Did Lauren Alaina Top Scotty McCreery?

In a word, to answer the question posed in our headline: No. A week after American Idol champion Scotty McCreery became the first series winner since 2003 to take his debut album to the top of the Billboard 200 chart, runner-up Lauren Alaina fell to Evanescence, whose self-titled third CD sold 127,000 copies in its first week, good enough for first place. Lauren Alaina – Maybe It Was Memphis McCreery’s Clear As Day slipped down into fourth place following a 55 percent drop in sales, but managed to still beat out Alaina’s “Wildflower.” We’ve listed the week’s top 10 below: Evanescence, Evanescence – 127,000 copies Adele, 21 – 111,000 Five Finger Death Punch, American Capitalist – 91,000 Scotty McCreery, Clear As Day – 88,000 Lauren Alaina, Wildflower – 69,000 Tony Bennett, Duets II – 54,000 Ryan Adams, Ashes and Fire – 49,000 Lady Antebellum, Own The Night – 47,000 Lil Wayne, Tha Carter IV – 45,000 Martina McBride, Eleven – 40,000

Nicolas and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy Welcome Daughter!

Nicolas Sarkozy and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, the First Couple of France, have welcomed their first child together, according to news reports. It’s a girl! Bruni-Sarkozy, 43, who confirmed her pregnancy in July, delivered around 8 p.m. at the Clinque de la Muette after arriving there earlier in the day. The girl, whose name is unknown, is the first child born to a ruling French leader since Napoleon. He has three children from a previous marriage. Prior to giving birth, the singer, actress and model said she will not be releasing photos of the baby, insisting that the French people would not care anyway. That’s debatable, but still, good for her. Bruni-Sarkozy married the French President, 56, in February 2008. The Italian native also has one son of her own from a previous marriage. Congratulations to the happy family! [Photo: WENN.com]

Can Dane Cook Be Taken Seriously as a Dramatic Actor?

I don’t know how in touch you are with Dane Cook’s film career, but this December, the comedian-turned-actor stars in a kidnapping drama called Answers to Nothing . As a philandering husband whose wife is determined to get pregnant in spite of his infidelities, the leading role — which appears to be completely (and purposefully) humorless in the trailer — could be a step in a new direction for the 39-year-old stand-up. But can Dane Cook even be taken seriously as a dramatic actor at this point in his career?

REVIEW: The Swell Season Revisits the Stars of Once and Finds Bittersweet Romance

Once casts a long shadow over the The Swell Season , a black-and-white tour documentary co-directed by Nick August-Perna, Chris Dapkins and Carlo Mirabella-Davis. For one thing the film, which follows musicians-turned-movie stars Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová as they perform under the band name of the title, wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for Once — the incredible, unexpected success of the Irish indie romance made celebrities of its leads and netted them an Academy Award for their song “Falling Slowly,” one of many we hear them play in the doc. Early on, we’re shown Hansard’s mother hefting her son’s Oscar and speaking of him with pride, musing that if the two musicians were to get married, their children would be able to say “ma and dad have an Oscar each!” Once has allowed the long-struggling Hansard and considerably younger Irglová to become a coveted live act, and it’s on tour that The Swell Season catches them, as the first flush of celebration has faded and weariness has begun to set in.

REVIEW: Gosling and Clooney Bring Movie-Star Chops, and Movie-Star Stubble, to The Ides of March

George Clooney’s The Ides of March is an actors’ movie, a picture that gives performers some provocative things to do without necessarily providing a great story for them to hang onto. It’s also a movie made for grown-ups, and Lord knows there are few enough of those around today. But this story of an idealistic young press secretary who finds his principles eroded at the hands of a corrupt Democratic presidential candidate keeps getting in the way of its own chin-stroking: It’s carefully designed to make us think it’s making us think, but in the end, what’s it really telling us? That politics — and politicians — can be dishonest and ugly? Please don’t stop the presses for that one.

Woody Allen Would Totally Cast Michelle Obama in a Movie

“If I was in a room with Michelle Obama, and I thought she was right for a part, I wouldn’t hesitate to ask her.” Woody Allen cast French first lady (and former model-chanteuse) Carla Bruni in a small part as a museum guide in his Midnight in Paris “on a whim” after dining with the President and Mrs. Nicolas Sarkozy. He’d give Mrs. Obama a similar shot, he said on British T.V., if only he met with her first. Sounds like someone wants an invite to the White House! [ USA Today via Onion A.V. Club ]

Congratulations??? 19-Year-Old Model Rose Cordero Announces She’s Toting A Gut Full On Facebook

By all accounts, Dominican beauty Rose Cordero is one of the brightest rising stars in fashion right now. She’s also just weeks away from becoming a mommy. And 19. She made the announcement today by posting the photo above on Facebook. Based on recent fashion photos alone, though, you wouldn’t know Rose is with child. Dominican Republic-born Cordero most recently appeared in a sexy shoot for Marie Claire Italy’s October issue posing in several belly-baring looks. On online threads where the news spread, fashion fans have compared Cordero to fellow model Jourdan Dunn, another rising black model who got pregnant at age 19. One difference, some commentators have noted, is that Dunn’s profile was already quite high when she had her baby — she even made a memorable runway appearance while seven months pregnant at Jean Paul Gaultier in 2009. Cordero’s biggest achievement to date has been becoming the first solo black model to grace the cover of French Vogue since 2002. We know that as a working model, Rose can certainly afford to provide for her child. But still, don’t you think 19 is a little young? Source
