Former Victoria’s Secret banger and mega-supermodel Miranda Kerr is profiled in a new Net-A-Porter story where she talks about retiring from being one of the faces of the famous underwear brand, being targeted by the Hollywood bling ring and how she balances her huge career with a happy marriage — and we really wanted to share her philosophy. Check out this quote about how she approaches marriage: “I am quite dominant in my career, so what really works for me when I come home, is to relax more into the feminine side. If you’re really an alpha female, you don’t allow [your partner] to have the space to feel like the man in the relationship. Maybe I am too traditional, but men feel important when you ask for their help, instead of thinking you can do it all on your own.” In a more candid mode, she adds: “My mistake in my relationships has been to feel that I can do it all on my own: I don’t need a man. That is definitely a mistake. Women generally want to feel loved and appreciated. It’s something that I am working on every day, trust me! This is a step in a positive direction by labeling obesity a disease. Obesity Labeled A Disease According to CNN One word could have a big impact on the way doctors treat obesity in the United States. The American Medical Association has adopted a new policy that officially labels obesity as a disease “requiring a range of medical interventions to advance obesity treatment and prevention,” according to an AMA statement. The physicians’ group voted to approve the obesity policy, among others, on Tuesday during its annual meeting in Chicago. The U.S. obesity rate increased almost 50% between 1997 and 2012, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Today, nearly 30% of American adults are considered obese, and the problem is almost as prevalent in kids. Childhood obesity has more than doubled in the past 30 years, the CDC says. Obesity for adults is defined as having a body mass index, or BMI, of 30 or higher. BMI is a way to measure body fat based on your weight and height. (Calculate your BMI here) Being obese increases your risk factor for developing many serious conditions, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, liver disease, sleep apnea and osteoarthritis. In fact, obesity has been linked to almost every chronic disease in some way or another. “Recognizing obesity as a disease will help change the way the medical community tackles this complex issue,” AMA board member Dr. Patrice Harris said in a statement. Obesity has long been recognized as a disease by other groups, but this move by the AMA sends a strong signal to the medical community, said CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta. Some experts worry suddenly declaring one-third of Americans “ill” or “sick” will increase the desire for quick interventions or medications and discourage people from making the lifestyle changes known to combat obesity. On the other hand, AMA’s declaration could help increase funding for future obesity research. It could also lead to payment for doctors who want to simply talk to patients about nutrition or exercise — time that’s not currently reimbursed by insurance plans. Identifying obesity as a disease may also help in reducing the stigma often associated with being overweight, said Joe Nadglowski, president and CEO of the Obesity Action Coalition. “Obesity has been considered for a long time to be a failure of personal responsibility — a simple problem of eating too much and exercising too little,” he said. “But it’s a complex disease… we’re hoping attitudes will change.” Do you think obesity is like other diseases or is it a result of people feeding their faces? Not so in downstate Montgomery County, where Republican Party chairman Jim Allen sent a race-baiting email to a blogger on Tuesday, targeting an African-American former Miss America who wants to unseat incumbent Republican Rep. Rodney Davis in a 2014 congressional primary election. ‘Rodney Davis will win’ the primary against Erika Harold, Allen wrote, ‘and the love child of the D.N.C. will be back in S**tcago by May of 2014 working for some law firm that needs to meet their quota for minority hires.’ ‘The little queen touts her abstinence and she won the crown because she got bullied in school,,,boohoo..kids are cruel, life sucks and you move on,’ Allen continued. ‘Now, miss queen is being used like a street walker and her pimps are the DEMOCRAT PARTY and RINO REPUBLICANS…These pimps want something they can’t get,,, the seat held by a conservative REPUBLICAN Rodney Davis and Nancy Pelosi can’t stand it.’ ‘RINO’ is a derisive term that stands for ‘Republican In Name Only’ – a jab that refers to members of the GOP who are centrist on some issues or lean libertarian on others. Allen’s complaint, that Harold is a Democratic party-friendly alternative to the more conservative Rep. Davis, is not new, but Harold insists that she’s as conservative as anyone on the political right. ‘At this point in the Republican Party’s history, as it’s trying to reach out to new voters,’ Harold said in a recent Fox & Friends interview, ‘I think I can both espouse conservative values and reach out to nontraditional voters.’ The 13th Illinois Congressional District is in an agriculture-heavy area of the state, and usually divorced from the rough-and-tumble of upstate Chicago political mudslinging. Ibendahl told MailOnline that Allen’s choice of words isn’t welcome. ‘Outrageous comments like those of Jim Allen are why we as Republicans fail to gain any respect from minority voters,’ he said. ‘If officials in my party (the Republican Party) fail to understand how destructive it is to attack an impressive person like Erika Harold merely because she dares to challenge the good-old-boys, the GOP will remain a losing party for decades.’ ‘This stay in the back-of-the-bus mentality,’ Ibendahl added, ‘destroys any hope the Republican Party has for regaining momentum in future elections.’ Jim Allen, Erika Harold, Rep. Davis and the National Congressional Campaign Committee did not respond to requests for comment. The Republican Party will never gain the respect for minority voters because they have their heads up their azz. Video of Paris’ deposition was played in court Tuesday … and the highlight was her description of Michael’s relationship with ex-nanny Grace Rwaramba. In the depo … Paris explained to attorneys for AEG that Michael warned his children about Grace, telling them … “She was sneaky. She wasn’t an honest person, and she lied a lot.” Paris said she didn’t know specifically what she lied about — but then seemed to suddenly remember one freaky detail about Grace sneaking into Michael’s bed while they were staying in hotels.
