Daytime Emmys Somehow Forget to Nominate James Franco

The Daytime Emmys were announced today and General Hospital led the pack of mostly expected nominees with a massive 18 nominations. Conspicuously absent from the list, though, was the man who brought that soap opera high ratings, media attention, and deliciously meta plotlines: the one, the only James Franco. How can this be? Did voters somehow miss his Tommy Wiseau-evoking Emmy clip ? We’ve got it for you (and for you, James, in tribute!), as well as a list of the important nominees.

Gleebasing: Trading Stereotypical Gayness for Stereotypical Straightness

While Ryan Murphy was penning an open letter to Newsweek last night, his Glee characters were fighting their own battles within the confines of William McKinley High School. Each character given a storyline in this week’s episode “Laryngitis” was stripped of his or her defining superpower and had to adjust to life without. First, Rachel lost her much-vaunted voice, then Puck forfeited his mohawk and in effect, his popularity. Kurt briefly sacrificed his comically overdrawn gayness for comically overdrawn straightness (by wearing overalls and singing John Mellencamp) in an attempt to impress his father. And most tragically of all, Schue lost his ability to white-rap any number in the Glee songbook. Let’s see how each of those characters fared without their single most recognizable trait, and pay attention — there will be a pop quiz.

It was no surprise that Fox’s Glee won a GLAAD award this weekend for best comedy. After all, the breakout series prides itself on embracing sexual diversity, from Rachel Berry’s two-father family to Kurt’s unrequited crush on Finn. So when writer/co-creator Ryan Murphy, himself openly gay, took the stage on Saturday to accept the award at the Hyatt Regent Century Plaza Hotel, he delivered a moving acceptance speech about the value of inclusion before lobbing a few juicy season two spoilers into the audience.

The Mad Science of Fringe: Time-Traveling Secrets Exposed!

In last night’s Fringe , Walter’s angst over pulling Peter out of the parallel universe compounded when he met a MIT time-travel researcher (Peter Weller of RoboCop ), who, in an effort to change his dead fiance’s past, sucked the biological energy out of a train car of people. Despite Walter’s appeals (“It’s not our place to adjust the universe”), the time traveler reunites with his fiance and apparently dies, eliminating any future contact with Walter and Co. and basically rendering the entire episode useless. But did the throw-away plot lend itself to equivalently disposable science? Read on for a look at the relative plausibility of Walter’s ramblings in White Tulip .

Who is Kayden Nguyen?

Kayden Nguyen is the former personal assistant of Steven Seagal who filed a $1M Lawsuit against the actor. Her claim was that Steven Seagal treated her like a sex toy and further claimed other forms of sexual abuse. Kayden Nguyen is also beautiful and did have a ModelMayhem account, telling us that she is also an aspiring model in Manhattan. Another tidbit about her is that she enrolled in college to learn how to be an air traffic controller. Steven Seagal’s lawyer however stated that Nguyen doesn’t hold credibility to her claim against Seagal since she had a record of being dismissed as Seagal’s personal assistant after being caught taking narcotics. Shocker: Conan Spurns Fox, Heads to TBS

Who says the entertainment industry can’t surprise you? In a move that can only be described as “shocking” (though “damnnnn” would also suffice), Conan O’B rien announced moments ago that he’ll head to cable network TBS to host a brand new late night show starting in November. Said Coco: “In three months I’ve gone from network television to Twitter to performing live in theaters, and now I’m headed to basic cable. My plan is working perfectly.”
