Russell Brand Discusses On-Set ‘Arthur’ Antics

The comic actor talks about acting drunk, receiving an unexpected call from Coldplay’s Chris Martin while filming his new movie. By Kara Warner Russell Brand Photo: MTV News In Russell Brand’s new film, “Arthur,” he plays a hapless, immature and perpetually drunk billionaire who is faced with losing his inheritance if he marries the wrong woman. Now while Brand is known for his outrageous antics, he’s been sober since he spent three months in rehab in 2003. So, when MTV News caught up with Brand recently during the press day for “Arthur,” we asked him if he enjoys making believe that he’s liquored up. “Yes, it’s brilliant; it’s a right laugh. I love pretending to be drunk,” Brand said. “I had a real hoot. [You] can sort of stagger around. We were filming in New York, there’s crowds of people everywhere, hanging out, so I could just wander among them, pretend to be drunk, beg for change occasionally.”

Katy Perry Says Her ‘Honest’ Anthems Are Highlight Of Arena Shows

‘When I’m playing ‘Firework,’ the whole arena literally moves up and down,’ she tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Katy Perry Photo: MTV News Katy Perry has been hitting the road on her California Dreams World Tour , which hits the States in June. Her colorful live show includes costumes to match and choice cuts plucked from the singer’s repertoire. Some of those tunes, specifically songs from last year’s Teenage Dream, are proving to be more than just a good time for fans — they’re also inspirational. “I always want to be completely honest and, for this record in particular, I knew from the outside world, a lot had changed. [But] I was hoping that I was still the same me, [the] kind of quirky, weird-perspective girl that I’ve always been,” she told MTV News recently. “But you know, there was a lot of distraction and glitz and glam. When you get to a certain point, you have to push it all away and remember what your core is, and that’s what I did for this record.” So, before she hit the road or the recording studio, Perry headed home to Santa Barbara, California, and took it all back to the beginning, before she was a famous pop star with an over-the-top life. “I started writing songs like ‘Firework’ and ‘Teenage Dream’ and songs that I think now are anthems for people,” she explained. “When I’m playing ‘Firework,’ the whole arena literally moves up and down. It’s the song that people are holding onto and inspired by.” Perry admitted that something as simple as a Hollywood party can be fun fodder for a song, but these days she likes to go a little deeper. “I feel really happy that I took that time to not write about DJs and fame, the materialistic world, which is great ’cause I love those glitz-and-glamour bells and whistles, but I know people connect to more substantial [lyrics].” Which Katy Perry song are you most eager to hear her perform live? Afrojack Discusses His Part In Chris Brown’s ‘Look At Me Now’

