DeAnna Pappas: Engaged to Stephen Stagliano, Planning Shotgun Wedding?

Former star of The Bachelorette DeAnna Pappas is not only engaged to Stephen Stagliano, a former contestant on the show, the pair are planning to wed soon. Like really soon. DeAnna and Stephen, who pined for Jillian Harris on her season The Bachelorette , were fixed up by his brother, Michael Stagliano, and his girlfriend Holly Durst. Holly was let go by Matt Grant when she was a contestant on The Bachelor , and also dated Jesse Csincsak, who got engaged to DeAnna on her season finale. We know, it’s really confusing. Bachelorette castoff Stephen Stagliano, left, is reportedly ready to marry DeAnna Pappas. She was previously engaged to Jesse Csincsak, but that didn’t last very long . As for DeAnna Pappas and Stephen Stagliano’s wedding, it’s supposedly imminent, although specifics aren’t exactly available, courtesy of anonymous sources. Take it with a grain of salt is all we’re saying. Hopefully, hosting her Lifetime series Get Married , where she offers wedding advice and tips to brides-to-be, will help prepare DeAnna for her own big day. Yes, DeAnna Pappas hosts a show about weddings, despite two failed attempts at marriage proposals on national TV … is this a great country or what?! The lovely D is currently back home in Georgia where plans for the quickie wedding “is all they’re talking about .” Congratulations if this is in any way true!

Oops: Lib Columnist Bemoans Non-existent ‘All-white’ Senate

On Thursday, National Newspaper Publishers Association columnist Julianne Malveaux wrote that Marco Rubio, along with two Asian-American Senators, one Hispanic Senator, and two black Senate candidates are all in fact white men. Malveaux, also the president of Bennett College, decried the travails of Kendrick Meek, the black Democrat vying for his party’s nomination for US Senate in Florida. “If Meek can’t pull this one off,” Malveaux wrote, “the United States Senate will become, again, a segregated body.” She also used the terms “lily-white” and “all-white” to describe the racial makeup of a Meek-less Senate. Readers must be forgiven for their confusion, given that another candidate for Senate in Florida, Marco Rubio, is not white, but Hispanic. In fact, excluding Roland Burriss, Illinois’s lame duck Senator, the Senate has three non-white members: Daniel Inouye and Daniel Akaka of Hawaii are both of Asian descent, and Robert Menendez is of Hispanic descent. There are also black Senate candidates beyond Meek: Alvin Greene in South Carolina, and the less-known but infinitely more qualified Georgia Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond. How to explain Malveaux’s bizarre contention? Your guess is as good as ours.

Big Boi ‘Tinkering’ With Music For Next Outkast, Solo LPs

‘Whether I’m on the road touring or on the bus … just putting ideas down,’ the Atlanta MC tells MTV News. By Jayson Rodriguez Big Boi Photo: MTV News Big Boi finally delivered his long-awaited solo album, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, this week. But after taking three years to deliver the LP, is it safe for fans to assume Big’s next effort is just around the corner? Not exactly. The slick Atlanta MC says he’s started work on a follow up, Daddy Fat Sax, but between promoting his current collection and juggling a handful of projects — his next set, partner Andre 3000’s solo disc and another Outkast album — Big Boi is juggling a lot right now or, as he put it, “tinkering.” “I got about four, five songs that I’m tinkering with right now,” Big Boi told MTV News about Daddy Fat Sax, tentatively slated for a late-2011 release. “But at the same time, there’s a couple of records that we picked out for the Outkast record too. So while Dre is working on his records, we’re kinda, with Organized Noise, seeing what’s gonna go for the ‘Kast album. And at the same time, with the beats I already got, I’m just making the most out of my time, whether I’m on the road touring or just on the bus or whatever; just putting ideas down.” The Georgia rapper said this album showcases his sometimes-overlooked gifts as a solo artist (“I’m a master of my craft.”). Big Boi’s Sir Lucious Left Foot features collaborations with T.I., Gucci Mane and Janelle Monae, among others. Andre 3000, Lil Jon and Scott Storch provide production assistance on the set, and the Storch-produced lead single, “Shutterbugg,” has been getting rave reviews. Big’s recently dropped the video for his sophomore single, “Follow Us.” The July 6 album was a labor of love for the Outkast MC. Originally slated for release three years ago on Jive, where the duo is signed to as a group, Sir Lucious Left Foot got a new home after disagreements with his Outkast label led Big Boi to jump ship and ink a solo deal with Def Jam. “With this album right here, there was just a lot of label politics in the background that kinda fueled my fire,” Big Boi said of enduring multiple delays. “You not gonna tell me what I’m doing isn’t jamming. I know this is some of the best music I’m making in my whole life; I’m putting everything into it. I’m spending time away my family, my wife and my kids to record for three years and you don’t respect my craft? That kind of fueled everything.” What do you think of Big Boi’s solo album? Danger of Tsunamis From Trapped Gigantic Methane Bubble In The Gulf Of Mexico.

