(Photo Credit: PR Photos) Georgia voters received a racist robocall targeting the state’s Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams , according to a report by CNN . The call features a voice impersonating Oprah Winfrey , who appeared on the campaign trail Thursday (Nov. 1) in support of Abrams. In about a 60-second pre-recorded message, racist and anti-Semitic rhetoric is used to mock the media titan and attack Abrams. The message was created by a white supremacist group called The Road to Power, CNN reported. The group is known for anti-Semitic video podcasts. It previously attacked Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum after he won the nomination in the August primary and again in October. According to the report, it is unknown how many voters received this call. G eorgia’s Democratic nominee for governor Stacey Abrams dismissed her GOP rival Brian Kemp ’s latest maneuver as a “desperate” attempt to distract voters. SEE ALSO: Stacey Abrams’ Unapologetically Black Journey To The Doorstep Of History Appearing Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union with Jake Tapper,” the host Jake Tapper informed Abrams that Kemp, who’s also Georgia secretary of state, opened an investigation of the Georgia Democratic Party into possible cybercrimes. Kemp reportedly alleges that state Democrats may have hacked into Georgia’s voter registration system. “This is a desperate attempt on the part of my opponent to distract people from the fact that two different federal judges found him derelict in his duty and forced him to allow absentee ballots to be counted,” she said after hearing about Kemp’s allegations for the first time. Abrams could make history on Tuesday as the nation’s first African-American woman governor. Kemp, who oversees the state’s election system, has tried to use every trick in the book to suppress the Black vote for the 2018 election. Former President Jimmy Carter asked Kemp to recuse him to ensure a fair election . But Kemp continues to decline. A separate court upheld those two decisions on Friday . Meanwhile, a white supremacist group is suspected of sending out racist robocalls to an unknown number of Georgia voters, the Associated Press reported on Saturday. The automated calls reportedly included impersonations of Oprah Winfrey , who led a rally on Thursday for Abrams. An Idaho man named Scott Rhodes is believed to be behind the calls through his organization The Road to Power, which is also linked to racist robocalls targeting Tallahassee’s African-American Mayor Andrew Gillum who’s running for governor of Florida. The calls came days after President Donald Trump , who endorsed Kemp, called Abrams unqualified to be governor . “He’s wrong,” Abrams told CNN on Sunday, pointing to her academic and work background. Abrams noted that she was the Democratic leader in the Georgia House of Representative for seven years, a deputy city attorney and a successful businesswoman. “I think they are seeing the same numbers we’re seeing. Early voting is up dramatically,” Abrams stated. “We have a plan in place for remarkable turnout on Election Day…and I think they’re (Kemp and Trump) getting scared.” SEE ALSO: Mayor Andrew Gillum Temporarily Suspends Campaign After Shooting In Tallahassee Can Oprah Winfrey Help Stacey Abrams Win Georgia? Source: gradyreese / Getty Having a sister is one of the coolest, most dramatic, loving, emotionally taxing experiences you can have in this life time. Having a sister is like having a built-in best friend, if you get along with them. Whether you’re sisters by blood, through marriage, sorority or friends who call themselves sisters, the bond is unlike any other human relationship. Even on the grander scheme of life, women are starting to band together more as a larger sisterhood, standing together against forces that try to tear us down —i.e. the male dominated government, entertainment industry, workforce, etc. Unity is key when it comes to sisterhood. Just ask Oprah who stressed the importance of sisterhood in her campaign speech for Georgia Democratic candidate Stacey Abrams . She proclaimed, “Only when we unite as sisters – and I don’t just mean ‘sistas’ – I mean sisters – black sisters, brown sisters, white sisters, Asian sisters, LGBTQ sisters. When we all unite, I know for sure a change is going to come.” Tyler Perry tapped into the unbreakable bond of sisterhood with his latest film Nobody’s Fool starring Tika Sumpter and Tiffany Haddish as siblings with totally opposite morals, values and goals in life. Tiffany revealed to Bustle what it was like working with Tika, saying, “I feel like we knew each other in a past life, and we finally met up in this life, and we making money now girl! Because we was poor in the other life,” Haddish says. Sumpter laughs, and adds, “We was stomping roaches together.” Don’t get us wrong — there are some downsides to having sisters that people without siblings can’t relate too. Like constantly being compared to them, the fights can get pretty catty and not to mention they steal your clothes. @WeeGeeFiji from Twitter tweeted, “The best thing about having 3 younger sisters is that we get to share everything from clothes to makeup which tbh is also the worst thing about having 3 sisters.” But the pros of being apart of a sisterhood can outweigh the bad. In the words of Cali Rae Turner, “The best thing about having a sister was that I always had a friend.” Facts, Cali! Be sure to check out Nobody’s Fool hitting theaters this weekend, and hit the flip for more films that you and your sister should watch together.
