According To Kid Cudi, More Collab Albums With Kanye West Are In The Works

See the original post:

Source: Getty Last month,  Kid Cudi  and  Kanye West  finally released their highly anticipated collaboration album,  Kids See Ghosts.  Many people were struck with feelings of wanting more, since the seven-track project spanned just under 30 minutes–but if the project left you yearning for music, you’re in luck. The longtime friends and collaborators may have even more in store for fans. In his recent cover story with  Billboard ( published on Thursday, July 19), Cudi detailed his plans to create more albums in the same vein as his most recent effort with Kanye. “There are some songs that we didn’t use that I’m hopeful we can put out later. But the plan is to do more  Kids See Ghosts  albums,” Cudder revealed. He also speaks on the fact that he thinks him and West will always produce “awesome sh*t” together. “We just have this chemistry that’s undeniable, especially when we have to fight for it with each other,” he continued, adding that  Kids See Ghosts  took “a little over a year-and-a-half to just get it tight,” though the songwriting itself wasn’t difficult. “It’s really easy for us,”  he added. Also in the candid interview, Kid Cudi dishes on his time he spent in Wyoming creating the album, particularly commenting on his moments with Nas who also delivered a seven-track project this summer.  “It was really cool to be around Nas. That was the illest. We’d be chilling in the room, and then Nas would leave and we’d be like, ‘That’s fucking Nas.’ We’d be asking him questions about coming up in Queens, did he know Biggie , all these questions,” Cudi said excitedly. He continued, “I had a ball out there, man. Kanye had his family around. He had his dad there. And we knew what songs we wanted to use. We had ‘Reborn.’ We had ‘4th Dimension.’ We just took our time fine-tuning the process.” You can read Kid Cudi’s entire interview and cover story with Billboard here . Hopefully, more details regarding Cudi and Ye’s future music surfaces sooner than later.

Swirl Gone Wrong: Robin Thicke Admits That His ‘Paula’ Album Was ‘Embarrassing’

Poor thang … Robin Thicke Admits That His Attempt To Win Paula Patton Back Was “Embarrassing” After the release of his “Paula” album dedicated entirely to his estranged wife Paula Patton , Robin Thicke was embarrassed. According to the R&B crooner he was told to “go away for a while” after “looking like a sucker” by begging to get her back. Billboard reports: My supersaturation came right after I performed on the BET Awards [in June 2014]. I dedicated the performance [of the song “Forever Love”] to my ex. And I came home, and my best friend of 20 years, Craig Crawford, said, “I saw your BET performance.” And I said: “Oh yeah! What did you think?” You know — excited. And he goes: “I gotta be honest with you, buddy. You’re kind of playing yourself. You look like a sucker.” And it hit me that I’d lost my perspective. What I thought was romantic was just embarrassing. And he said, “You should just go away for a while.” So I shut everything down. I took some time off to be with my son, and to be with my family and close friends. And the more time I took off, the more everything became clear. And on his “embarrassing instead of romantic” album; Look, my songwriting has always been autobiographical, and always will be. The “Paula” album was no different. I was struggling through my toughest time, and I decided to share it. And I remember my team and my record company didn’t want me to put it out, but they stuck by me. In hindsight, the only thing I would have done differently was, I wouldn’t have promoted it or sold it. I would have given it away. That would have kept the purity of the message intact. Too bad he did all that for nothing. What do YOU think about Robin admitting that his album was embarrassing???

