‘Lost’ Fanatic Mark Hoppus Shares How He Got Hooked

The Blink-182 frontman watched five seasons in a row while on tour last year. By Mark Hoppus Mark Hoppus Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images With the series finale of “Lost” only a few days away, anticipation for the show’s end has reached a fever pitch. Fans all across the Internet and all over the world are speculating how the series might end and discussing what the six seasons have meant to them — including Blink-182 bassist Mark Hoppus. We asked him to explain what the show has meant to him and what he thinks may go down during the finale, which airs this Sunday, May 23. I was a non-believer for a few years. After casually watching the first season, I fell off the show. Each week, everyone would come into the studio, excitedly talking about the latest episode from the night before. I laughed and asked them if it had been the episode where they ALMOST get off the island. Or if Gilligan made a cameo. Everyone looked at me and shook their heads. Then this past summer, on the North American Blink-182 tour, at the insistence of most of the crew, I re-watched the series from the first episode through the end of season five. In a matter of days. I couldn’t stop. With the exception of soundcheck and showtime, I spent every waking minute watching show after show, into the small hours of the morning. The pivotal moment for me was when Locke walked. I had to know and understand his role and place on the island. He has been and continues to be the show’s most compelling character. And now there’s one final episode. Locke vs. Jack? Smoke Monster vs. Desmond Hume? Hurley vs. the Lottery Numbers? What the hell is going to happen? And more importantly, why was MY name not in the list of candidates?!?! How did you get hooked on the show? Share your own “Lost” memories in the comments below. We’re celebrating the long-awaited conclusion of “Lost” all this week at MTV News! We’ll be bringing you exclusive interviews, insightful commentary and, in true “Lost” fashion, maybe even a surprise or two. Conan O’Brien’s Move To TBS Embraced By George Lopez

‘I am completely, 100 percent onboard with this move,’ Lopez says on his TBS show. By Gil Kaufman George Lopez Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images What a difference a few months and a basic cable outlet make. Unlike Conan O’Brien, who decided to walk when NBC asked him to push his show back to make room for the return of Jay Leno to “The Tonight Show,” comedian George Lopez could not be more psyched that his TBS show “Lopez Tonight” will be bumped an hour to accommodate O’Brien’s new talker in the fall. “If you haven’t heard by now, Conan O’Brien will be joining us on late night on TBS. Welcome! Welcome!,” Lopez gushed at the beginning of Monday night’s show. “I want to say that I am completely, 100 percent onboard with this move.

Radiohead’s Thom Yorke Reveals Side Project Name, Tour Dates

Atoms for Peace feature members of Red Hot Chili Peppers and R.E.M. By Josh Wigler Thom Yorke Photo: Nick Pickles/ WireImage Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has finally unveiled the name of his new side project: Atoms for Peace. The band’s all-star lineup consists of bassist Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers , drummer Joey Waronker of R.E.M. , Brazilian percussionist Mauro Refosco of Forro in the Dark and Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich. “It has been decided that we call ourselves Atoms for Peace,” Yorke wrote on the official Radiohead Web site . “Hope you like the name. It seemed bleedin’ obvious.” Atoms for Peace will embark on a brief tour in April, beginning with two nights at New York’s Roseland Ballroom on April 5 and 6 and concluding with a performance at the Coachella Festival in Indio, California, on April 18. Tickets for Coachella are currently available for purchase, while tickets for the other dates go on sale next week. In October Yorke assembled the members of Atoms for Peace for a two-night concert event at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles, with the intention of performing tracks from his debut solo album, The Eraser, released in 2006. “Yorke is aggressively reaching for the bottom in his own sound,” The Los Angeles Times wrote of that concert. “It wouldn’t be fair to call this music Radiohead Lite, because it wasn’t light at all. But it was more concentrated and, in some ways, more graspable than that group’s work. By appealing to the lower body, Yorke and his band dictated the audience’s focus in ways that Radiohead’s performances don’t.” “We had too much fun to just leave it there,” Yorke said of the upcoming tour. Bun B Talks Pimp C Tribute With Jay-Z

