the labor of the farmer?” The basic idea is that if slavery means forcing people to do things, and saying people have a right to food means the government should require farmers to provide it to them, then a right to food means the enslavement of farmers. A moderately bright high school student could spot the leap of logic here: no one’s forcing anyone to farm against their will. Like all of Paul Rand’s other bullish, this sounds ridiculous to us. What do you think, Bossip fam?

For Discussion: Tavis Smiley Says Obama Should Be More “ML King-like And Not King-lite”

“You talkin’ to me?!?!” Tavis Smiley Says President Obama Should Be More Like Martin Luther King Jr. With the 50th Anniversary of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King’s march on Washington approaching this Wednesday, the White House announced that President Barack Obama will take the podium to deliver a much-anticipated public address commemorating MLK’s legacy and his lauded “I Have A Dream” speech. Obviously there will be many comparisons drawn between Dr. King and President Obama before, during, and after this speech, but Tavis Smiley asserts that Obama and Dr. King are dissimilar not necessarily in form, but in function. Via WashingtonPost Since the White House announced that President Obama will speak to the nation on Wednesday from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech, I have been asked the same questions again and again: Is it appropriate for the president to occupy that sacred space? Does Obama have the moral authority to speak where King spoke? Does anyone? My honest answer to these questions: I don’t know. But here is what I do know. The future of our democracy is inextricably linked to how seriously we take King’s legacy. A legacy of unarmed truth and unconditional love. A legacy of brilliant prose and prophetic witness. The president’s decision to honor the march is proper and commendable. But when he stands where King stood and delivers a speech of his own, he inevitably invites comparisons between his words and King’s. I hope Obama rises to the challenge to be truly King-like, not just King-lite. His speech cannot be full of great sound bites but devoid of sound public policy. Smiley goes on to say: The unsettling truth is that during the Obama era, black America has fallen even further behind. The African American unemployment rate, for instance, remains stubbornly and disproportionately high at 12.6 percent, compared with the national rate of 7.4 percent. And while private-sector jobs are experiencing a slight uptick, the lack of public-sector jobs is suffocating black livelihoods. Sadly, a few black chief executives notwithstanding, race still matters in the private sector. Education is not the great equalizer. I know too many black Ivy League graduates whose degrees cannot close this gap, and heaven help you if you’re applying for a private-sector job with a “black-sounding” name. Researchers have found that these applicants receive up to 50 percent fewer callbacks than applicants with “white-sounding” names. Black misery is the fierce urgency of now. Do we want history to record that black folk fared even worse under the first black president? I certainly do not. We all understand that Obama is a politician and King was a prophet. But does that mean that the president, even with the structural and political constraints of his high office, cannot speak more truth? …But if Obama is to be transformational and not just transactional, a statesman and not just another politician, a thermostat and not just a thermometer, then it’s time for him to use his power to help regulate the temperature of our society and not just settle for recording the temperature of public opinion. It’s time to take some risks. To stop playing it safe in the second term. To tell the truth about the suffering in America that’s being rendered invisible simply because we choose not to see it. What kind of speech do you expect from POTUS Barry on Wednesday? What issues and topics to you want to hear him address? Image via AP

Homeland Security Employee Goes Ham Asking For Genocide To White Folks “Put A Foot In The Cr**kers Azz!” [Video]

You are warned, Ayo Kimathi uses some HARSH language. Rawreport : A new report by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) identifies Ayo Kimathi, who works for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) division of Homeland Security, as “the Irritated Genie,” the author of a site that advocates the mass murder of whites and homosexuals. The site, War on the Horizon, dedicates its “time and expertise to properly educating Black people to prepare for Racial Warfare…that will mean the end of white rule on this planet or the end of the Black Race as we know it.” Because he is employed by a law enforcement agency, Kimathi had to obtain official permission, in writing, for his outside activities. He told his supervisors that his anti-white, anti-LGBT site was an entertainment outfit on which he sold videos of concerts and lectures. He referred to it only by the acronym “WOH,” making it difficult for his superiors to investigate. A former supervisor who spoke to the SPLC said that if Kimathi had “adequately and truthfully described his group,” he would not have been granted permission. He is responsible for procuring guns and ammunition for ICE, and according to this same supervisor, is one of the division’s public faces, representing it at various trade shows and vendor events. rawreport youtube
