Friday Box Office: Transformers Continues Assault, Larry Crowne Flops

All hail Megatron! While Transformers: Dark of the Moon earned “just” $33.5 million on Friday night — 15 percent behind what Revenge of the Fallen grabbed on its first Friday in 2009 — the Michael Bay-directed explosion orgy is on track to bank $185 million through its first seven days. That might be disappointing, until you consider the foreign grosses, which are expected to top $200 million over the same timeframe. The outlook isn’t as rosy for Larry Crowne : the film crashed its moped into fourth place on the chart, and won’t top $20 million for the weekend. Your Friday box office is here.

John Goodman in Negotiations to Play Hollywood Expert in Ben Affleck’s Argo

John Goodman is reportedly negotiating to join Ben Affleck ‘s Argo , the period political drama about a real-life covert operation to rescue six U.S. diplomats during the Iran hostage crisis in 1979. The kicker, and where Goodman comes in, is in the unusual circumstances of said rescue, in which the Canadian government enlisted Hollywood make-up and effects experts John Chambers and Bob Sidell to help the Americans escape in disguise as crew members of a fake science fiction film.

Friday Box Office: Cars 2 Speeds to $25.7 Million

Critics may have only found Cars 2 to be marginally better than Hop (at least judging from the two films’ Rotten Tomatoes scores), but that doesn’t mean audiences felt the same way. The Pixar sequel rushed to $25.7 million on Friday night — well ahead of tracking expectations — and could wind up with the second-biggest opening weekend in the history of the brand, behind only Toy Story 3 . In other surprising box office news: Bad Teacher also exceeded expectations — and how! With a $12 million Friday night, the Cameron Diaz-led comedy could beat the opening weekend of fellow R-rated girl comedy Bridesmaids , quality be damned. Your Friday box office is here.

‘The League’ Stars Round Up Shocking Confessions At Bonnaroo

Paul Scheer, Nick Kroll and FX comedy co-stars hit the ground and turned up some of the most unbelievable festival stories. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Adam Murphy “The League” stars Jon Lajoie, Stephen Rannazzisi and Nick Kroll Photo: MTV News MANCHESTER, Tennessee — In theory, FX’s excellent original series “The League” is about fantasy football. But really, it’s about so much more: namely, the trials and tribulations of a group of friends, and their ongoing attempts to mess with each other’s lives. And that’s a sport that never goes out of season. During this past weekend’s Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival , four-fifths of the show’s stars — comedians Nick Kroll, Paul Scheer, Jon Lajoie and Stephen Rannazzisi — brought their mission to the masses, doing a pair of live sets in the fest’s Comedy Theatre … and those sets were heavy on the kind of good-natured provocation that has become the show’s calling card. So, in a lot of ways, it made sense to send the guys out into the fields of Bonnaroo, acre upon acre of shirtless dudes and blissed-out gals (some of whom also happen to be shirtless). In other words, it’s a place overflowing with folks who are in need of a good messing with. With the sun beating down on our heads, we boarded a golf cart and let the cameras roll, watching in near disbelief as the four comics chatted up guys in Speedos and capes, bandana-clad ladies, a slightly terrified child and exactly one gentleman who admitted to an ongoing affair with a married woman. The goal, as the guys would later tell us, was to create a sort of “Bonnaroo Taxi Cab Confessions ,” only, you know, in a golf cart. It was, to say the very least, a slightly amazing shoot (click the embedded video to see for yourself). So without further ado, we’re proud to present the cast of “The League” in all their comedic glory … running wild over the vast expanses of the ‘Roo, messing with complete strangers every step of the way. Ryan Reynolds Reveals ‘Green Lantern 2’ ‘War’ Story

Before the first movie hits theaters on Friday, Reynolds and Blake Lively hint at sequel plots. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Ryan Reynolds in “Green Lantern” Photo: Warner Bros. Ryan Reynolds was still busy in a blue-screen studio bringing the starry magic of “Green Lantern” to life when Warner Bros. started moving ahead with plans for a sequel. That’s just the way things work in Hollywood. Now, a year after screenwriters were hired to pen the script for “Green Lantern 2,” much of the overall story seems to be in place, and as Reynolds told us recently, he’s “pretty aware” of what’s in store for his Hal Jordan, the test-pilot-turned-universe-protecting superhero. But with the first flick not hitting theaters until this Friday, the actor isn’t going to spill all the details. “I’m not throwing that out there at all,” he said. He did, nonetheless, toss us a few clues — most tantalizingly about what’s in store for Jordan and Sinestro, an ally who eventually becomes one of Jordan’s greatest enemies. “There’s such a rich history with this character, so you get really excited about the possibility,” Reynolds explained. “The inevitable war between Hal and Sinestro is something that will have to be dealt with in the second movie for sure, but there’s always subplots and a lot of other interesting things going on that are setting up a possible third film.” One subplot that co-star Blake Lively is hoping to see in future films concerns her character, Carol Ferris. According to DC Comics lore, Ferris evolves from Jordan’s on-again, off-again lover into a powerful being endowed with abilities similar to those that Jordan’s Green Lantern Corps power ring gives him. She becomes known as Star Sapphire, another of Jordan’s enemies. Lively, it seems, can’t wait to battle Reynolds — either in a sequel or even the third film that Reynolds discussed. Not that she went into great detail about the plots either. “Like the war between Star Sapphire and …,” Lively began, before trailing off. Reynolds quickly picked up. “Oh, I was talking about Pok

