Let’s put it this way: they hired a squad of actresses (and actors) to dress up in Cheerio-esque costumes, prance into a ballroom full of tired TV critics wielding pompoms and then do a herkie each time a question was posed to producers onstage.

Perhaps the only thing harder than making a movie about young parents riven by grief after losing a child is sitting through one. And for that reason alone, Rabbit Hole won’t make for a particularly cheery night out. But director John Cameron Mitchell — adapting David Lindsay-Abaire’s play — has a surprisingly deft touch with this admittedly downbeat material; he builds dramatic intensity in subtle layers, rather than slapping it on with a trowel. Rabbit Hole is so unassuming, in fact — it’s filled with delicately calibrated performances and nuanced moments of connection and disaffection — that the cumulative effect is a bit underwhelming. But you can’t fault Mitchell’s instincts; he’s adamant about understating this material rather than sending it over the top, and that makes all the difference.

The cast of Glee has performed live for the most influential humans in the world like Oprah and the president , so it made sense that Fox flew their singing cash cows to the U.K. to perform “Don’t Stop Believin'” for Dannii Minogue during The X Factor ‘s live semi-finals results show. Well, not really, but those Glee kids had a Christmas album to promote. So watch, dear Gleek s, as Cory Monteith does not even try to convincingly lip sync to back-up vocals, and Simon Cowell does not even try to look pleased when Amber Riley belts the highest Journey notes in his face. But hey, at least Sue Sylvester was there…via tape.
