Lana Del Rey Redeems Herself On NYC Stage

Out in support of her debut album Born to Die, singer made fans forget her infamous ‘SNL’ performance from earlier this year. By Vaughn Trudeau Schoonmaker Lana Del Rey [file] Photo: Chuck Grant/ Getty Images As someone who was disappointed by Lana Del Rey ‘s infamous “Saturday Night Live” performance yet thoroughly enjoyed every song on her debut alternative pop album, Born to Die, I am so excited to confirm, loud and proud, that Lana Del Rey can sing! “How f—in’ cool are you?” Lana smiled radiantly at her New York fans after nailing her opening number, “Blue Jeans.” It’s the same song that did not translate so well on the “SNL” stage that cold winter night. It was Lana who was “f—in’ cool” as the screaming fans nearly drowned out her entire first of three sold-out shows at New York City’s Irving Plaza Thursday night. She quickly followed with her brand-new, unreleased track “Body Electric,” which melded a sad melody with a sensual undercurrent, rightfully declaring to entranced New Yorkers, “I’m on fire, baby, I’m on fire.” It was fantastic and sure to be a fan favorite. The songstress took the stage with a coy smile before she stuck her tongue out and began her short yet powerful 10-song set. Amid pitch-perfect performances of her hits including “Born to Die” and “Video Games,” Lana finally seemed to be at home onstage. “Oh, this old thing?” she whispered bashfully into her microphone after a stellar performance of “Carmen,” transporting the audience back to an age when people came to shows hear a voice rather than see a spectacle

Miley Cyrus’ Engagement Ring: All The Details!

Liam Hemsworth wanted a ring that was ‘beautiful and romantic,’ celebrity jeweler Neil Lane tells People. By Christina Garibaldi Miley Cyrus’ engagement ring Photo: Neil Lane Miley Cyrus certainly has a lot to celebrate. On Wednesday (June 6), the former “Hannah Montana” star announced that she will be walking down the aisle with her boyfriend of three years, Liam Hemsworth . The two met on the set of their 2009 flick “The Last Song” and have been dating on-and-off ever since. Earlier this year, the couple denied engagement rumors after Cyrus was spotted with what looked to be an engagement ring. But now, they are ready to make it official. Before Miley and Liam walk down the aisle, let’s take a walk down memory lane and relive their three-year relationship. After telling People magazine that she “is so happy to be engaged,” Cyrus took to Twitter to thank her fans for their overwhelming outpouring of well-wishes. “thank you for all the love today 🙂 I’m happy to share this news with you all,” Cyrus wrote. “I feel like all my dreams are coming true. ❤ have a great day” Now adorning Cyrus’ left hand is a stunning 3.5-carat sparkler, which Hemsworth had a hand in creating. The “Hunger Games” star teamed up with celebrity jeweler Neil Lane, who told People that Hemsworth wanted “something really beautiful and romantic” for his soon-to-be bride. The ring, which has a vintage feel, was handcrafted in 18-karat gold and is garnished with diamond floral patterns. Yet, it’s the antique center stone that truly makes this a unique and beautiful engagement ring. “It was hand-cut around 1880 or 1890 and it’s unique and in its original form,” Lane said. “At that time no two diamonds were alike, as they were all hand-cut, so it’s fascinating to look at because it hasn’t been re-cut to look contemporary over the years. I find that really romantic.” And, according to Lane, so did Hemsworth: “It’s everything he was looking for.” Hemsworth wasted no time in giving Cyrus the ring, which was completed last week, just in time for him to propose to Cyrus on May 31. Send your well-wishes to Miley and Liam in the comments below! Related Photos A Look Back: Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth

