The Wanted Keeping U.S. Debut Album ‘Upbeat’

New single, ‘Chasing the Sun,’ is in ‘same vein as ‘Glad You Came,’ ‘ Tom Parker tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway The Wanted Photo: MTV News The Wanted will officially drop their U.S. debut album next month. They’ve been busy in the studio working on tracks to follow up their smash single, “Glad You Came.” And with so much enthusiasm coursing through America for boy bands , the guys are looking forward to launching this next phase in their careers. “You know, I think from the start when we were in the U.K. we got our first single, which was ‘All Time Low,’ and it set itself up,” Tom Parker told MTV News about the band’s control over their music. “And we all agree on a certain sound and ‘Glad You Came’ was probably as [far as] we went in terms of difference in sound, but we all kind of come to an agreement to keep it upbeat, usually.” Parker adds that when they do stray from that sound it doesn’t always work out. “We did a ballad and it wasn’t that great, if I’m honest with you,” he said. “We’ve got a new one called ‘Chasing the Sun,’ which is gonna go out to radio soon, so look out for it. It’s in the same vein as ‘Glad You Came’; it’s upbeat.” Now that they are knee-deep in getting their U.S. debut together, Jay McGuiness explains that despite the size of the group, the guys make decisions pretty easily. “We’re all pretty laid-back in coming to a decision that we all agree with,” he said. “We’re not gonna lie: Two years ago we were bitches to the record label, but now we’ve grown enough. We know what we’re doing now. We’re enjoying ourselves.” And that means that they are aiming to make something that will get American audiences pumped. Siva Kaneswaran added, “To be in the U.S. is amazing, but just as long as we go out there and be ourselves and the U.S. takes us as we are, we’re just coming over here to have a laugh.”

The Voice Battle Round: Juliet Simms vs. Sarah Golden

In a Battle Round clash of Juliet Simms vs. Sarah Golden, who would Cee-Lo pick? In a battle of strange costume choices, this would have been a toss-up, but Juliet showed command of the song and rocked out hard from the start on “Stay With Me.” Her gritty performance was just too much for Sarah, who seemed like a weak pop artist in need of serious auto-tune compared to the raw power of her adversary. Cee-Lo, not surprisingly, gave the nod to Juliet. Agree? Disagree? Watch below: Juliet Simms and Sarah Golden – Stay With Me (The Voice Battle Round)

The Voice Battle Round: Kim Yarbrough vs. Whitney Myer

In a Battle Round matchup on The Voice Monday evening, Kim Yarbrough squared off with Whitney Myer, who sounded off at the start, but then really got things going. She never could compete with Kim’s voice or pure stage presence, however, so it looked as though she was done from the start. Such is life in a sudden-death duet. Kim wasn’t too much of an opportunity to really showcase her voice, even, but she did the best with what she had, and the two did sound pretty strong as a pair. In the end, Adam Levine chose Kim to advance. The right call? Watch: Kim Yarbrough and Whitney Myer – No More Drama (The Voice Battle Round)

Ne-Yo: ‘Leave You Alone’ Video With Young Jeezy ‘Really A Movie’

‘We both kind of stayed in our own lanes but made it make sense,’ Ne-Yo tells MTV News of collaboration.’We both kind of stayed in our own lanes but made it make sense,’ Ne-Yo tells MTV News of collaboration. By Rob Markman Young Jeezy Photo: Chris McKay/ Getty Images While the literal definition of a movie is a motion picture, the DJ Khaled definition of a movie can range from a really great party to a hit record or a classic album. When it comes to the upcoming video for Young Jeezy and Ne-Yo ‘s new single “Leave You Alone,” the former definition applies, but judging from the video’s trailer , which was released online on Thursday, the DJ Khaled definition is also applicable. “Make sure you check for that video coming real soon. It’s a movie. Not even in a DJ Khaled sense; like, it’s really a movie,” Ne-Yo told MTV News on Sunday when he walked the red carpet before the 2012 NBA All-Star Game in Orlando. Ne-Yo didn’t want to give too much of the video’s plot away, but he did hint that Jizzle would be moving just a bit out of his comfort zone in the TAJ_TPK-directed clip. “We both kind of stayed in our own lanes but made it make sense,” Ne-Yo said. “I moved just far enough out of my lane to make sense for him and he moved just far enough out of his to make sense for me, but it’s still Ne-Yo, it’s still Jeezy, and it’s all good, trust.” Trailers for videos aren’t normally this dramatic, but the Jeezy-narrated clip is more Hollywood than hip-hop. The Snowman’s new female-friendly TM 103 single is a departure from his normal trap anthems, though Jeezy does well to stay in his character of thug motivator. On the track, Young raps about a forbidden love, while Ne-Yo’s R&B hook puts the age-old good-girls-love-bad-boys narrative in perfect context. The dramatic minute-and-a-half trailer does even more to illustrate the story. From the start, the ATL spitter reminds viewers of the pitfalls of his hustling lifestyle, having to watch his back and not being able to trust anyone. Doesn’t seem like love is in the cards for Jeezy, until a young beauty from a rival Latin crew catches his eye. “She been on my mind, but the problem was I could never see her face until now,” Jeezy said, setting up the video’s main plotline. “My life, this life, will never be the same again/ Her name is Olivia, yeah.” Young Jeezy’s “Leave You Alone” video will be out March 9. South Carolina Primary Results: Newt Gingrich Upsets Mitt Romney, Shakes Up GOP Race

