Here’s a little positivity for your evening! Two points away from defeat, Serena shook off the funk and upped her game!! Finally tested at the U.S. Open, Serena Williams turned things around just in time. …Williams came back to win the last four games and beat No. 1-ranked Victoria Azarenka 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 on Sunday night for her fourth championship at Flushing Meadows and 15th Grand Slam title overall. Williams improved to 26-1 since a first-round exit at the French Open in late May, winning Wimbledon and the London Olympics. It was the first three-set women’s final in New York since 1995, and Williams came through with a late charge. She is the first woman to win Wimbledon and the U.S. Open in the same season since she did it a decade ago. Robert Zemeckis’ Flight starring Denzel Washington will screen as the Centerpiece of the Austin Film Festival & Conference . The 2012 event, taking place October 18 – 25 revealed some details of its upcoming event Tuesday including 10 films that will join this year’s lineup. AFF annually hosts over 180 film screenings and events, while the Conference welcomes over 100 speakers in its panels and roundtables. Among the films screened during the festival are numerous world and US premieres in a wide range of genres, from comedy to documentary, horror to drama. Also on tap for this year, X-Files creator Chris Carter will receive the event’s Outstanding Television Writer Award at AFF’s annual Awards Luncheon on Saturday, October 22nd. Carter will join Paul Feig and Brian Helgeland as part of AFF’s new “Guest Programmer” section of the festival, giving “highly regarded filmmakers” the chance to screen and discuss films they found influential. Carter will also participate in – fittingly – “A Conversation with Chris Carter,” where he will share stories from his long career in television and film. Carter will also present special retrospective screenings of The X-Files and Millennium episodes. There are also plans to screen an X-Files marathon at the Alamo Drafthouse. AFF will release the rest of its lineup in September. Hunger Games trilogy outsells Potter series Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games trilogy is now Amazon’s top-selling book series. In just four years, the author’s fan-generating output has outsold J.K. Rowlings’ seven-book Harry Potter series, which was published over a more than 10-year span. The online retailer announced that the milestone takes into account sales of both e-books and print copies. Deadline reports. New New York Times CEO making much less than predecessor Mark Thompson, the newly minted CEO of The New York Times Company will make an annual salary of $1 million, plus a $3 million signing bonus. In contrast, the company’s previous chief executive Janet Robinson, who left in December, made $11.3 million last year alone. Deadline reports. Bigfoot Gets Its Own County. Grindstone Entertainment has acquired North American rights to the found-footage thriller “Bigfoot County,” and is exploring releasing the film late this year. The $30,000 picture is described as Deliverance meets Bigfoot with a dash of The Blair Witch Project . The movie is built around footage supposedly taken by filmmakers who disappeared in Northern California’s Siskiyou County while tracking the fabled Sasquatch. Variety reports. Game over for IGN head Roy Bahat, the president of News Corp’s gaming property IGN Entertainment announced in an email to employees on Friday that he is stepping down from his position but will remain on the company’s board. Bahat announced his departure after News Corp.’s attempts to bring in an outside investor to spin off the division — which it acquired for $680 million in 2005 — did not bear fruit. What’s steeplechase exactly? We’re not sure. (Wikipedia says it’s some sort of obstacle race–whatever.) With all that women’s water polo and beach volleyball to watch, we missed that one during the London Olympics. Regardless, we applaud Columbian steeplechase racer Angela Figueroa , who made up for her lackluster performance at the 2012 Games by raising some steeples of her own in a nude photo shoot for SoHo Magazine .