Dutch dance producer tells MTV News how he contributed to C. Breezy’s Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes, Diplo collabo. By Akshay Bhansali Afrojack in an MTV News Skype interview Photo: MTV News Afrojack already had reason to celebrate as he headed into the new year. The Dutch dance-music producer’s pop/dance single “Take Over Control,” featuring singer Eva Simons, made the top 25 on Billboard ‘s Dance/Club Play Songs chart in December. And now his second U.S. release, packed with hip-hop heavy-hitters, seems primed for chart success. MTV News caught up with the EDM producer (born Nick van de Wall) for a skype chat last week, and he talked about his contribution to Chris Brown’s “Look at Me Now,” the latest offering from the singer’s upcoming F.A.M.E. album. The track is a fast-rapping flurry of awesome self-indulgence courtesy of Busta Rhymes, Lil Wayne and Chris, with an eerie downtempo beat cooked up by chefs Afrojack and Diplo. The pair of producers previously collaborated on “Pon De floor,” off Diplo’s Major Lazer full-length release, and according to Afrojack, “Look at Me Now” is the product of a beat he’d passed along to the Philadelphia producer. “Yeah, Diplo called me,” Afrojack recalled. “He was like, ‘We are in the studio right now, and we are gonna do a track on the beat.’ And I was like, ‘OK, whatever. Have fun.’ ” Eventually, “Look at Me Now,” was born. While Afrojack sounded casual about the song’s evolution, he said he’s certainly pleased with the finished product. “I just love these kind of people on a track like this,” he said. “It’s like hip-hop, but really weird kind of hip-hop. “Busta’s verse on it is really sick,” he continued. “It’s like I can’t even hear what he said, but I love the part where he goes [ mimics Busta’s rapid flow ], and then pauses and goes rapping really quickly. And I don’t know how to do it, I don’t even try. But it was really, really cool.” So what’s next for Afrojack? Apart from working on a remix for Pitbull , he premiered a new single exclusively for MTV News that we will be sharing with you very soon. All you Afrojack fans stay tuned! By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears’ “Hold It Against Me” Photo: Jive Don’t hold it against her, but Britney Spears has a hit on her hands. Her new track, “Hold It Against Me,” which was released last week, topped the Billboard Digital Songs chart . The Dr.Luke/ Max Martin-produced song, the lead single from the singer’s yet-untitled March album, sold 411,000 downloads in its first week available for purchase. The debut also means that Spears broke a record. According to Billboard, that is Spears’ best sales week for a digital song as well as largest debut for a woman as a lead artist. She beat out the record previously held by Taylor Swift . In February, Swift’s “Today Was a Fairytale” sold 325,000 downloads; incidentally, Swift broke the record previously held by Spears when that track debuted at the top of the charts. Spears bumps Bruno Mars’ “Grenade” to #2; Wiz Khalifa moved up the chart to #3 with “Black and Yellow,” followed by Katy Perry’s “Firework,” which dropped two spots to #4. Other newcomers to the chart include Avril Lavigne’s “What the Hell” at #6 and Jay-Z and Kanye West’s collaboration, “H.A.M.,” at #10. Enrique Iglesias’ “Tonight (I’m Lovin’ You)” (#5), the Black Eyed Peas’ “The Time (Dirty Bit)” (#7), Lil Wayne’s “6 Foot 7 Foot” (#8) and Ke$ha’s “We R Who We R” (#9) round out the top 10. Spears is also the top seller on iTunes. Last week, when the song was released, Spears immediately jumped to the top of the iTunes charts in 16 countries . “This is absolutely incredible!” her manager Adam Leber tweeted last week’s about the song’s success. “Brit’s fans never cease to amaze me.” Are you feeling “Hold It Against Me”? Christina Milian Talks Marriage To The-Dream, Infidelities

‘I’ve been to hell and back, but I survived,’ she says of her divorce from the singer/songwriter. By Jayson Rodriguez Christina Milian Photo: Getty Images While The-Dream has spoken out about his split from wife Christina Milian, saying he considered suicide after their separation, the “Dip It Low” star has remained quiet. Now, however, Milian has shared her feelings about the divorce in an interview with Latina magazine. The Cuban-American entertainer also touched on adultery allegations against The-Dream, with whom she has a daughter, Violet. “No matter what, you can’t change who you are. I know that now. I tried to be someone I wasn’t because I wanted my marriage to work. But ultimately, if it’s not working, it’s not working,” she explained. “I didn’t know anything,” Milian added about cheating rumors involving her songwriting ex-husband. The-Dream and his assistant were photographed in intimate photos on what appeared to be a vacation while he was still married to Milian. “But looking back, my gut was telling me something was off. But I thought I could fix it.” Last summer, The-Dream wrote a blog post on his site, shared his feelings about the end of his marriage. “I take FULL RESPONSIBILITY for misleading everyone into thinking everything was fine and okay when we knew problems existed for awhile! I wanted to speak up but we decided it wasn’t for anyone to know,” he wrote in July. “I would NEVER intentionally hurt a soul and everyone around me knows that!” Just five months before that revelation, he and Milian had welcomed daughter Violet , Christina’s first child. The couple appeared to be in wedded bliss, but later jointly announced they had been separated for some time , and the pair eventually divorced. “I learned a lot about myself this year,” Milian told the magazine about the ordeal. “I learned what I can handle. I learned how much I can take. I learned who I am and what I will accept for myself and my daughter.” Up next, she said she’ll focus on Violet but didn’t talk specifically about resuming her career. “I feel brand-new,” she said. “I’ve been to hell and back, but I survived. I’m stronger for it and now I’m ready for the next phase of my life.” Related Photos Before They Got Hitched: The-Dream & Christina Milian Related Artists Christina Milian

