‘New Moon’ Stars Talk Hottest Kisses During MTV Movie Awards

‘It’s a kiss I would want to be a part of,’ Alex Meraz says of Sandra Bullock and Scarlett Johansson’s smooch. By Eric Ditzian Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Christopher Polk/ Getty Images It was a smooch-filled evening at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday night (June 6). First Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart reenacted their onscreen lip-locking onstage — albeit it with a jokey awkwardness. Then Sandra Bullock accepted her Generation Award and ended up swapping spit with presenter Scarlett Johansson . So the big question backstage at the Gibson Amphitheatre was “Who had the hotter kiss?” The cast of “New Moon” had many answers for us, and they didn’t all agree. “I got to go Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson,” Peter Facinelli told MTV News. “They’re my people. They’re my family. But that other one was pretty hot too.” Elizabeth Reaser cast her vote in the other direction. “I’ve never seen Scarlett and Sandra Bullock make out, so I’ll go for the novelty of the hotness, which takes it up a notch,” she said. “That was hot. That was genuinely hot. I didn’t expect it. Those things are usually a little forced, a little weird. And it was sort of genuinely hot.” Jackson Rathbone concurs. “Hands down, easy — that was Scarlett and Sandra Bullock. That was some sexiness,” he said. “I liked it. You should do it more often!” Alex Meraz was on the same page as Rathbone, and he had some compelling reasoning behind his viewpoint. “I’m going to have to go with Sandra Bullock and Scarlett Johansson,” Meraz said. “It’s a better kiss. It’s a kiss I would want to be a part of.” For those keeping track at home, that’s one vote for KStew and RPattz and three for Sandra and Scarlett. And then there’s Anna Kendrick, who couldn’t cast a vote because she was pulled out of her seat not once but twice to attend to her various Movie Awards duties. “Of course, I’m backstage for both of them,” she confessed. “I didn’t really get an angle on it. So I’ll go home and review each one very carefully and let you know.” Relive the wildest, funniest and most-jaw-dropping moments of the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, watch revealing red-carpet interviews and get exclusive movie clips after the show at MovieAwards.MTV.com. Will Ferrell Weighs In On Sandra And Scarlett’s MTV Movie Awards Kiss

‘The Other Guys’ star says the smooch between ‘Sandra and Charlotte’ was one of the high points of the night. By Todd Gilchrist, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Scarlett Johannson and Sandra Bullock at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards Photo: MTV When he could remember the names of the actresses involved, actor Will Ferrell told MTV News that he thought that the surprise kiss between Generation Award recipient Sandra Bullock and presenter Scarlett Johansson was one of the evening’s high points. When asked what he enjoyed seeing the most during the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, he said, “I can say Sandra Bullock and Charlotte,” meaning Scarlett Johansson. Unflappable even in the face of the gaffe, Ferrell nodded and corrected himself. “Scarlett Johansson. She goes by Charlotte, though — she usually drops the ‘S.’ ” After being presented with her Generation Award, recipient Sandra Bullock shared an unexpected lip-lock with Scarlett Johansson during her acceptance speech. Truth be told, their smooch actually legitimized Johansson’s spot on the stage alongside fellow presenters Bradley Cooper and Betty White — after declining to say anything during the Generation presentation, Johansson finally admitted she was there in place of “The Proposal” star Ryan Reynolds, who was nominated alongside Bullock for Best Kiss, and she and Bullock initiated an impromptu make-out session in response to, well, losing the award. Even without the kiss, the presentation of Bullock’s Generation Award was unquestionably one of the highlights of the show. As Johansson deferred to her co-presenters, Cooper provided a litany of weird nicknames for his “All About Steve” co-star, and then stepped aside as White recounted many of the movies in Bullock’s storied career, albeit wildly inaccurately. Bullock’s gracious and funny acceptance speech paid homage to her collaborations with Cooper and White, made light of her recent personal woes and then she petitioned attendees and viewers to go back to making fun of her. During his own appearance, however, Ferrell and his “The Other Guys” co-star Mark Wahlberg hung above the Movie Awards stage in a suitably awkward recreation of the film’s advertising campaign while their fellow castmembers Eva Mendez, Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson presented the award for Best Villain. Wahlberg was outraged when Tom Fenton, Harry Potter’s Draco Malfoy, thanked an extensive list of supporters, friends and family. Ferrell, meanwhile, offered a few unsolicited comments about the growing pain in his groin from the harness that held him in the air. 2010 MTV Movie Awards Dominated By ‘New Moon,’ Sandra Bullock, Les Grossman

