Twitter can get you fired ! Black Texas Teacher Will Lose Her Job Over Racist Twitter Rant Via Raw Story reports: Vinita Hegwood has admitted she made the post on the social media site during an online debate over the police shooting of an unarmed teen in Ferguson, Missouri, reported KRLD-TV. “Who the f*ck made you dumb duck *ss crackers think I give a squat f*ck about your opinions on my opinions RE: #Ferguson. Kill yourselves!” the English teacher posted Friday on her personal account. It wasn’t clear who or what she was responding to, but her husband told WFAA-TV there was more to her side of the story. Hegwood deleted the post and her account shortly afterward, but copies were preserved with screen capture images. She did not mention the school district or her job as a teacher, and it’s not clear whether any students or parents followed her account. But officials with the Duncanville School District said Hegwood would be suspended without pay until the school board can vote on her termination. “As an individual, Ms. Vinita Hegwood expressed an opinion on social media that is solely her own,” the district said in a statement. “She used her personal media account to make remarks that are offensive. While everyone has the right to free speech, as a teacher in the district, we believe the comments that are alleged to be made by Ms. Hegwood are absolutely reprehensible and we do not condone it.” A spokeswoman for the district said the post was so plainly offensive that Hegwood left the district “no other option” than to fire the teacher, and at least one parent agreed. “I would say she needs to be a fired,” said parent Lydia Flores. “That’s crazy. The kind of work that she’s doing now, she’s all around different kind of kids and stuff.” Do you think the teacher should be fired??

Annie Lennox Says Beyonce Is Not A Feminist Via Gawker reports: On the road to promote her upcoming album Nostalgia, Annie Lennox has tried, it seems, to start something with Beyoncé. Sure, why not? Last month, she called Bey “feminist lite,” and in an interview with NPR’s Steve Inskeep yesterday, she clarified, “twerking is not feminism.” Lennox addressed the overt sexualization of women in music more broadly, explaining, The reason why I’ve commented is because I think that this overt sexuality thrust—literally—at particular audiences, when very often performers have a very, very young audience, like 7 years older, I find it disturbing and I think its exploitative. It’s troubling. I’m coming from a perspective of a woman that’s had children. Which, fine, but Beyoncé isn’t exactly a teen idol . Inskeep pushed Lennox, noting, “Some people will know that you specifically criticized Beyoncé for this the other day.” Lennox responded: “I was being asked about Beyoncé in the context of feminism, and I was thinking at the time about very impactful feminists that have dedicated their lives to the movement of liberating women and supporting women at the grass roots, and I was saying, ‘well that’s one end of the spectrum, and then you have the other end of the spectrum.’” She continued: “Listen, twerking is not feminism. Thats what I’m referring to. It’s not—it’s not liberating, it’s not empowering. It’s a sexual thing that you’re doing on a stage; it doesn’t empower you. That’s my feeling about it.” Beyoncé hasn’t responded, nor will she ever. Feminism is a well-documented legal and philosophical movement. Twerking is a dance but borrows from the idea that women should be able to be sexual creatures. Isn’t liberation what feminism is all about? Do you think Beyonce is a feminist for the modern woman??

West Africa Is Not A Disease: Nigeria Declared Free Of Ebola Virus After Weeks Of No New Victims

Turn up!!!! Nigeria Declared Free Of Ebola Virus Nigeria has been declared officially free of Ebola after six weeks with no new cases, the World Health Organization (WHO) says. Via BBC reports: WHO representative Rui Gama Vaz, speaking in the capital Abuja, said it was a “spectacular success story”. Nigeria won praise for its swift response after a Liberian diplomat brought the disease there in July. The outbreak has killed more than 4,500 people in West Africa, mostly in Liberia, Guinea, and Sierra Leone. An estimated 70% of those infected have died in those countries. The WHO officially declared Senegal Ebola-free on Friday. Meanwhile, European Union foreign ministers are meeting in Luxembourg to discuss how to strengthen their response to the threat posed by Ebola. Speaking on the sidelines, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said he expected the meeting to appoint a co-ordinator to galvanise the EU’s response to the epidemic. “My colleagues are unanimous in saying that this idea of a European co-ordinator for the fight against Ebola is a good idea. The name will be chosen in the coming days. I think it’s a very important step.” European countries have committed more than 500m euros (£400m; $600m) but the UK is pressing to double that amount. Will Ross in Nigeria spoke to a doctor about how to treat the early stages The money is being sought to help reinforce over-stretched healthcare systems in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea and to mitigate the damage Ebola is doing to their economies. Earlier, the Spanish government said a nurse who became the first person to contract Ebola outside West Africa had tested negative for the virus. Now can we work on eradicating Ebola from the rest of the world???

