Lindsay Lohan Squares Off with Judge, Volcano

The judge in Lindsay Lohan’s DUI case wants her a$$ in court. The problem? She’s in France and the Icelandic ash cloud may mean her return is no Cannes do. Lohan’s presence is required in court on Thursday for a hearing to establish if she is in compliance with the terms of her ongoing probation for a DUI conviction. It had been unclear whether Lindsay was required to be there in person. The judge said she is. If she’s not there, a bench warrant could be issued for her arrest. Following a pair of DUI arrests in 2007, the 23-year-old was ordered to complete an 18-month alcohol education program. Whether she’s done so is debatable. Reports say Lindsay has slacked hard core when it comes to attending mandatory classes ( partying like a madman won’t help her cause) and may end up jailed. Clearly living in denial , Lohan flew out from New York on Friday and arrived in Nice, France on Sunday for the Cannes Film Festival. How long will she be there? That may depend … on Mother Nature. Sources say she can’t get a flight to the U.S. because of the volcanic ash from Iceland hampering European airspace. Airports all over the continent are jam-packed and it’s impossible to get a seat. Wonder how the volcanic ash excuse will play before LL’sa no-nonsense judge.

Chuck Bass dies

The “Gossip Girl” season finale 2010 kicks off with Dan and Serena#39;s “accidental” sleepover. They claim it means nothing, but that case gets harder to prove when little Jenny Humphrey snaps a photo of them together and sends it as a Gossip Girl text blast. Among the angry parties: Blair Waldorf, who uses the situation to have a much needed confrontation with Jenny. “Someone has to give you the smackdown you so richly deserve,” she says. Blair adds, “You#39;re hurting people I love. You#39;r

Movie Review: Robin Hood

When Russell Crowe teamed up with director Ridley Scott in 2000, few could’ve known they’d give birth to a film now cited as one of the greatest of the decade. Somehow Gladiator’s sheer corniness was overlooked in favour of its spectacle to become a huge hit and a runaway bestseller in the early DVD market. As you would imagine given those involved, ‘Robin Hood’ is epic in every sense- sweeping landscapes, rousing score and a bum-numbing 2 hour 20 minute running time. There are things that stop it from being a true classic- it can be slow in places, and it’s more than slightly inspired by ‘Braveheart’ and the ‘other’ Scott/Crowe epic. However, for everything that makes you roll your eyes there’s another that makes you go ‘wow’. The look is fantastic, and although there are long breaks between battle scenes they are definitely worth the wait, especially the awesome climax on the beach. Credit also to the writers for not making this a typical story of the outlaw, more an origin piece dealing with his time in the army and the aftermath of King John’s ascension. The film takes you back to the 12th Century and follows Robin Longstride (Russell Crowe) on a journey to return the sword of dying knight Robert Loxley to his father, Sir Walter Loxley in Nottingham. Russell Crowe plays a more rugged Robin than we have seen before, but unfortunately his accent seems as confused as his character’s history. He is joined on the journey back from France by Little John (Kevin Durand), Will Scarlet (Scott Grimes) and Allan A’Dayle (Alan Doyle), a comedic trio, portrayed as a Welsh man, English man and Irish man, bringing humour to their journey. Cate Blanchett played a strong willed Marion Loxley, shrugging off the damsel in distress stereotype, making Robin work to win her love in a different adaptation of the romantic side of the story. Overall, the film was entertaining but didn’t quite match up to the hype. It was however, a completely new, grittier take on the Robin Hood legend compared to the ‘camp’ efforts of the past. It was missing much of the robbing the rich to feed the poor that might be expected, but this was clearly a ‘beginning’ film setting out how Robin Longstride became Robin Hood. There’s flaws, certainly, but there’s also a lot to like about this film. Reliable leads, a decent script and a cracking final sequence means that while you may not be quoting it for years to come, it will certainly give you a memorable evening. ‘Robin Hood’: Ye Olde Bait-And-Switch, By Kurt Loder

