O-Town, ‘NSYNC make our list of boy bands that should get back together. By Jocelyn Vena 98 Degrees in 1999 Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ Getty Images It’s about to get 98 Degrees and hotter in the boy-band bonanza. Nick Lachey’s old group is rumored to be getting back together to launch a summer tour. Sources tell Rumorfix that the band, which has been on a decade-long hiatus, is about to announce a 15-city trek set to take place in July and August. A formal announcement should be made in the next week. One source told the site that the tour would serve as a thank-you to the band’s fans. Rumors of a reunion kicked off on Wednesday, when the band’s website got a face-lift that includes a spanking new logo and a Twitter feed with the guys’ official pages scrolling through the homepage. A rep for the band had not responded to MTV News’ request for comment by press time. Given all the love boy bands are getting these days ( see One Direction and the Wanted ), there are still some that might want to capitalize on the mania sweeping the world. Here are MTV News’ picks for the groups we’d love to see get back together. O-Town O-Town was the product of the reality show “Making the Band.” Once managed by imprisoned boy-band impresario Lou Pearlman, the guys managed to put their reality-show pedigree behind them and launched a short-lived, successful run that included hits like the chart-topping “Liquid Dreams.” ‘NSYNC This would be the gold-star reunion. ‘NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys were the two boy bands of the late-’90s revival that reached mega heights of fame and success. Several albums into their career, there appeared to be no stopping Justin Timberlake and the boys. But in 2002, they went on a “temporary hiatus” and have never looked back. Westlife Westlife plan to break up later this year after they wrap up their 2012 tour. But now seems like the right time to keep it going a little bit longer. Given America’s love for boy bands that hail from the U.K., Westlife, who found fame under the guidance of Simon Cowell and serenaded ladies with tracks like “Swear It Again,” might just want to stick around and ride out this latest wave of boy-band love. Which boy band would you love to see get back together? Tell us in the comments!
Nick Cannon, Mac Miller and Fat Joe will help put fresh spin on iconic ‘Hollywood Squares’ with new show, set to premiere May 22. By Rob Markman “Hip Hop Squares” Photo: MTV2 Hip-hop is going Hollywood — or is it the other way around? On May 22, MTV2 will premiere “Hip Hop Squares” , a fresh new take on the iconic tic-tac-toe game show “Hollywood Squares.” Nick Cannon, DJ Khaled, Fat Joe, Mac Miller and Machine Gun Kelly will be featured as contestants. “Jackass” crewmember Bam Margera, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley and Wu-Tang’s Ghostface Killah also will appear on the show, hosted by New York radio DJ Peter Rosenberg. ” ‘ Hip Hop Squares ‘ is a great representation of MTV2’s new brand filter to deliver smart, funny and relevant content that speaks directly to male Millennials, or ‘Malennials,’ as we call them,” said Paul Ricci, head of programming for MTV2. “The show will refresh an iconic format and create a fun, dynamic series that’s unpredictable, heavy on personality and much more ‘party’ than ‘game show.’ ” If the new incarnation of “Squares” stays true to the original, two contestants (one representing “X,” and the other representing “O”) will compete for prizes in a trivia-styled game where the show’s stars are situated on a giant tic-tac-toe board. The contestants strategically select which square they wish to capture and ask the star seated there a trivia question. After the question is answered, the contestant can choose whether to agree or disagree. If the contestant is right, they capture the square; if he or she is wrong, their opponent wins the square. The first contestant to line up three squares in a row wins the game. “They cross the spectrum from musicians and celebrities to athletes and casual fans of hip-hop,” Paul Ricci, MTV2′s programming chief told Entertainment Weekly . “The show will refresh an iconic format and create a fun, dynamic series that’s unpredictable, heavy on personality and much more ‘party’ than ‘game show’.” Sounds like a ball. Tune into the premiere of “Hip Hop Squares” at 11 p.m. ET/PT on Tuesday, May 22, on MTV2!