Miley Cyrus Engaged To Liam Hemsworth

‘I’m so happy to be engaged and looking forward to a life of happiness with Liam,’ Cyrus says. By Gil Kaufman Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus Photo: Getty Images Sometimes on-set romances blossom into the real thing. That’s clearly the case with Miley Cyrus and “Hunger Games”
star Liam Hemsworth
, who announced on Wednesday (June 6) that they are engaged. “I’m so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam,” Cyrus, 19, told People magazine. The couple have been dating for three years since meeting on the set of “The Last Song” in 2009. Australian actor Hemsworth, 22, Cyrus’ co-star in that film, proposed to the pop country star on May 31 with a 3.5-carat diamond ring. Earlier this year the couple denied that they were planning a wedding
after Cyrus was spotted with what some thought was an engagement ring. Cyrus began dating Hemsworth shortly after ending a nine-month relationship with model Justin Gaston. It was been an up-and-down ride ever since, with a break-up
in August 2010, a reconciliation and then another split later that year and a second reunion in April 2011. In an interview with Details magazine earlier this year, Hemsworth said he tried to be professional on the set of “Last Song,” but could not help falling in love with his co-star. “What happened happened, and we’ve been together ever since,” he said. “She makes me really happy. When you start, you want to be professional, but when you’re filming those scenes with someone and pretending to love them, you’re not human if you don’t feel something.” life is beautiful — Miley Ray Cyrus (@MileyCyrus) June 6, 2012 Early Wednesday morning Cyrus tweeted the phrase , “life is beautiful,” but has not made any further comments on the engagement. The couple will be busy in the lead up to their not-yet-scheduled nuptials, with Cyrus working on her fourth studio album and Hemsworth filming the movie “Empire State” in New Orleans. After that, he’s off to co-star in the thriller “Paranoia” with Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman and then work will begin on the second “Hunger Games” installment. Russell Brand At Movie Awards: His Nine Funniest Jokes

From Twilight to Teen Mom, no pop-culture stone was left unturned. By Terri Schwartz Russell Brand hosts the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Russell Brand might have to host every MTV awards show from here on out! The 2012 MTV Movie Awards were immediately off to a good start thanks to Brand’s , and he kept the jokes rolling throughout the rest of the two-hour-long show. In honor of Brand’s sharp witticisms, we’ve put together a list of his nine best jokes that kept us laughing long after he finished telling them. Twilight! Hunger Games! When Brand first walked out onto the Movie Awards stage and started yelling, ” Twilight! Hunger Games!” we figured he was off Andy Samberg. Instead, as he said later in the monologue, he was using them because “these words generate goodwill.” They certainly did, as he used them repeatedly over the course of the night. It’s the End of the World as We Know It “Tonight is an important ceremony because according to the Mayans, the world will end in December this year,” Brand pointed out. “If Earth hurtles into the sun and humanity is destroyed, we will all say as one: We had the MTV Movie Awards 2012 and it was worth it! ” Yes we can, and yes we will. Justin Bieber Is the Man The first pop-culturally relevant moment Brand brought up in his opening monologue was Justin Bieber’s recent attack on a member of the paparazzi. “Justin Bieber beat up a paparazzi. Well done, Justin!” he said. Brand went on to say that he didn’t think he’d ever be able to hit Biebs if he fought him because the 18-year-old is “so pretty” that “even if he was attacking me, I think I would do a little orgasm.” Well, to each his own. Kann-Yay and Kim Brand was quick to thank Kim Kardashian for making his short-lived marriage to Katy Perry not seem so bad in the scheme of things, but he then went on to beg the “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star and her new boyfriend Kanye West — whose first name he repeatedly mispronounced ” Kann -Yay” — to make a sex tape. “I think of Kim Kardashian as the Stanley Kubrick of sex tapes,” Brand said. “They’re always brilliant, but he only does one a decade.” Brand’s Special “Grease” Tribute Nothing was off limits during the Movie Awards, not even John Travolta’s recent sex scandal . After saying that “Rock of Ages” is the best movie since “Grease,” Brand said he honored that film by giving Travolta a massage. “He needed it, man. He was so stiff, I’m telling ya!” Brand said. Michael Fassbender and His Penis He claimed he never noticed Fassbender’s “huge, engorged talent as I was staring at his massive co–.” That must have been why he decided the “Prometheus” star was going to be the next celebrity he married following hosting an MTV awards show. Sorry, Katy! Taking Advantage of Charlie Sheen’s Old Addictions Charlie Sheen was a great sport during Brand’s opening monologue, especially since the Brit repeatedly took jabs at the “Anger Management” star’s recent problems. “I’ve taped a bottle of Hennessy and a gram of coke under your chair. In case I start going crazy, just nick it and do a couple of lines. Release the tiger blood hero!” Brand said to resounding laughter. Our New Host: Julianne Hough’s Nephew One of the best parts of the night came when a behind-the-scenes shot showed Brand coaching Julianne Hough’s nephew and date for the night to replace him as host. According to Brand, all you need to do to be a great Movie Awards host is talk about farts a lot . And the cutest part is that it was all improvised “! “Teen Mom” Vs. “Teen Wolf” As you probably realized once the 2012 MTV Movie Awards wrapped, the show wasn’t followed by “Teen Mom,” but rather by the season-two premiere of “Teen Wolf.” Whoops! We can’t tell if his gibes at “Teen Mom” instead of “Wolf” were intentional or a mistake, but we still can’t get over his joke, “Do stay tuned after the show for the new season of Teen Mom, where pregnant women are laughed at for money!” Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. 2012 MTV Movie Awards Glory Shared By ‘Hunger Games,’ ‘Twilight’