A new and less well known asymmetric threat has surfaced in the Gulf of Mexico oil gusher. Methane or CH4 gas is being released in vast quantities in the Gulf waters. Seismic data shows huge pools of methane gas at the location immediately below and around the damaged “Macondo” oil well. Methane is a colorless, odorless and highly flammable substance which forms a major component in natural gas. This is the same gas that blew the top off Deep water Horizon and killed 11 people. The “flow team” of the US Geological Survey estimates that 2,900 cubic feet of natural gas, which primarily contains methane, is being released into the Gulf waters with every barrel of oil. The constant flow of over 50,000 barrels of crude oil places the total daily amount of natural gas at over 145 million cubic feet. So far, over 8 billion cubic feet may have been released, making it one of the most vigorous methane eruptions in modern human history. If the estimates of 100,000 barrels a day — that have emerged from a BP internal document — are true, then the estimates for methane gas release might have to be doubled. Methane and Poison Gas Bubble The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has found high concentrations of gases in the Gulf of Mexico area. The escape of other poisonous gases associated with an underground methane bubble — such as hydrogen sulfide, benzene and methylene chloride — have also been found. Recently, the EPA measured hydrogen sulfide at more than 1,000 parts per billion (ppb) — well above the normal 5 to 10 ppb. Some benzene levels were measured near the Gulf of Mexico in the range of 3,000 to 4,000 ppb — up from the normal 0 to 4 ppb. Benzene gas is water soluble and is a carcinogen at levels of 1,000 ppb according to the EPA. Upon using a GPS and depth finder system, experts have discovered a large gas bubble, 15 to 20 miles wide and tens of feet high, under the ocean floor. These bubbles are common. Some even believe that the rapid release of similar bubbles may have caused the sinking of ships and planes in the Bermuda Triangle. 50,000 to 100,000 PSI The intractable problem is that this methane, located deep in the bowels of the earth, is under tremendous pressure. Experts agree that the pressure that blows the oil into the Gulf waters is estimated to be between 30,000 and 70,000 pounds per square inch (psi). Some speculate that the pressure of the methane at the base of the well head, deep under the ocean floor, may be as high as 100,000 psi — far too much for current technology to contain. The shutoff valves and safety measures were only built for thousands of psi at best. There is no known device to cap a well with such an ultra high pressure. Oxygen Depletion The crude oil from the “Macondo” well, which is damaging the Gulf of Mexico, contains around 40 percent methane, compared with about 5 percent found in typical oil deposits. Scientists warn that gases such as methane, hydrogen sulfide and benzene, along with oil, are now depleting the oxygen in the water and are beginning to suffocate marine life creating vast “dead zones”. As small microbes living in the sea feed on oil and natural gas, they consume large amounts of oxygen which they require in order to digest food, ie, convert it into energy. There is an environmental ripple effect: when oxygen levels decrease, the breakdown of oil can't advance any further. Fissures or Cracks According to geologists, the first signs that the methane may burst its way through the bottom of the ocean would be manifest via fissures or cracks appearing on the ocean floor near the path of least resistance, ie, the damaged well head. Evidence of fissures opening up on the seabed have been captured by the robotic midget submarines working to repair and contain the ruptured well. Smaller, independent plumes have also appeared outside the nearby radius of the bore hole. When reviewing video tapes of the live BP feeds, one can see in the tapes of mid-June that there is oil spewing up from visible fissions. Geologists are pointing to new fissures and cracks that are appearing on the ocean floor. Fault Areas The stretching and compression of the earth's crust causes minor cracking, called faults, and the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico has many such fault areas. Fault areas run along the Gulf of Mexico and well inland in Mexico, South and East Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and the extreme western Florida Panhandle. The close coupling of new fissures and cracks with natural fault areas could prove to be lethal. Bubble Eruption A methane bubble this large — if able to escape from under the ocean floor through fissures, cracks and fault areas — is likely to cause a gas explosion. With the emerging evidence of fissures, the tacit fear now is this: the methane bubble may rupture the seabed and may then erupt with an explosion within the Gulf of Mexico waters. The bubble is likely to explode upwards propelled by more than 50,000 psi of pressure, bursting through the cracks and fissures of the sea floor, fracturing and rupturing miles of ocean bottom with a single extreme explosion. Cascading Catastrophe Scenarios 1. Loss of Buoyancy Huge methane gas bubbles under a ship can cause a sudden buoyancy loss. This causes a ship to tilt adversely or worse. Every ship, drilling rig and structure within a ten mile radius of the escaping methane bubble would have to deal with a rapid change in buoyancy, causing many oil structures in its vicinity to become unstable and ships to sink. The lives of all the workers, engineers, coast guard personnel and marine biologists — measuring and mitigating the oil plumes' advance and assisting with the clean up — could be in some danger. Therefore, advanced safety measures should be put in place. 2. First Tsunami with Toxic Cloud If the toxic gas bubble explodes, it might simultaneously set off a tsunami traveling at a high speed of hundreds of miles per hour. Florida might be most exposed to the fury of a tsunami wave. The entire Gulf coastline would be vulnerable, if the tsunami is manifest. Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and southern region of Georgia might experience the effects of the tsunami according to some sources. 3. Second Tsunami via Vaporization After several billion barrels of oil and billions of cubic feet of gas have been released, the massive cavity beneath the ocean floor will begin to normalize, allowing freezing water to be forced naturally into the huge cavity where the oil and gas once were. The temperature in that cavity can be extremely hot at around 150 degrees Celsius or more. The incoming water will be vaporized and turned into steam, creating an enormous force, which could actually lift the Gulf floor. According to computer models, a second massive tsunami wave might occur. added by: keithponder

