Due Date Trailer: Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis as Steve Martin and John Candy

As Todd Phillips’s follow-up to The Hangover , the expectations for Due Date were probably pitched a bit too high to begin with — and with Zach Galifianakis and Robert Downey Jr. on board (plus a high concept conceit), it’s no wonder. Yet that hype factor aside, shouldn’t this first trailer be a little funnier?

Todd Phillips’ Project X Finds Its Cast

As promised , the conspicuously titled Project X — the Todd Phillips/Joel Silver co-produced guerrilla comedy — had found its no-name cast: Miles Teller, Oliver Cooper, Jonathan Daniel Brown, Kirby Bliss Blanton, Dax Flame, Nichole O’C onnor, Thomas Mann and Alexis Knapp will all hope to become the next McLovin’ — or Zack Galifianakis — when they take part in the Nima Nourizadeh-directed comedy. Precious few details about Project X are available, but it reportedly “revolves around a group of kids documenting a house party that suddenly goes awry,” and that “like Cloverfield , the movie would unfold from the point of view of the person videotaping the party.” So this is the Cloverfield sequel you’ve been waiting for! It’s gonna be the best night ever, etc. [ Variety ]

‘Hangover’ Director Promises To Bring Back Mike Tyson For Round Two

‘I’ve got to find something for him, because he’s been texting me,’ Todd Phillips says of Iron Mike. By Todd Gilchrist, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images Last summer’s biggest comedy (and six-time MTV Movie Awards nominee ) “The Hangover” knocked out audiences like an uppercut from a heavyweight champion. And it stands to reason that director Todd Phillips would bring back the first film’s actual champ, Mike Tyson, for more sparring with co-stars Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms and Justin Bartha in the sequel. Saturday night at Spike TV’s Guys Choice Awards, Phillips told MTV News that he’s looking for a part that Tyson can play in “The Hangover 2.” “I’ve got to find something for him, because he’s been texting me,” Phillips said. “I’ve got to figure it out. We’re going to find something for Mike.” The director also explained that the focus of the sequel won’t shift a lot from the first film, although some new characters will be introduced. “It’s expanding a bit, obviously,” he said. “There’s new people to be introduced. But the core cast is still who it’s about.” Since the completion of “The Hangover,” Phillips reunited with Galifianakis for a comedy called “Due Date,” which also Robert Downey Jr. Phillips said that and Downey commiserated about the challenges of following up a successful film with a satisfying sequel. “I became really close with Robert Downey, and he, of course, did ‘Iron Man 2,’ and he’s doing ‘Sherlock 2,’ ” Phillips said. “And when we were doing ‘Due Date,’ he talked to me a lot about the pressure you feel when you’re shooting that sequel, especially [for] something as beloved as ‘The Hangover’ was and, of course, as ‘Iron Man’ was.” Although audiences will enter the sequel with a wealth of expectations, Phillips said there’s actually something exciting about that pressure. “I think there’s another part of it which is really exciting — [which is] when you’re doing a comedy, can we do it again?” he explained. ” ‘The Hangover’ really worked because there were so many surprises, and it’s like, can we capture that again? So I’m kind of excited about it.” Don’t miss the live red-carpet coverage, exclusive movie clips and fist-pumping action on MTV News’ “Jersey Shore Blow-Out at the MTV Movie Awards,” airing live from Los Angeles this Sunday, June 6, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Zach Galifianakis Tries To Out-Goofball Ben Stiller At The MTV Movie Awards

Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock make for an eclectic, tough Best Comedic Performance field on Sunday. By Todd Gilchrist Zach Galifianakis Photo: Warner Bros. Pictures To call Best Comedic Performance the goofiest of all MTV Movie Awards categories is not an insult. Quite frankly, when it comes to being a movie cut-up, goofier is better, and this year’s nominees include an eclectic group of performers who know how to make audiences giggle. Before the awards ceremony begins Sunday night at 9 p.m. ET, head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to check out clips of the nominees for Best Comedic Performance — and you can still vote for your favorite through Saturday (June 5). Ben Stiller in “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian” Ben Stiller is nothing if not put-upon in many of his roles, from “There’s Something About Mary” to “Meet the Parents.” But in “Battle of the Smithsonian,” Stiller elevates his underdog persona to heroic new proportions, playing Larry Daley for a second time as he scuffles with literal armies of historical figures who turn the iconic Washington, D.C., museum into a funhouse. Bradley Cooper in “The Hangover” Truth be told, Bradley Cooper’s appeal has as much to do with his good looks as his ability to make audiences laugh. But in “The Hangover,” he provides eye candy and comic timing in equal measures, playing a teacher who uses his students’ field trip money for his buddy’s bachelor party in Vegas. Facing off against tigers, tasers and the untamed facial hair of Zach Galifianakis, Cooper reminds comedy fans that you don’t have to look funny in order to be funny. Ryan Reynolds in “The Proposal” Ryan Reynolds, like Bradley Cooper, is certainly easy on the eyes, but his pedigree as a purveyor of yuks is decidedly more assured. In “The Proposal,” Reynolds plays the long-suffering assistant of a demanding book editor (played by fellow nominee Sandra Bullock) whose latest demand is that he marry her. Reynolds is predictably upset about his unexpected nuptials, but it’s a testament to the actor’s talent that he makes his character’s transformation from exasperated assistant to potential partner both believable and hilarious. Sandra Bullock in “The Proposal” Bullock has been a successful comedienne since the beginning of her career, but her success in the last few years shows that some performers only get better with age. In “The Proposal,” she plays Ryan Reynolds’ book-editor boss, a woman devoted to her career at the expense of everything else in her life — including renewing her work visa. Enlisting her frustrated assistant to marry her for citizenship, she turns the terrible-boss act into comedic gold. Zach Galifianakis in “The Hangover” Also nominated for Best Breakout Star, Zach Galifianakis crashed into mainstream comedy in a huge way last year. In “The Hangover,” he plays Alan Garner, a “gifted” groomsman who inadvertently drugs his buddies during their bachelor party and sets into motion plenty of morning-after hilarity while they hunt for the missing groom. Galifianakis is not only the comedic catalyst for the film’s story, but also the source of many of its most memorable moments and almost single-handedly helped Mike Tyson revive his career. Oh yeah, he also puts a pair of Blue Blockers on a baby and faces down a tiger. Zach Galifianakis Breaks Down MTV Movie Awards’ Breakout-Star Rivals

‘Hangover’ funnyman selflessly chooses ‘Precious’ star Gabourey Sidibe to take it home: ‘This woman should win it.’ By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Zach Galifianakis Photo: MTV News UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Zach Galifianakis was everywhere in 2009. There was his breakout turn as a loveable bearded doofus in “The Hangover,” his co-starring role as a loveable bearded doofus in HBO’s “Bored to Death” and all manner of Web vids and big-screen cameos as a … well, you get the idea. In that inimitable deadpan manner of his, Galifianakis professes to be utterly sick of himself. He’s in the minority. Fans have voted him into the category of Best Breakout Star at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards. And while the voting is still going on over at MovieAwards.MTV.com , Galifianakis assessed his competitors and came away convinced another star would walk away with the win this Sunday. He called “Up in the Air” actress Anna Kendrick “good,” while Chris Pine of “Star Trek” was dubbed a “handsome man.” Of Oscar-nominated Gabourey Sidibe (“Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire”), Galifianakis said with a devilish grin, “I haven’t seen that movie, but she and I have the same trainer.” Nor had Zach checked out the “The Blind Side,” though he wished Quinton Aaron “good luck” in the Breakout Star category. Which brought Galifianakis back to Sidibe. “This woman should win it,” he declared. Not that he’ll be there to take in the festivities at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California. “When is it?” he asked us at one point. Sunday, June 6, Zach. “Oooh boy,” he responded. What, you have somewhere better to be? “You know what? I can’t,” he confessed. “I have a palm reading that day.” Don’t miss the live red-carpet coverage, exclusive movie clips and fist-pumping action on MTV News’ “Jersey Shore Blow-Out at the MTV Movie Awards,” airing live from Los Angeles this Sunday, June 6, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
