Personally, I was captured by the first teaser trailer and then felt as if the clip and full trailer that followed were a bit scattershot. I was left not really knowing what to expect from the film. Kate Upton Carl’s Jr. Ad: Sexy or Sickening?

This ad for Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s new Southwest Patty Melt is mouth-watering. Or maybe that’s just Kate Upton, SI swimsuit cover model and It Girl of the moment. The burger features a charbroiled beef patty, with sliced jalapenos, grilled onions, pepper-Jack cheese and spicy Santa Fe sauce, all on grilled sourdough bread. The ad, which barely falls short of showing Kate Upton nude , features her going to town on that thing at a drive-in theater. This takes the term PDA to a new level. Maryland to Pass Gay Marriage Bill This Afternoon

A hard fought measure to legalize same-sex marriage will officially be signed into law in Maryland today. The signing is set for 5 p.m. in the State House. A marriage bill came within a whisker of passage in 2011, but was shelved in the House of Delegates at the last minute when leaders fell a few votes shy. Securing those “few votes” this year took up much of the first 45 days of Maryland’s General Assembly’s legislative session, but it eventually got done. Gov. Martin O’Malley will sign the bill into law today. Though both the House and the Senate chambers are dominated by Democrats, same-sex marriage was not an easy sell for the Democratic governor. Even with the governor’s signature today, same sex couples won’t get Maryland marriage certificates until the law goes into effect in January 2013. There’s also the threat of a vote to overrule the law. Fired-up opponents have pledged to collect 100,000 signatures opposing the bill by June 30. That’s about twice what they would need to trigger a state-wide referendum on the controversial topic, which would appear on the ballot in November. Maryland joins Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, Iowa and Washington in permitting same sex marriage rights. California’s controversial Prop 8, which banned same sex marriage, was recently declared unconstitutional , but faces a protracted appeals process.

Taylor Kitsch’s Super Bowl Ads Needed More Taylor Kitsch

‘Friday Night Lights’ actor, set to break out in ‘John Carter,’ ‘Battleship,’ should have been featured more prominently. By Kevin P. Sullivan Taylor Kitsch in “John Carter” Photo: Walt Disney Pictures Millions of people around the world were introduced to Taylor Kitsch Sunday night. The Canadian actor found himself at the center of two of the Super Bowl’s biggest movie ads for his first two starring roles, in “John Carter” and “Battleship,” but the trailers may not have been the first impression Kitsch was hoping for. Kitsch made a name for himself starring as the misunderstood bad boy Tim Riggins on the beloved but criminally under-watched NBC series “Friday Night Lights.” Riggins grew dear to the show’s viewers because of the charm and likability Kitsch brought to the character, despite a tough exterior. Throughout the show’s run, it was never a stretch to imagine the actor making the crossover to big-budget action movies with his charisma as hard evidence of his bankability. But for his Super Bowl debuts, the studios behind “John Carter” and “Battleship” took the focus off of their star and instead cut special-effects shots together, leaving Kitsch as little more than background noise. The “John Carter” trailer that aired during the game handled its time the most curiously. Beginning with a shot of Kitsch from the film, the footage grew smaller, eventually becoming part of a large collection of footage that formed letters spelling out the title of the film. By the time most of the video appeared on the screen, it was too small to make any sense of it. What many people may not have known was that an extended version of the commercial, one with full-sized footage from the film, appeared online shortly after. That trailer showed off Kitsch during action sequences instead of zooming away from him. The ad for “Battleship” approached promoting a big-budget sci-fi movie in a more traditional way, albeit one that also put Kitsch in the background. The spot played more like a commercial for the other series of movies based on Hasbro toys, “Transformers,” and the scattered nature of it might have left people wondering whether the film stars Kitsch, Liam Neeson or Rihanna . Sure, these are just commercials, but if 2012 is going to be the year that Taylor Kitsch makes the crossover from TV heartthrob to viable action star, studios ought to realize who they’re working with and put the man front and center. ‘Devil Inside’ Advance Screenings Draw Passionate Reactions

Fans report being terrified, but some critics tweet about audiences booing at film’s conclusion. By Kevin Sullivan, with additional reporting by Matt Elias Bonnie Morgan in “The Devil Inside” Photo: Paramount “The Devil Inside,” the latest entry in the found-footage genre, screened Thursday night for special sneak-preview audiences and had the crowds screaming for two very different reasons. Some of the audience members, like Adam Geldres, found themselves shaken up after the screening; Geldres insisted that it was “one of the scariest movies [he’s] seen.” Ashlei Lien felt the same way. After the screening, she told MTV News and said, “I don’t even want to pray, because I’m scared because in the movie he prays …” but she couldn’t finish her thought. The film, which follows a young woman as she travels to Rome to meet with her possessed and dangerous mother, garnered passionate reactions across the board, but Twitter told a different story than the viewers we caught up with after the screening. Passion is not always positive. Soon after the advance screenings ended, critics, who were also in attendance, took to Twitter to share the reactions many of them witnessed. Many reported booing at separate screenings as soon as the film ended. Drew McWeeny from HitFix ( @DrewAtHitFix ) shared his experience from a regular midnight showing. “Wow. ‘The Devil Inside’ is a big ol’ burn. Active booing in the (sold-out) theater tonight.” El Mayimbe from Latino Review ( @elmayimbe ) said that audiences were even more hostile at one New York screening. “Audience at NYC screening were ready to kill the filmmakers if they were in attendance. So they took it out on poor ushers.” SPOILER ALERT The controversy stemmed from the film’s ending, which comes abruptly and, as many people claim, arbitrarily. A title on the screen then directs fans to a website to find out more. 10 Images That Come to Mind When Looking at Helena Bonham Carter as Miss Havisham

Helena Bonham Carter’s upcoming turn as Miss Havisham in Mike Newell’s adaptation of Dickens’s Great Expectations is going to be a decadent one: In new photos from the film (set to debut in fall 2012), the Oscar nominee is fully made up as the manipulative spinster from the literary classic, and she’s wearing an original design by costumer Beatrix Aruna Pasztor. Though Carter appears younger than other actresses who’ve played Miss Havisham, the photos are just as crazy you’d expect. And sinister. And they call to mind 10 images that I thought I’d long repressed. Here they are — some are less hallucinogenic than others.
