George Zimmerman Appears in Court; Affidavit Outlines Probable Cause For Murder Charge

George Zimmerman made his first court appearance since being officially charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman wore a gray prison jumpsuit and spoke only to answer “Yes, sir,” after being asked questions about the charge against him and his lawyer. His hair was shaved down to stubble and he sported a thin goatee, which appeared consistent with his booking photo from the day before (below). He resurfaced Wednesday to turn himself in after weeks in hiding. Meanwhile, a new document provided additional details on the prosecution’s case. Judge Mark E. Herr said he found probable cause to move forward with the case and an arraignment would be held on May 29 before another judge. The affidavit of probable cause prepared by prosecutors shed some light on why they chose to charge Zimmerman in the February 26 shooting. The Orlando Sentinel says that on that night, Trayvon Martin’s mother identified screams heard in the background of a 911 call as her son’s. There were doubts as to whether Martin or Zimmerman called for help. Prosecutors interviewed a friend of Martin’s who was talking to him just before the shooting. Martin told the witness he was being followed and was scared. Martin tried to run home, the affidavit says, but was followed by Zimmerman. The affidavit says, “Zimmerman got out of his vehicle and followed Martin.” The affidavit says that “Zimmerman disregarded the police dispatcher” during his initial 911 call , who told him to stop, and “continued to follow Martin.” The 17-year-old “was trying to return to his home.” George Zimmerman: First Court Appearance At a press conference following the court appearance, Zimmerman’s attorney Mark O’Mara said he will seek a bond hearing “in the next few weeks.” Zimmerman is widely expected to enter a not guilty plea. O’Mara said he is working on finding a place he could safely stay if he is released before trial. Speaking to reporters after the hearing, O’Mara said he was concerned that the case up until now has been handled largely in the public eye. “It’s really supposed to happen in the courtroom,” O’Mara said, deflecting questions about evidence in the case and his client’s mental state. “He’s tired,” O’Mara said when asked about Zimmerman, who has said he acted in self-defense and that Martin was the aggressor that night. “He’s gone through some tribulations of his own, being the focus of the intensity of this event. He’s facing second degree murder charges now.” “He’s frightened. That would frighten any one of us.”

George Zimmerman Charged With Second-Degree Murder in Trayvon Martin Case

George Zimmerman will face criminal charges in the death of Trayvon Martin. According to a senior law enforcement quoted by CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC and the Associated Press, the neighborhood watch captain in Sanford, Fla., will be charged criminally in the February 26 case that has captivated the nation. A legal analyst said earlier that the most likely charge would be manslaughter, but it was just announced that Zimmerman faces second-degree murder charges. A press conference announcing the decision took place at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Angela Corey, the special prosecutor appointed by Florida Gov. Rick Scott to look into the incident, stated earlier that she would not take the case to a grand jury . That automatically ruled out first-degree murder as an option, but the second-degree murder charge was still on the table – and ultimately what Corey decided. “I can tell you we absolutely did not come to this decision lightly,” Corey told reporters moments ago. “We do not prosecute by public pressure.” Zimmerman is in custody, Corey confirmed, though she gave no additional details. CNN reports that he surrendered to local officials earlier today. Lawyers for Zimmerman, 28, stepped down from the case Tuesday, saying he’d become uncommunicative and expressing concern for his emotional and physical well-being. “As of the last couple days, he has not returned phone calls, text messages or emails,” Craig Sonner, one of Zimmerman’s former attorneys, said.

Bye Hater: Rick “Stinky” Santorum Drops Out 2012 GOP Presidental Campaign

You ain’t gotta go home but you gotta get the hell outta here! In a surprise decision Tuesday, former Sen. Rick Santorum announced that he is suspending his presidential campaign, all but putting an end to the Republican primary: “We made a decision to get into this race at our kitchen table, against all the odds, and we made a decision over the weekend that while this presidential race is over for me, and we will suspend our campaign effective today, we are not done fighting,” Santorum said during an address in Gettysburg, Pa. During his 14-minute speech, Santorum notably did not endorse Mitt Romney. The Pennsylvania Republican had taken a break from the campaign trail for several days to tend to his ailing daughter, Bella. He had pledged to continue campaigning through the upcoming Pennsylvania primary. But the combination of his daughter’s sickness and recent poll numbers showing him possibly losing his home state apparently prompted the early departure. According to Yahoo! News, Santorum called Romney earlier in the day to inform him of his decision to suspend his campaign. The former senator also made a call to campaign operatives to relay his decision. About damn time! Quitting just before his home state primary? Ole’ boy knew he didn’t have a snowballs chance in hell on competeing aganist Nasty Newt or Money Makin’ Mitt. Poor thang. **BREAKING NEWS** George Zimmerman’s Legal Team Has Withdrawn From His Defense, They Never Met Him, Can’t Get In Contact With Him!!

Wait, WHAT?!?! George Zimmerman’s Attorney’s Withdraw From His Defense Attorneys for a Florida neighborhood watch volunteer who fatally shot an unarmed black teen have withdrawn as his counsel, saying they have lost contact with him. Attorney Craig Sonner said Tuesday in a news conference they haven’t heard from George Zimmerman since Sunday. They said that against their advice, Zimmerman contacted the special prosecutor who will decide if he should face charges. Zimmerman is at the center of an investigation over the shooting of Trayvon Martin, 17. Zimmerman says he shot Martin in self-defense after following him in a gated community in Sanford on Feb. 26. Martin, who was unarmed, was black. Zimmerman’s father is white and his mother is Hispanic. The lack of an arrest has inspired nationwide protests and some claims of racial profiling, which Zimmerman’s supporters deny. In the CNN press conference that is playing live right now, the lawyers claim that they have never actually met George Zimmerman in person, however they do still believe that he acted in self-defense. Sounds REALLY fishy…we’re willing to bet money that this guy offs himself and will never see the light of a courtroom. SMH! Source Stay tuned to Bossip as more details emerge!! UPDATE : Zimmerman’s attorney is still talkin’ greasy to the media as we speak and is totally convinced that Georgy is innocent. “It’s no so much that we are resigning. It’s that we cannot continue to represent him until he comes forward,” said attorney Craig Sonner. “He’s got to reach out to us,” added co-counsel Hal Uhrig “He’s not returning my message not returning my texts not returning my emails. He wont’ even give me a collect call,” Sonner said. Despite stepping away from Zimmerman as a client, both attorneys say they continue to believe he acted in self-defense. “We frankly believe the correct decision will be to not charge him,” Uhrig said. The attorneys say they know of Zimmerman’s location and have his personal phone number but have been unable to reach him directly for 48 hours. “George can’t go out and buy a Diet Coke. There’s a bounty on his head,” Uhrig said. “We’ve been able to handle the case by phone up this point,” Sonner said. “But there were face-t0-face meeting scheduled.” Both attorneys repeatedly refused to reveal Zimmerman’s location but insinuated that he is no longer in Florida. “You can stop looking in Florida. look much further away than that,” Uhrig said.
