Andy Samberg Will Miss ‘So Many Things’ About ‘SNL’

‘I’ll definitely miss … being able to do comedy on such a storied show,’ Samberg tells MTV News about his ‘Saturday Night Live’ exit. By Josh Wigler Andy Samberg Photo: MTV News Andy Samberg’s announcement that he’ll no longer be a part of “Saturday Night Live” starting next season surprised precisely no one. The comedian’s possible exit had been rumored for months, with buzz recently reaching a boiling point thanks to the closing lyrics of “Lazy Sunday 2,” his final Digital Short: “On these New York streets I hone my fake rap penmanship/ That’s how it began, and that’s how I’mma finish it.” But even though Samberg is walking away after a seven-season run, don’t think the comedian arrived at the decision easily. MTV News spoke with Samberg and his co-star (and fellow “SNL” alum) Adam Sandler as they promoted “That’s My Boy,” and the Lonely Island artist revealed that there’s a lot he’ll miss about working on the show, his colleagues most of all. “The people and the friends, definitely,” Samberg told MTV News ahead of the Movie Awards on Sunday night. “I’ve been saying it a lot — I’m going to miss all of my friends and the people I work with. I love them all so much, and I’m hoping to stay in touch with them.” That said, Samberg feels very strongly about the choice to depart the New York-based late-night comedy series. “Over seven years, that show is like — and [Sandler] knows — it’s like going to war or being on a sports team,” he said. “It’s just everyone working towards this common goal at full speed. When you lift your head up from that and go out into the world, you kind of realize, you’ll always be nicely shell-shocked in a way that only the people who did it with you can understand. I’ll definitely miss having such an amazing outlet and being able to do comedy on such a storied show that everyone pays attention to, but … ” “But now you can do it on YouTube,” Sandler interrupted. “Right,” Samberg laughed. “Now it’s straight to YouTube.” Sandler, like Samberg, certainly knows what it’s like to walk away from “SNL.” After leaving the show in 1995, he found enormous success through movies like “Billy Madison,” “Happy Gilmore” and many more. With Sandler’s many achievements in mind, we asked the Happy Madison founder what he thought of Samberg’s decision to say so long to Saturday night. “He’s doing it all right,” said the comedian. “This guy cares about being a good person first, and I love that about him. He’s a hard-working fool when he wants to be, and he’s really a smart, talented and great guy. I know he’s going to do everything he wants to do. “I was aggressive back in the day. I was driven and needed to get my movies made and blah blah blah. He’s less nutty about it,” Sandler continued. “He’s a very passionate and smart guy who knows about what should come first, and that’s life. Right? Something like that?” “Yeah,” Samberg enthusiastically replied. “Right!” Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to vote for your favorite flicks now! How Did Jennifer Lawrence Get An Arrow In The Head?

Get an exclusive first look at ‘Hunger Games’ star’s MTV Movie Awards appearance; short film producer Jordan Rubin fills us in! By Kara Warner Photo: MTV That old adage about a picture being worth a thousand words is particularly appropriate for this sneak peek of “Hunger Games” star Jennifer Lawrence’s appearance in a short film set to debut during the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday (June 3). The photo clearly shows Lawrence with an arrow through her head, and given her unimpressed, annoyed expression when the pic was snapped, she doesn’t look too pleased about the situation. But not to worry: The arrow through her head is all for the sake of Movie Awards comedy, for which Lawrence was totally game. MTV News recently caught up with Movie Awards short film producer Jordan Rubin to get the behind-the-scenes scoop about how Lawrence came to be involved. “The idea generated from this year being the year of archery,” Rubin said. “Archery has really come back in a big way, so it seemed like a good thing to do as a jumping-off point for some comedy. “You have ‘The Hunger Games,’ Jeremy Renner [as Hawkeye] in ‘Avengers,’ ‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘Snow White and the Huntsman,’ also ‘Brave’ is coming out,” Rubin added. “It’s good comedy fodder, and Jen totally got it. We were so happy she made time.” According to Rubin, the short film revolves around an archery coach who is not necessarily liked by a lot of people in the industry. It features Joel McHale and a cameo from Lawrence. “[Lawrence] was really funny and gave us a lot of different options and was great at the comedy,” Rubin said. Does ‘Twilight’ Have A Lip-Lock On The Movie Awards?