Aubrey O’Day Reveals Name Of Oxygen Reality Show

The singer took to Twitter on New Year’s to make the announcement, two days after a clip of her new song hit the Internet. By James Dinh Aubrey O’Day Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Since her headline-making photo spread for Playboy and her Las Vegas “Peepshow” production , Aubrey O’Day has been remaining quiet as she conjures up plans for a comeback. And with the help of her forthcoming Oxygen reality show , the former Danity Kane singer is intent on showcasing her return to the music scene. Perhaps taking a page from Lady Gaga , the starlet took to Twitter on New Year’s Day to make a big announcement about her new series. “OH My lovely fans… My reality show on Oxygen is called ‘All About Aubrey’!” she tweeted shortly after midnight. With the reality show airing in the coming months, fans can expect to hear lots of new music from the 26-year-old songstress. Her latest musical offering to hit the Internet is sure to make Danity Kane fans squirm, as O’Day has reunited with her former bandmate Aundrea Fimbres for a duet called “Ego Trippin.” A clip of the tune hit the Internet on Thursday. On the retro-sounding number, the “Aubrea” duo team up for some girl power as they take a few stabs at their self-absorbed boyfriends. “Your ego is trippin/ I think you need to bring it down (Turn your ego down)/ Your ego is trippin/ That’s why I don’t want you around (I don’t want you around),” the gals sing together. When MTV News caught up with Ms. O’Day back in October , the singer admitted that viewers can expect to see her in her always honest and blunt glory on the reality series. “Well, Oxygen’s motto is living out loud, so I would say you’re going to see Aubrey O’Day living out loud,” she explained. “I don’t think I’ve not done that, but obviously my voice is a bit outspoken, and I really don’t play by anyone’s rules, so I think you’ll see a lot of that rebellious tendency that I have.” Are you excited to watch ‘All About Aubrey’ and hear more new music from the singer? Rihanna Poses Nude On ‘Only Girl (In The World)’ Cover

Art for first single from Loud shows singer with long, red hairdo. By James Dinh Rihanna (file) Photo: Jamie McCarthy/ WireImage Rihanna has ditched her clothes (and her short hairdo) for the cover art of her new single “Only Girl (In The World).” In the photo, which surfaced on Rap-Up.com , the Barbadian pop singer is seen crouched down in a field, wearing nothing but jewelry and holding a rose-embroidered dress that is bright red; her hair is long and wavy and a similar shade. “Only Girl (In The World)” is the first release from the singer’s fifth album, Loud . Earlier this week, Rihanna chatted with fans about the album’s direction , saying, “I made sure not to let you down with my music! You guys are always defending me, so now you’ve got some great songs to justify it. I didn’t want to go backward and remake [2007’s] Good Girl Gone Bad .” In addition to the cover art, the singer’s official website has been revamped to showcase her most recent tattoo, which says “rebelle fleur” (French for “rebel flower”). The New York Post reported that the singer recently shot advertisements for her debut fragrance, Reb’l Fleur, at New York complex Chelsea Piers with the help of Frank Ginsberg. This isn’t the first time that Rihanna has stripped down for a photo shoot. Last year, she wrapped her bare torso in barbed wire for the cover of her single “Russian Roulette” and posed topless for the cover of “Wait Your Turn.” What do you think of the cover of Rihanna’s new single?