Russell Crowe in search of Sherwood Forest. By Kurt Loder Russell Crowe in “Robin Hood” Photo: Universal Pictures Ridley Scott’s “Robin Hood” is brilliant, in a way. Faced with the fact that filmmakers have been cranking out pictures about the scalawag of Sherwood Forest for more than a hundred years now, the director and his writers must have pondered at length how to put a unique spin on the oft-told tale. Their brainstorm: Don’t tell it. Scott’s movie, very oddily, is actually a prequel — a sort of origin story for a better Robin Hood movie that doesn’t exist. Maybe brilliant isn’t the word. So Robin Hood fans hoping for some of the dash and wit of the classic films that starred Douglas Fairbanks and Errol Flynn should set their expectation meters to Off. The simple pleasure of a few acrobatic hours with Robin and his Merry Men — and the Sheriff of Nottingham, chubby Friar Tuck, evil Prince John and the lovely Maid Marion — is not forthcoming. True, there is a Sheriff of Nottingham loitering around the edges of the action; and also some men called Little John, Will Scarlet and Allan A’Dayle, although they’re not very merry. Mark Addy’s mead-sipping Friar Tuck is a fairly lively character, but Prince John, played here by Oscar Isaac, is an unthreatening buffoon, and Marion, played by Cate Blanchett, is hardly the elegant beauty of lore — at one point we get a closeup of her washing clots of mud off her bare feet. Russell Crowe, in his fifth collaboration with Scott, dispenses with Robin’s traditional tights and feathered cap, which is not a great loss; but he also dispenses with the character’s traditional high spirits, which is. In fact, the Robin cobbled together by writers Brian Helgeland, Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris isn’t even the jaunty rogue nobleman of earlier versions of the story; here, he’s just a glum yeoman called Robin Longstride, a loyal archer in the service of good King Richard the Lionheart (Danny Huston). As the movie opens, in 1199, Richard and his weary men are returning from the latest Crusade in the Holy Lands. They’re plundering their way through France en route to England, where Richard’s conniving brother, Prince John, has his eye on the royal crown. John is planning to dump his current princess and marry sultry young Isabella of Angoul

‘Iron Man 2’ Gets Widest Release In Hollywood History

Marvel sequel will premiere in 4,380 theaters, beating record held by ‘The Dark Knight.’ By Josh Wigler Robert Downey Jr. in “Iron Man 2” Photo: Paramount Say what you will about his dubious personal ethics and his abundant supply of arrogance, but it’s impossible to deny that Tony Stark knows how to attract an audience — just check his international records for proof. Now, as “Iron Man 2” prepares to fly into theaters all across the United States this weekend, the superhero is poised to draw a crowd the likes of which Hollywood has never seen before. With a few short hours to go before its U.S. release, the Marvel Studios superhero sequel is already carving out a spot in the domestic box office’s history books — according to Deadline Hollywood , “Iron Man 2” will have the widest initial release in Hollywood history, with a walloping 4,380 venues to its name, courtesy of distributor Paramount Pictures. The previous record holder was Warner Bros.’ “The Dark Knight,” which boasted 4,366 locations in 2008. Although Iron Man has already defeated Batman’s record for most opening locations, he’ll have a higher bar to clear when it comes to topping the Caped Crusader’s initial box-office intake. In its first weekend in theaters, “The Dark Knight” secured an unprecedented $158.4 million record. Analysts predict that “Iron Man 2” could land close to that number — somewhere between $150 and $160 million by Sunday’s conclusion — presenting Tony Stark with the opportunity to pluck another trophy off of the considerably stacked shelf located in the Bat Cave. Already, “Iron Man 2” has performed fantastically overseas. It currently sits atop a money pile worth $121.1 million after its release in 53 foreign territories, including the United Kingdom, South Korea, France, Australia and Russia. By Monday morning, American moviegoers will probably have donated few hundred million more to the Stark Industries bank account. Making eco-scents of fragrance

That fresh, clean smell really isn’t actually very fresh or clean at all. We’ve talked here before about the dangers lurking behind the word ” fragrance ” on cleaners, candles and cosmetics (some 3,163 potentially toxic ingredients , that’s what). But what about perfume ? Surely a product designed to convey a crisp, clear note of fragrance must be pure? Think again: Perfumes are typically chock full of carcinogens , synthetics, formaldehyde , and urine and sex hormones (both animal and human). Truly, if you’re not disgusted yet, you have stronger stomachs than we do. Finding healthy, eco-friendly perfumes isn’t easy by any means, but the options are slowly growing. “Organic perfume” is no longer synonymous with hippie-dippy patchouli, overplayed lavender or cookie-sweet vanilla. Breathe deeply, my friends, because Super Eco has sniffed out a selection of organic and eco-friendly perfumes. Lavanila Laboratories Ok, despite the fact that we did mention no more vanilla (since we’re all sick of smelling like freshly baked sugar cookies), we have to lead off with this spectacular example of vanilla goodness: Lavanila. Their growing line of natural fragrance products includes blends with coconut, grapefruit, lavender and passion fruit. Still sound suspiciously crunchy granola? It’s sold at Sephora —that many mainstream consumers can’t be wrong. Wholearth Perfume No. 4 Yes, it’s USDA-certified organic fragrance, and the notes of orange, lavender and vanilla are heavenly. We fell in love with the bottle. Tsi-La Organics You’ll find no synthetics or preservatives in this eco-friendly perfume collection, created by two sisters-in-law with a penchant for green living. L’Occitane en Provence With pure lavender extracts from Provence in France, this is sweet—and certified organic. Acorelle Lotus Bambou A little spicy, a little different … Organic eau de parfum with notes like spearmint, tarragon.

Rihanna is in Paris, France and the “Rudeboy” singer made a little side trip after dinner, making a pit stop at “Toy’s Me,” an adult store where she’s rumored to have picked up a few things. If you’ve seen her stage show lately, we wouldn’t be surprised if a few toys made it into her act.