‘Harry Potter’ Actress Emma Watson Sick Of Having ‘No Control’ Over Her Life

‘I have lived in a complete bubble,’ ‘Perks of Being a Wallflower’ star tells Vogue. By Eric Ditzian Emma Watson on the July 2011 cover of Vogue Photo: Vogue When we caught up with Emma Watson at the MTV Movie Awards afterparty earlier this month, the 21-year-old Brit confessed, “I’m having the time of my life.” For the first time in her professional career, Watson is free of the all-encompassing “Harry Potter” franchise and has set about creating for herself a cinematic second act — one that has nothing to do with Hogwarts and Hermione Granger. It’s been a long time coming, as the actress admitted in a new Vogue cover story. “I have had no control over my life,” Watson said. “I have lived in a complete bubble. They found me and picked me for the part. And now I’m desperately trying to find my way through it.” The first move she made was signing on to an adaptation of “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” a provocative novel about teenage life in America. She also dropped out of Brown University in March, after years of fighting to continue her education while also remaining committed to one of the biggest film franchises on Earth. “I have felt for the last 10 years I have had this battle — I’ve been fighting so hard to have an education. It’s been this uphill struggle,” she said. “I was Warner Bros.’ pain in the butt. I was their scheduling conflict. I was the one who made life difficult.” Now fully outside the “Potter” bubble, Watson is trying, as she put it, “to really enjoy the good things because it makes the bad things OK.” Among those unwelcome things is the constant attention of the paparazzi. And when she does begin a new relationship (her previous one ended last summer), she hopes the tabloid spotlight won’t spoil the romance. “I’m a feminist, but I think that romance has been taken away a bit for my generation. I think what people connect with in novels is this idea of an overpowering, encompassing love — and it being more important and special than anything and everything else,” she said. “I would love to not date someone in the same industry as me. Otherwise it becomes what it means to everyone else.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Katy Perry’s ‘Last Friday Night’ Gets Teen-Party Makeover From Rebecca Black

Hanson, Kenny G and ‘Glee’ stars Darren Criss and Kevin McHale also guest-star in teen-movie homage. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry in her “Last Friday Night” video Photo: Capitol Records What happened “Last Friday Night” ? Katy Perry’s alter ego Kathy Beth Terry is trying to figure that out. In the just premiered video , directed by Marc Klasfeld, Perry pays homage to the teen flicks of the ’80s, with the help of quite a few famous friends. In the midst of a rousing game of sudoku, the brace-faced, headgear-wearing, nerdy Kathy seems initially mad at the house party going on outside. So, what’s a girl to do? Well, try to reason with the revelers and get them to stop, obviously. But those revelers happen to include “Friday” singer Rebecca Black, house band Hanson, with an assist from Kathy Beth Terry ‘s crazy uncle Kenny G, and “Glee” stars Darren Criss and Kevin McHale, the latter of whom has a mad, fantasy-tinged crush on Kathy. And soon, rather than put an end to the festivities, she’s drawn into the party, which includes the tropes from movies like “She’s All That,” “Can’t Hardly Wait” and about five flicks by John Hughes. After Black gives Perry a makeover, complete with spandex, big hair and funky earrings, she’s hanging with all of the cool kids. She’s drinking, dancing, vomiting and falling over drunk, while the song’s lyrics talk about regretting the Friday-night actions that are inevitably documented and spread online. And, of course, it all comes back to Saturday morning, when a hungover Kathy is both pleased and shocked by what happened the night before, as her passed-out guests and Facebook page remind her of it all. Her parents arrive on the scene, but they don’t seem too angry at her party-girl antics, maybe because they’re played by Debbie Gibson and Corey Feldman. The only real casualty of the party? Kathy’s solar system model! Related Artists Katy Perry

Exclusive: Mannie Fresh Explains Lil Wayne Reunion At Bonnaroo

Wayne embraced his former Cash Money mate onstage during his Friday night set. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Ade Mangum Mannie Fresh at Bonnaroo 2011 Photo: MTV News MANCHESTER, Tennessee – One of the highlights of Lil Wayne’s headlining set at Bonnaroo on Friday – at least to the folks in attendance who’ve followed Weezy’s career since his Hot Boys days – was the moment when he brought Cash Money founding father Mannie Fresh onstage, ending a longtime separation that had existed since 2005, when Fresh parted ways with Birdman and the label under decidedly acrimonious conditions. When the two embraced onstage, it was symbolic in more ways than one: Not only did it show that Mannie and Wayne had never really been at odds, but it was a rather important passing of the torch too. And Fresh told MTV News as much, earlier in the day on Friday, when he said that the two really never been rivals … and hinted at bigger things to come later in the evening. “It’s a possibility. Like I said, there’s no beef. No animosity,” Fresh said. “I got a great deal of respect for Wayne. You know, from where he started to where he at right now. He’s on top of his game. So it’s a possibility [we could reunite]. You never know.” And as anyone who was in attendance for Wayne’s set could attest, that possibility definitely became a reality. For his part, Fresh wouldn’t speak about just how the pair settled their differences, but now that they’ve gone public with their reunion, could the duo could get back to their collaborative ways? It’s something Fresh isn’t about to write off. “That would be hot,” he said. “But, you know, my half, I’m there. We’re going to leave the rest of it on him, you know what I’m saying?” Would you like to see Wayne reconnect with Mannie Fresh in the studio? Tell us in the comments!
