Is “Red Tails” The Black “Star Wars”? [EXCLUSIVE]

See more here:

On Friday January 20, 2012 George Luca’s passion project, Red Tails , will finally be in theaters. After years of lobbying in Hollywood to get a feature film made about the Tuskegee Airmen, the director and producer financed the project with his own money. Where The Red Tails Worked And Played Overseas Tapping director Anthony Hemingway (“The Wire”, “OZ”, “The Corner”) to execute his vision, an all-star cast of talent was assembled to tell the story of the fighting 332nd Fighter Group and the 477th Bombardment Group of the U.S. Army Air Corps that fought in WWII. Given that Lucas is known by most for his epic Star Wars franchise, which was inspired in many ways by the fighting in World War II, it only seemed right to ask the cast of Red Tails if their new movie qualified to be the Black Star Wars. Red Tails executive producer George Lucas had nothing but good intentions by getting this movie made, but he admits that he has unintentionally put Black filmmakers in jeopardy. He financed Red Tails with his own money because he could not get a studio in Hollywood to pick it up. Red Tails cost $58 million to make, more than most other Black films to produce, and if it doesn’t succeed financially, Lucas recognizes that studios will be less likely to green light more movies by Black filmmakers for Black audiences. Read the rest of his comments at  HuffPost . Watch him talk about why getting his film made was such a challenge in the clip below. That’s When George Lucas Lent Chewbacca to Glee

First, George Lucas loaned Yoda to a Japanese instant noodle company in need of a marketing face (and wisdom applicable to ramen). And now, in an even bigger burn to U.S. Star Wars fans, the franchise creator has shipped Chewbacca to the set of Glee for a one-episode arc. What is this world coming to?

Carrie Fisher Compares Star Wars to Star Trek, Insults Klingon

And now, allow Carrie Fisher to break up your busy work day by pointing out the differences between the epic film franchise in which she starred as Princess Leia, Star Wars , and the television sci-fi series Star Trek . “They’re not in the same league. I mean, they have the word ‘star’ in the title. And there is space travel. Where do they go to? Klingon? That sounds like a laundry detergent.” Click here for the rest of Fisher’s inspired diatribe which also touches on Star Wars merchandising, her Princess Leia Metal bikini and Dick Cheney’s penis, of course. Rapper Immortal Technique Reviews Immortals, Invokes Kubrick, Slams Star Wars

I’ve said it before: Next Movie’s ” Rappers Review Movies ” video series is ingenious. The latest rhymer to play Ebert with Hollywood’s new releases is NYC -based Immortal Technique, a lyricist who frequently uses his songs to draw attention to socio-economic and political disparities. Taking on Tarsem ‘s Greek actioner Immortals , he drops some serious conscious commentary on even greater issues: Namely, how much Clash of the Titans and the next-gen Star Wars movies totally sucked. Steven Spielberg Blames George Lucas for Indiana Jones Aliens, But Takes Credit for Nuking the Fridge

Steven Spielberg may have hated George Lucas ‘s addition of aliens into Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls , but the much-loathed refrigerator scene? All him. “What people really jumped at was Indy climbing into a refrigerator and getting blown into the sky by an atom-bomb blast. Blame me. Don’t blame George. That was my silly idea. People stopped saying ‘jump the shark.’ They now say, ‘nuked the fridge.’ I’m proud of that. I’m glad I was able to bring that into popular culture.” See here, fellas: No one gets away clean. 9 Pro Tips For Breaking Into Visual Effects From Jurassic Park’s VFX Pioneers

If there’s anyone who knows about breaking barriers in the visual effects industry, it’s Dennis Muren, Phil Tippett and John Rosengrant, whose computer-generated dinosaur effects on Jurassic Park forever changed the FX landscape, earned them Academy Awards and famously caused George Lucas to tear up with joy. But their work pioneering new technologies did not begin or end with Steven Spielberg’s 1993 classic. The artists have worked on some of Hollywood’s most technologically innovative titles including Star Wars , E.T. : The Extra-Terrestrial , Predator , Terminator 2: Judgment Day , A.I. Artificial Intelligence and Avatar .

Mr. Skin’s Blu-Ray Discoveries: Return of the Jedi [PICS]

Is nothing sacred, George Lucas ? As if he hasn’t done enough to destroy generations’ worth of goodwill from fanatical Star Wars fans by tinkering with his creations (and by creating Jar Jar Binks), our own Blu-ray Ninja has made a discovery that means George is officially dead to us. Femi Taylor plays slave dancer Oola in the sexiest of the Star Wars sagas, Episode VI: Return of the Jedi . When Femi is thrown into the pit in Jabba’s throne room and stands up to await her Rancorian doom, in the Blu-ray edition you can clearly see her nips through her mesh top (see above). Awesome, right? But don’t unsheathe your lightsaber just yet, young Jedi. In the scene immediately before, As Oola is struggling with Jabba, one breast pops out of her shirt. This ought to be a great peek at her Twi’lek tit, but our Blu-ray ninja has confirmed that the nipple has been digitally blurred out for the Blu-ray release. What’s the use of HD if you can’t use it to freeze-frame nip slips? There’s only one proper reaction to this sort of news. Find out what our Blu-ray ninja had to say about Carrie Fisher ‘s long-rumored slave Leia nip slip after the jump!
