‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ actress also addresses rumors of a fairy-tale sequel with MTV News. By Fallon Prinzivalli, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have been co-stars both on- and offscreen. Now, with their wildly successful film franchise coming to a close, the stars behind Edward Cullen and Bella Swan may be exploring another film project together. When MTV News caught up with Stewart at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards , we asked her to address rumors that she and Pattinson are working on a script together. “We are constantly working,” she said, “but no.” ” We are!” her “Snow White and the Huntsman” co-star Chris Hemsworth chimed in. ” ‘Snow White and the Huntsman 2’ written by us, and it might be more of a straight-to-video version if they let us write it.” “No, no, ” Stewart replied. Hemsworth defended his statement: “If they let us write it! If they let us write it.” “It’ll be better,” she said. “Our version? We’ve basically written it. No, I’m kidding. We’re gonna write the second one, all of us [in the cast].” “We are,” Hemsworth agreed. “It’s gonna be a group kind of exercise. Everyone just closes their eyes and start scribbling and then whatever’s on that page, [that’s the script].” Talk surrounding a “Snow White” sequel was previously reported back in April, when Universal was said to have approached screenwriter David Koepp about penning a script. Stewart told MTV News last year that she’s “over the moon” about this project and would “love” to work on more films if the franchise continues. While the movie’s director, Rupert Sanders, said the fairy-tale princess could go dark in a sequel, Stewart remains skeptical. “Well, I’m not saying anything. Nothing at all,” she laughed. “Let’s undermine our entire lead character in the very second [film]. It’s like, ‘No, that’s my whole [thing].’ It would be so weird to [make her darker]. It would break me, which would probably be interesting to watch.” “But then we have to rebuild you, which is exciting,” Hemsworth added. “That’s the third one, the rebuilding,” Stewart replied. “See how far in the future she lives?” the Aussie actor said, addressing us. “Never in the moment.” Well, she is coming off four films, soon to be five, with “The Twilight Saga.” And Hemsworth conceded, “She’s done this before, hasn’t she?” Check out everything we’ve got on “Snow White and the Huntsman.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .
‘Carly is my artist, and I’m Usher’s artist, so it’s kind of cool that we’re all performing,’ Bieber tells MTV News at Billboard Music Awards. By Kara Warner Justin Bieber at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images LAS VEGAS — As was expected, Justin Bieber’s show-stopping performance of “Boyfriend” at Sunday’s (May 20) Billboard Music Awards brought out the squeals and the swag. When MTV News caught up with Bieber on the white carpet for the awards show, just before his big number, the teenage superstar said his expectations for the evening were relatively simple: He just wanted everyone to have fun and to be able to show off all the hard work he’s been putting into his dance moves. “This performance is going to be fun. I practiced a lot in the dance studio,” Bieber said. “I’ve been working hard, and I can’t wait to show the fans what I’ve been working so hard on.” Since the other members of Bieber’s musical family — Carly Rae Jepsen and Usher — were also performing, did the trio discuss any feelings of friendly competition or joke around about which performance would be better than the others? “[It’s] not a competition. It’s all love,” Bieber said with a smile. “We’re all a family. Carly is my artist, and I’m Usher’s artist, so it’s kind of cool that we’re all performing here, together. For first-time Billboard Music Awards attendee and performer Jepsen, the goal for the night was to remember to take a moment to soak it all in. “I want to feel happy when I’m onstage,” she said. “A lot of times you kind of get caught up in the performance and then you worry and then it’s over and you think, ‘I didn’t even enjoy it.’ So tonight, after [having a successful] soundcheck this morning, it’s going to be about having fun. It’s me and my band, we’ve got some dancers and some fun lights, it’s going to be an interesting show.” Who had the best Billboard performance: Justin, Usher or Carly? Let us know in the comments! ‘Twilight’ actor will play a thief in the Australian outback. By Fallon Prinzivalli Robert Pattinson Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images Robert Pattinson is on a roll, Twilighters. It was just announced that the beloved actor has joined director David Michod’s “The Rover,” also starring Guy Pearce. While there is little known about the project, Deadline Hollywood reports the film takes place in the near future and follows a man (Pearce) who ruthlessly hunts a group of thieves through the rough Australian outback after they steal his car. Pattinson will play a thief named Reynolds. According to Variety, Michod will pen the script based on an original idea from “Animal Kingdom” star Joel Edgerton and himself. David Linde and Liz Watts are set to produce under Lava Bear Films and Porchlight Films. The news immediately follows the announcement that Pattinson signed on for “Mission: Blacklist,” the movie adaptation of Eric Maddox’s book “Mission: Blacklist #1: The Inside Story of the Search for Saddam Hussein — As Told by the Soldier Who Masterminded His Capture.” The actor will star as the man who led the hunt. Both “Rover” and “Mission” are still in development, but Pattinson has a busy year ahead of him. He travels to the Cannes Film Festival to promote David Cronenberg’s mind-tripping “Cosmopolis” and closes out “The Twilight Saga” as Edward Cullen one last time in “Breaking Dawn – Part 2.” Also available on VOD beginning Friday is the titillating drama “Bel Ami,” which opens in Los Angeles, New York and select cities June 8. ‘Hunger Games’ fever has us wondering about the prospects for Tim Burton’s adaptation. By John Mitchell Johnny Depp in “Dark Shadows” Photo: Warner Bros Everyone has “Hunger Games” fever , and it’s understandable; the film is absolutely everywhere, critics are saying it’s pretty good and star Jennifer Lawrence’s candid, funny interviews are a welcome change from the uncomfortable sit-downs granted by, um, some other YA adaptation stars when their films hit the big screen. Anyway, “Games” just crept into theaters, and talk of the sequel is already ramping up. Filming on “Catching Fire” is set to begin later this year, and a November 22, 2013, release date is already in the books. That got us thinking about our own little mini-obsession: “Dark Shadows.” While it’s nowhere near as fervent or large as “Games,” “Shadows” has a devout following too, and if the film is a hit at the box office, which seems quite possible if not bet-on-it likely, at least one sequel would be justified. And with an extensive catalog of 1,225 episodes, there is plenty of plot for, well, as many follow-ups as Tim Burton could come up with. But the approach the director has taken with the film makes us wonder if it’s the sort of thing that could sustain a franchise. Let’s talk this out. First, the direction Burton has chosen to take with the film has already divided fans . Over on MTV Movies Blog, we asked readers whether they liked the “Shadows” trailer , and the reaction was pretty much split down the middle. Just over half of those who voted (52.35 percent) were into the trailer, checking our “Love it! Burton knows what he’s doing” box. That leaves 47.65 percent of respondents who instead “Hated it! Burton is ruining everything!” It’s a pretty radical reinvention, to be sure, and the trailer reminds us most of the big-screen version of “The Addams Family.” “Addams,” of course, was a sitcom to start with, and all director Barry Sonnenfeld really did was turn up the volume on the weird. Much of the humor derived from people reacting to the macabre-but-good-natured family of weirdos, and the film was a hit — a big enough hit to merit a sequel. The “Addams” sequel didn’t connect quite the way the first film did, perhaps because the shtick that was so fresh the first time around had worn out its welcome. So even if it’s a hit, will people really want multiple “Shadows” films once the novelty has worn thin? The thing about (good) sequels is that they generally require emotional investment from the audience to be successful. We want to know what happens next with Katniss in “The Hunger Games.” There’s an entire mythology attached to Bruce Wayne in the “Batman” films. It’s hard to form that connection when the characters are hyper-realized and a little bit caricatured. And though there is a definite mythology to “Shadows,” Burton has opted to ignore it in favor of some brave, maybe even fun, stylistic choices he no doubt hopes will make the film unique and set it apart, both from the series itself and from anything else hitting