I know what you were thinking: “Whew! The Oscars are over! No more of this Uggie red-carpet business ! We can back to real celebrities and real celebrity issues — like what Jimmy Kimmel thinks about Kim Kardashian . Hard-hitting!” Alas, guess who went to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner over the weekend? Moreover, guess who just got a freaking book deal ? First off, there’s the Artist wonder dog hamming it up on the WHCD red carpet, presumably awaiting a glass of pinot grigio and maybe a crab cake or just holding poor Diane Sawyer up on her way to the metal detector. It’s hard to know without having been there, and when you consider that a retired Jack Russell terrier was invited and you weren’t, it’s easy to think you should have been there, and what are you doing with your life, paying off five figures’ worth of student loans while this dog has awards campaigns and international social-media notoriety in his name, and maybe you went into the wrong line of business, and really who wants to live longer than 14 or 15 years anyway on this godforsaken rock, especially one riven by war, pestilence and, well, this … More from the AP [via Huffington Post ]: Uggie, the Jack Russell terrier who appeared in the Oscar-winning The Artist , has a memoir coming. Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, announced Friday that Uggie: My Story will come out in October. His tale of tails will be transcribed by biographer and presumed dog whisperer Wendy Holden. Whatever. I’m totally willing to accept responsibility for this and apologize accordingly for the tsunami of existential woe about to wash over every struggling writer in America, on one condition: You’d better cut me in, Uggie. That is all. [Photo: Getty Images] Follow S.T. VanAirsdale on Twitter . Follow Movieline on Twitter .
Drizzy says that while a lot of Take Care was down, he will switch up the tempo for his next album. By Rob Markman Drake Photo: John Shearer/ Getty Images Since he dropped his breakout tape So Far Gone in 2009, Drake has been consistently going through changes. With each music project, he documents his ever-evolving life, so fans shouldn’t expect that to change when he finally releases his third LP. Drizzy didn’t want to give too much away, but from the sound of things, it’ll be much different from his sophomore effort Take Care . “I think that my mood will be reflected in the tempos that I choose for the music,” Drake said of his next LP during a press conference call Tuesday. “A lot of Take Care, it’s down, a lot of it’s down and I think a lot of that had to do with being back home in Toronto and getting reacquainted with the life I had before and the difficulties of that, but at the same time trying to express excitement and trying to express joy.” Though he still keeps a place in his native Toronto, Drake has recently moved to L.A. The relocation has already sparked musical ideas for the Young Money star. “There’s just so much going on for me in the U.S. that I recently made the move to L.A.,” he said. “It’s a new atmosphere, getting to know new people. It’s going to be a very interesting album.” Drake told MTV News that with Take Care, he was telling a story inspired by his 2009 track “Houstatlantavegas.” On the song, Drake created a fictional world, describing a love affair with an ambitious stripper who can’t quite get out of the life. “It was a world that was very much real to me, but I created it in my mind. It was a world that, being a kid from Toronto, I used to look at from the outside and I used to be like, ‘Man that looks crazy,’ ” he told us. “All those strip clubs and all those nightclubs and the drinks and the girls and the fame.” Things have evolved in the months since he released Take Care. “Now I’m kind of in a very, very, very, very different place than I’ve ever been,” Drake said. “I think it will be conceptually one of the best projects that I’ve ever worked on because there’s so many new things going on in my life. Everybody knows when it’s new, that’s when I thrive.” What is your favorite Drake mixtape or album? Tell us in the comments! Related Photos Drake’s Style: From A To Drizzy Related Artists Drake
