Paramore’s ‘Playing God’ Video: Coming Home, Coming Full Circle

New clip was shot at Hayley Williams’ house in Franklin, Tennessee. By James Montgomery Paramore’s Hayley Williams in “Playing God” Photo: Fueled By Ramen Paramore’s Brand New Eyes was released nearly 14 months ago, spawned something like five singles, sent the band around the world and went gold in the U.S. All that is the prologue to their new “Playing God” video, which — though it never expressly states as much — feels very much like the band coming full circle, tying up loose ends and probably putting Eyes to bed for good. Of course, I’m just speculating about all that. It’s entirely possible Paramore may still wring a single or two out of Eyes, but I sort of doubt it. Especially since everything involving the “Playing God” clip — which premiered Tuesday (November 16) on the band’s website — seems to suggest otherwise. It was shot entirely at frontwoman Hayley Williams’ house in Franklin, Tennessee, the same house she gave MTV News a tour of last year, in the week leading up to Eyes ‘ release. There are moments — particularly those that feature her bandmates tied up in her basement, a single light bulb dangling over their heads — that recall the video for “Ignorance,” which was the first single from the album (and was also shot, in part, at Williams’ house). In one scene, Williams can be seen examining old band photos, and in another, she performs in front of the mirrors that not only hang in her guest room, but adorn the back cover of Eyes (they were bought at the Franklin Goodwill , BTW). The message — at least to me — appears clear: Paramore are returning home, looking back, wrapping things up. “Playing God” is a bittersweet, sentimental thing, a scrapbook of the past year of their lives, and the final chapter in the Brand New Eyes saga. It’s a story that began with the band’s future severely in doubt and concludes with them stronger, happier and better than ever. So if “God” really is the end of the BNE line, well, then it’s a fitting farewell. It’s time for the band to turn the page, to move on. It was a heck of an album and a heck of a ride, and I can’t wait to see where they go from here. What did you think of the “Playing God” video? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Paramore

I’ve had people eating the album, and I can’t take responsibility for that.” Perry also revealed how excited she’s been with the response to the album and its singles. “There’s not many more places to go than #1,” she said. “There’s number zero, but that could be a Catch-22.” Perry seemed most excited for her next big goal, which she intended to address right after the VMAs: “[I need] some sleep, because I’m really sick,” she said. “Nursing that cold!” What single do you want Katy to release next? Snooki’s Lawyer Enters Not Guilty Plea

‘Jersey Shore’ star was not in Seaside Heights courtroom for disorderly conduct case on Wednesday. By Gil Kaufman Snooki in her booking photo on July 30 Photo: WireImage A lawyer for “Jersey Shore” star Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi was in a Seaside Heights, New Jersey, courtroom on Wednesday (August 18), where he entered a not guilty plea on behalf of his client. According to The Associated Press, attorney Raymond Raya entered not-guilty pleas to three charges of disorderly conduct and creating a public nuisance stemming from a July 30 incident in which police said Polizzi became disruptive on the beach during filming for the show. Snooki did not appear at Wednesday’s hearing in municipal court in Seaside Heights, the shore town she and her housemates have made famous, thanks to their exploits on the MTV reality series. Prosecutors said Snooki, 22, could also face an additional public nuisance charge. A trial in the case is scheduled for September 8. Photos taken on the day of the arrest showed Snooki walking along the boardwalk with “Shore” pals Vinnie and Ronnie. In the images, the pint-size poofstress is sporting a hot-pink tiger-print T-shirt that reads “I Heart Snooki,” a baseball cap, a miniskirt and green slippers. She was reportedly taken in after beachgoers complained that she was bothering them. A week later, a defiant Snooki said that despite spending a few hours in police custody, taking a mascara-smeared mugshot and facing a potential fine of $250 to $1,000, she wasn’t sweating the arrest. “I don’t know why people are taking it so seriously,” Snooki told MTV News . “I had a couple cocktails and they just put me in a drunk tank to sober me up. I was on the beach. It happens to the best of us, and I’m not planning on going back to jail ever again. I was a public nuisance — big deal!” Even if she’s found guilty, Snooki will not face jail time, which is good, because she believes she’s way too fab to be behind bars. “I’m too pretty to be in jail,” she said. “I’m a good person. I’m not a criminal, and I will never go back there. … You can’t even contain me. When I was in there, I was like, ‘Can I come out? I can’t breathe!’ Not a fun place. I will never go back.” Watch “Jersey Shore” every Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on MTV. Related Photos Jersey Shore (Season 2) | Snooki

