Hurricane Irene Survival Tips ‘Jersey Shore’-Style

After flying to L.A. for the VMAs, the cast shares how they would have endured the storm’s charge through New Jersey. By Eric Ditzian Pauly D and Vinny Guadagnino Photo: MTV News “We’ve warned the public,” New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced on Saturday as Hurricane Irene shut down most of the East Coast, “and now we have to deal with Mother Nature.” That’s when the cast of the “Jersey Shore” took out their grenade whistle and declared: So long, ladies! The storm whipped through the Tri-State area early Sunday morning (August 28), leaving thousands in New Jersey and Long Island without power, and causing dangerous floods in the Garden State. But housemates Snooki, Vinny, Deena and Sammi were safe and dry, having sauntered aboard a private jet and zipped away from the tri-state area and toward Los Angeles for the VMAs , pausing only for Vinny to tweet a picture of himself at the controls of the aircraft. “I was flying the plane, but that was on the ground. I was just messing around in the cockpit,” he told us alongside his castmates a few hours after touching down in La La Land. “Being on a private jet, it’s not that bad — except it didn’t have wi-fi. Could you believe it?” Pauly couldn’t, turning to his pal and declaring, “You’ve changed, bro! When your private jet doesn’t have wi-fi and you gotta complain about it — Vinny problems!” Then again, they haven’t changed much at all. Their suggestions for hurricane preparedness included battery-powered hairdryers, a healthy dose of GTL, and the suggestion, “If you’re by the water, just be more not by the water.” Luckily for them (and, perhaps, their old Jersey stomping grounds), the reality stars were far from the hurricane’s path. Because if they were in the Heights, despite Irene’s wrath, the “Shore” kids would be staging one heck of a bash. “We’d have a lights-out party,” Pauly said. “You party for the whole duration,” Added Ronnie, “Hey, a bottle of Ron-ron juice, let’s go!” The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday from Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. The couple, who has two daughters, married in Italy. By Kelley L. Carter Sofia Coppola and Phoenix’s Thomas Mars Photo: Getty Images Oscar-winner Sofia Coppola and her longtime rocker boyfriend, Thomas Mars, tied the knot Saturday (August 27) in Italy. Coppola and Mars, frontman for Phoenix , said “I do” at a civil ceremony in the southern Italian hamlet of Bernalda, the hometown of Coppola’s grandparents. People.com reported that about 80 people attended the ceremony at a historic building owned by the bride’s famous father, director Francis Ford Coppola, who walked her down the aisle. She was dressed in a lavender gown designed by Azzedine Alaia, and the ceremony was officiated by the town’s mayor, Leonardo Chiruzzi. “Everything went well,” Chiruzzi told the Associated Press. “It was simple, calm, in the garden.” Another famous director, George Lucas, was in attendance. After the evening ceremony, the guests feasted on cheeses, figs, salads, pasta, fish, pork and, of course, the family’s wine. The couple announced their engagement in May and have two children: daughters Romy, 4, and Cosima, 15 months. Earlier this year, Mars said his group was working on the follow-up to their breakout album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix . “We’re meeting an orchestra,” Mars told Pedestrian.tv. Bassist Deck D’Arcy added: “We’re going to record a bunch of percussionists in [Australian beach town] Byron Bay.” “It’s a test,” Mars explained. “If it works, we’ll probably come back and record something that’s going to be on the album.” Related Artists Phoenix

Joe Jonas will be joining Britney Spears’ previously all female Femme Fatale tour – which also features second banana Nicki Minaj – later this summer. The middle Jonas brother will tagging along for one night only. Joe tweeted: “This just in…I will be performing at the @BritneySpears concert in NJ on Aug 5. and get ready for #FastLife in stores Oct. 11.” A musical dream team if ever there were one . Earlier this year, Joe was rumored to be Brit’s full-time opener before Team Spears locked in Nicki, but he’ll finally get to live the dream, if only for a night. Brit’s other new tour addition , Jersey Shore’s DJ Pauly D, won’t start his stint on the girl power gig until August 17, after Britney leaves the Garden State. We will fist-pump to that.