Red Hot Chili Peppers Heat Up Bonnaroo’s Saturday Night

In their first appearance at the festival, RHCP unleash raucous energy. By Mary J. DiMeglio Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Anthony Kiedis Photo: Rya Backer/ MTV News MANCHESTER, Tennessee — In a two-hour set that absolutely flew by, the Red Hot Chili Peppers proved Saturday night that they’re still the hardest-working band in the business. Their incomparable energy was on full display in their first Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival appearance as they tore through their nearly 30-year catalogue. A little more than two months into a tour schedule that has them performing nonstop through the end of November, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees opened with “Monarchy of Roses,” the first track on their most-recent release, I’m With You . “Factory of Faith” and “The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie” also represented that disc. Highlights included the RHCP classics “Give It Away,” “Suck My Kiss,” “Under the Bridge” and their cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Higher Ground.” As if his bass playing isn’t impressive enough, Flea deftly made his way across the stage in a handstand. The bassist clearly caught Bonnaroo fever, gushing, “I feel peace and love and kindness everywhere I walk around here.” He praised the weekend’s earlier performances from St. Vincent, Dumpstaphunk, Santigold and the Roots, calling Radiohead’s Friday night set “so f—ing beautiful.” RHCP, who will headline this year’s Lollapalooza , also pulled out “If You Have to Ask” from 1991’s Blood Sugar Sex Magik and By the Way cut “Throw Away Your Television.” On a very warm night that had festivalgoers running through the fountain at 2:30 a.m., Skrillex brought huge smiles to the faces of EDM fans. Also Saturday, metal legend Alice Cooper’s show packed That Tent, which earlier in the day hosted a succession of hard rock and punk acts, including Bad Brains, Flogging Molly, Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan’s Puscifer and Danzig. Hip-hop also had a strong showing, as the Roots, Das Racist and GZA performing Liquid Swords with Grupo Fantasma all got heads nodding. Childish Gambino projected the lyrics to “You See Me” on the giant screen behind him so his fan boys and girls could sing along. Friday featured Radiohead, Feist, Ludacris, Foster the People, and Mos Def and Talib Kweli as Black Star. The festival wraps up Sunday (June 10) with the Beach Boys, Phish, the Shins, Fun. and Bon Iver. Are you at Bonnaroo? Share your review in the comments below! D’Angelo Joins Questlove For Historic Superjam At Bonnaroo

R&B singer hits the stage during early morning hours his first U.S. performance in 12 years. By Nadeska Alexis Questlove and D’Angelo Photo: Rya Backer/ MTV News MANCHESTER, Tennessee — Questlove always has a few tricks up his sleeve, and the Roots drummer saved his one of his biggest stunts in recent history for Saturday night’s “Superjam” session at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. Just a couple hours after the Roots finished their own set on the festival’s main stage, D’Angelo joined Questlove for his first U.S. performance in over a decade. The Superjam session (billed as “?uestlove with very special guests”) didn’t kick off until well after midnight at “This Tent,” and Quest wasn’t on the stage for long before he proudly introduced the legendary R&B singer to the crowd, telling them, “I’ve been waiting 12 years to say this: Ladies and gentleman, D’Angelo!” After warming up with a few recent shows in Europe , D’Angelo finally made his way to a stage in the states. With the support of a nine-piece band and musical veterans like Roots collaborator James Poyser, D’Angelo joined Quest for over an hour, opening with Jimi Hendrix’s “Have You Ever Been (to Electric Ladyland)” and hitting songs like the Beatles’ ‘She Came in Through the Bathroom Window” and Led Zeppelin’s “What is and What Should Never Be.” Rumors of an appearance from D’Angelo had been circulating through the music tents in Manchester, Tennessee all day, and when MTV News caught up with Questlove a few hours before the surprise set, he explained, without naming names, what his vision for the night was. ‘What I wanted to do was recreate the magic of the songwriting process at the time when I was taking residency in Electric Lady Studios,” he explained, referencing Jimi Hendrix’s studio facility built in New York’s West Village in 1970. “I made that my central location from 1996 ’til about 2004, and during that time that’s where D’Angelo’s Voodoo album as created, Mos Def’s Black on Both Sides was created, and even some of Phrenology and The Tipping Point was created,” he said. “That was really the central location for our soul querying catalog, so what I’ve done [for the Superjam] is gathered a cast of characters to show what a night in that period was like.” And what exactly what a typical night in Electric Lady Studios like? “Around 3 a.m., we would sit around bored and decide what album to re-do,” he reminisced. “So let’s say Prince’s Under the Cherry Moon album — we would get in the studio and karaoke-style do the album from start to finish. But if at any point we started playing something that sounded good, we kept playing the groove over it, then all the music would go away, the drums would still go … and it slowly morphed into another song. That was our songwriting process. So tonight, eight musicians of historical significance will be on stage and when we’re in that circle, it’s just gonna be the eight of us. I’m not even gonna look at the thousands of people watching.” The thousands of people who were watching had a hard time believing that D’Angelo was really jamming at the late-night set, and it’s safe to say that not one of them was “bored” as Questlove joked they might be. The next time fans will be able to catch D’Angelo live is at the upcoming Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, where he’ll likely treat crowds to his own classics. Are you at Bonnaroo? Mumford & Sons’ New Songs Get ‘New Life’ On Tour