Mom Rips Out Daughter’s Hair For Not Being Able To Count A Pennsylvania, woman is in custody after authorities say she became so irate that her 6-year-old couldn’t count to 12 that she ripped a chunk of hair from her scalp. WPXI reports: A beaver county mother is facing charges after authorities said she abused her daughter by violently pulling her hair. According to the complaint, officers were first alerted to the case on Aug. 31 when hospital officials reported they were treating a 6-year-old for an injury to her head. The complaint said the injury was described as a separation of the victim’s scalp from her skull, also known as traction. This caused a void between the skull and scalp that filled with blood. “The doctors told us there was a separation of the victim from her skull,” Conway police Officer Mike Priolo said. Doctors who treated the girl told police her injuries were most consistent with violent hair pulling, as well as an impact to her left ear. Once officers interviewed the girl’s mother, identified as Brittany Ruck, the complaint states she admitted to pulling her daughter’s hair to get her attention. The complaint said the child told police that her mother wanted her to count to 12, but she couldn’t. “The little girl told us she could only count to 10 because she had 10 fingers, but she couldn’t count any higher. That’s when the mother grabbed her by her hair,” Priolo said. According to the complaint, the girl told police that on a separate occasion, her mother pulled her across the floor into a corner by a hair. “It’s just sad because she didn’t do anything wrong and she had to bear the brunt of pain,” Priolo said. Channel 11 News had learned Ruck has three children, and they’ve been placed with other family members.   SMH…@ the mom previously pulling the daughter across the floor by her hair, she clearly has a history of abuse. Can you blame her ? Phaedra Parks Files For Divorce From Apollo Nida Phaedra Parks is pulling the plug on her marriage to Apollo Nida. Via EOnline reports: The Real Housewives of Atlanta star “has retained an attorney with the intent of amicably ending her marriage,” her rep, Steve Honig, exclusively confirms to E! News in a statement. Last month, Nida checked himself in to prison to begin an eight-year sentence which was issued in July following his guilty plea to bank fraud back in May. This is the second long-term prison stay for Nida, who was incarcerated for six years between 2003 and 2009 for car theft charges. The former couple has two children under the ages of four, sons Dylan and Ayden. The same day that Nida entered prison, Honig issued a statement on Phaedra’s behalf to E! News. Parks “is now putting all of her energy into ensuring the well-being of her two children and making decisions that are in their best interests,” he said. “This situation has put a tremendous strain on Phaedra and her family and she is working hard to bring back a sense of normalcy to everyone’s lives.” Prior to the start of Apollo’s sentence, a source told E! News that he had “been out partying every single night” adding that Nida has “made things very uncomfortable” for the Bravo star. “When he does speak to Phaedra, it’s always about money,” the source said. “He owes a huge debt in restitution and he wants to know if she’s going to help him with it. ‘Are you going to give me money?’ is always his question. He still wants her financial support.” Back in July, an insider exclusively revealed to E! News that the pair’s marriage was in serious jeopardy. “Phaedra and Apollo’s marriage is on very shaky ground right now,” a source told E! News. “Phaedra is trying to keep everything contained and protect her kids.” Meanwhile, following Apollo’s eight-year sentencing, his attorney Thomas D. Bever told E! News, “On behalf of my client Apollo, right now he feels remorse. He thought the judge was fair, and accepts his sentence, although he was hoping it would be less. Apollo is elated that this proceeding is past him and is no longer handing over his head. It meant everything to him that his mother and brother spoke on his behalf. He’s OK, and will get through this.” Phaedra recently posted a picture of a Biblr scripture days before filing for divorce from dirty dog Apollo: The reality star has also been spotted on the scene getting close to Kenny Lattimore at a recent book signing: It was only a matter of time before Phaedra pulled the plug on her shady marriage. Why aren’t Black men keeping up academically?? Black Men Are Less Likely To Graduate From A Four-Year College Via Black Journal reports: The federal government should require all colleges to create early-alert systems that flag students with low test scores, missing assignments, or spotty attendance. That would be one way, according to a report released on Tuesday, to curb the alarming number of minority men who drop out of college . The report, “ Advancing the Success of Boys and Men of Color in Education ,” is the result of brainstorming by diversity researchers at seven higher-education institutions. It is aimed at building on the momentum of My Brother’s Keeper, the Obama administration’s effort to improve education and career outcomes for young minority men. Black men lag behind their peers in other races when it comes to graduating from both two- and four-year colleges, according to federal statistics that track their completion through 2009 and 2012, respectively. Only a third of black male students graduated from four-year colleges within six years, compared with 45 percent of Hispanic men, 57 percent of white men, and 64 percent of Asian men. For two-year colleges, the percentages who received a certificate or degree or who transferred to a four-year college over six years were 32 for black, 30 for Latino, 40 for white, and 43 for Asian men. But minority men aren’t the only ones who would benefit from the changes the group is proposing. “We tried to provide recommendations that get at issues for boys and men of color but also address equity gaps for other disadvantaged groups,” J. Luke Wood, co-director of the Minority Male Community College Collaborative at San Diego State University, said in an interview. His center was joined in the report by similar groups at Morehouse College, Ohio State University, the University of California at Los Angeles, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
