‘Hammer Dance’ Video A ‘Day In The Life’ Of Slaughterhouse

‘When it’s done, you’ll see how authentic it is,’ Crooked I tells MTV News on the video set. By Nadeska Alexis Slaughterhouse on the set of “Hammer Dance” Photo: MTV News Slaughterhouse passed through Austin, Texas, to perform at the Shady 2.0 Showcase during South by Southwest earlier this month, and while they were in town, the boys — Joe Budden, Royce Da 5’9”, Crooked I and Joell Ortiz — slotted some time to film the video for their latest single, “Hammer Dance.” MTV News caught up with the four rappers on set, where they explained the video’s concept and give an update on their upcoming album, Welcome to: Our House. “I think it’s just a day in the life of Slaughterhouse, a lot of energy,” Crooked I told MTV News. “We’re gonna give fans a chance to shine, and I think when it’s done, you’ll see how authentic it is. When we roll into town, we jell with people, no matter where they are, who they are, what part of the world they’re from. We’re just average dudes trying to do extraordinary things.” “Hammer Dance” is the latest single from the group’s sophomore album, which is expected to debut this summer. Slaughterhouse wouldn’t give a specific release date just yet, but they did reveal that their Shady Records boss, Eminem, is in the final stages of mixing. “[We’re] still working out minor tweaks, [but] it’s way more done than people know,” Royce said. “Marshall is actually mixing right now. He’s actually mixed the entire album, and that wasn’t even the original plan, so we’re super excited about that. He’s just taking songs to another level.” Eminem is known for his hands-off approach with artists, but the Detroit native was very much involved in the creation of Welcome to: Our House, as the group explained. “Real talk: A lot of people don’t give Eminem enough credit for his production and his arrangement and his mixing,” Crooked I said. “What he’s doing to add to the album is phenomenal, and I think he deserves props and a salute for that.” “He’s turning it into a movie,” Royce concluded. “It’s becoming way more visual, when he comes and puts his stamp on it, if you will.” What are you expecting from new Slaughterhouse music? Was Jennifer Lawrence Too ‘Curvy’ To Play Katniss In ‘Hunger Games’?

Fan groups respond to one critic’s suggestion that Lawrence’s ‘womanly figure makes a bad fit’ for Katniss. By Elizabeth Lancaster Jennifer Lawrence in “The Hunger Games” Photo: Lionsgate Fans flooded in droves into movie theaters this weekend to see “The Hunger Games.” In the wake of the highly anticipated release, much of the criticism surrounding the movie has been not about the young stars’ performances, but their appearances. Most recently there has been criticism of Jennifer Lawrence’s weight, with some sighting that as Katniss, a girl who grew up in a famine-stricken district of a dystopian society, she should have been thinner. New York Times film critic Manohla Dargis wrote , “A few years ago Ms. Lawrence might have looked hungry enough to play Katniss, but now, at 21, her seductive, womanly figure makes a bad fit for a dystopian fantasy about a people starved into submission.” The statement is receiving much backlash, considering Lawrence is now a certified movie star that countless young women look up to. Putting aside the negative body-image issues the comment suggests, one wonders whether Dargis is accurate in her assessment of the actress/character disparity? MTV News asked expert “Hunger Games” fans to weigh in. Most had the same message: They loved what Lawrence brought to her character and that the scrutiny is misguided. “Katniss may not have been as thin or small in stature as depicted in the book, but it’s not unfathomable that her hunting prowess would have allowed her to have some meat on her bones,” TheHob.org’s Gabby Vittoria responded. She went on to point out that “Peeta wasn’t tall in the movie; Clove wasn’t big and brawny; Katniss wasn’t smaller than most of the Tributes. These physical changes certainly didn’t take away from the story and messages in the movie. Besides, for me, Jennifer’s acting and the quality of the film makes her weight a non-issue.” Many fans not only disagreed with the film critic but were affronted by these reviews of Lawrence. “I’m offended by this critique on so many levels, and honestly, I was shocked that it was ever an issue and that a professional critic would bring it up in the film’s review,” Sara Gundell from the Hunger Games Examiner fan site stated. This backlash about Lawrence’s weight comes in the wake of the questioning of Rue’s race in the film. The pre-teen is played by Amandla Stenberg, who is African American. In recent days her casting was the subject of racially fueled criticism by a handful of moviegoers who have suffered their own backlash. “Trayon Martin Deserved To Be Shot” Facebook Page This isht is getting way out of hand and these people are totally out of pocket. Some sick and racist f**k thought it was a ‘cute’ idea to start a Facebook page called.. Trayon Martin Deserved To Be Shot . Here’s a little blurb from the page: Trayvon committed felony assault and inflicted serious injury before being justifiably shot. I would have shot this creep BEFORE he inflicted head injuries upon me (assuming brandishing my gun didn’t stop the aggressive actions of Trayvon). Thus far there are only 13 “Likes” on this azzhole’s page and hopefully it stays that way. SMH. R.I.P. and justice for Trayvon Martin . More On Bossip! Celebrity Seeds: T.I. Which ‘Twilight’ Character Would Win Hunger Games?