My name is Izabela. I have always been a belieber and I always…

My name is Izabela. I have always been a belieber and I always had a dream. It was to actually meet and get an autograph or a picture with my number one idol: Justin Bieber. Not until a couple days ago (June 23 2011) after all these years of trying to, I finally met him. I have always been entering contests and every opportunity that I had to meet him, I tried to accomplish it. But sadly not one gave me a chance, except for Jingle Ball 2011. I begged my parents for about a month or so to actually get a chance to go, and I even gave up tv and my laptop for a week. Honestly, the only reason why I wanted to go to Jingle Ball so badly was because Justin Bieber would be there. Once I got to Jingle Ball I saved my batteries on my camera until I saw Justin Bieber, although he was last to perform I didn’t mind. I saw him and that’s all that actually counted. Once Justin Bieber came up on stage to perform I was probably the most enthusiastic out of all the fans there, I was screaming, shouting, singing every song, and I even let out a little tear. From then on I was the happiest anyone can be. Then I heard about his My World Tour at Madison Square Garden, but I was in Europe at that time with my grandparents. The year after that (June, 21 and 22, 2011) I heard about winning Meet and Greet Tickets for Justin Bieber at Macy’s on Z100 but of course no hope. On June 22 2011, I heard about him being on the Today Show. I got my group of friends and we planned everything out. The next morning I woke up an hour late but nothing stopped me from going. I briskly got dressed at ran to the train station. Finally June,23, 2011 he came out to the screaming crowd and I was there. Standing behind the barriers to meet him, I was waiting impatiently until he came up to me. My heart stopped for a few minutes and I don’t even remember him signing my paper, and I let out the first few words, “Can I please have a picture with you”  and he just stood there and took a breathe and said “Sure” with a smile. My heart dropped, and I felt sort of bad because he was so tired and every girl was begging for something. One thing I do regret is not asking for a hug, but it’s okay, I’ll wait until next time!  Excerpt from: My name is Izabela. I have always been a belieber and I always…

NKOTBSB Mash It Up In New Jersey

Mega-boy band doesn’t disappoint hyped-up crowd at the Izod Center. By Jocelyn Vena NKOTBSB perform on tour (file) Photo: Gilbert Carrasquillo/ Getty Images EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey — NKOTBSB took their act to the Izod Center on Monday night, and it’s safe to say that for former teenyboppers everywhere, the matchup of New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys was the best show ever. It was a whirling, swirling boy-band bonanza complete with raging hormones, pop music and dancing in the aisles. The guys kept the audience on their feet from beginning to end, singing with a live backup band and accompanied by their sleek boy-band dancing. It all kicked off with a medley of the New Kids’ “Single” and Backstreet’s “The One.” Next up the guys went for newer jams like “Summertime,” “The Call,” “Dirty Dancing” and “Bye Bye Love.” The crowd went bananas when each NKOTBSB member came out on his own and kicked it old-school during tracks like “Right Stuff” and “Larger Than Life.” Then it all slowed down when New Kids performed smooth jams like “Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind)” and fan favorite “Please Don’t Go Girl,” bringing a touch of Motown flavor to the room. Backstreet kept things slow, making girls swoon with “Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely” and their hidden gem “10,000 Promises.” BSB-er Howie Dorough then played to the room, telling the crowd that some of the most beautiful women in the world are from the Garden State. “I’ll Never Break Your Heart,” “Drowning” and “Incomplete” filled out the ballad set from Backstreet. The hits just kept on coming thanks to the New Kids, who got the room excited with a number of songs including “Step by Step” and really old-school jam “Cover Girl.” Joey McIntyre told the crowd that “this is the gift that keeps on giving,” before playing their ode to fans, “Tonight.” Other songs that filled out the set from both groups included “Shape of My Heart,” “As Long As You Love Me,” “I Want It That Way,” “All I Have to Give,” “Quit Playing Games” and “I’ll Be Loving You Forever.” The guys were also joined by Naughty by Nature for the group’s dance-floor classic “O.P.P.” before the show began to come to a close with NKOTBSB’s joint effort “Don’t Turn Out the Lights.” As if that wasn’t enough of a one-two punch of power pop, Backstreet hit the stage again with “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” before the New Kids emerged, clad in bedazzled Boston Celtics jerseys, for “Hangin’ Tough.” How’d it all end? Both groups, BSB now in Magic jerseys, combined the two tracks for one final medley. Related Artists NKOTBSB

Do Foo Fighters Know Robert Pattinson From Robert Plant?

