10-year-old Michael Thomas Jr.’s family is understandably concerned as their child was handcuffed and humiliated in front of a local shop last week. NBC Chicago reports that police say they’d received multiple calls reporting a “10-to 12-year-old with a gun” running loose in the area. They decided that Thomas fit the description, and claim that Michael ran briefly when they confronted him. In other reports, the boy claims that officers told him that he was a juvenile escapee with a gun on him, though he denied it. It’s unclear which reason the officers are sticking to as the reason they chose to handcuff the boy. As you can see in the above video, the little boy was so frightened by the incident that he was crying, shaking, and even urinated on himself out of fear. SMH. WENN.com Issa Rae Speaks On The Next Season Of Insecure The upcoming season of HBO’s Insecure will be on our television screens in just a couple months, and luckily for us, creator and star Issa Rae is giving us some inside scoop as to what fans can expect from the series in the coming episodes. Rae spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about her popular show, and how difficult it is to be both the star and the driving force of the production. She went in on that dynamic explaining: “As a creator, you think you’re just going to create, but there are so many moving parts and so many business aspects. So having to be business-minded while trying to be creative and not care what is going to sell is a lot. Sometimes I want to be in actor mode, not producer mode, or vice versa.” The Insecure star then goes on to talk about what themes are going to make their way into season 3 of the series, highlighting masculinity and adulthood. Rae explained, “I love Black masculinity as it relates to Black women,” she said. “I think that’s something interesting that we haven’t gotten a chance to explore yet — and specifically toxic male Black masculinity as it relates to black women. I’m trying to find a way to explore that and get a rounded storyline that isn’t preachy.” She continued on saying, “This season is about adulting in a new way. I think we’ve watched our characters really fumble and f–k up — and in some ways in your 20s you are allowed that — but this season is about not acting like you’re naive anymore or that you don’t know better. So it is about, what does it look like to know better and to do better?” The characters on Insecure could definitely use a lot of knowing and doing better, so this will be an interesting change to the show. We’ll see just how much growing up they’ve done when the series returns on August 12.
Desiree Navarro/WireImage Jimmy Iovine & Dr. Dre Are Fighting A Huge Beats Royalty Lawsuit Having one of the biggest headphone brands in the game isn’t always glorious–take it from the guys behind Beats. The origin of Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine’s Beats company is currently under debate in Los Angeles Superior Court, because entrepreneur Steven Lamar is suing the duo for allegedly screwing him out of a whopping $100 million in royalties. Lamar is claiming that he’s the one who brought the idea of a celebrity-endorsed headphone line to Dre and Iovine all the way back in 2006, according to reports from Billboard . After the trio went through a falling out, Iovine and Dre sued him, and both parties ended up eventually settling. With the settlement came these conditions: Lamar relinquished his rights in exchange for four percent royalties of every headphone sold thereafter. Thereafter, Beats started designing and selling newer models, and as you probably already know, the pair eventually sold the company to Apple for a smooth $3 billion. Now, the issue is whether or not Lamar is owed royalties for the models sold after their initial settlement was made, or if the former Beats owners owe him a substantial amount more. The judge originally rejected Lamar’s claim that they owe him anything, but a California appeals court thought otherwise and revived the lawsuit two years ago, stating that the royalty agreement both parties initially agreed to was “ambiguous.” The current proceedings revolve around the debate as to whether or not the agreement was about one particular product, or any future iterations and models. In the proceedings, Lamar introduced a PowerPoint presentation containing slides from the early days of Beats, where he brainstormed various models that he, Dre, and Iovine would collaborate on in the future. Right now, this entire matter is currently for the Los Angeles Superior Court to wade through—but something like this can sure take a while.

Image via Getty Syracuse University Suspends Racist Frat Members Indefinitely At some point the bill comes due and 16 slur spewin’ frat boys have just paid the tab. According to Refinery29 , Syracuse University has suspended 16 members of the Theta Tau fraternity for a racist video that we reported on earlier this year . In one scene of the video, a member was seen on his knees, fellating a beer can while saying: “I solemnly swear to always have hatred in my heart for n——, s—-, and most importantly the f***ing k—-.” While the frat has been permanently banned from campus, the students’ indefinite suspension will last at least until 2020 when they will all have to reapply after demonstrating gainful employment, academic progress, good citizenship, 160 hours of community service and a 12 page paper on diversity and inclusion. Seems very unlikely that any of the 16 boys will complete these tasks but we shall see. Despite this, there is always some d-bag who is willing to cape up for people who do racist things against minorities. In this case, FIRE, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education: “When a university expels students for a private roast consisting of completely protected speech, it has no business pretending that it cares about free expression,” director Ari Cohn said in a statement. “Labeling this obvious satire ‘harassment’ makes light of the actual cases of serious harassment that colleges should be looking to combat, and wastes resources that could be used to investigate real offenses. Labeling it a ‘breach of the peace’ is just stupid.” Mmmm, white tears. Tasty.
“Atlanta” On FX Renewed For Third Season Fans of Donald Glover’s semi-surreal comedy ‘Atlanta,’ can rejoice! FX Network has ordered another run of the hit series for an upcoming season. According to The Hollywood Reporter , the renewal was pretty well expected for the network, as the show pulled in multiple Emmys, a Peabody award, and was a steady great ratings performer for FX. As FX Networks and FX Productions programming president Nick Grad told reporters: “Atlanta is phenomenal, achieving and exceeding what few television series have done. With Atlanta Robbin’ Season, Donald and his collaborators elevated the series to even greater heights, building on the enormous success of their award-winning first season. We’re grateful to the producers and our extraordinary cast and crew for achieving this level of excellence, and we share the excitement with our audience about the third season knowing they will continue to take us to unexpected and thrilling places.” Nice.