For ‘Twilight’ Tuesday, we imagine the vampires and wolves in a battle to the death. By Kara Warner Taylor Lautner in “Breaking Dawn” Photo: Summit Like most of our fellow “Twilight” fans, we spend a lot of time thinking about and overanalyzing the mythical world Stephenie Meyer created and the record-breaking film franchise it spawned. And even though we still have too many months to wait to see “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2,” the wait was made slightly less painful this week due to a couple of new trailer teases . Since we’ve had the series on the brain more than usual this week, along with the countless stories about “The Hunger Games” reaching “Twilight”-level numbers, I’ve decided to philosophize my way through this week’s “Twilight” Tuesday with the question: If the Cullens and the wolf pack were featured in a “Hunger Games”-style, fight-to-the-death tournament organized by the Volturi (of course), who would come out a victor? The first thing to address is who would be reaped into the tournament? And how many? If we go with 24, the ranks are difficult to fill out due to a lack of named weres. Nevertheless, here are the contenders (including a few of those who don’t live through the end of the series): Bella Swan, Edward Cullen, Jacob Black, Carlisle Cullen, Esme Cullen, Alice Cullen, Emmett Cullen, Rosalie Hale, Jasper Hale, Renesmee Cullen, Sam Uley, Quil Ateara V, Embry Call, Paul Lahote, Jared Cameron, Leah Clearwater, Seth Clearwater, Collin Littlesea, Brady Fuller, James, Victoria, Laurent, Riley Biers and one of the unnamed wolves from the end of “Breaking Dawn” who show up as part of Sam’s pack. Whew. Now, who will be defeated and how? My colleague Katie Byrne makes the very astute point that the Cullens are total pacifists and will not kill each other, no matter what. I say that Jasper might be the one to crack, since he doesn’t always have total control over his actions, but the rest of the Cullens will probably rein him in and quarantine him or something. Also, as much as it pains me to admit it, the vampires will likely outlast the werewolves (confession: I prefer wolves to vamps), particularly the Cullens with their supernatural abilities. But again, would the Cullens allow the seemingly needless fights-to-the-death to happen? This is a Volturi-created death match after all, so they might make like the end of “Breaking Dawn – Part 2” and save everyone. Except for James, Victoria, Laurent and Riley, of course. Ms. Byrne argues that if the Volturi did somehow succeed in making the tournament end in death and destruction, the Cullens would all join hands, eat a few handfuls of nightlock (assuming that the poisonous berry also works on non-humans), and end the “Games” with a civilized, non-bloody mass suicide. Or the Volturi might recognize the Cullens’ value (just like the Gamemakers did) and let them live — under the constant threat of death and destruction, that is. Who do you think would win the “Twilight” Hunger Games? Share your thoughts in the comments or tweet me @karawarner with your theories! Wanksters: Geraldo Riveria Apologizes For Trayvon Martin Hoodie Comments

