Justin Bieber’s ‘Born To Be Somebody’ Backs New ‘Bully’ Ad

‘My fans are always up for supporting a great cause,’ Bieber says in a statement about his support of the documentary. By Kara Warner Justin Bieber Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images On the heels of the very successful release of his new single “Boyfriend,” teen phenom Justin Bieber is lending his star power and the song “Born to Be Somebody” to a very worthy cause: the TV ad campaign for “Bully.” The Weinstein Company announced Monday (April 9) that the Bieber-backed TV spot, which debuted on Fandango , will begin airing all over the U.S. ahead of the film’s PG-13 release this Friday. “My fans are always up for supporting a great cause. It’s one of the things I’m most proud of as an entertainer,” Bieber said in statement of his decision to be involved with the documentary. “I hope they see ‘Bully’ with their friends and help start the conversation so we can end bullying.” The highly publicized documentary, which depicts the often-disastrous results of school bullying, originally received an R rating by the MPAA, which inspired 17-year-old Katy Butler to start a viral petition that received over 500,000 signatures , including Bieber, Ellen DeGeneres, Johnny Depp and Demi Lovato. MTV’s own Vinny Guadagino from “The Jersey Shore” also got involved via the anti-bullying campaign the Bully Project tied into the promotion of the film. The campaign is a partnership between GLAAD and the Weinstein Company designed to spread awareness about bullying and to give people opportunities to add their name in support. Drake And Rihanna’s ‘Take Care’ Video: Frozen Planet

After years in the wilderness, Drake finally makes a video for the ages. By James Montgomery Drake and Rihanna in “Take Care” video Photo: Universal Over the past three years, Drake has risen from mixtape maestro to genuine superstar; the kind of enigmatic talent who can proudly embrace his “emotional” side one minute, then release the “Practice” video the next. And in doing so, he has carved out a rather unique niche in the world of hip-hop and R&B — and we’re not just talking about his sweaters. Often duplicated, but never replicated, there truly is no one making music quite like him. And yet, despite all that (and no offense to the wobbly, wonderful “Practice” clip), Drake has never made a truly great music video, or at least one that fits neatly into his maudlin, monochromatic world. Until now, that is. On Friday (April 6), Drake finally premiered his long-in-the-works “Take Care” clip. And yes, it was worth the wait. Full of massively icy landscapes, achingly tense slow-motion footage, artfully framed animals and, uh, Rihanna, it is basically Drake personified. Morose and masterful, slow-burning and incredibly sexual (even when it’s not supposed to be), it exudes both an incredible level of restraint and an over-the-top amount of pomp. It is very serious, very cold, very pained. Nothing much really happens, but at its conclusion, you feel like you’ve been through an awful lot (maybe a journey through the mind of Damien Hirst?). None of his contemporaries — not even the ever-obtuse Kanye — make videos like this, mostly because no one else can get away with it. Directed by Yoann Lemoine — who described the video to MTV News back in February as “very minimal” (he wasn’t kidding) — “Take Care” smolders with an underlying tension. You feel it in the sinewy slo-mo shots of bulls charging and birds taking flight, the gradual crumbling of icons, the shower of arrows and even the tender, charged embrace Drake and Rihanna share. And in that regard, the clip is also a perfect accompaniment to the track’s main bit of source material: Jamie XX’s lovely, languorous remix of Gil Scott-Heron’s cover of “I’ll Take Care of You,” which practically burns with want. And when the drums finally do break through, and Heron’s voice is echoing around the room, there is, mercifully, a release — one Lemoine shows with footage of burning trees and smoking earth. All the iciness melts away, and we’re left with something even more, something elemental. And you sort of feel like you need a cold shower. And because of all that, “Take Care” stands head and shoulders above most other videos, regardless of genre. Full of bold imagery and a tugging sense of regret and doubt, it isn’t merely art for art’s sake (though it’s easy to see Drake’s detractors dismissing it as such); it’s actual art. Welcome to the club, Drizzy; you’ve finally made one for the ages. Who cares if it’s been six months since Take Care was released? In the words of another misunderstood genius — the immortal Jack Horner — ” This is the film I want them to remember me by.” What did you think of Drake’s “Take Care” video? Nicki Minaj Turns Good Friday To Pink Friday At Secret Show