V oting rights advocates were dealt several huge victories on Friday when courts rejected blatant attempts at suppressing mostly people of color from being able to cast ballots on Election Day. The rulings mean that thousands of people who had previously been deemed ineligible voters will now be able to register and go to the polls on Tuesday. In one key ruling on an obvious case of gerrymandering — or redrawing municipal boundaries along racial and political lines in order to impact elections — the North Carolina General Court of Justice, Superior Court Division decided in an injunction that “four districts in the North Carolina House of Representatives (Districts 36, 37, 40 and 41) violate the prohibition in the North Carolina Constitution on mid-decade redistricting,” the NAACP wrote in a press release. The NAACP has launched a number of similar lawsuits across the country trying to prevent voter suppression from taking place. “This is an important victory for the NAACP as we fight to ensure that communities of color have a full opportunity to elect representatives who will protect their interests in state legislatures across the country” Bradford M. Berry, NAACP General Counsel, said. The NAACP also teamed up with the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law to win an injunction against voting technology that prevented 53,000 mostly African-American residents from registering to vote in Georgia. The ruling against the software, called Exact Match, “will directly affect about 3,100 applications,” the NAACP said. Also in Georgia, where Stacey Abrams was vying to become the nation’s first Black woman governor, a judge granted an injunction that could allow about 3,000 people previously denied voter registration over citizenship questions the ability to vote. The case was centered on new U.S. citizens. The case was a direct referendum on Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp , who, in a clear conflict of interest, was overseeing the election while he’s waging his own political campaign for governor against Abrams. BREAKING: We won! We have fully defeated Brian Kemp in our exact match lawsuit securing ALL relief we sought for voters. We’ll keep fighting to beat back voter suppression in #Midterms2018 . @LawyersComm pic.twitter.com/MZ7Kf1JZsc — Kristen Clarke 866-OUR-VOTE (@KristenClarkeJD) November 2, 2018 That ruling followed one on Tuesday rejecting Kemp’s instructions to all local election officials to deny absentee ballots over signatures. Of course, there were still voter suppression efforts hard at play, even as the two rulings were handed down Friday. From the president’s new racist ad to voter intimidation tactics to the more than 50,000 people still fighting to register to vote in Georgia, there was still much work to be done for voting rights advocates. Friday’s rulings were a brief respite from that harsh reality. “From the time of Reconstruction and beforehand, opponents of a true democracy have attempted to silence and suppress Black political power, and each time we’ve stood strong and fought back – today is one of those times,” NAACP North Carolina State President Rev. Dr. T. Anthony Spearman said in a statement. “We are committed to this fight of making democracy real for all of us and stand ready to do battle against those who seek to shrink this ideal.” SEE ALSO: The Power Of The Black Vote And How To Make Each One Count Vote Suppressor Brian Kemp Runs Away From Second Debate Against Stacey Abrams [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3834782″ overlay=”true”]

Image via John Bazemore-Pool/Getty Images Georgia NAACP Says Voting Machines Are Incorrectly Registering Votes The great American wordsmith Tupac Shakur once warned us to “keep your eyes on your riches”, and never has such sage advice been more applicable than in the case of the valuable gubernatorial votes that have been cast early for Stacey Abrams. According to USAToday , the Georgia chapter of the NAACP has filed a complaint with the shady Secretary Of State, and Stacey Abrams opponent (no conflict of interest there…), Brian Kemp, stating that there are malfunctioning voting machines that are logging votes for Abrams as votes for Kemp. *side-eye* The complaint details failure of machines in both Bartow and Dodge counties to correctly register the votes that people have cast. “We’ve experienced this before,” said Phyllis Blake, president of the Georgia NAACP. “They ended up taking these old dilapidated machines out of service. The ones giving the problems. They should have been replaced about 10 years ago.” This suspicious situation is just another reason to distrust Brian Kemp amidst previous charges that the Secretary of State is suppressing the vote of over 53,000 people who are likely to vote for Stacey Abrams. “If warranted, our office will open a formal investigation on behalf of the State Election Board,” Candice Broce, a spokeswoman, said in an email. “We always encourage voters to reach out to our office if they experience any issues or witness any suspicious activity at the polls.” You have to see how important it is to vote. So many people believe that voting doesn’t matter and this story should serve as the most damning evidence to the contrary. If the votes don’t matter then why are people like Brian Kemp so concerned about turnout and why is he working so hard to keep people away from the polls? “Vote for @staceyabrams , that’s a win, win, win, win!” #TeamAbrams is fired up. We’re energized. We’re mobilized. Image via Jessica McGowan/Getty Images Brian Kemp Talks Absentee Ballots In Leaked Audio If you’ve been paying attention to what’s happening in the upcoming midterm election, you know that Georgia’s incumbent Secretary of State Brian Kemp has been under HEAVY scrutiny for his seemingly shady practice of suppressing the vote for over 53,000 people, 70% of which are African-American. As Secretary of State Kemp is responsible for running the elections and that potential conflict of interest has raised LOTS of eyebrows not only in Georgia but nationwide. According to Rolling Stone , those suspicions have only been heightened with the leak of an audio recording of Kemp making some dubious comments about his opponent Stacey Abrams’ ability to garner support via absentee ballots. “They have just an unprecedented number of that,” he said, “which is something that continues to concern us, especially if everybody uses and exercises their right to vote — which they absolutely can — and mail those ballots in, we gotta have heavy turnout to offset that.” Peep what else Kemp had to say below.
