Odd Future head reveals on ‘RapFix Live’ that MellowHype’s ’50’ is on the production schedule. As Wolf Haley, the Odd Future head has already put out a number of memorable vids, including his critically acclaimed “Yonkers,” which helped him win a VMA in 2011. Most recently, Wolf directed and dropped two videos off OFWGKTA’s new album, The OF Tape, Vol. 2 — “Rella” and “NY (Ned Flander)” — and he’s now debating which track he should shoot next. “I kinda wanna do ‘Analog 2′ for sure, but the MellowHype ’50’ song, I have an idea for that that would be awesome,” Tyler said when he and the rest of the OF crew appeared on Wednesday’s “RapFix Live.” “That song, just g–damn, that song’s crazy.” “Analog 2” is a Frank Ocean- and Syd the Kid-assisted sequel to the original track which appeared on Tyler’s Goblin album last year — well, kind of. “I didn’t go in to make a sequel for a song, I just went in to make a song and I didn’t have a name for it and just called it that,” Tyler said. “That wasn’t intentional to be part two, I just called it that because I couldn’t come up with another name and I was lazy.” There are some distinct similarities between the two songs, however. On “Analog 2,” Frank Ocean lovingly sings, “Could you can meet by the lake,” echoing the words that Tyler utters on the hook of the original “Analog.” “It wasn’t that I was gonna make I part two to this, nah, it was just not being creative,” Tyler insisted. Wolf wouldn’t give up any details on his video treatments, though, saying he had to protect his ideas. “See, I can’t tell you. I don’t tell my business like that son,” he said. “I might say some sh–, then some n—a might steal that idea, put that sh– out and then I’m f—ed.” What should be the next video from Odd Future’s The OF Tape, Vol. 2 ? New York’s DJ Clue and Funkmaster Flex compete over bragging rights to world premiere of Minaj’s latest Roman Reloaded single. With Nicki’s April 3 release date for Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded inching closer, disc jocks are clamoring for exclusives from the YMCMB star, and Power 105’s DJ Clue and his rival, Hot 97 DJ Funk Master Flex, tussled over bragging rights to the Queens MC’s latest track. It all started Tuesday morning when Nicki retweeted a DJ Drama message urging fans to tune into DJ Clue’s show later that evening to hear the world premiere of Minaj and 2 Chainz’s Roman Reloaded collaboration, “Beez in the Trap.” But Clue didn’t get a chance to drop the exclusive as it hit the Internet hours before his show went on air. Flex then took credit for playing spoiler by hacking into DJ Clue’s email and lifting the track. Clue quickly hit Twitter to refute Flex’s account, ending his note with the hashtag #CompulsiveLiar.” Whatever the order of events, Nicki’s “Beez in the Trap” single clearly came out on top. The ’80s-inspired track is a departure from “Right by My Side,” the R&B duet that Minaj and Chris Brown released earlier on Tuesday. Instead, “Beez” finds the Harajuku Barbie once again taking aim at unnamed rap chicks. “Bitches ain’t sh– and they ain’t sayin’ nothin’,” she boasts on over a sparse drum track. Underground favorite 2 Chainz doesn’t compromise a thing spitting alongside the multiplatinum rapper. He drops a charismatic 16-bar verse where he goes on about his Lexus LS 450, True Religion jeans and his pimp ways. With the newly released Roman Reloaded tracks, Nicki seems to be striking a balance between melodic pop tracks (“Starships,” “Right By My Side”) and the rap fare that she came into the game with (“Stupid Hoe,” “Roman Reloaded”). “April 3 is gonna be a doozy. It’s gonna be crazy,” Nicki promised when MTV News caught up with her at the NBA All-Star Game in February. “It’s gonna be important for just hip-hop culture and pop culture. As we count down to the premiere of her ‘Part of Me’ video, MTV News picks our favorite Katy Perry clips to date. By Vaughn Trudeau Schoonmaker Katy Perry Photo: EMI We’re just a couple days away from “MTV First: Katy Perry,” when the pop star will premiere the music video for her #1 hit, “Part of Me” on MTV. As her seventh #1 single, “Part of Me” has a long line of awesome videos to live up to. And as we count down the hours to the video premiere at 7:23 p.m. on Wednesday, it seems like an opportune time to look back at our five favorite Katy Perry videos so far. #5: “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F)” This Marc Klesfeld-directed, 8-minute mini-movie opened with Kathy Beth Terry waking up the morning after throwing quite the rager, wearing absurd head gear and dreadful overalls. While this was not Katy’s first foray into the comedic music video genre by any means, this was the first time that she pulled all hands on deck to maximize the laughs with meaningful cameos from a glassy-eyed Darren Criss, Kevin McHale as a love interest, the mentoring of Friday expert Rebecca Black, Corey Feldman, Hanson, Debbie Gibson and, of course, Kenny G. Complete with dream sequences, beautiful fluorescent leggings a la 1985, a rooster and end credits that clearly save the best for last, “T.G.I.F.” is hands-down Katy’s most fun video to date. #4: “I Kissed a Girl” Rewatching the video for her first #1 hit, we see a personality far more timid and sex kitten-ish than the Katy Perry we know now. But we still recognize strong visual themes that are scattered throughout her more recent videos, live performances and magazine spreads. Director Kinga Burza brought us bizarre yet compelling imagery that seems to have set the tone for all videos to follow. The