Geraldo Riveria Apologizes For Trayvon Martin Hoodie Comments Do you forgive this guy??? Fox News host Geraldo Rivera on Tuesday apologized for saying that the fact that Trayvon Martin was wearing a hoodie had as much to do with his death as George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch captain who shot the teen. “Heard petition demands my apology to Trayvon’s parents,” he said on his Facebook page. “Save effort: I deeply apologize for any hurt I caused — that is not my goal or intent.” Rivera elaborated on his thoughts in an email to Politico.com, offering an apology while also noting that earlier an unnamed “prominent black conservative” had commented on “my ‘very practical and potentially life-saving campaign urging black and Hispanic parents not to let their children go around wearing hoodies.’” Last week on Fox & Friends Rivera stated that “I think the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin’s death as George Zimmerman was.” Rivera later acknowledged that his own son Gabriel was “ashamed” of him for stating that. Rivera insisted he was only trying to protect children. “I remain absolutely convinced of what I said about asking for trouble,” he stated. “There’s trouble enough for minority boys and young men not to provoke mad responses from paranoid jerk offs.” Source More On Bossip! ‘Hunger Games’ Sequel ‘Catching Fire’: Five Burning Questions

We can’t help but look forward to the next film based on Suzanne Collins’ best-sellers. By Kara Warner Liam Hemsworth, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutchenson Photo: WireImage While we’d love to take some more time to bask in the glow of just-released box-office champ “The Hunger Games,” it’s time to move on to the sequel and start pondering and overanalyzing everything about “Catching Fire” . Here are our five burning questions (minor spoilers ahead for those who haven’t yet read the book — hurry up and get to it, people!): When Will Gary Ross Officially Sign On to Direct? By all accounts, this question has already been answered behind closed doors in some fancy studio room somewhere but has not been announced to the general public. As of now, Gary Ross is attached to direct “Catching Fire,” which, in “Hollywood speak,” means he’s still trying to work out the details with his agents and the studio. We’re pretty optimistic that he’ll return, though, because he’s offered up some very specific details about his plans for it. When and Where Will Filming Take Place? Come on, Lionsgate, you’ve already announced the release date for “Catching Fire.” When will you announce the production start date? Time is ticking! Those of us who’ve read the book know there are Games afoot but of a completely different nature. Ross told MTV News that he has some specific ideas about how to shoot in/on a tropical location but wouldn’t expand upon them beyond teasing the tone of the second film. “It will look and feel slightly different from the first,” he said before adding that he can guarantee one thing: “Catching Fire” will not be in 3-D. “I don’t think it’s appropriate for this film. If we shoot in 3-D, we become the Capitol,” he said. Who Will play Finnick Odair? Much like the hullabaloo that surrounded the casting of Katniss, Peeta and Gale, fans are very invested in who will play hunky-yet-surprisingly-complex victor Finnick Odair. The list of fan hopefuls is all over the place and includes Armie Hammer, Alex Pettyfer, Garrett Hedlund, Hunter Parrish and YouTube star Joey Graceffa. (This writer would very much like for relatively unknown Benjamin Stone to be in the mix . See his work on “The Nine Lives of Chloe King” for proof.) Will Kristen Bell’s Campaigning Pay Off? In addition to charming us into total adoration via the release of her slightly embarrassing sloth video , Kristen Bell has not been shy about her love of “The Hunger Games.” The admitted superfan has launched her very own campaign of sorts to be cast as kick-ass District 7 champ Johanna Mason. Only time will tell to see if she gets her shot. We think she at least deserves an audition, don’t you? Which Scene Will Be the Most Swoon-Worthy? The greater messages in “The Hunger Games” are about survival and independence and freedom. However, we can’t help it if there are also several swoon-worthy scenes that we can’t wait to see played out onscreen between Katniss and Peeta and Gale. Speaking to “Catching Fire,” what will make us melt in our seats most? That “beach scene” between Katniss and Peeta or Katniss and Gale’s emotional exchange after he’s severely beaten and recovering at her mother’s house? The Case For Building the Better Blockbuster

