Trayvon Martin Autopsy Report Released; Family Slams "Strategic" Leaks in George Zimmerman Case

The attorney for Trayvon Martin’s family claims there have been strategic leaks of records in the case intended to benefit defendant George Zimmerman. Attorney Benjamin Crump said on Wednesday he wants “full transparency” in the case, and called for all the police files on the subject to be released. After several news outlets were given access to a sealed medical examiner’s report on Martin and a police report on Zimmerman, Crump was incensed. “It was leaked for a beneficial purpose, certainly to help George Zimmerman’s claim of self-defense,” he said. “This report needs to be vetted with a keen eye.” “Look at this in the full context. George Zimmerman made the decision to get out of his car, profile Trayvon Martin, pursue Trayvon Martin and confront him.” According to NBC News, the autopsy on the slain 17-year-old says that Martin was killed by a single “penetrating gunshot wound to the chest” Feb. 26. Meanwhile, medical records leaked to ABC News showed Zimmerman likely suffered a broken nose, black eyes and was bleeding from the back of head . His lawyer, Mark O’Mara, said he may seek a dismissal of the second-degree murder charge against his client under Florida’s “stand your ground” law. Zimmerman pleaded not guilty last week and is free on bond.

Justice For Trayvon: FBI May Charge George Zimmerman With Hate Crime, Could Face The Death Penalty

Justice is going to get you George. The State of Florida has charged George Zimmerman with murdering Trayvon Martin. But that might not be the end of his legal problems: According to WFTV, an affliate of ABC in Orlando, Zimmerman may soon be charged with a hate crime by the FBI: WFTV has learned charges against George Zimmerman could be getting more serious. State prosecutors said Zimmerman, a neighborhood watchman, profiled and stalked 17-year-old Trayvon Martin before killing him, so the FBI is now looking into charging him with a hate crime. FBI investigators are actively questioning witnesses in the retreat at the Twin Lakes neighborhood, seeking evidence for a possible federal hate crime charge. WFTV notes that “if Zimmerman is charged and found guilty of a federal hate crime involving murder, he could face the death penalty.” FBI officials confirm to ABC News that the investigation is ongoing but say the “hammer won’t be dropped” anytime soon. Most of the evidence against Zimmerman has yet to be disclosed. Late yesterday, Florida prosecution delivered 67 CDs of evidence against Zimmerman to his attorney. Under Florida law, most of it should be available to the public soon. Some people believe if Zimmerman is found guilty, life in prison seems right. But the death penalty only magnifies heinous crimes by killing again. George Zimmerman Raises $200K For Legal Defense

George Zimmerman, the former neighborhood watch volunteer accused of murdering Trayvon Martin, has raised at least $200,000 online to fund his defense. Donors contributed “just over $200,000” on a website to help pay for the defense of Zimmerman, who was released on bail earlier this week, his lawyer said. Mark O’Mara added that the site, therealgeorgezimmerman (dot) com, has since been shut down for unknown reasons and Zimmerman remains in hiding. Zimmerman is living in an undisclosed location as he awaits trial on charges of second-degree murder in the February shooting death of Trayvon Martin. The killing, which took place as Martin walked unarmed through a gated community in the central Florida town of Sanford, has gained national attention. Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty and says he killed Martin in self defense. In a stunning move, he apologized to Martin’s family at his bail hearing. The sensational case has prompted civil rights protests and a national debate over guns, self-defense laws, racial profiling and media bias in America. O’Mara told CNN that he would inform the judge in the case of the funds he has raised on Friday. No date has been set for his official arraignment.

Bill Cosby on Trayvon Martin Case: Blame Gun Ownership

Bill Cosby has weighed in on the Trayvon Martin case, but NOT on the subject of race. The famed comedian told the Washington Times that firearms in the wrong hands are the problem, and that neighborhood watch volunteers like George Zimmerman, who shot and killed the unarmed teen, should not be allowed to carry guns. “We’ve got to get the gun out of the hands of people who are supposed to be on neighborhood watch,” Cosby said in his first public remarks about the case. “Without a gun, I don’t see Mr. Zimmerman approaching Trayvon by himself,” Cosby added . “The power-of-the-gun mentality had this man feeling unafraid to confront someone. Even police call for backup in similar situations. “When you carry a gun, you mean to harm somebody, kill somebody.” The Cosby Show star’s remarks were immediately circulated on the Web, including some sites that take issue with Cosby’s pinpointing a gun as the problem. The 74-year-old steered clear of mentioning race in a case that has sparked allegations of racial profiling and a nationwide debate over self-defense laws. Prosecutors charged Zimmerman with murder last week after police initially did not arrest him following the February 26 shooting death of Martin. The Trayvon Martin case became a national obsession shortly thereafter, with the public calling for justice and questioning Florida’s Stand Your Ground law. Screenwriter Joe Eszterhas, who was collaborating with Mel Gibson on his ill-fated film The Maccabees before claiming in a letter Mel Gibson hates Jews , says he’s got proof that he witnessed the latest rage-filled rants from the troubled star. His teenage son secretly recorded much of it, Eszterhas says. “A lot of the stuff is on tape,” he tells TMZ. What stuff? He says the recordings were made in Costa Rica by his son Nick, though he would not say if the following alleged comments by Mel were captured: “I want to f**k her in the ass and stab her while I’m doing it.” – on his ex-girlfriend and former hate-filled rant target Oksana Grigorieva “He’s a c**t Jewboy.” – on William Morris/Endeavor Chairman Ari Emanuel “I’m glad he’s dead. He deserved to be shot.” – on John Lennon In the letter to Mel written after The Maccabees fell apart, Joe wrote that his son recorded Me on his iPhone, but did not say how much, other than “a lot.” Joe also says people who allegedly witnessed Mel’s rants are willing to come forward. As for The Maccabees script that Warner Bros. rejected, Joe said: “I’m heartbroken. I put my heart and soul into a script for someone who hates Jews. He needs help. Badly.”