the big screen this summer. But zany absurdity is hard to maintain across multiple films. By the time the second “Addams” movie came around, the crux of the joke — playing off other people’s reactions to the goth family — was a bit tired, so they had to put Wednesday and Pugsley into an awkward situation (summer camp) to try and keep it fresh. Had Burton hewed a little closer to his source material, this wouldn’t be a concern, but in taking such liberties with the style of “Shadows” he kind of backs himself into a corner when it comes to whatever comes next. He’d have to up the ante in some way for a sequel, but since he’s already operating so over the top, is that even possible? We’re super excited for “Shadows” but we’re just curious if — unlike “Hunger Games” fans — we should learn to quell our excitement that there may be more films coming. After all, maybe there’s a reason we only ever got one “Beetlejuice” ( hey, wait a minute … ). What do you think, “Shadows” fans? Did Tim Burton blow his shot at a franchise by making his “Shadows” so niche? Let us know in the comments below and tweet me @JohnMitchell83 with your thoughts and suggestions for future columns! ‘That probably is the craziest, unexpected, weird thing that’s happened to me,’ she says about flour-tossing incident in L.A. By Jocelyn Vena Kim Kardashian is covered in flour at her True Reflection fragrance launch on Thursday. Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images Kim Kardashian is making headlines again. At a fragrance launch event in Los Angeles on Thursday for her new perfume, True Reflection, the reality starlet was assaulted with a bag of flour. Kardashian was walking the red carpet at the London Hotel in West Hollywood when someone flour-bombed her. According to the Los Angeles Times, police and authorities were called to the scene. The assailant — who may or may not be the same person who shouted “fur hag” at the E! star — was taken into custody but later released after Kardashian decided not to press charges. Instead of making a big fuss over the incident, Kardashian went back to the carpet, where she continued to do interviews. “That probably is the craziest, unexpected, weird thing that’s happened to me,” Kim told E! News afterward. “Like I said to my makeup artist, I wanted more powder and that’s a whole lot of translucent powder right there.” The site also reported that it was Kardashian’s publicist who held down the suspect until authorities arrived. Kim’s mom, Kris Jenner, laughed off the incident, telling E! News, “If anybody comes at me with something, call security.” In the end, Kim apparently wasn’t too upset by any of it. On Twitter , she posted a lighthearted message: “Thx everyone who came last nite 2 support my new perfume True Reflection & the amazing women from Dress 4 Success! Last nite was eventful.” What do you think of Kim getting flour-bombed on the red carpet? Tell us in the comments!
‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ star is attached to produce ‘The Sky is Everywhere.’ By Jocelyn Vena Selena Gomez Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images As Selena Gomez maps out her post-“Wizards of Waverly Place” career , her projects continue to be more and more diverse. Gomez is attached to produce and most likely star in the big-screen adaptation of the Jandy Nelson novel “The Sky is Everywhere.” Gomez will not only play the part of producer but could potentially land the novel’s lead role of Lennie Walker, Deadline reports. Lennie is a 17-year-old nerd-type who loses her older, outgoing sister, Bailey. After Bailey dies, Lennie must step out of her sister’s shadow when she falls for two guys (one of whom was Bailey’s boyfriend). No word on who is attached to star in the other key parts of the movie. Before she hits the set for “The Sky is Everywhere,” Gomez already has some other films lined up. The actress/singer will shoot the darker “Spring Breakers” early this year and has been rumored to be attached to a film called “Hot Mess.” When Gomez spoke to MTV News late last year, she shared that she didn’t have any big expectations going into 2012. It seems that game plan is working for her. “I feel like this approach of this year, I wasn’t expecting any of the things that happened,” she said. “And so I just kind of want to go into the end of this year and the beginning of next year just excited and in a good place and not planning anything.” Are you looking for to the big-screen adaptation of “The Sky is Everywhere”?