Young Money MC rocks her hometown with a surprise concert in the middle of New York’s Times Square. By Rob Markman Nicki Minaj performs at Times Square Photo: Theo Wargo/ Getty Images NEW YORK — Good Friday all of a sudden became Pink Friday when Nicki Minaj (and alter ego Roman) took the stage in Times Square to promote her new album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, and the release of the remixed “Starships” video with DJ Doorly. The clip doesn’t hit YouTube until Saturday, but on Friday (April 6), Nicki riled up more than 1,000 fans who gathered to see the reigning rap queen rock an unannounced show, sponsored by Nokia . It was 7:30 p.m. ET when the counter on the stage clock hit zero and the blue curtain revealed the Female Weezy in all her glory. Dressed in a blond wig, white collared shirt and black one-piece with tiger-striped stockings, Nicki set things off properly with her current top-five single “Starships.” Fans threw their hands up and danced, releasing all their anxiety from the hours that they waited. “Who’s in love? Is anybody in love?” the Young Money star asked before launching into her Chris Brown-assisted midtempo “Right By My Side.” There was no Breezy, but Nicki made sure to bring that boom-ba-boom-boom with her when the beat for the infectious “Super Bass” dropped. The Harajuku Barbie danced and rapped, encouraging all her Barbz to sing along. “It’s an honor for me to be here tonight. I’m from New York,” she said before announcing to the crowd that they will be filmed and that the footage will be used in her new “Starships” DJ Doorly remix video. With only three songs performed, the show sure was short, but Nicki made sure everyone had a sweet time. What’s your favorite Nicki Minaj song? Let us know in the comments! Dev’s Fans Will ‘Finally Hear Something’ At mtvU Spring Break

Singer performed tracks from her much-delayed debut album, The Night the Sun Came Up. By John Mitchell, with reporting by Sway Calloway Dev at 2012 Spring Break Photo: David Becker/ Getty Images The release of Dev ‘s long-awaited debut album was delayed in the U.S. from the fall of 2011 to late March of this year to give the electropop singer/songwriter time to record new material after the birth of her daughter in early December. She’s been laboring with the production duo the Cataracs on the set for nearly two years now, so it’s no surprise that she jumped at the chance to perform at mtvU’s Spring Break festivities in Las Vegas. “Everybody that is here and watching it on TV gets to see all my stuff that they’ve probably never heard before,” Dev told MTV News while prepping to hit the stage at the Palms Casino Resort. “Stuff other than ‘Bass Down Low’ and ‘G6.’ I’m excited for everybody to finally hear something.” The 22-year-old California native is psyched that American audiences can finally get their hands on The Night the Sun Came Up. (The album was released in the U.K. in September 2011.) Dev says it took her a long time to come up with the title, but ultimately she wanted something that “reflects my rags-to-almost-riches story.” One listen to Dev’s genre-mashing style, and it should come as no surprise that she is a fan of “everything.” “I love everything. I listen to a lot of dance stuff, I listen to a lot of rap,” she told MTV News. “I love trap music, that’s probably my favorite. I love real grimy, dirty trap music.” As for her Spring Break performance, Dev promised that she would do what it takes to thrill the audience.”Maybe I’ll just have to add some extra booty on stage, we’ll see,” she joked. “They like booties out here.” What do you think of Dev’s debut album? ‘Titanic 3D’: The Reviews Are In!

Critics are overwhelmingly impressed with James Cameron’s 3-D conversion. By Kevin P. Sullivan Kate Winslet at the “Titanic 3D” premiere Photo: Getty Images James Cameron has never been known for taking things halfway, and the new 3-D conversion of his epic “Titanic” is no exception. Cameron and his team spent years adding computer-generated depth to each frame to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the tragedy. When the director screened 20 minutes of footage for journalists last October, they responded with warm reviews, but now the final product is ready to set sail. Cameron has always stood by 3-D technology for film, through seemingly endless criticism, and now the reviews for his latest 3-D product are coming in as raves. Drew McWeeny from HitFix doled out high praise for “Titanic 3D,” calling it “the very best 3-D conversion of a film that I’ve seen so far.” Though the quality of the 3-D impressed McWeeny overall, he concluded that nothing about the new version of “Titanic” is really that different. “Adding 3-D to that works technically, but I’m not sure it changed anything, one way or another, emotionally,” he said. When converting a film as iconic as “Titanic,” expectations for the re-release can be very high. Lou Lumenick from the New York Post applauded Cameron’s use of 3-D, saying that it even enhanced the quality of the film. “James Cameron’s spectacular new 3-D version of ‘Titanic’ is everything I’d hoped for, and more,” Lumenick said. “He judiciously — and sometimes with great subtlety — uses the technology to make a great film even greater.” Lumenick said he found “Titanic 3D” “less of a strain on the eyes” than Cameron’s “Avatar.” While most 3-D movies come with complaints from the critics, post-conversion tends to suffer a worse fate. Scott Mantz from “Access Hollywood,” however, wrote that the post work on “Titanic” surpasses even films made for the format. “But what’s amazing is that for a movie that was shot in 2-D, ‘Titanic’ looks amazing in 3-D — almost like it was meant to be in 3-D all along.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Titanic.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Adam Levine Confirms ‘American Horror Story’ Role

