Breach Code Stolen From PAX 2010

I checked out Atomic Games’ upcoming multiplayer shooter Breach when the company was in our offices last week, and it’s really good, but it’s not worth going to jail for. Sadly, a gamer at PAX may not have gotten this message. Apparently, Justin D. May, 20, of Wilmington, Delaware, was at PAX

The Verdict: Microsoft Game Room

There are already a lot ways to play old games: Download MAME, blow the dust off your old systems, play Flash clones on the internet…and those are just the free ways. If you spend a couple bucks you can download tons of older games from the major consoles’ networks, or pick up an Atari 2600 on eBay for a song. Given the availability of retro titles, Microsoft Game Room has to do a lot to justify its existence. Thankfully, Game Room tries to do more than just provide another way for you to play hoary “classics.” Instead, it creates a unifying experience around older games by

Mid-Day Discussion: I Want To Break Apart Just Cause 2

Just last week, I confessed a desire to skip the nearly intolerable cut-scenes in Just Cause 2 , a game whose completely ridiculous gameplay scenarios trump the afterthought of a story. Besides that, however, I’m having flashbacks of experiences with previous open world video games where I eventually became fed up with having to rely on the in-game economy. Just Cause 2 is a game designed for unexpected things to happen. Several times now, I’ve requested a vehicle to be floated in and watched as the vehicles hit the ground, reacted to the physics badly, tumbled down a mountain and blew up. Money is actually a difficult commodity to come by in Just Cause 2 , which means throwing away $35,000 on a helicopter might actually end up breaking the bank. To be fair, I was laughing the whole time. Watching a helicopter drop from the sky, hit a rock at just the wrong angle and explode into flames is hysterical. I just wish J ust Cause 2 had a built-in insurance clause for these moments, a more fluid economy or — and this may sound just as sacreligious as my easy mode argument from last week — a cheat code for infinite cash. I’d happily turn it on. (And for the record, though I’ve been criticizing Just Cause 2 , I’m hopelessly in love with it.) Have something to share? Sitting on a news tip? E-mail me . Xbox Live’s Game Room Not Getting More Games Until Late April

If you’re not happy with the launch lineup for Microsoft’s nostalgia-tinged Game Room service for Xbox Live, it’s going to be a few weeks before the arcade sees some changes. A Microsoft representative responded to questions in the official Xbox message boards about the next wave of Game Room additions and clarified the next wave wouldn’t arrive until sometime in late April. “Just wanted to provide some clarification on when you can expect to see new games up on Game Room, as there appears to be some confusion around that area,” said the representative. “New games will be added to the service every week, starting in late April. “In the meantime, the team would love to see your feedback on the current set of games and the games you’d like to see in the future.” To be honest, I still haven’t downloaded Game Room (a combination of PAX East fatigue and my spare time being spent making progress in the great

Microsoft Picks Up Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet For Xbox Live Arcade

Microsoft is on a roll lately. The company recently picked up one of my favorites from the Independent Games Festival, Limbo , and has followed that up with another promising indie: Michel Gagne and Fuelcell Games’ amazingly bizarre looking Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet . Fuelcell Games was apparently in talks with several companies and distribution options for Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet , but the studio decided Xbox Live Arcade was the best path for them. “This is one of the most thrilling projects of my career,” said Gagne in a press release posted on their official web site . “I love working on ITSP [ Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet ] with Joe and his team. It amazes me to see how they’re able to expand on my concepts and animations and create such a memorable interactive experience. Simply put, this game is going to rock!” There are no details on when Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet might arrive on the service (please be 2010!), but click below to check out a trailer. You’ll be just as excited as I am by the time it finishes.

Sam Fisher Destroys The White House On April 13

In the trailer below, Sam Fisher is taking a little visit to Washington D.C. and destroying anyone who gets in his way. Even The White House has no defense that can stop him, because when you kill a father’s only daughter you push that man to the edge of darkness. Wait, if Fisher destroys our central government, does that mean I don’t have to do my tax returns? Uncle Sam may want me, but he won’t want Sam Fisher knocking on his door. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction comes out on the Xbox 360 on April 13 and for PC users the release date in on April 27.