Plus: Johnny Depp and Emma Stone get career awards, and ‘Dark Knight Rises’ footage makes its debut. By Gil Kaufman Taylor Lautner accepts for “Breaking Dawn” at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — When you promise to fuel your third hosting go-round of the MTV Movie Awards with flatulence , where is there, really, to climb from there? Luckily, veteran MC Russell Brand had plenty of rope, taking the stage for the 2012 edition of the awards dressed like a punk-rock preacher and skewering friends and fellow celebrities on a night when three of the most iconic casts of the generation duked it out for supremacy. There were some wins for the new kids on the block from “The Hunger Games” and the O.G. “Harry Potter” cast, but the night belonged to the cool kids from “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” who snagged the Best Movie prize. “Thank you so much you guys,” said a humble Kristen Stewart, surrounded by much of her cast, before telling all those who think she’s elated to be finally stepping away from the iconic role of Bella Swan to just “shut up.” The serious business couldn’t get under way, though, until Brand had his way. Dinged in the past for piling on the Jonas Brothers, the tart-tongued English comedian turned the beat around and thanked the newest member of the paparazzi-scuffle fraternity to the fold: “Well done, Justin!” he said of young Bieber, before imagining what jail might be like for the boy wonder. Brand hit the hard stuff early, joking that if you think after recent events , “It’s hypocritical of me to joke about a celebrity beating up a paparazzi, wait till you hear what I have to say about short-lived celebrity marriages .” Ouch. And then it was time to get to business. It takes some serious screen mojo to beat out Ryan Gosling, Daniel Radcliffe and Channing Tatum, but “Hunger Games” star Josh Hutcherson battled his way into a win in the Best Male Performance category for the night’s first prize. “Oh my God,” he exclaimed when he got his hands on the hardware. “I’ve wanted to hold a Golden Popcorn since I was, like, 4 years old,” he said. It looked like it was going to be a “Hunger Games” night, and who better than “Twilight” star Stewart to announce a win for Katniss herself, Jennifer Lawrence, in the Best Female Performance category? “I want to thank Suzanne Collins for creating such an iconic, powerful character in Katniss Everdeen. It’s been an absolute honor to portray her,” an absent Lawrence said. “Horrible Bosses” star Jennifer Aniston
scooped up the Best Onscreen Dirtbag honor for a part of her acting portfolio she said she’s been waiting forever to unleash. The ladies were in the house early, as Shailene Woodley snagged Breakthrough Performance for her totally believable turn as a sullen, frustrated teen in “The Descendants.” No actor of this generation has brought more twisted, unforgettable characters to life than Johnny Depp. From Captain Jack Sparrow, to Ed Wood, Edward Scissorhands, Hunter S. Thompson and Willy Wonka, Johnny Depp is the reason the MTV Generation Award exists: to honor actors whose fearlessness is matched only by their coolness. He proved it by sitting in on rhythm guitar with the Black Keys for a rumble through “Gold on the Ceiling” and then jokingly comparing the Golden Popcorn honor to a “get out of the business” trophy. “All right, you’ve done too much and clearly based on the clips there’s obviously something wrong with me,” he said, guitar still dangling around his neck. Another career kudos went to Emma Stone, recipient of the first Trailblazer Award, for her wide comedic and dramatic range in everything from “Super Bad” to “Easy A,” “Crazy, Stupid, Love” and “The Help.” Admittedly weepy and armed with the dictionary definition of “trailblazer,” Stone said, “the only thing I can hope that something like this award inspires is originality.” Harry Potter, the “21 Jump Street” kid gang, the brutal “Warrior” beat down and the high-flying “Mission Impossible — Ghost Protocol,” all duked it out for Best Fight, but it was Lawrence, Huthcherson and their “Hunger Games” co-star, Alexander Ludwig, who were left standing when the popcorn was handed out. In a rare break with historic protocol, Best Kiss went to, so weird, an opposite -sex couple. You can’t knock the Romeo and Juliet of dysfunctional vampire love, Stewart and Robert Pattinson
, though. RPattz was elsewhere, so Kristen had to fly solo, calling out for her new “Snow White” beau, huntsman Chris Helmsworth, to kindly do the honors. Or at the very least Charlize Theron, Taylor Lautner, or anyone, really. “This really means a lot and thank you guys very much for giving us best kiss again,” she said. You can eat all the pie you want, battle as many mythical creatures as CGI artists can cook up, infiltrate any high school in the country or battle to the death, but if anyone thought they were going to hunt down the ensemble of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” in the Best Cast category, well, chill with the butter beer, will ya? Emma Watson accepted the award for her castmates, giving them all shout-outs, with special ones reserved for her two main men, Radcliffe and Rupert Grint. There’s a first time for everything and Elizabeth Banks broke the seal on the Best On-Screen Transformation category, for her role as brightly-hued, morally suspect Capitol “Hunger Games” chaperone Effie Trinket. The night also featured the enshrining of “Project X” into the instant cult classic movie category, honoring the party-out-of-control flick released earlier this year for ticking off all the degenerate prerequisites to join the likes “Animal House,” “The Hangover,” “Revenge of the Nerds,” “American Pie” and “Get Him to the Greek” in midnight movie heaven. The festivities opened with a majestic sugar pop sing-along with fun. to their megahit “We Are Young,” which had stars from Elizabeth Banks and Jennifer Aniston to Vanilla Ice and Channing Tatum bopping along. Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. See what just happened at the 21st annual MTV Movie Awards ! Josh Hutcherson Wins Best Male Performance Movie Award