Taylor Swift Debuts Speak Now Cover Art

The ‘Mine’ singer dons a sparkly, princess gown for her latest album, due October 25. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift’s Speak Now Photo: Big Machine Records The countdown has begun. With a little less than two months until Taylor Swift releases her new album, Speak Now, fans can now get a peek at the album’s cover art. On Wednesday (August 18), Swift revealed what the October 25 LP will look like. The image shows Swift twirling in a sparkly, deep-purple gown. She completes the look with her signature curls and bright red lips. Fans are already loving Swift’s first single from the album, “Mine,” a country-tinged pop tune about the ups and downs of falling in love again after being hurt. The video for “Mine” is set to debut on August 27, with her “You Belong With Me” director, Roman White, onboard for this one too. And Swift is keeping up her track record of casting adorable male leads: In the latest, she’ll have the help of British import and “Black Swan” star Toby Hemingway. “I was doing some more research and watched another movie he was in called ‘The Covenant,’ ” she said about Hemingway. “I’ve got this crazy 13 lucky thing, and he walks onscreen for the first time wearing a sweatshirt with a 13 on it! That was the deciding factor. It wasn’t really up to me, it was about the number.” Swift will also perform the song during a CMA special next month. As for the album, Swift admitted she’s using her personal experiences as fodder for the tracks. “For me, I write everything that I live, so you got to give yourself a little bit of time to live a lot of things so you can write about a lot of things, and my only option is to write about what I’ve been through and what I’ve lived, so thankfully, in the past two years, I’ve experienced a lot of things that I’ve been dying to write about and a lot of things that I wanted to say in the moment that I didn’t,” she explained. Brandon Flowers’ Debut Single, ‘Crossfire,’ Hits The Net

Song is a preview of the Killers’ frontman’s solo album “Flamingo.” By James Montgomery Brandon Flowers Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images While his bandmates keep busy hanging out with members of Duran Duran and forming side projects with ominous-sounding names , Killers frontman Brandon Flowers has been prepping his solo debut, a glossy thing he’s calling Flamingo . And now, whether he’s ready or not, fans can get their first listen to the fruits of Flowers’ solo labors: A song called “Crossfire” hit the ‘Net this weekend. The song, a slow-burning, wide-screen epic on par with the Killers’ Sam’s Town era, features spiraling, Edge-ian guitars, trilling strings and a massive chorus, with Flowers keening “Lay your body down/ next to mine!” in a lithe falsetto. Elsewhere, he croons about the devil’s fiery arrows and a clandestine lover who keeps her secrets on her pillow. “Crossfire” is reportedly produced by Stuart Price, who helmed the Killers’ 2008 album Day & Age . Price is one of three big-name knob-twiddlers Flowers is working with on Flamingo . In May, he told the British mag NME that he had also recruited Daniel Lanois and Brendan O’Brien to produce, and that Rilo Kiley frontwoman Jenny Lewis would also appear on the disc. There’s currently no release date for Flamingo , nor is there any word from the Killers’ reps about whether or not “Crossfire” is actually the debut single from the album. Over on Flowers’ official site , however, an instrumental version of “Crossfire” autoplays and the title of the song is written in flaming letters at the bottom of the page. A spokesperson for Flowers did not respond to MTV News’ request for comment by press time. Related Artists The Killers

Outkast’s Big Boi Reveals Andre 3000’s Expanded Role On Solo Project

‘Royal Flush’ and ‘Looking for You’ from Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty reunite the Outkast duo. By Jayson Rodriguez Big Boi Photo: Johnny Nunez/ WireImage Big Boi is inching closer to finally delivering his long-in-the-works solo project Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, now set for a May 4 release. The Outkast rapper previewed selections from the album to media on Monday, including the record’s first single, “Shutterbug.” The syncopated, funk-drenched number finds the flashy MC toasting festive club nights. “Now party people in the club, it’s time to cut a rug/ And throw your drinks in the sky just for the shutterbugs,” Big raps on the hook. “Shutterbug” is the latest in a string of Big Boi tracks to hit the airwaves. The long-delayed album failed to materialize after the release of other songs, including the Mary J. Blige-assisted “Sumthin’s Gotta Give” and “Royal Flush,” featuring Outkast partner Andre 3000. But all that seems about to change. In an interview with DJ Delz Big Boi revealed that Andre 3000 would be featured prominently throughout the Sir Lucious Left Foot project. The aforementioned “Royal Flush,” produced by Three Stacks himself, reunites the Outkast duo, as does “Looking for You,” produced by Boi-1da, perhaps best known for his work on Drake’s “Best I Ever Had.” “It’s me and Stacks, two verses a piece, back to back, lyrical manslaughter,” Big Boi said of the latter collaboration. “Who’s better than the ‘Kast? Nobody.” Next up, according to the pair’s plan , Andre 3000 will release a proper solo debut before the two come together again for an Outkast album, which will be their first since 2006’s Idlewild, the soundtrack to the movie of the same name. What do you think of Big Boi’s new song, “Shutterbug”? Do you think the Big Boi songs featuring Andre 3000 will be as good as the duo’s Outkast records? Sound off in the comments below!