He also gives it up for French Montana: ‘If you know French Montana, that means you been somewhere.’ By Shaheem Reid Bun B Photo: Frazer Harrison/Getty Images NEW YORK — Bun B gives all the credit to Jay-Z for their onstage tribute to Pimp C earlier this week in Houston. During a stop of the Blueprint 3 Tour in H-Town, Bun joined Jigga for “Big Pimpin’,” and the two let the crowd recite the late Pimp C’s rhymes. “It was Jay’s tribute,” said Bun, who was in NYC on Wednesday night filming the video for French Montana’s “Bad Habits.” “I don’t want anybody to get it twisted. Jay-Z was a very good friend of mine and Pimp C. He makes sure every time he comes to Houston, it’s a big thing, and we can really give it up to Pimp. He doesn’t want to do it for himself, and it’s not about giving me shine. At the end of the day, we have to make sure in Houston, when that song is performed, at the end of the day, Pimp C gets the biggest moment. The biggest moment was when everybody in the audience and ourselves had to give it up to the Pimp.” Bun sees the close kinship he shared with Pimp in French Montana and incarcerated MC Max B . “French knows everybody,” Bun said about why he wanted to work with one of the newest signees to Akon’s Konvict Music. “If you know French Montana, that means you been somewhere. French is everywhere. All the big parties, all the cities, Super Bowl, All-Star Weekend. Whenever somebody got the fly release party or some celebrity debutante has the big birthday party, French is in the building. I respected that about him. I met him in Miami, I was like, ‘I like your grind. You getting out here. You not just representing for yourself, but for your man Max B. as well.’ For me, to see somebody hold their man down while they’re locked up, to me, that’s special. I guess I’m a little bit biased.” French’s video is for a track from his mixtape Mac Wit Da Cheese II. Montana’s debut LP is slated to be called Excuse My French. Meanwhile, Bun has gone back in the lab to work on his next LP, Trill O.G. “Unfortunately, we’re going to end our relationship with Asylum,” Bun explained of his Rap-A-Lot distribution deal. Bun does credit executives at Asylum, such as Joie Manda and Todd Moscowitz, for “success in later years.” “The Warner Bros. building is changing a little bit, but we have some good friends at Fontana Music as well as Universal,” he said. “It’s looking like we may do that. While J. Prince and the big people are taking care of the paperwork, making sure the money is right. It’s giving me a chance to go in, fine-tune the music and work with people I thought I wouldn’t be able to work with on this album. Now I have the opportunity to go back in. I told [J.] that wherever he wanna go, I’m riding with him.” Related Artists Bun B Jay-Z Pimp C

Kris Allen Plans Haiti Visit For ‘American Idol’ Fundraiser

Last year’s winner will appear on the show next week to share footage of his trip and perform. By Katie Byrne Kris Allen Photo: Frazer Harrison/Getty Images Kris Allen will appear on “American Idol” next week to help raise money for Haiti, it was announced Wednesday (February 17). Last year’s “Idol” winner has partnered with the United Nations Foundation to take a trip to the earthquake-ravaged country, and he will share footage from his visit and perform on the February 25 results show. Allen will head to Haiti on February 19 to meet with U.N. staff and Haitian people to find out what the country will need to recover in the coming months. Fox told The Associated Press that viewers will be asked to make donations online or by text-messaging during the “Idol” episode, with the money going to the Idol Gives Back Foundation to help support the U.N. Foundation’s work in Haiti. “I’m looking forward to traveling to Haiti to see the U.N.’s work firsthand,” Allen said in a statement. “The people of Haiti are rebuilding their country, and the U.N. is there to help them every step of the way. I look forward to sharing the images and stories from my trip with ‘Idol’ viewers across the country.” The appearance is part of the show’s “Idol Gives Back” charity effort, with the full “Idol Gives Back” episode airing April 21. The charity show took a break last season due to the pressure of producing that show along with the finale. “Idol” judge Randy Jackson suggested that this year’s “Idol Gives Back” might benefit Haiti, and it looks like that is part of the plan. Nicole Richie, Hugh Jackman, other stars also contributed items to Cyrus’ eBay auction. By Jocelyn Vena Miley Cyrus Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images Miley Cyrus hasn’t let an opportunity pass to make sure she’s doing her part to help raise money for Haiti. She participated in both the “We Are the World” remake as well as the “Everybody Hurts” cover organized by Simon Cowell . Now, Cyrus has rounded up a number of items from fellow celebrities, including Britney Spears, for a Haiti benefit auction beginning on Monday (February 2). “Ever since the earthquake, I’ve been trying to do my part to help the people of Haiti — and I wanted to do more,” Cyrus told People about the eBay auction, in which fans can bid on the Herve Leger dress she wore to the Grammy Awards last month, as well as two tickets to the Hollywood premiere of her upcoming film, “The Last Song.” “I want to get people involved and show that even the little things you can do can make a difference.” A message on eBay.com/Miley says that the auction will include tickets to Hugh Jackman’s next movie premiere, Whoopi Goldberg’s tennis shoes and Demi Lovato’s tour wardrobe. Proceeds will go to the American Red Cross. According to People, Nicole Richie has donated jewelry from her House of Harlow line and Spears has donated the silver Versace dress she wore to the 2008 MTV VMAs (having just gained permission to do so in a court hearing last month). “I texted Nicole and right away she sent over some amazing jewelry and Joel [Madden] sent some of his clothes,” Cyrus told the magazine. “Everyone has been so generous. My mom and I started calling and texting all of our friends to see if they’d like to be a part of the auction. Demi [Lovato] was one of the first to respond. Hugh Jackman was also excited to donate something.” Learn more about what you can do to help with earthquake-relief efforts in Haiti , and for more information, see Think MTV .