Mitt Romney was likely never as much of a lock as the mainstream media seems to believe, but Saturday’s South Carolina primary results still came as a surprise. Newt Gingrich rose from the political ashes for the second time with two strong debate performances this week and pulled off an unlikely win in the Palmetto State. With 40 percent of the vote to Mitt’s 27, and nearly all precincts reporting, Newt won big and turned the fluid Republican presidential race on its head once again. Only a week ago, Romney seemed likely to win all three of the initial contests, a scenario that would have put him on a relatively clear path to the nomination. But with Thursday’s announcement that Rick Santorum actually won Iowa , followed by today’s results, Romney is now a front-runner who has lost two of three. The result marked a swift, extraordinary turnaround in Gingrich’s fortunes, after he finished well out of the top three in both Iowa and New Hampshire. So maligned was his candidacy that Newt himself had conceded his campaign might be over for good by tonight if he failed to turn in a strong performance. He did turn in such a performance, and as such, the quest to represent the GOP against President Barack Obama in November is quite far from over. This marks the first time that three different Republican candidates have won the first trio of contests in what has been an unpredictable race from the start. Since 1980, every South Carolina GOP primary winner has gone on to win the nomination, but whether Gingrich can continue that streak is far from certain. Romney has by far the most formidable financial resources and organization, giving him a big edge Florida, which holds its primary January 31, and beyond. Santorum finished third and Ron Paul fourth in South Carolina. The candidates square off in a debate once again Monday night in Tampa. Stay tuned … Newt South Carolina Victory Speech Clip

Jeremy Piven on I Melt With You and Searching for the Anti-Ari Gold

Mark Pellington’s bromantic thriller I Melt With You made quite the splash at Sundance , just not the kind a filmmaker necessarily wants to make: Critics walked out of the film, recoiling at the bleakness on display in the tale of four former college friends (Jeremy Piven, Thomas Jane, Rob Lowe, and Christian McKay), reuniting for a weekend bender, who confront their collective middle-aged disillusionment with increasingly violent ends. Co-star Piven knew from the start it would be a polarizing project to take on.

Emily Maynard: The Next Bachelorette?!

In the aftermath of her breakup with Brad Womack , Emily Maynard is reportedly in talks to become the star of The Bachelorette next season. Emily is “angling for the opportunity,” according to Us , which quotes a source: “She hasn’t officially signed on, but it looks like a done deal.” This would be a first on a number of levels. Not only did she win The Bachelor – ABC’s typical pattern is choosing a runner-up, as Ashley Hebert was to Emily – but it’s a year away. Though the single mom to 6-year-old Ricki has said appearing on the series is “the last thing on my mind,” the insider claims Maynard has other ideas. In addition to boosting her career profile (she’s an aspiring broadcaster,), Maynard seems eager to move on from Womack. Can’t blame her there. “He has issues, and you could tell from the start that it was never going to work with Emily,” another insider says, even though Em “tried her best.” “She gave it everything she had.” We’ll believe this when we see it, but if it is true that she’s actively seeking the starring role … how pissed is Bentley Williams right now!

Lindsay Lohan Rehab 911 Call: You Gotta Hear It!

This 911 tape offers new insight into the argument that went down between Lindsay Lohan and Betty Ford Center staff member Dawn Holland last December. Holland claims she busted Lindsay and two other girls jumping a wall (yes, really) at Betty Ford around 1 a.m. December 12, after their rehab-imposed curfew. During the 911 call, Lindsay and Dawn were both on the line on separate phones (yes, really). You know the backstory, now hear it for yourself … Lindsay Lohan Rehab 911 Call When Holland, who has since been fired by BF, tried to make the train wreck take a breathalyzer, she says “Lindsay Lohan pushed me and hit me with the phone.” Dawn claims the girls Lindsay was with were drunk, “reeking of alcohol.” During the call, Dawn claims she grabbed the phone to talk to the dispatcher, only to have Lindsay rip the phone away, spraining Dawn’s wrist in the process. Thus the allegations of assault that Dawn made. The Riverside County D.A. took its time investigating, but declined to prosecute Lindsay over the incident. Lindsay Lohan believes the 911 call of the Betty Ford incident backs her version of what went down with Dawn all along, and that she’s been vindicated. She’d already been cleared by the D.A., which is all that really matters, but this is LiLo. Let her celebrate any small victory she can lay claim to, right? Lohan says Dawn was “rude,” “aggressive” and “inappropriate” and that the tape proves she was only after money from the start. Not a huge stretch. Very early in the call Dawn says, “Get ready to be sued.” Lindsay may have won this round of legal battles, but there are bigger ones just ahead. She faces trial for grand theft (the necklace heist) this month.

By 6-to-1 Margin, Networks Paint Debate Over “Tax Cuts,” Not Raising Rates

Even with Monday’s deal between President Obama and top Republicans, no American’s income tax rates will actually decline on January 1 (although, if the deal passes, workers will notice a modest reduction in their payroll taxes in 2011). Yet throughout this debate, the broadcast networks have insisted on framing the debate as about “tax cuts” and “tax breaks,” not about forestalling a tax increase that could jeopardize the weak recovery. MRC analysts reviewed all 23 ABC, CBS and NBC evening news stories about the tax debate from the start of the lame-duck session of Congress on November 15 through December 5, just before the GOP and Obama struck their deal. Network reporters used the phrase “tax cut” a total of 71 times to characterize the issue at hand. CBS’s Nancy Cordes, for example, talked about “the battle over the Bush tax cuts” on the November 15 Evening News. Two nights later, NBC’s Chuck Todd related a new poll showing how “49 percent say don’t give the wealthy these tax cuts” — as if the “the wealthy” would be getting some new gift from the government. read more