Aziz Ansari led the wildly hilarious (and frequently emotional) awards show. By Josh Wigler Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage With five awards for “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” zilch for “Avatar,” visually insane dance numbers, gut-busting parodies and so much more, the 2010 MTV Movie Awards made for a wildly hilarious, frequently emotional and shockingly vulgar night. The evening kicked off with media mogul Les Grossman , who lived up to his fiery reputation by pushing popular actors like Will Smith and Michael Cera down some surprising new career paths. One such idea was “Bad Ass Cops,” a police-themed action adventure starring “Twilight” leading men Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. But Grossman’s time in the spotlight was quickly yanked away by host Aziz Ansari , who followed up with some segments of his own, including one that put him in the tragic shoes of Claireece “Precious” Jones. The host finally took the stage thanks to an introduction made by music sensation Justin Bieber, prompting Ansari to launch into an opening comedy act that set the tone for the rest of the hilarious evening. Part of Ansari’s monologue dwelled on the pervasive popularity of “Twilight,” a notion that was decisively affirmed when Kristen Stewart kicked off the awards portion of the show by winning Best Female Performance for her portrayal of Bella Swan in the supernatural-romance franchise. Even the award for Breakthrough Performance went to Anna Kendrick, who won for “Up in the Air” but got her break in the “Twilight Saga.” Presenters and “Get Him to the Greek” co-stars Jonah Hill and Russell Brand embarked on an epic Team Jacob vs. Team Edward debate that left Sean “Diddy” Combs fully confused. That wasn’t the only hilarious moment from the “Greek” stars, as Hill and Brand engaged in a full-on lip-locking assault during a special Kiss Cam segment that also claimed Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. But the most memorable kiss of the evening belonged to Sandra Bullock and Scarlett Johansson , as they shared a quick smooch during Bullock’s acceptance of the Generation Award. Indeed, Bullock’s acceptance speech was one of the highlights of the evening, marking her first major public appearance since news broke of husband Jesse James’ infidelity. To that end, Bullock wanted to clear the air on certain rumors: She is not dead, everyone has cellulite “not just me,” and paparazzi photographers need more flattering lenses. Taking a more serious tone, Bullock emphasized that even in light of her Generation Award, something that typically goes to “old people” as they wind down their careers, as she put it, she has no plans of leaving the spotlight. “No matter what you might have heard or read lately, I love what I do, and I’m not going anywhere,” she said, adding that everyone in the audience should say a prayer for those affected by the oil spill in the Gulf. Her emotional speech was matched only by “The Hangover” actor Ken Jeong’s own acceptance of the Best WTF Moment award. Jeong broke down in tears recounting his wife’s battle with breast cancer. “She taught me that life is short and you shouldn’t be afraid to take chances,” the choked-up Jeong announced, happily revealing that his wife has been cancer-free for two years now. Beyond Bullock and Jeong’s heartfelt speeches, the show featured some very different but no less intense moments, thanks to performances of Katy Perry and Snoop Dogg’s “California Gurls,” Christina Aguilera’s medley of songs from her upcoming album Bionic (complete with a glowing heart on her underwear) and the return of Les Grossman in a shockingly well-choreographed dance number opposite Jennifer Lopez. But the biggest laughs of the night came from Team Aziz. The host provided viewers with a terrific “Human Giant” reunion alongside Rob Huebel and Paul Scheer in a sketch titled “Stunt Kidz.” He also appeared as Taavon, a tough-as-nails swagger coach (who can only sit on purple chairs) hired to impart swagger tips to comedian Zach Galifianakis, an effort that paid off, as the “Hangover” comedian ultimately won the award for Best Comedic Performance. Ansari as Taavon accepted the award on Galifianakis’ behalf. Ansari also paved the way for one of the most foulmouthed Movie Awards in the ceremony’s history. Following Bullock’s acknowledgement of the oil spill in the Gulf region, Ansari wildly shouted “f— you, BP” numerous times as he sang an R. Kelly-style tribute to “Avatar.” But his filthy language paled in comparison to Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell’s, as the stars of “The Other Guys” dangled from the theater’s ceiling, frantically cursing at their situation. The incessant swearing of the show’s many guests didn’t go unnoticed by actor Peter Facinelli. While accepting the Best Movie award for “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” Carlisle Cullen dropped some F-bombs of his own and two of them managed to slip past the censors, to the surprise of many. Less surprising, to Ansari at least, was the virtual awards sweep made by “New Moon.” The host may have over-exaggerated by declaring that ” ‘Twilight’ won everything,” but the franchise’s second installment did emerge as the evening’s greatest winner with victories in the Best Movie, Best Male Performance, Best Female Performance, Best Kiss and Global Star categories. “The Hangover” was the second most successful film with wins for Best Comedic Performance and Best WTF Moment, while “Avatar” walked away without a single award to its name. ‘Harry Potter’ Clip At MTV Movie Awards Hints At Dark, Intense ‘Deathly Hallows’