It’s easy to pile on Hollywood for its craven cash grabs , sequelitis and other low-hanging fruit harvested and passed off in the name of popular entertainment. It’s also fair, after a glance at the top 20 or so openings of all time, to acknowledge that mass audiences have tended to let studios get away with such output over the last decade in particular. But if we’re to take anything from the huge opening-weekend success of The Hunger Games , it might be to look at its place on that list — squarely in third place, below even better-regarded cinematic efforts Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 and The Dark Knight . With this development, could crowds and critics alike have proven what the sheer volume of lesser hits would seem to contradict — that quality matters? Of course the success of these three films owes plenty to their source material and/or established film franchises preceding them. But virtually every entry in the top 20 enjoys this built-in advantage, from comic-book adaptations ( Spider-Man , Iron Man 2 to decades-old institutions ( Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull ) to literary sensations past ( Alice in Wonderland ) and present ( The Twilight Saga ). And few if any among this derivative lot have made as much of a critical impression as those films at the very top, which average nearly 92 percent favorable at the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. Not to declare RT any kind of objective barometer of a film’s quality. Still, its documented regard for Deathly Hallows – Part 2 , The Dark Knight and Hunger Games harmonizes with public tastes here in a way that implies something a little more than coincidence. First of all, it is extremely hard to gross more than $150 million in three days, even with the benefit of 3-D premiums — which, of the three, only Deathly Hallows – Part 2 enjoyed (all three had IMAX releases of varying sizes). The only other film to do it, Spider-Man 3 , was met with decidedly more mixed reviews but still remains ranked “fresh” at RT. Despite all you’ve heard about their decline, in both the art-house realms and the rarefied upper box-office echelons, the evidence suggests that critics indeed do still matter. Even the most cynical observer (I’m looking at you, Armond White ) who regards the critical establishment as a legion of pliant, hype-sensitive “shills” would need to acknowledge the success of their mission — largely as a service informing readers about new releases worth considering (or not) — and be encouraged by signs of influence and relevance. It also suggests that creative ambitions require as much a role in the development process as one’s marketing innovations. Just ask Christopher Nolan, or Hunger Games author Suzanne Collins or director Gary Ross . A brand (and sure, 3-D/IMAX) can only take a film so far. Vision seems to carry it much of the rest of the way — something viewers haven’t seen before, even if they know they characters and stakes by heart. Clearly, The Hunger Games ‘ windfall may not help Hollywood reconcile — on paper, anyway — its long-standing love-hate relationship with original ideas and stories. But it doesn’t have to. The Juno s and the Hangover s and Bridesmaids and Safe House s and whatever other original scripts that develop into huge-grossing films aren’t even the same breed of blockbuster. Their conceptual integrity, to the extent they have it at all, yields its own word-of-mouth — its own long tail that may or may not necessitate sequels of its own. So even if the original idea is down, it’s hardly out — not with the potential to follow up a modestly priced, well-liked hit with a true blockbuster in the same vein. At which point we’re back to the development basics: Smarts, vision, ambition and respecting one’s audience. It pays off, Hollywood. The numbers don’t lie. Follow S.T. VanAirsdale on Twitter . ‘Hunger Games’ Star Jennifer Lawrence: What’s Next?

