Iran is filing a lawsuit against Argo , and while director Ben Affleck was snubbed for Best Director at the Academy Awards, hopefully he can at least win this. The state-run press is apparently going after internationally-renowned lawyer Isabelle Coutant-Peyre. The suit claims the film presented an Iraniphobic portrayal of the historical conflict. The film was admittedly pro-America, which is a tad surprising considering Affleck’s liberal activism and general anti-war disposition. But, come on, if you’re gonna sue the guy for a movie, let’s start with Gigli . That said, Iran really has no legs to stand on here. Calling Argo propaganda is kind of a laugh coming from a country whose president famously claimed there are no gay people there. Also, a dangerous precedent could be set here. If countries can sue movies, the next thing you know, restaurants will start suing iPhone apps, book clubs will start suing sailboats, laundromats will start suing soggy fries. Slippery slope, people! Slippery slope!

This week, he admitted the show messed up firing Curry – or at least how it was handled – but he also made other comments that were less flattering. He told the Daily Beast that she wasn’t his first choice to replace Meredith Vieira, and that he lobbied for Katie Couric to rejoin the show instead. The two were even prepared to team up on a syndicated daytime show, but negotiations broke down and Katie went to ABC, while Matt stayed put. Caught in the crossfire – as she was back then – is Ann. “Ann just wants to move on from her departure from Today, and she has,” says a source. “However, she isn’t allowed to give any media interviews.” “Ann was infuriated by Matt’s comments. The network has said from the onset of Ann’s demotion from the show that Matt had no power over the decision.” “Yet, in the same interview he admits to talking to Katie Couric for over a year. Clearly, Matt has a lot of clout to be engaged in high level talks of a potential hire!” “It’s just another slap in Ann’s face.” How involved is he? Lauer was solely responsible for Curry’s ouster, according to some sources, while others describe his role as less substantive. Emily Smith, a sixth-grade math teacher at Winder Barrow Middle School, is accused of selling methadone, a synthetic opiate, and Xanax to an 18-year-old on Feb. 13, according to Channel 2 Action News. The girl, whom Smith considered a friend, was found dead the following night in her home. “Ms. Smith conspired with the victim by cellphone in reference to obtaining a controlled substance prior to her death,” Captain Faye Spaulding of the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office told Channel 2. Toxicology reports stated there were high levels of controlled substances in the teenager’s system, but the cause of death was not determined, according to Spaulding. “We are not sure how or why she was trying to obtain the controlled substance for the teenager,” the captain said. Conserative crazy lady Elizabeh Hasslebeck has been kicked to the curb! Elisabeth Hasselbeck Fired From ‘The View’ Via US Magazine reports: The people have spoken. Elisabeth Hasselbeck, one of the five cohorts of ABC’s daytime talk show The View, will not be returning to the couch next season, following hot on the footsteps of fellow cohost Joy Behar, a source tells Us Weekly. According to the source, the show’s resident conservative voice is being ousted after market research revealed that she isn’t popular with TV audiences. “The viewers they polled all said she was too extreme and right wing,” the insider tells Us. “People did not watch the show because of Elisabeth. So they told her yesterday her contract would not be renewed.” Hasselbeck, 35, joined the cast of the daytime talk show in November 2003 after guest-hosting the show following Lisa Ling’s departure in 2002. Throughout the course of her time on The View, she has gotten into numerous arguments with her cohosts, including a heated argument with Rosie O’Donnell in 2007 over the War in Afghanistan and with Barbara Walters over Mitt Romney in 2012. Earlier this week, Behar, 70, announced her own departure from the show after 16 1/2 years. “You can’t stay forever on a show,” she told Good Morning America. “I am graciously exiting stage left. I’ve put in 16 1/2 years and felt the time was right. I want to explore other opportunities.” Adds the source to Us: “Joy says it just felt … tired and like work.