Christian rocker says fans may have been ‘turned off’ when he decided to perform Lady Gaga’s ‘Bad Romance.’ By Christina Garibaldi Colton Dixon on “American Idol” Photo: Fox American Idol had fans scratching their heads two weeks in a row after another shocking elimination . Potential favorite Colton Dixon, the Christian rocker from Tennessee, found himself in unfamiliar territory on last week’s episode, landing in the bottom three for the first time. Fans were convinced that he would return to the couch, but after 53 million votes, Dixon was sent packing. What’s the reason for his early exit? Well, according to Dixon, it was his song choice . The 20-year-old took the stage to perform two songs that night, the first being Lady Gaga ‘s smash single, “Bad Romance.” “I’m like, ‘I can metal the snot out of this song,’ ” Dixon told MTV News on Monday (April 23) about his thought process in choosing the song. “I just started getting giddy thinking about it. I saw the smoke and I was like, ‘I’m in!’ and I ran with it.” But now, Colton feels that the message of the song may have offended his fanbase. “I had fun with the song, that was who I was and I had a blast with it,” Dixon said. “And you know, it’s not necessarily a bad message, we all want something that’s not good for us, but that’s how I took the song and I had to edit around some of Gaga’s choice words to have it fit me a little better. But still, I think my audience heard Gaga and just went ‘Oh, weird’ and kinda turned off a little bit, which I understand. I take such a strong stance in my faith, I do understand.” Yet, Dixon has no hard feelings against the song, or Lady Gaga, whom he happens to be a big fan of. “I love her, I do. She’s a great artist and she can sing her tail off and that’s what I love,” Dixon revealed. “She does whatever she can and whatever she has to do to stay on top of the music industry and she does a great job of it.” Were you surprised to see Colton leave “American Idol”? Kiowa Gordon’s leaked pics might seem standard for young Hollywood, but ‘Twilight’ Tuesday notes that the cast has largely avoided scandal. By Kara Warner Kiowa Gordon Photo: Jason LaVeris/ Getty Images With all the glitz and glamour associated with being a young celebrity in Hollywood, it’s hard to imagine there are any cons to fame and fortune. It’s safe to say that one of the more precarious aspects of being universally recognized is the fact that any time a celebrity does anything worth a tweet, photograph or snarky comment, they have the potential to generate many a headline. The amount of news coverage a star commands depends, of course, on the level of public interest, for which the minute details in the lives of Justin Bieber, Kim Kardashian and the “Twilight” cast are of great importance. A lot of the newer stars find out about their headline-generating factor the hard way, as has been the case with Kiowa Gordon and a batch of private photos that were posted to a pornographic website. Never mind the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the incident; by all appearances, Gordon is doing his best to resolve the matter and move on. The “nude photos discovered” headline is so prevalent in pop culture that it’s almost expected. Speaking of expectations, because there are so many ways in which a young celeb might be photographed doing something naughty — they’re teenagers, for cryin’ out loud! — I think we can all take a moment to appreciate the fact that on the whole, the entire “Twilight” cast has done an excellent job in upholding the ideals associated with their role-model statues. There have been a few leaked photos here and there but no evidence of any kind of truly inappropriate behavior that is often associated with young stars. It really is an amazing feat when you think about how many young actors we’re talking about and how scrutinized they are. When I think about some of the dumb things I did in my teens, I thank my lucky stars that Facebook and Twitter were not around. I can’t even begin to think about how difficult it would be to navigate as a young celebrity. So as much as we love to obsess over our favorite stars, let’s try to not sweat the small stuff and appreciate them for being worthy of our continued admiration. Why do you think the “Twilight” cast has largely avoided the typical pitfalls of young fame? Let us know in the comments or tweet me @karawarner!