Major portion of the final chapters will focus on Harry/ Voldemort relationship, footage suggests. By Kara Warner Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I” Photo: Warner Bros. With every new glimpse of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1” it becomes more and more apparent that the final two chapters of the Potter story will be the darkest and most intense yet. The latest clip, which debuted during the MTV Movie Awards Sunday, showed that a major portion of the first of the final two Potter films will be focused on the ominous relationship between Harry and He Who Must Not Be Named, Voldemort. It’s fitting, given that over the course of roughly a decade (seven books, soon-to-be eight films) Harry Potter has lived in the shadow of the dark wizard who killed his parents. The clip opened with the always foreboding-looking Voldemort (played by Ralph Fiennes) standing on an unknown peak, deep in evil thought. His voice is heard plotting Potter’s death, once again: “I have to be the one to kill [Harry Potter].” Cut to fast-paced imagery of Harry, Ron and Hermione at various places on their journey to track down the remaining Horcruxes and the Deathly Hallows; various action sequences that hint at the possible impending doom for our hero; an intense and emotional show-down between Harry and his best friend, Ron. Though we were hoping for a shot of the long-awaited Hermione and Ron kiss, we have to settle for the quick shot of Harry and Ginny’s romantic embrace before they part ways. While we know the studio is hesitant to reveal any spoilers for the movie, we still hoped to see a few more happy moments: Bill and Fleur’s wedding, Harry being named godfather of Lupin and Tonks’ baby, etc. What did you think of the new spot? Sandra Bullock Celebrates MTV Generation Award With Kiss From Scarlett Johansson

Bullock puckered up with her ‘Proposal’ co-star Ryan Reynolds’ wife during her acceptance speech. By Gil Kaufman Scarlett Johansson and Sandra Bullock onstage at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ FilmMagic The last time we saw Sandra Bullock on the stage at a major awards show, she was collecting an Academy Award for her role in “The Blind Side.” Things were a little different on Sunday night at the MTV Movie Awards , where the lovable actress — whose movies have grossed nearly $700 million worldwide in the past year — celebrated her latest honor by smooching with Scarlett Johansson. With co-stars Betty White and Bradley Cooper joined by Johansson to present the Generation Award, Bullock got a standing ovation from the rowdy crowd. “Sandy, I know I’m not alone in saying I hope you know how loved you are,” said Cooper, screaming over the hyped-up audience. “Both for your incredible talent and for being such a humble and effervescent woman. I know you by many names: Sandra B., Sands, S Bomb, Supreme, Sausage, Sanda Duche.” Cooper bragged about getting to know Bullock on the set of the “award-winning” film “All About Steve,” which earned her a Razzie for Best Actress the same weekend she won the Oscar for “The Blind Side.” “You’re a once-in-a-generation talent,” he said. “You inspire me with the ability to shine through any darkness, and congratulations on this award.” With a Golden Globe in her pocket, as well as a pair of giant hits this year with “The Proposal” and “Blind Side,” Bullock’s nearly 20-year Hollywood career was reason enough to honor the actress. She’s won moviegoers’ hearts as everything from America’s bumbling sweetheart to damaged and righteous women and a few damsels in distress, all of it evidenced in the tribute shown before Bullock took the stage. Glimpses of everything from “Miss Congeniality” to “While You Were Sleeping” and “Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood” were featured in the montage. “You are grace defined and I adore you madly,” said everyone’s favorite foul-mouthed granny, White, who got to know Bullock during the filming of “The Proposal.” “Our sex scenes were cut for theatrical release,” she lamented, “but don’t worry, everyone can see them on the unrated DVD. Sandy, you are a national treasure, which I know a thing or two about since my ovaries were recently named historical monuments.” Then, despite professing to be a huge fan of Bullock’s movies, White went on to prove she knows nothing about the actresses’ oeuvre, describing “Blind Side” as Bullock’s “daring and race-bending portrayal of Stevie Wonder.” Johansson, however, preferred to just keep mum, perhaps still holding a grudge over the full frontal scene Bullock shared with Ryan Reynolds — Johansson’s husband — in “The Proposal.” With her radiant smile on display, Bullock, who has won four previous MTV Movie Awards, soaked in the extended ovation, begging the audience to sit down. “So the Generation Award, is that an award for old people who have extended their welcome and we should make nice and leave so