‘I think I’m going to be kind of playing myself, so hopefully it will be easy,’ ‘The Voice’ judge says of joining FX drama. By Jocelyn Vena Adam Levine Photo: Getty Images Adam Levine might be single again in real life, but he’s ready to play one of “the Lovers” on FX’s creep-tastic hit drama “American Horror Story.” The Maroon 5 frontman and “The Voice” judge has confirmed the part to E! News . “It is the truth,” Levine told Ryan Seacrest about the previously rumored role . “I mean, it’s pretty much happening. I think it’s happening. I don’t know how much I can divulge, because [series co-creator] Ryan [Murphy] is very under wraps. “It’s going to be fun. And I told [Ryan] I really didn’t know what I was doing, but he didn’t seem to really care,” Levine continued. “So I’m just going to go and try to [do] acting. I think I’m going to be kind of playing myself, so hopefully it will be easy.” Season two is set to premiere in October with returning season one favorites Jessica Lange, Zachary Quinto, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and Lily Rabe. E! further reports that the new season might take place on the East Coast at a mental institution. Season one took place in Los Angeles with a troubled family moving into a new home, lovingly referred to as “Murder House” on the series because so many people were murdered in it. About Murphy, Levine said, “He’s really great. And I love the fact that he believes in me to throw me out there.” Given how often the guys appear shirtless on “American Horror Story” — and how famous Levine’s abs are — fans should probably expect Murphy to make the most of that aspect of his persona. The identity of the other “Lover” is top secret for now. Related Artists Adam Levine

Madonna Banned From Both Of Piers Morgan’s Shows

‘Welcome to Twitter. You’re still banned from my show,’ Morgan writes to Madonna. By Gil Kaufman Madonna and Piers Morgan Photo: Getty Images CNN talk-show host Piers Morgan has not been shy about his feelings about Madonna . The former “America’s Got Talent” judge has been going in on the singer for months, calling her everything from a “con artist” to “gruesome,” and making fun of her super-toned physique and Super Bowl halftime show. But on Monday, Morgan escalated the feud, sending a snippy message to Madonna in which he welcomed her to Twitter while smacking her down once again. The “Girl Gone Wild” singer had set up a special Twitter account on Monday in order to chat with her fans and Morgan wrote , “Welcome to Twitter @MadonnaMDNAday -you’re still banned from my show. Love Piers.” That crossed the line for Madonna’s manager, Guy Oseary, who responded with his own snap-tastic tweet , posting a letter from October 21, 2011, that says Morgan is “delighted to invite Madonna to be a special guest for his L.A. recording of his U.K. chat show — where she would be welcome to promote her new film and forthcoming album release (and perform two numbers).” Like a demented game of Hollywood power-broker tennis, Morgan fired the ball back, tweeting , “Madonna’s only been banned from my #CNN show @guyoseary – not my UK show, which sent that invite. But I’m now banning her from that too.” And he still wasn’t done! Morgan then banned Oseary from all his shows too, due to what he called “guilt by association.” Morgan has apparently felt slighted over the years by Madonna, especially during his days as an editor at England’s Daily Mirror newspaper, where he claims he was lied to by the singer’s publicist in order to ensure that a rival paper got Madge’s pregnancy announcement. Morgan caught Madonna on the same day she was finally extinguishing another feud, this one with EDM superstar deadmau5 , who had taken the 53-year-old pop icon to task for seemingly making a drug reference during her appearance last weekend at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami. Madonna Makes Peace With Deadmau5 Over Ultra ‘Molly’ Comments

‘I don’t support drug use and I never have,’ Madonna Tweeted. By Gil Kaufman Madonna Photo: Getty Images A day after Madonna to task for seemingly making a drug reference during a surprise appearance at the Ultra Music Festival,
the singer buried the hatchet with the EDM superstar during a surprise Twitter summit. Deadmau5 went in hard on Madonna after she blew away partygoers over the weekend while introducing EDM icon Avicii, asking them, “How many people in this crowd have seen Molly?” That incensed Mau5, who slammed
Madonna for seemingly making a thinly veiled reference to the illegal drug MDMA (ecstasy), which is also alluded to in the title of her new album, MDNA .
Though she isn’t known for having an active Twitter presence, Madonna signed on Monday to chat with her fans under the handle, @MadonnaMDNAday. Deadmau5 was among those who joined the conversation, and the 31-year-old party starter followed up his epic 800-word Tumblr rant by telling Madonna, “You’re a role model to 100’s of millions. You have a powerful voice, EDM could use your positive influence, not ‘molly’ talk.” Madonna, 53, Tweeted a 1989 image of herself wearing Minnie Mouse ears with a new thought bubble that read, “From one mouse to another. I don’t support drug use and I never have. I was referring to the song called ‘Have You Seen Molly’ written by my friend Cedric Gervais who I almost worked with on my last album …” Deadmau5 seemingly accepted her apology, responding, “Fair enough, I was just voicing my concerns as I usually do. +1 respect for clearing it up personally … regardless, just be a little more aware of what you should represent at EDM events, and I’ll watch my mouth.” That was good enough for Madonna, too, who replied, “Communication is always best. You should have called me first, we could have cleared it up ‘privately.’ 😉 See you on the road.” And that was that. Deadmau5 was pleased with the response, telling his nearly one million followers, “Well there you have it kids. I’ve said what I needed to say, which ill still stand by, and so did she. life goes on. No more talk of that.” Related Artists Madonna