Twitterverse is buzzing with memories, jokes and a suggested hologram of the late host. By Kara Klenk Dick Clark on the set of “American Bandstand” in 1980 Photo: Getty Images It’s hardly been 24 hours since legendary television personality Dick Clark died from a heart attack. While most are remembering Clark with admiration and reverence — including countless celebrities he helped to make stars — some have taken to social-media outlets to make jokes and question if a hologram version of Clark is forthcoming. While most celebrities celebrated Clark on Twitter, like @MariahCarey who tweeted a photo of them together with the message “R.I.P. Dick Clark. Your memory will live on eternally as an incredible legend,” actor/comedian @DenisLeary took a different tack, referring to Clark as a “leather faced syrup voiced lizard” person. This prompted a lot of “too soon” responses, including one from blogger Perez Hilton, who commented on his blog, “Jeez, Denis Leary. You couldn’t wait A WEEK to insult the recently deceased? Allow some time for some of us to grieve. Pretty insensitive.” Leary went on to join the “Will Dick Clark be the next hologram?” debate by tweeting, “I’m gonna package a Dick Clark Hologram mc’ing a Tupac Hologram summer tour.” With Clark’s death coming so soon after Hologram Tupac took over the Web, it’s not surprising that so many are joking about a Clark hologram possibly resuming hosting duties in the future. Comedian @AFFIONCROCKETT tweeted just one of hundreds of similar comments: “R.I.P. the legendary ICONIC DICK CLARK!!! Oh, he’s DEFINITELY gonna HOLOGRAM HOST New Years Eve from now on.” Others want to see a hologram collaboration on the stage where it all began last weekend, Coachella. Comedian @DougBenson tweeted this suggestion for the festival where Holo-Pac debuted last weekend: “Dear Coachella, a Dick Clark hologram should introduce the Tupac hologram this weekend.” One Twitter user, @thechrisws, was not in favor of any Clark hologram, writing, “If I see a Dick Clark hologram this NYE, I am quitting the future.” Clark’s death has also left people hedging their bets on who will inherit his legacy with most of the buzz pointing toward Ryan Seacrest , and that too has become the butt of a few jokes in the Twittersphere. @FSUSteve tweeted, “I’d rather see a hologram of Dick Clark than a real @ryanseacrest,” while @thecajunboy joked, “Maybe Hologram Dick Clark can do what real Dick Clark never had the ba–s to do: murder Ryan Seacrest.” While social media is full of honest opinions and negative comments — and comedy helps bring levity to sad events — with Clark’s death barely a day old, is it actually too soon to be cracking jokes? ‘Today’s lewk is sponsored by courtney love, virgin suicides & fern gully #nymph,’ singer tweets. By Jocelyn Vena Katy Perry at day three of the Coachella Music Festival in Los Angeles on April 15 Photo: Getty Images After Katy Perry teased her fans that she had completely changed up her hair last week, she went back to black … sort of. Perry debuted her much darker locks at the Coachella music festival over the weekend. After sporting neon-hued hair for some time now, the singer’s new ‘do has a black undertone with navy, deep lavender and eggplant highlights throughout. And while she had been favoring shorter hair over the last several months, her new coiffure is long and wavy. Perry even tweeted about her new look from the music festival, calling out the pop culture moments that inspired her outfits, which ranged from a long, see-through boho dress to a goth-inspired black dress, the latter of which she wore Friday, explaining, “In honor of Friday the 13th The CRAFT is the inspiration for this evenings lewk … #takemyscars #coachella.” A day later she shared, “Today’s lewk is sponsored by courtney love, virgin suicides & fern gully #nymph.” That’s the day she was spotted in her see-through boho dress. On Sunday, Perry tweeted, “Todays lewk is sponsored by hot topic meets twilight. #ashish.” She was photographed in a short, bright floral print dress, ripped-up tights and clunky shoes. Before she hit Coachella over the weekend, Perry hinted that she had every intention of looking to the ’90s for inspiration for her style. “Pretty stoked about my 90’s The Craft meets Garbage meets Tank Girl meets early No Doubt meets Ty from Clueless lewk 4 dis wknd #ohmygoth.” Over the past 12 months, Perry has been particularly experimental with her hair color, most recently sporting a berry-blue color. “She’s kind of this candy-coated sort of person,” her hairstylist Rita Hazan said. “It’s nice to see her experiment with different things.” Related Photos Katy Perry’s Five Best Hairstyles 2012 Coachella Music Festival Related Artists Katy Perry