pink-and-red color scheme creates a burlesque backdrop around Katy’s former 1940s-pin-up-girl look that she hit the big pop scene with in 2008. We get to see a cat (not Kitty Purry technically, but perhaps a nod?), a pretty cake (confection!), and a pillow fight with a group of scantily clad women (including a pre-famous Ke$ha). The video ends with her waking up to realize the whole video was a dream, and she happens to be sharing a bed with a man who looks suspiciously similar to her then-boyfriend, Travie McCoy. #3: “California Gurls” This now-iconic video set the Candyland theme Perry took on the road with her for the sold-out California Dreams World Tour . As Snoop Dogg plays a naughty game of “Candyfornia,” the game piece, Ms. Perry, is faced with obstacles in the Mathew Cullen-directed adventure, including an army of pissed-off Gummy Bears and sinister candy snake vines. The obstacles are no match for her whipped cream-shooting bikini top and her happy-go-lucky demeanor she maintains while lying nude on some of the prettiest cotton candy clouds ever spotted. Her lavender, blue and black wigs foreshadowed Perry’s constantly-changing hair styles we see today. The visual effects in the video, surprisingly intricate for such a silly and sweet concept, transform Katy’s homeland California with all of its picturesque landscapes into a tantalizing Willy Wonka land where everything is edible, including the Hollywood sign. The video also marked Katy’s first noteworthy choreographed dancing, which was a new territory not explored from her One of the Boys era of videos. #2: “Firework” Katy Perry looks like a princess in this Budapest-set, Dave Meyers-directed tearjerker (happy tears!) that led the way for anti-bullying anthems even before Pink’s “F—in’ Perfect” and Lady Gaga’s Born This Way . Featuring a child cancer patient, a boy whose parents are fighting, a girl struggling with her weight and a teenage boy with a same-sex love interest, Katy Perry’s message of “igniting the light” is loud and clear as fireworks burst from everyone’s chest and purple streaks in one’s hair have never looked so good. #1: “The One That Got Away” Marking her second collaboration with director Floria Sigismondi following “E.T.,” “The One That Got Away” takes the top prize because of its clever jumps through time, a convincing old-lady makeover, Diego Luna’s spicy cameo, and Perry managing to look more beautiful than ever amid a fascinating emotional breakdown. Set against the backdrop of California panoramas, this music video neatly ties together the imagery she introduced us to in her equally gorgeous video for “Teenage Dream,” while letting the story of love and loss run wild, giving Katy the chance to show us the extent of her talent, as she showed her high potential for dramatic acting. Can Katy Perry top this list with “Part of Me”? Find out when during “MTV First: Katy Perry,” when the pop star will debut the video at 7:23 p.m. ET on MTV, followed by an 30-minute interview with MTV News’ James Montgomery on MTV.com. Miami rapper brings down the FADER FORT with his biggest hits and new Rich Forever mixtape singles. By Nadeska Alexis Rick Ross Photo: Roger Kisby/ Getty Images Considering the star power that had already passed through Austin, Texas beginning with Jay-Z’s Monday night performance , it was only fitting that Rick Ross would make a surprise appearance at SXSW to wrap up the week’s festivities. The FADER FORT was packed to the brim all week, hosting acts like Kendrick Lamar, The-Dream and 2 Chainz, but the “TBD” spot for their closing set on Saturday night was the subject of much speculation. Jay-Z, Kanye West , Lil Wayne , 50 Cent and Eminem had all shown up earlier in the week, so it was reasonable to assume that hip-hop’s reigning titan would also get in on the action. Memphis Tennessee rapper, Gangsta Boo, opened up Fader’s last set of the festival performing old hits, new singles and her verse on the Eminem-featured Yelawolf single “Throw It Up” before passing the mic off to Maybach Music Group rapper Stalley. The Ohio native dipped into his mixtape Lincoln Way Nights (Intelligent Trunk Music then performed the Chad Hugo-produced single “Everything New,” from his upcoming project Savage Journey to the American Dream before exiting. Stalley had only left the stage for a few minutes when Ross showed up, launching right into bangers like “I’m Not A Star,” after being introduced to the crowd as ” the Hottest MC in the Game. ” At this point, the Miami rapper has no shortage of hits and the crowd received every new track, including “Hustlin'” and his verse on “I’m On One,” with enthusiasm. Solange Knowles hung in the VIP area dancing and singing-a-long to songs like “Aston Martin Music,” which Ross so kindly dedicated to all of the women in the house. Ross summoned Stalley back to the stage to perform his Rich Forever cut “Party Heart,” but perhaps the most triumphant moment of the set came during the introduction to the mixtape’s title track. “My success was not overnight,” he told the crowd. “MMG started as a dream, MMG started in a basement. It took me over a decade to get where I’m standing now.” For music lovers in the crowd who weren’t Ross aficionados, the Bawse did his best to translate the overarching message in his music. “I want ya’ll to know that dreams come true,” he told the crowd before closing set. “Every boss in the game started as a m—–f—–‘ worker, so build it from the ground up, do it self made, and be rich forever.” Related Videos South by Southwest 2012 Related Photos SXSW 2012