‘Ghosts’ is one song being road-tested for Sigh No More follow-up. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Matt Elias Mumford and Sons Photo: MTV News Mumford & Sons recently told MTV News that they’re “still recording” the follow-up to their breakthrough Sigh No More album, which, while certainly understandable (given their schedule), is also rather unbelievable — especially since they’ve been working on the new spate of songs almost as long as they’ve been on tour. “Most of them, we’re letting people hear as we’ve played live shows. We’ve kind of always just done that,” frontman Marcus Mumford explained. “We’ve kind of written a song and felt like we get it up to a point where it’s ready to play live, and then we go … and road test it, see how it goes. For us, we find that’s a really helpful way of writing, and performing the song ideas that we have live is a crucial part, for us, of the songwriting process.” And that’s especially true of “Ghosts,” a new song the band officially unveiled last month during a Philadelphia radio station appearance. Though they’ve been working it into their live sets, the tune only took on its current — and, apparently, finished — form after performing it to audiences and tinkering with it afterward. “It’s probably the newest one we’ve been playing live, actually; that one came together really on our Canadian tour about a month ago, the first time started playing it,” multi-instrumentalist Winston Marshall said. “We tried recording it before, but it then took on a new life when we played it on that tour. … [The songs] always change when we play them live; the dynamics change a lot. When you play it to a new room, you’re playing it to new ears, and you’re listening to the song through their ears. So it’s really great to feel the song out.” And though it’s a new addition to their set, Mumford already count “Ghosts” among their favorites — if only for the fact that it actually gives them a chance to catch their collective breath. “It’s fun to play … it’s a kind of respite for us to just stand back and play a slower song,” Mumford said with a laugh. “It’s nice: gives us a moment to take stock.” Have you heard Mumford & Sons’ new songs live? ‘American Idol’ Vs. ‘Platinum Hit’: Kara DioGuardi Compares

‘Idol’ alum says she’s ‘way more myself’ on new songwriting reality competition. By Jim Cantiello Kara DioGuardi on “Platinum Hits” Photo: Bravo TV Kara DioGuardi is well aware of what you think about her, thank you very much. The former “American Idol” judge — who was already a major name in the songwriting community before she sat next to Simon, Randy, Paula and Ellen — can’t go a day without viewers approaching her to speak their mind. “People actually apologize to me,” the good-natured DioGuardi told MTV News on Wednesday morning (June 15). “They’ll go, ‘I didn’t even know you were in the music business. We thought you were some random girl they pulled off of Hollywood Boulevard that looked like Paula Abdul.’ ” Kara’s the first to acknowledge that she and live TV went together like chocolate and an onion, to paraphrase an infamous Cowell barb. Even worse, “It may have sent the message ‘Is she still writing? Does she have time to write?’ ” DioGuardi said before setting the record straight. “I was writing [new music] before [‘Idol’] shows. I co-wrote [Cobra Starship’s] ‘Good Girls Go Bad’ before a show, like two hours before! I was like, ‘We gotta bang this out. I got hair and makeup,’ ” DioGuardi recalled. “Don’t give your day job up. Always gotta keep the day job.” With Bravo’s “Platinum Hit,” a slick new songwriting reality competition that DioGuardi judges alongside host Jewel and celeb guests, Kara finally found a way to turn her day job into her TV job. Bonus: She can have a second take in the event of an “Idol”-esque gaffe, like calling Studio 54 “Studio 57” or forgetting how to count. “I’m way more myself,” DioGuardi said. “After nine hours of filming, you start to forget that you’re on a TV show, and then the New York part of me really comes out. I say, ‘Look, man. … Listen, bitch!’ ” she joked. Instead of banging on tables, calling contestants “sweetie” and raving about “artistry” the way she did on “Idol,” DioGuardi’s taking a different approach with her songwriting prot