A horror movie, two Bradley Cooper films and a return to Katniss Everdeen are all in the works. By Kara Warner Jennifer Lawrence at the “Hunger Games” premiere Photo: Getty Images For those of you who rushed out to the theater to see Jennifer Lawrence and company in this weekend’s box-office blockbuster “The Hunger Games,” how good was Lawrence as Katniss? If you were as delighted and moved by Lawrence’s performance as we were, you’re probably wondering what the Oscar nominee will be up to next. Lucky for you, we have a few answers! Here’s a little rundown of what to expect from Lawrence and where to see more of this talented, charming and all-around likable leading lady. (Side note: Before she jumps right into another project, we hope Lawrence takes a vacation of some sort and gets a little rest and relaxation after her extensive, worldwide promotional tour for “Games.” We loved seeing the cast at so many events and so dressed up, but she has to be exhausted!) Anyway, we have to wait until fall until we get another Lawrence film. The first is the horror/thriller “House at the End of the Street,” co-starring Elisabeth Shue. In the film, Lawrence and Shue play a mother/daughter duo who get wrapped up in the mystery of a murder in a small town. Shortly after the September 21 release of “House at the End of the Street,” fans will see a very brief appearance by Lawrence in “Devil You Know,” playing the younger version of Rosamund Pike’s character Zoe. In November, we’ll see Lawrence in “The Silver Linings Playbook,” the first of two films co-starring Bradley Cooper . “Silver Linings” revolves around a man who tries to put his life back together after spending years in a mental institution. “I just wrapped a movie called ‘The Silver Linings Playbook,’ ” Lawrence told MTV News recently. “And then I’m going to go shoot another Bradley Cooper movie. It’s not a Bradley Cooper movie — Bradley Cooper’s in the movie — it’s a Jennifer Lawrence movie with Bradley in it,” she joked. “Bradley Cooper and I are going to come out with a Jennifer Lawrence/ Bradley Cooper box set.” Their second film together is “Serena,” about a Depression-era couple who face personal complications when they learn that Lawrence’s character cannot bear children, which has a negative impact on the future of their lumber company. Fun fact about “Serena”: Lawrence’s role was originally intended for Angelina Jolie. “I’m not at the status where I have her roles. I have her leftovers, let’s be clear,” she joked of taking over for Jolie. “She left it for me. I have her garbage. No, that’s a wonderful place to be. I’m an actor digging through Angelina Jolie’s garbage. I’ve made it.” Shooting on “Serena” has yet to start. After her work on “Serena,” we’re all hoping Lawrence will be back playing Katniss for “Catching Fire” or getting painted to play Mystique in the yet-to-be-announced sequel to “X-Men: First Class.” Because “Fire” has a November 22, 2013, release date already locked in place, we’re betting Lawrence will be back wielding a bow and arrow before she’s spending countless hours in the makeup chair to “get painted again” for “X-Men.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Hunger Games.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Horror Games: See Jennifer Lawrence in First Peek at House at the End of the Street

Because Jennifer Lawrence ‘s StarMeter is sky-high during this glorious Hunger Games weekend, why not take a look at her next venture, the indie horror pic House at the End of the Street ? Katniss Everdeen this ain’t; JLawr (JenLaw? JLa? Did we ever figure this one out?) stars as a teenager who befriends a new neighbor (Max Thierot) whose family was murdered years ago. In the first image from the pic, a tank topped Lawrence discovers something mysterious and, from the look on her face, probably horrifying. Where’s that bow and arrow when you really need it…? EW has the exclusive scoop on what exactly Lawrence is up to in the pic, from director Mark Tonderai ( Hush ): “She’s basically managed to get into Max’s house, waiting for his character, and she’s made a discovery there about his family and is trying to hide before her presence is detected,” he says. Thieriot plays a 21-year-old who lingers in the house against the wishes of the other neighbors, who would rather forget both him and his family’s horrific history. “Since he lives in this house and is driving down people’s home values, he’s very ostracized in this town,” Tonderai says. “The murder was committed by his sister, and she disappeared into the woods. There’s this rumor she still lives in the woods. People have seen her, and she’s insane. But is she out in the woods? And if she is, how does she feel about her brother getting involved with somebody else?” (Read more at EW .) Elisabeth Shue co-stars as Lawrence’s mother; Relativity will release House at the End of the Street on September 21. • Jennifer Lawrence moves in beside ‘House at the End of the Street’ — FIRST LOOK [EW]

Does Jennifer Lawrence Show Skin in The Hunger Games?

In a word, no. Our Skin Skout saw a sneak preview of The Hunger Games earlier this week and says that the odds are not ever in favor of star Jennifer Lawrence showing skin in this sci-fi blockbuster. 37 minutes in Jennifer appears in a skin-tight black outfit as part of her presentation, and 42 minutes in she dons another tight workout outfit while practicing archery, but overall the PG-13 rated Hunger Games will leave you starved for nudity. And unfortunately Jennifer has yet to do a proper nude scene, though she went skin-tight for her role as Mystique in X-Men: First Class (2011), stripped to her bra in The Poker House (2008) and donned a bikini as a baby-faced 17-year-old on The Bill Engvall Show . But all is not lost, Skin fans: in a revealing interview with Esquire last month, Jennifer said that while she’s never done onscreen nudity, she’s open to the possibility: “ So far, I haven’t found a film I’d love to be naked in… But I certainly never look at an actress naked in a movie and judge her. It’s a human body, which is a beautiful thing, right? So stay tuned… ” See sexy pics and clips of The Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence right here at MrSkin.com