Gulf Oil Spill Update: Just the Facts

“How much oil is still gushing? No one knows exactly how much oil is escaping BP's oil collection system (series of pipes drawing oil from leak to surface ships) and entering Gulf waters. Government estimates peg the leak at 35,000 to 60,000 barrels per day, which translates to between 1.5 million and 2.5 million gallons. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)'s nearshore trajectory predictions for the spill show it hovering off the Gulf Coast as far west as the Rockefeller State Wildlife Preserve and Game Refuge in the western part of Louisiana. The oil slick stretches as far east as Port St. Joe in northwestern Florida. NOAA is no longer forecasting the movement of oil out at sea, but the slick is not currently expected to enter the Loop Current, which could draw it around the Florida Peninsula and into the greater Atlantic. However, giant plumes of oil and gas are still present thousands of feet below the surface of the Gulf. The plumes are made of a mixture of oil, gas and seawater. They've been spotted radiating out from the blown well in all directions, University of Georgia marine scientist Samantha Joye said at a June 22 media briefing. The southwest plume has been traced over 20 miles from the well, while another plume extends more than 30 miles (48 kilometers) to the Northeast. The plumes are rich in methane gas, which is an energy source for some undersea microbes. These microbes seem to be noshing on the methane and multiplying, depleting the oxygen in the water column. In the long run, Joye said, that oxygen deprivation could affect the Gulf ecosystem by harming populations of plankton, the base of the oceanic food chain. (READ THAT LAST SENTENCE AGAIN!) How many animals have been affected by the spill? Gulf wildlife is still facing fallout from the oil spill. According to NOAA, 583 sea turtles were stranded in the oil spill area between April 30 and June 28. Of those, 432 were found dead and four died after being rescued. A total of 136 turtles are currently in rehabilitation centers, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is coordinating an effort to remove up to 70,000 turtle eggs from at-risk beaches. [Animals affected by oil spill] In the same April-to-June time period, 55 dolphins were found stranded in the oil spill area. Only two survived. While cause of death has not been determined, dolphin strandings are up this year, according to NOAA. According to U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and NOAA numbers, 1,185 visibly oiled birds had been pulled from Gulf waters and beaches as of June 29. More than 300 of those were found dead, as were another 829 without external evidence of oil. ” More at link! http://www.livescience.com/environment/gulf-oil-spill-update-100702.html added by: DeliaTheArtist

