Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball Tour Will Gross Nearly $200 Million

By James Montgomery Lady Gaga Photo: Peter Wafzig/Getty Images There’s a reason Lady Gaga doesn’t ever seem to want to wrap up her globe-trotting Monster Ball Tour: It’s a moneymaking machine. Billboard is reporting that, by the time the curtain finally falls on the Ball — which kicked off in November 2009 and is scheduled to run until at least April 2011 — it will have grossed nearly $200 million worldwide. It’s a huge number, to be sure, and it’s more proof that Gaga has ascended to the upper echelon of touring acts. In 2009, U2’s 360 Tour was the year’s top-grossing jaunt, raking in more than $300 million, according to Billboard. Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet Tour was at #2, with receipts of more than $220 million. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band landed at #3, grossing more than $156 million. In the nearly 10 months it’s been on the road, Gaga’s Monster Ball has made stops in North America, Europe, the U.K., Scandinavia, Asia and Australia. And a spokesperson for Live Nation Entertainment, which produced U2’s and Madonna’s tours — and also serves as the producer on the Monster Ball — told Billboard that Gaga’s tremendous touring success only serves as further proof that she’s arrived on the scene and has seized the public’s consciousness. “It’s an opportunity,” Live Nation global touring chairman Arthur Fogel said. “As an artist with that kind of talent and vision emerges, it creates a lot of excitement, and ticket sales worldwide demonstrate that people are really excited to see the show. “Over the course of the next many months, we’re trying to play to as many people in as many places as possible,” he added. “It’s an across-the-board home run.” Have you caught the Monster Ball yet? ‘The Expendables’ Stars Talk Sequel

By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Sylvester Stallone in “The Expendables” Sylvester Stallone knows exactly where he’s going to take the Expendables, his band of grizzled mercenaries , now that their flick has grossed $35 million over its opening weekend: back to the multiplex for a sequel. And Sly’s “Expendables” co-stars are primed and ready to go, as they told MTV News when we caught up with them at Comic-Con last month. “I would love to come back. Thank god I don’t die,” laughed Terry Crews. “I’m ready to come back and do another.” Dolph Lundgren also expressed his desire to return for a second installment, which Stallone has said is already plotted out in his mind. Sly is hoping that with Arnold Schwarzenegger leaving the California governor’s mansion early next year, the action hero will return to “Expendables” territory, perhaps for a meatier role this time. “If this works, I would love to get him in the next one,” Stallone told us. “I really think so. He’s been out of the limelight a long time, and I think this is the kind of film that would be a nice intro.” Sly convinced Arnie to do it once; there’s no reason to think he can’t do it again. There’s just something magnetic about Stallone, as interviews with his co-stars made clear. Again and again during our Comic-Con chats, the cast spoke effusively about Sly’s leadership skills on-set. “With all this testosterone and all this adrenaline walking around, he kept it all in check,” laughed Steve Austin. Added Crews, “There’s no other person on the planet who could have put something like this [together] except for Sylvester Stallone. He created the whole summer tent pole as we know it. John Stamos Could Have Been A TV Hooker

John Stamos will join the cast of Glee as Emma Pillsbury’s new love interest this fall, but years ago, creator Ryan Murphy had different plans for the Full House alum. “Ryan wanted me to play a male hooker,” Stamos said this morning during an On Air With Ryan Seacrest interview. “I’ll never forget, I was sitting in The Ivy, [and Ryan said], ‘I’ve got a show for you! Male hooker, and you have sex with the guys and the girls and you fix their marriages!'” If only Stamos had taken that project instead of Jake in Progress . Collective sigh. [ E! ]

It was a dazzling mixture of couture, high-flying dancing and lots of chart-toppers. And when MTV News caught up with some of Rihanna’s biggest fans after the curtains closed on the show, they all said the “Love the Way You Lie” singer didn’t disappoint. “Rihanna was awesome,” Elizabeth gushed. “She was amazing. It was the best concert I’ve ever been to.” Another fan, Kaitlin, added, “Rihanna is badass! She’s badass! She’s awesome! She’s always good!” Other fans gave it up for Rihanna’s ability to interact with the audience , making them truly feel her songs. “I thought Rihanna was amazing. Every lyric she had … or every lyric she wrote, it was just so useful,” Caitlin said. “Everybody like, even though you could dance to it and everything, you really think about [the lyrics] and it goes to your heart.” “I loved each and every minute of it,” Neema added. “We danced the whole time. It was great.” The show’s party vibe translated to the set list, and standouts included fan Christina’s favorite song, “Breakin’ Dishes.” She said, “I definitely rocked out to that because I felt the moment and I felt the same exact way she did. I really wanted to break dishes, and it was just amazing.” Her admirers not only raved about Rihanna’s fine performance, but also praised her opening act, Ke$ha, who brought her raucous attitude to the stage. “It was amazing. Rihanna put on such a good show and Ke$ha did too, actually,” Chelsea said. “Great show!” she continued before raving about the fashion. “Rihanna’s outfits were extraordinary.