The fourth quarter of the Clippers-Suns game Wednesday became a dunking clinic for Blake Griffin. The Clippers All-Star forward threw down a monstrous jam off a pick and roll pass from Chris Paul and just buried Channing Frye late in the game. It wasn’t as powerful as Blake’s dunk on Kendrick Perkins, but it was Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : Larry Brown Sports Discovery Date : 29/03/2012 06:55 Number of articles : 2
It’s the biggest event in Kentucky since Colonel Sanders concocted a special recipe for fried chicken: Saturday night, the University of Kentucky basketball team will battle the University of Louisville in the NCAA Tournament Final Four. The monogamy adverse ex-Kentucky coach, Rick Pitino, leads his Cardinals against the favored Wildcats of John Calipari and his NBA factory of a starting lineup with a berth in the national championship game on the line. Just how hot is this ticket? A Kentucky fan has placed an ad on Craig’s List, asking for seats at the game in exchange for… his wife! But only as collateral. See below: As you can see, it’s not a bad deal: learn a few languages while watching the game on your big screen TV? Certainly worth considering at least …
Eto’o is one of the best strikers to ever play the game. A couple of years back, he took a lucrative deal in Russia and settled on the 23.3 million per year deal. He took the money instead of the fame and lime light. Smart man: Today, I saw Cameroonian football player Samuel Eto’o driving his Bugatti Veyron in Paris. What a lovely sight! Not so long ago, football player Samuel Eto’o (used to play with Barcelona, Inter Milan) signed at Anzhi Makhachkala, a Russian football club. He’s one of the best African football players of all time. For his services, the Russian club have to pay 23.3 million euros per year.
More than two years after a huge sex scandal derailed his aura of invincibility and roiled his personal life, Tiger Woods is back to doing what he does best. Winning. Woods looked dominant as ever in his Sunday red shirt at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, notching his first PGA Tour victory since 2009. The 36-year-old closed with a 2-under 70 and won by five shots over Graeme McDowell. The tour win was Tiger’s first in 923 days, if you can believe it. Tiger Woods Wins Arnold Palmer Invitational “I think he really just kind of nailed home his comeback,” McDowell said. “Great to have a front-row seat watching maybe the greatest of all time.” Woods showed flashes of his old self in recent months, even winning the Chevron World Challenge (an unofficial event). But it all came together this week. Walking off the green, Tiger waved his cap to the crowd. “It’s not like winning a major championship or anything,” he said. “But it certainly feels really good.” His next appearance will be in a major championship, the Masters, where he played well the past two years even while demonstratively off his game. The rest of the field is officially on notice April 5.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta gave us a homecoming, a coronation, and an almost engagement but it still wasn’t enough to put South Africa behind them. Don’t miss the details as we dish it all in THG’s +/- recap! Daddy’s home! Or at least that’s what Kim and the girls call out as Kroy finally comes back from training camp and Plus 15 because damn, it is sweet. They really have missed him. Of course don’t we all feel sorry for Kim. She had to survive a month on her own. Well, her and her nanny, her cleaning staff, her stylist, the interior designer, her assistant, and, the newest of all, her personal chef. Minus 8 . No wonder she has the time to whine. Wait, did I say assistant? Not any more. Sweetie is gone! Plus 10 because I never thought Kim would actually step up and fire her. Sweetie’s a fool. Where else will she find a job where she spends half of her time lounging by the pool? But she got lazy and once she started cursing at the kids it was time to go. We barely saw Kandi or NeNe this hour. They spent a little time with their kids but it’s barely worth mentioning. And we saw nothing of Marlo so Plus 12 for that alone. Sheree and soon to be son-in-law Damon head out to shop for rings. Or maybe not. Well, they do shop for rings but Damon won’t give his price range. I’m sure it’s embarrassing when he’s going to school, working part time and Sheree’s showing him $40,000 rings but he’s got to man up sometime and say what he can afford. Minus 8 . I think Sheree scared the hell out of him. First he says he’ll need to get hammered to get through the engagement and then he decides there isn’t going to be one.
On this week’s Celebrity Apprentice, tensions ran high on the women’s team after the dramatic firing of Tia Carrere for her failings on the previous task. So could the reeling ladies pick up their game, pull it together to get back to their winning ways? And who did Donald Trump end up firing at the end? No, and Patricia Velasquez. Sunday’s task was throwing a party for Crystal Light’s new mock-tinis, and though the men’s team members admittedly don’t like to party, they got the job done here. The two teams were judged on creativity, brand messaging and the overall party atmosphere, and Clay Aiken, the farthest thing from a clubber, led them to the win. On the losing side, Aubrey O’Day decided to bring Patricia Velasquez and Dayana Mendoza back into the boardroom with her. Then Aubrey broke out the tears. Clearly it worked, as Donald Trump decided to donate $10,000 to her charity AND save her from elimination. Patricia got fired due to the errors on the signage. Ouch. Was it the right decision? Are you sorry to see Velasquez go?