Pop star’s post-workout tweet criticized by eating-disorder association. By John Mitchell Lady Gaga Photo: Jason Kempin/ Getty Images What was clearly intended as a jokey tweet lamenting the rigorous diet and exercise routine she is currently undertaking to prepare for her 110-date Born This Way Ball has put Lady Gaga in the crosshairs of some angry fans and eating-disorder organizations. On Tuesday, the pop star tweeted , “Just killed back to back spin classes. Eating a salad dreaming of a cheeseburger #PopSingersDontEat #IWasBornThisWay.” Some fans thought the tweet wasn’t exactly keeping with the pop star’s “You’re perfect the way you are” message and that her choice of the “#PopStarsDontEat” hashtag could be misinterpreted as encouraging eating disorders because she posits herself as a role model to her fans. The National Eating Disorder Association even weighed in, hitting its own Twitter account to write, “Huh? This is the same person who recently implored girls to stop dieting?” While it seems clear that Gaga was joking — who hasn’t dove into a salad wishing it was something else? — the comment does appear out of character for the star, who has spoken publicly about her own struggles with an eating disorder as a teen. Using that particular hashtag might have been a poor choice, but it’s safe to say Lady Gaga wasn’t knowingly making light of eating disorders — and, otherwise, wasn’t she mostly just encouraging exercise and healthy eating? Gaga tweets often about all sort of less-than-healthful habits, from drinking (“after 12 margaritas my phone was confiscated”) to, well, other things (“princess xena of xanaxland has lil secrets in her inbox”). Why she is being scrutinized for making an observation about something we already know — that celebrities engage in intense fitness regimens to meet the unrealistic expectations placed on their appearance — is kind of a mystery. But, you know, totally appropriate and necessary reason for outrage, everyone. Sound off on Gaga’s #PopSingersDontEat tweet in the comments below! Related Artists Lady Gaga
‘I respectfully decline my induction as a member of Guns N’ Roses to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,’ frontman posts on Facebook. By James Montgomery Axl Rose Photo: Kevin Mazur/ Getty Images Ever since Guns N’ Roses were announced as Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees in December, speculation has swirled about just who from the band’s lengthy list of current (and former) members would show up at the ceremony. Well, now we know who won’t : mastermind Axl Rose, who announced Wednesday (April 11) that not only does he have no plans to attend Saturday’s induction ceremony in Cleveland, but he wants nothing to do with the Hall at all. “I won’t be attending … and I respectfully decline my induction as a member of Guns N’ Roses to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” Rose wrote in a Facebook message. “I strongly request that I not be inducted in absentia and please know that no one is authorized, nor may anyone be permitted, to accept my induction or speak on my behalf. Neither former members, label representatives nor the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should imply, whether directly, indirectly, or by omission that I am included in any purported induction of ‘Guns N’ Roses.’ ” Rose added that his reasoning behind the message was “personal” and “neither meant to offend, attack or condemn” any GN’R members who decide to attend the induction. He also hinted that, since Guns were announced as inductees, he’d worked with Hall officials to find an appropriate solution to the very real problem of who would be inducted under the name of Guns N’ Roses, hoping to avoid “a complicated or awkward situation.” But, apparently, no solution could be reached. “I feel we’ve been polite, courteous and open to an amicable solution in our efforts to work something out,” Rose wrote. “Taking into consideration the history of Guns N’ Roses, those who plan to attend, along with those the Hall — for reasons of their own — have chosen to include in ‘our’ induction … and how those involved with the Hall have handled things … [it] doesn’t appear to be somewhere I’m actually wanted or respected.” A spokesperson for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame did not respond to MTV News’ request for comment by press time. Rose also used his open letter to (once again) put to rest any and all speculation of burying the hatchet with former members — like guitarist Slash or drummer Steven Adler, to name a few — and launching a full-scale reunion tour, writing: “Time to move on. People get divorced. Life doesn’t owe you our own personal happy ending, especially at another’s — or, in this case, several others’ — expense,” he wrote. “Maybe we can get the ‘no show, grandstanding, publicity stunt, disrespectful, he-doesn’t-dare-about-the-fans crap out of the way … no one’s taking the ball and going home. … From my perspective, in regard to both the Hall and a reunion, the ball’s never been in our court. “In closing, regardless of this decision and as hard to believe or ironic as it may seem, I’d like to sincerely thank the [Rock Hall] board for their nomination and their votes for Guns’ induction,” he added. “More importantly, I’d like to thank the fans for being there over the years, making any success we’ve had possible and for enjoying and supporting Guns N’ Roses’ music. I wish the Hall a great show, congratulations to all the other artists being inducted, and to our fans, we look forward to seeing you on tour!” What do you think of Axl’s note?