someone new could come in, because that’s not going to happen. I’m staying,” said Bullock, wearing a shimmering black minidress and apologizing to Cooper for co-starring with him in the only one of his movies that has bombed so far. “No matter what you might have seen or heard or read lately, I love what I do,” she added with an emphatic finger wag. “And I’m not going anywhere. Speaking of what you might have read or heard lately, I thought I’d take this moment to clear up a couple things.” She then pulled out a slip of paper and read the following: “I am not dead. Number 2, everybody has cellulite, not just me. Paparazzi need more flattering lenses. Whoever established the high road and how high it was going to be should be fired. And I’ve never gone 14 days without showering, while chain-smoking while crying on the shoulder of my sweet aunt Ludie, because I shower twice a day, I don’t smoke and sweet Aunt Ludie died a year ago.” When Bullock finally asked Johansson why she was there, the actress admitted she was filling in for Reynolds, who could not make it. That set up a way awkward moment between the two women, during which Johansson complimented Bullock for the really nice, really soft-looking kiss she shared with Reynolds, then slowly approached the honoree and proceeded to share a sweet lady kiss that shocked everyone. “Now that we have done that, can we please go back to normal,” Bullock pleaded, urging the audience to say a prayer for those affected by the devastating BP Oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. “Because therapy is really expensive. Go back to making fun of me, I don’t care. It’s time to get back to normal.” Bullock joins a roster of past Generation Award winners that includes such funnymen as Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers and Jim Carrey, not to mention Les Grossman himself, Tom Cruise. But on Sunday night, she became the first-ever female recipient of the honor. College Kids These Days Are Heartless Bastards

College students today are less likely to “get” the emotions of others than their counterparts 20 and 30 years ago, a new review study suggests. Specifically, today's students scored 40 percent lower on a measure of empathy than their elders did. The findings are based on a review of 72 studies of 14,000 American college students overall conducted between 1979 and 2009. “We found the biggest drop in empathy after the year 2000,” said Sara Konrath, a researcher at the University of Michigan's Institute for Social Research. The study was presented this week at the annual meeting of the Association for Psychological Science in Boston. Is “generation me” all about me? Compared with college students of the late 1970s, current students are less likely to agree with statements such as “I sometimes try to understand my friends better by imagining how things look from their perspective,” and “I often have tender, concerned feelings for people less fortunate than me.” “Many people see the current group of college students – sometimes called 'Generation Me' – as one of the most self-centered, narcissistic, competitive, confident and individualistic in recent history,” said Konrath, who is also affiliated with the University of Rochester Department of Psychiatry. Konrath's colleague graduate student Edward O'Brien added, “It's not surprising that this growing emphasis on the self is accompanied by a corresponding devaluation of others.” Other recent studies have shown mixed results on the character of today's youth. For instance, one study of more than 450,000 high-school seniors born at different time periods showed today’s youth are no more self-centered than their parents were at their age. The role of media Even so, Konrath and O'Brien suggest several reasons for the lower empathy they found, including the ever-increasing exposure to media in the current generation. “Compared to 30 years ago, the average American now is exposed to three times as much nonwork-related information,” Konrath said. “In terms of media content, this generation of college students grew up with video games, and a growing body of research, including work done by my colleagues at Michigan, is establishing that exposure to violent media numbs people to the pain of others.” The rise in social media could also play a role. “The ease of having 'friends' online might make people more likely to just tune out when they don't feel like responding to others' problems, a behavior that could carry over offline,” O'Brien said. In fact, past research has suggested college students are addicted to social media. Other possible causes include a society today that’s hypercompetitive and focused on success, as well as the fast-paced nature of today, in which people are less likely than in time periods past to slow down to really listen to others, O'Brien added. “College students today may be so busy worrying about themselves and their own issues that they don't have time to spend empathizing with others, or at least perceive such time to be limited,” O'Brien said. You can find out your empathy score and how it compares with today’s college students by taking the empathy quiz. http://gawker.com/5550803/college-kids-these-days-are-heartless-unfeeling-bastar… added by: pjacobs51
