Tiger Woods to Rachel Uchitel: Silence or Else!

Tiger Woods’ people recently reached out to his former mistress Rachel Uchitel , but it wasn’t to schedule any late-night, Ambien-fueled sex romps this time. Despite recent rumors, Rachel and Tiger are not getting married, and Rachel isn’t pregnant with Woods’ love child. Devon James already worked that angle. The two haven’t spoken to each other in months, but his attorneys contacted her because they were concerned about her going on VH1’s Celebrity Rehab . Since she’s famous for doing Tiger Woods (sorry David Boreanaz), they were understandably concerned she’d talk about it on the show, which she can’t. Tiger Woods can rest easy. Rachel Uchitel didn’t talk about him . Woods’ attorneys called to ensure Tiger was not mentioned even once, which she is not allowed to under the terms of that $10 million confidentiality deal. Production sources connected with Celebrity Rehab say Rachel Uchitel never uttered a certain golfing great’s name, and was a standout among the group! “She made a very poignant speech [ at the graduation ], and she has probably progressed the most among the group,” says a source close to the show. “Even though she briefly left the show , when she came back, Rachel was more focused, and realized the work that she needed to do on herself.” That’s what it’s all about, right?

Levi Johnston and Bristol Palin: No Sex Until Marriage!

Most of the time, when a couple vows to remain abstinent until marriage, the guy hasn’t already knocked up the girl, broken up with her, trashed her mom in the media, posed nude in Playgirl, then rekindled the romance during custody negotiations. But hey, whatever works for Levi Johnston and Bristol Palin ! America’s favorite unwed, single teen mom and her once-estranged baby daddy surprised us by getting back together last month, then flat-out floored us with news that they are now engaged, and planning on tying the knot soon. Like real soon. By the end of August! Levi and Bristol say they hope to get married in the next six weeks, and due to her abstinence pledge , won’t be having sex again until after they say “I do.” No word if there will be protection involved at that time, or if they simply don’t believe in that. Tripp is really cute, he’d probably be an awesome big brother. The best part, aside from the abstinence thing, is that they say they didn’t tell her mom, Republican political heavyweight Sarah Palin, about the engagement. Instead, they told Us Weekly, who broke the story earlier this morning, hoping that it was one of the “variety of sources” the former Alaska Governor reads. As for the wedding, they’ll be getting married in Alaska , natch. According to sources, she wants Levi to wear a camouflage vest, too. That may not be a joke. Regarding those nude Playgirl photos that sparked so much controversy … Bristol Palin claims she hasn’t seen them and chalks it up to “Levi’s old life.” It ran in February. Just saying.

‘Early Show’ Panelists on Marriage: ‘Who Wants to Sign up for That?’

Apparently unmarried men don’t have to bother ‘putting a ring on it’ anymore. A CBS’ “Early Show” panel on June 23 made marriage look like an obsolete tradition by  highlighting several couples who’ve cohabited for years-with little or no intentions of ever saying “I do.” CBS co-host Erica Hill cited statistics showing a record-high 6.4 million couples currently cohabitate in the United States. “This is a cautious generation,” Seligson explained to Hill. “They want to get it right, and they want to make sure that this is the person with whom they can spend the next 60 or 70 years.” “Early Show” guest panelists Dr. Robi Ludwig of Care.com and Brian Balthazar of Popgoestheweek.com supported this shift in cultural attitude. Balthazar pointed out that to many individuals, particularly those whose families have experienced divorce, marriage has a less-than-sparkly image. “They say, why do I want to put myself through that?” Balthazar explained. “If I love my partner, why do I feed a piece of paper and spend a lot of money?” He credited the trend to an “instant update society. I don’t know what I’m having for dinner tomorrow let alone a week. People stayed at the same job for 20 years. Now that never happens. People are thinking, marriage forever? The vows are honor and obey? Who wants to sign up for that?” Ludwig said cohabitation provides a way to experiment with marriage without the burden of commitment. “Living together really always gives the person the option to get out,” she said. “And also it’s like a trial for marriage. So you’re trying out to be a husband, you’re trying out to be a wife. Most of the time it’s a wife trying out, like, ‘Do you want me to be your wife?’ Balthazar called cohabitation “a great test run.” He cited comedian Groucho Marx, who is credited with saying, “Marriage is a good institution. But who want to live in an institution?” Despite the guest panelists’ efforts to characterize marriage as antiquated, Hill never mentioned the ways that marriage benefits both the couple and their children. Hill also never mentioned the numerous studies compiled by groups like The Heritage Foundation and Focus on the Family and  that indicate the damaging results that cohabitation has on marriage (for couples who eventually plan on getting married), or the effect that this non-committal take on relationships can have on children reared in homes lacking the structure of marriage. This isn’t the first time “The Early Show” has promoted cohabitation without mentioning the downsides. On March 9, host Harry Smith neglected to ask author Hannah Seligson about the consequences of cohabitation in a discussion of her book, “A Little Bit Married.”