During band’s rehearsal break for Sunday’s Movie Awards, we put Foos to the test. By Ryan J. Downey The Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl Photo: MTV News UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Hard rock, heavy metal, hardcore and punk have long gone hand-in-hand with evil wizards, magic, vampires and werewolves. And with a collective sub-cultural pedigree that includes stints in the Germs, No Use for a Name, Sunny Day Real Estate, Scream and some band called Nirvana, you’d think the Foo Fighters — set to perform at Sunday’s Movie Awards — would know their “Potter” from their Zeppelin. Certainly they can recognize a “wand” reference and pinpoint its origin? Right? Before we put MTV News’ magically crafted trivia to the band, it seemed safe to assume the Foos would accurately distinguish between the words of Harry Potter, a “Twilight” character and Led Zeppelin. But was their underground nerd cred blown to shreds? Read on — and click the video! — to see how the Foo Fighters fared when we caught up with them on the Universal Studios lot, shortly after they finished rehearsing their Movie Awards performance. Our own Jim Cantiello played dungeon master as Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Taylor Hawkins, Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear were given a series of semi-famous lines and asked whether they originated with “Harry Potter,” the “Twilight Saga” or the lyrics of hard-rock pioneers Led Zeppelin. Here’s a sampling of a few of those one-liners:

Zoe Kravitz In ASOS: On Best Friend Jay-Z & Uncomfortable “It Girl” Title [PHOTOS]

Here is the original post:

Zoe Kravitz covers ASOS magazine’s July 2011 issue. Inside, she talks the “it girl” label that follows her everywhere, struggling to be best friends with Jay-Z, her parents’ style and discipline, and her latest films! She may be New York rock royalty, but the actress is flea market-loving geek at heart. On being labeled an “it-girl”: “All that ‘it-girl’ sh*t makes me kind of uncomfortable. I’m only at the beginning of my career, but I feel successful in that I haven’t sold out in any way, shape or form. I feel good about the choices I’ve made, and I don’t feel like I’ve let go of any of my values. Fame has become this obsession for people, which kind of creeps me out.” On Jay-Z: “I’d met Jay a few times, and then he asked me to be in his video for ‘I Know.’ After that we became really good friends and now he’s one of my favorite people. It sounds so weird when you say it because he’s f***ing Jay-Z! But what’s so weird is that he’s such a cool guy that sometimes I wish he wasn’t Jay-Z so we could hang out all day long and walk around and talk sh*t because I love him.” On being inspired by her mom, Lisa Bonet: “She walked away from being famous, because she didn’t really care about it. She is the most true artist I have met. She doesn’t change for anybody. I see her in front of people, in interviews, at home alone at five in the morning making collages, or in her garden, and I admire her so much. And that fact that she’s my mom is just so cool!” On her parent’s style: “I used to be a little embarrassed by how she and my dad would dress, but now I steal their clothes all the time. My dad had totally taken my Cat Stevens t-shirt, but it’s OK, I have his Black Flag one and that’s amazing. And my mom…There’s a little vintage store where she lives…She [donated] a bunch of [her] stuff while I was away and I went there when I got back and bought five of her things. Out of everything in the store, I’d bought my mother’s things.” On her parents’ discipline: “My dad was brought up very old school, very strict – ‘Yes, ma’am, yes sir.’ So he’s wearing leather pants and a boa, but he would be like, ‘Did you do your chores today?’ Or, ‘That dress is too short!’ [Or,] ‘Yes, there’s a party going on with Mick Jagger and some models, but it’s your bedtime.’” READ MORE BELOW THE GALLERY! On her breakthrough role in the Berlin Film Festival favorite “Yelling to The Sky”: “That was a really crazy, amazing experience. It was my first leading role, so it was a real challenge for me as an actor. It was very low budget, we shot it in 18 days, and it was not luxurious, but it was art. The heart and soul that went into making that film was wonderful and I’m proud to be a part of it.” On filming “X-Men: First Class”: “I feel like sometimes if you do a film with ‘movie stars’ there’s all this drama and superiority, but X-Men was not like that at all. We were living in London for four months and it was like X-Men summer camp, so we all hung out at each other’s houses after filming, went out to pubs… lived in Notting Hill, right by Portobello. I had about a month off when I first arrived in London, and I was like, “Can you send me to work please, because I’m spending all my money flea-market shopping!” On her band Elevator Fight : “Having a band is great, because with acting there are long periods of time out when you’re not doing anything, and I don’t like just sitting around, I go crazy. We found this house in the suburbs of Pennsylvania and did [the album] in eight days. Drank a lot of whisky and ate a lot of pizza and stayed up ’til 7am every day. We smelt so bad by the end, but I’m very happy with it. I don’t know what’s going to happen next, we don’t have a record deal, but we’re playing it by ear.” Zoe Kravitz Smokes A Cig, Shows Off Abs For Wonderland Mag [PHOTOS] Zoe Kravitz Debuts Two-Tone Hair At Tribeca Film Festival [PHOTOS]