‘Hunger Games’ star beats out Daniel Radcliffe, Channing Tatum, Ryan Gosling and Joseph Gordon-Levitt for the coveted Golden Popcorn. By Ryan J. Downey Josh Hutcherson wins at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — “The Hunger Games” stormed the box office to the tune of nearly $400 million, and at Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards , the man fans know and love as Peeta Mellark clutched a different type of riches in his hand: a Golden Popcorn. Thanks to the massive number of fans who voted for him, Josh Hutcherson took home the award for Best Male Performance at the 21st annual awards show. “Oh, my god. I’ve wanted to hold a Golden Popcorn since I was like 4 years old. This is incredible,” he said from the stage, as he accepted the award from Emma Watson, Logan Lerman and Ezra Miller. “It’s insane too, because every single one of those actors I admire and I want to be, so to even be up here is blowing my mind right now.” Hutcherson thanked “Hunger Games” author Suzanne Collins, director Gary Oldman, his producers like Nina Jacobson and Jon Kilik, Lionsgate and, of course, the fans. “You guys are the best fans in the world,” he gushed. “You’re crazy and passionate and you make our job amazing.” The 19-year-old Kentucky-born actor joined an esteemed list of A-listers, guy’s guys and heartthrobs who have taken home the esteemed award, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Denzel Washington, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Leonardo DiCaprio. The former child star beat out a formidable array of challengers who all more than earned their places in the category: , Channing Tatum , Ryan Gosling and Joseph Gordon-Levitt . Radcliffe was nominated for his final performance as the world’s most beloved boy wizard in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.” Tatum cruised into the category for his role opposite Rachel McAdams in the tear-jerking romantic drama “The Vow,” which also earned him a nomination for Best Kiss. Gosling, who won the Best Kiss category once upon a time (with McAdams) thanks to “The Notebook,” was nominated for the darkly pensive and critically acclaimed drama “Drive.” Gordon-Levitt, who we’ll be seeing again in “The Dark Knight Rises” this summer, gave a nuanced performance in “50/50.” Anticipation for the next entry in the “Hunger Games” series, “Catching Fire,” is already running high. Earlier in the week, “John Carter” star Taylor Kitsch shot down rumors that he’d play dreamy District 4 tribute Finnick Odair, something Robert Pattinson debunked himself, as well. MTV Movie Awards Go Live Tonight! Who Will Win Big?