We’ll see if RPattz and KStew nab their fourth prize over ‘The Vow,’ ‘Potter,’ ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’ and ‘Hunger Games’ on Sunday. By Kara Warner Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” Photo: Summit Entertainment This year’s Best Kiss nominees are as diverse as they are titillating. Whether the smooch’s setting was rain-soaked, in a cave, seven years in the making or post-marriage, the nominees for this consistently popular 2012 MTV Movie Awards category all deserve credit for their wonderfully cinematic tongue tangos. Here’s a look at this year’s very competitive category: Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, “Crazy, Stupid, Love” Much ado has been made over the all-around swoonworthy-ness of Ryan Gosling and the all-around likeability of Emma Stone. Putting them together in a romantic comedy where their first kiss involves an assertive, rain-soaked Emma Stone getting exactly what she wants made for one of the year’s steamiest onscreen kisses. Not to mention Gosling’s adept assist in the scene: He is a Best Kiss winner after all ( for “The Notebook” ) and responsible for one of the best acceptance “speeches” in MTV Movie Awards history. Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” Oh, young love. So angsty and confusing and frustrating and, in the case of “Harry Potter” characters Hermione (Watson) and Ron (Grint), too many years in the making. Though the big moment in the movie was different from how things went down in J.K. Rowling’s beloved novels, you can still hear the collective sighs and squeals over their very long-awaited first lip-lock in the blockbuster franchise’s eighth and final film, “Deathly Hallows, Part 2.” Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson, “The Hunger Games” Known affectionately to “Hunger Games” fans as the “cave scene,” Katniss (Lawrence) and Peeta (Hutcherson) find themselves between a literal rock and a hard place when Katniss must venture out to fetch her teammate and would-be love the medicine that will save his life. Katniss’ winning argument for risking her life is sealed with a kiss. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” “Twilight” fans will never tire of seeing kisses shared between their favorite onscreen couple, Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. And luckily for the fans, the three-time winners know how to get the job done, as demonstrated by their passionate, lengthy and very public display of affection after being announced as man and wife in “Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum, “The Vow” What’s more romantic than a devoted and doting husband? One who is charged with the very difficult task of making his wife fall in love with him all over again after she sustains severe memory loss from a traumatic accident. Such is the sweet and sigh-worthy setup for Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams’ heart-melting second first kiss in the romantic drama “The Vow.” Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to vote for your favorite flicks now! Taylor Kitsch Snuffs ‘Catching Fire’ Finnick Rumors

Actor was rumored to be in the running for ‘Hunger Games’ sequel, along with Garrett Hedlund and Armie Hammer. By Kara Warner Taylor Kitsch Photo: Getty Images And then there were two? The list of three very eligible male actors — Taylor Kitsch, Armie Hammer and Garrett Hedlund — recently speculated to be the top choices to play fan-favorite character Finnick O’Dair in the “Hunger Games” sequel “Catching Fire” has apparently been trimmed to two. Kitsch said the speculation about his possible involvement in the second film in the blockbuster franchise is just that. “Not going to happen,” the “Battleship” and “John Carter” actor wrote in an email to the Los Angeles Times this week. There has been no word from either Hammer’s or Hedlund’s camps regarding the validity of the report, but when MTV News reached out to Lionsgate for confirmation, we received this statement: “Like the first film, Lionsgate won’t be commenting on any of the rumors until we officially announce.” Finnick appears in both “Catching Fire” and the last book in the franchise, “Mockingjay,” and is memorable for his extreme attractiveness, along with the fact that 10 years before he entered the arena in “Catching Fire,” he had won the Hunger Games at age 14 using a Trident. Another actor rumored to be in the running is Robert Pattinson , who quickly put those rumors to bed. “I was kind of curious for a second,” Pattinson told USA Today about the reports. “So I called my agent. My agent was like, ‘No … no one’s going to offer you that part.’ I was like, ‘Thanks for the reassurance.’ ” This hasn’t stopped us from doing our own speculation and fan casting of the role, which provides for a fun distraction until Lionsgate makes the official announcement. There’s still time to cast your vote for “The Hunger Games” to win big at Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards , airing at 9 p.m. ET. The film is nominated for a slew of Golden Popcorn trophies in the categories of Best Cast, Movie of the Year, Best Hero, Best Fight, Best Kiss and more. Barack Obama: The First Gay President!

In the mid-90s, author Toni Morrison famously referred to Bill Clinton as “the first black President” based on his empathy, efforts to foster broad socioeconomic equality and commitment to issues important to African-American community at large. Newsweek plays off this quote in its new cover story on President Barack Obama. Following Obama’s public support of same-sex marriage , he has been dubbed The First Gay President … in a manner of speaking of course: While Obama’s statement was groundbreaking and bold, will his “coming out” on behalf of gay marriage even make a different in November’s election? “If you were going to cast your vote based on a candidate’s position regarding same-sex marriage, you were already going to vote for Obama [or] Romney based on that,” Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank said on ABC’s This Week . “I literally don’t think anybody’s vote was changed one way or the other.” In any case, Obama’s end to “evolving” on gay marriage will continue to generate critical comment, and not all of it positive, even from the left. “His embrace of gay marriage was not a profile in courage,” New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd wrote, taking issue with adulation shown toward the President (such as on the cover above) more than anything. “Even when he does the right thing, by the time he does it and in the way he does it, he drains away excitement and robs himself of the admiration he would otherwise be due … Why doesn’t he just do the exhilarating thing immediately?” “Why does he have to be dragged kicking and screaming to principle?” With Obama’s face pictured looking skyward and a rainbow-colored halo above his head, the controversial cover leads to a story written by openly gay writer Andrew Sullivan, a self-described political conservative. The boundary-pushing May 21 Newsweek issue featuring Obama, available Monday, comes after Time magazine’s breastfeeding cover last week, which featured an attractive 26-year-old mother nursing her toddler son. The cover sparked strong reactions across the world last week and led a Newsweek spokesperson to tell the New York Post that the magazine’s editor Tina Brown had viewed the cover as a challenge. “When Tina saw the Time cover, she laughed and said, ‘Let the games begin,'” the spokesperson told the Post . Game on.