Policing Free Speech / Political Spying: ACLU Review

Welcome to the surveillance society That’s what the American Civil Liberties Union concluded Tuesday with a report chronicling government spying and the detention of groups and individuals “for doing little more than peacefully exercising their First Amendment rights.” The report, Policing Free Speech: Police Surveillance and Obstruction of First Amendment-Protected Activity (.pdf), http://www.aclu.org/files/assets/Spyfiles_2_0.pdf surveys news accounts and studies of questionable snooping and arrests in 33 states and the District of Columbia over the past decade. The survey provides an outline of, and links to, dozens of examples of Cold War-era snooping in the modern age. “Our review of these practices has found that Americans have been put under surveillance or harassed by the police just for deciding to organize, march, protest, espouse unusual viewpoints and engage in normal, innocuous behaviors such as writing notes or taking photographs in public,” Michael German, an ACLU attorney and former Federal Bureau of Investigation agent, said in a statement. Here are a few examples: At a California State University, Fresno lecture on veganism, six of the 60 in attendance were undercover officers from the local and campus police. The Oakland Police Department in California had infiltrated a police-brutality demonstration, and its undercover officers selected “the route of the march.” A vegetarian activist in Georgia was arrested for jotting down the license plate of a Department of Homeland Security agent who was snapping photos of a protest outside a Honey Baked Ham store. A Joint Terrorism Task Force in Illinois went on a three-day manhunt in Chicago searching for a Muslim man for his suspicious activity of using a hand counter on a bus. As it turned out, the man was counting his daily prayers. A Kentucky minister was detained at Canadian border trying to enter the United States because he had purchased copies of the Koran on the internet following the 2001 terror attacks. A New York, Muslim-American student journalist was detained for taking pictures of Old Glory outside a Veterans Affairs building as part of a class project. The authorities deleted the pictures before releasing her an hour later. added by: Stoneyroad

Racist Democratic Senator and former KKK member , Robert Byrd, dead at 92

“I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side… Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds” —Senator Robert Byrd — (D-WV) Robert Byrd was indeed a valuable link not only to the Senate's past, but also to the Democratic Party's history as the party of slavery, segregation, and opposition to equal treatment of blacks. Stolberg obviously loved Byrd's cornpone constitutional shtick in favor of filibustering a Republican president's judicial appointees. It's a shame that Stolberg exerted no effort to put Byrd's shtick in the context it merited. Byrd was old enough, for example, to have vowed memorably regarding the integration of the Armed Forces by President Truman that he would never fight “with a Negro by my side. Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.” Even after his resignation from the Klan, Byrd continued to hold it in high esteem, writing to the Klan's Imperial Wizard in 1946: “The Klan is needed today as never before and I am anxious to see its rebirth here in West Virginia.” And Byrd was old enough to have participated in filibustering the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as well as to have voted against it after cloture along with 18 other Democrats — in the name of the Constitution, of course. Funny Stolberg didn't invite Byrd to take a walk down memory lane on that subject. It would have been highly illuminating. In Stolberg's Times profile Byrd cited the late Georgia Senator Richard Russell as his mentor and quoted the advice Russell gave him regarding the ways of the Senate. Russell was a wise man in many ways, but he was also one of the signers of the infamous 1956 Southern Manifesto opposing Brown v. Board of Education — in the name of the Constitution, of course. Also signing the Southern Manifesto was the late Senator Sam Ervin of North Carolina. Like Byrd, Ervin was resurrected as a heroic cornpone constitutionalist in the eyes of the mainstream media. Ervin was born again during his chairmanship of the Senate Watergate Committee in 1973. As with Senator Byrd, all was forgiven and forgotten when he became useful to the message of the day propounded by the mainstream media. Stolberg's 2005 profile of Byrd in the Times was accompanied by the photo of Byrd (left) with the caption: “Senator Robert C. Byrd, after speaking at a MoveOn.org rally last month in Washington, defending the use of the filibuster to block judicial nominees.” Only a fellow as supremely lacking in self-awareness as Senator Byrd could have missed the inadvertent allusion to the black power salute of the late 1960's in Byrd's gesture depicted in the photograph, or to the “right on” salute of the radical left of the same period… Continued at: http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2010/06/026630.php added by: Dagum

Iran Declares State Of War

In a rare move, Iran has declared a state of war on its northwestern border, DEBKAfile's military and Iranian sources report. Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps men and equipment units are being massed in the Caspian Sea region against what Tehran claims are US and Israeli forces concentrated on army and air bases in Azerbaijan ready to strike Iran's nuclear facilities. The announcement came on Tuesday, June 22 from Brig.-Gen Mehdi Moini of the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), commander of the forces tasked with “repelling” this American-Israeli offensive. He said: “The mobilization is due to the presence of American and Israeli forces on the western border,” adding, “Reinforcements are being dispatched to West Azerbaijan Province because some western countries are fueling ethnic conflicts to destabilize the situation in the region.” In the past, Iranian officials have spoken of US and Israel attacks in general terms. DEBKAfile's Iranian sources note that this is the first time that a specific location was mentioned and large reinforcements dispatched to give the threat substance. Other Iranian sources report that in the last few days, Israel has secretly transferred a large number of bomber jets to bases in Azerbaijan, via Georgia, and that American special forces are also concentrated in Azerbaijan in preparation for a strike. http://www.debka.com/article/8868/ added by: ibrake4rappers13