The Girl on Fire and the Boy Who Lived are destined for Golden Popcorn greatness, while big things are in store for ‘Dark Knight Rises’ and ‘Magic Mike’ fans as well. By Josh Wigler Jennifer Lawrence in “The Hunger Games” Photo: Lionsgate UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Happy MTV Movie Awards day, and may the odds be ever in your favor! You have no shortage of films and stars to root for when tuning into the big show tonight (June 3) at 9 p.m. ET, and that only makes the decisions harder. How can you possibly choose between supporting the Boy Who Lived’s last night at the Movie Awards and Katniss Everdeen’s first time in the arena? Too much pressure! Still, as in every competition, there will be winners and losers at this year’s show, with plenty of cause for triumph and heartbreak. And while we’re still hours away from knowing exactly who those victors are, we’ve got some sneaking suspicions about who will wind up owning the night. Keep reading for our predictions: “The Hunger Games” Before Iron Man and the rest of “The Avengers” sucked all the air out of the box office, 2012’s biggest commercial titan was the Girl on Fire. Tonight at the Movie Awards, Katniss doesn’t have to worry about Earth’s mightiest heroes — only Captain America and Thor are nominated for Best Hero , and it will take a miracle to boost them to the top — and can instead focus on main rivals “Bridesmaids” and “Harry Potter.” Fans have rallied behind “Hunger Games” in a massive way over the past year, and with a leading nine nominations to its name, the odds are most certainly in this movie’s favor for ruling the show tonight. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” This is Harry’s final time to shine at the Movie Awards. As the fourth highest-grossing picture of all time, it’s safe to say that there are more than a few fans hoping for some good old-fashioned “Deathly Hallows” domination. Best Cast should be a lock for “Potter,” if only to acknowledge the phenomenal work of scenery-chewers Alan Rickman and Ralph Fiennes. It’s neck-and-neck between Potter and Katniss for Best Hero, but we’re placing our money on the Boy Wizard. And a Movie of the Year win is not out of the question, either. It has a huge obstacle to overcome in the increasingly hot “Hunger Games,” but as Lord Voldemort learned the hard way, you can never put Potter down for the count. “The Dark Knight Rises” Fans No matter who you’re rooting for at the Movie Awards, it’s the fans who will walk away the winners — Batman fans in particular. Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Gary Oldman will all be on hand to present exclusive “Dark Knight Rises” footage at the show, in case you haven’t heard. Though we’re still in the dark regarding what exactly we’ll see, Movie Awards director Hamish Hamilton has seen the top-secret footage, and he’s “telling you, it’s good.” Expect this footage to be the talk of the town (or at least the Twitterverse) long after the show ends. Shirtless-Men Enthusiasts Another someone with an outside shot at dominating the Movie Awards conversation tonight is Channing Tatum, who finds himself nominated for multiple awards, including Best Kiss and Best Hero. Don’t count on him winning either of those awards — the former is all “Twilight,” and the latter is a battle of the bows and wands — but who needs a Golden Popcorn statuette when you have abs to put Taylor Lautner to shame? There’s growing buzz that Tatum is going to bring some of his “Magic Mike” shirtless magic to Movie Awards viewers tonight, so if you’re a fan of hot men sans clothes, you might be this year’s biggest winner. Russell Brand Finally, hats off to the man who’s going to keep the trains powered by farts tonight: Russell Brand, host of the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. Mark Wahlberg’s threats aside, we’re very confident Brand is going to absolutely tear it up at the show this year, if his past performances as host of the VMAs are any indication. Besides, Brand is allowed to do whatever he wants tonight — group sex , anyone? Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to cast your vote for Best Hero and Best Movie now!
