Bret Michaels Settles 2009 Tonys Lawsuit

Michaels claims a piece of the set at the show contributed to a brain hemorrhage that nearly killed him. By Gil Kaufman Bret Michaels Photo: Paul Archuleta/ Getty Images It was supposed to be his big Broadway debut, but when Poison singer Bret Michaels performed at the 2009 Tony Awards all he came away with was a viral video and a huge headache. Three years after the stage accident
seen ’round the world, Michaels has settled a lawsuit against the organizers of the show during which he was hit on the head with a set piece after he and his band performed “Nothin’ But a Good Time.” In the suit, Michaels claimed that he suffered head injuries that later contributed to an April 2010 brain hemorrhage
that nearly killed him. According to the Associated Press the confidential settlement also covers Michaels’ claims against CBS Broadcasting, which aired the show. Michaels had blamed the network for televising the moment that turned into a buzzed-about viral video that was viewed millions of times online. He also claimed Tony Awards producers never warned him there would be a set change after he finished singing the classic 1998 Poison hit “Good Time.” At the time of the accident, the set piece descended rapidly and appeared to hit an unaware Michaels in the face hard enough to snap his head back. He was initially left with a cut lip and broken nose
, but the lawsuit claimed that the accident also caused brain bleeding. Michaels was rushed to the hospital
in April 2010, where doctors found he had a brain hemorrhage, which was followed by a stroke the singer said nearly killed him. Michaels never said how much compensation he was seeking, but claimed in the suit that the injury hampered his ability to perform at later shows. An attorney for Michaels said details of the settlement would not be released and spokespeople for CBS and the Tonys released a joint statement saying that “an amicable resolution” had been reached but no further details would be released. Nick Stahl Enters Rehab

After going missing, ‘Terminator’ actor Nick Stahl’s wife says he’s in a rehab facility. By Gil Kaufman Nick Stahl Photo: Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images After reportedly going missing
for several weeks, “Terminator: Rise of the Machines” actor Nick Stahl has reportedly entered a rehabilitation facility. TMZ reported that Stahl, 32, told his estranged wife, Rose, that he has checked into a facility. The actor e-mailed friends over the weekend to tell them that he was doing fine and would be unreachable for the next 30 days while he was getting help. Rose told the site that she spoke to Stahl on Saturday night and that she double-checked with the facility to make sure that he was still there. She had filed a missing person’s report with the Los Angeles Police Department last week after saying that she had not seen Stahl since May 9. Sources claimed that the actor had been seen in the Skid Row area of downtown L.A. and there were concerns that he was once again struggling with addiction. This latest incident was not the first time that those close to Stahl have expressed concern over his well-being. Rose filed papers with the LA County Superior Court back in February asking a judge to limit her husband’s access to their 2-year-old daughter, Marlo, due to his alleged drug and alcohol abuse. She also claimed that she and Stahl were no longer living together. Stahl made his big-screen debut back in 1993 opposite Mel Gibson in “The Man Without a Face.” Since then, he’s appeared in several major studio films, including “The Thin Red Line,” “Disturbing Behavior” and “Sin City.” His most recent role is in the 2011 VOD-released “388 Arletta Avenue” opposite Devon Sawa.

Lady Gaga To Launch Little Monsters Social Networking Site

Site for Gaga’s fans is invite-only at this point. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga Photo: Getty Images Lady Gaga is already the queen of social media, with almost 19 million Twitter followers. So it just goes to reason that once she’s conquered that medium she would go on to create her own social networking site. Though it’s in invite-only beta testing mode right now, Gaga is prepping for the launch of a social network called Little Monsters that is built around her fan base. According to Mashable , an early look at the site shows some similarity to the popular Pinterest mobile app that allows users to drop pins on locations and things they like. It also uses elements of the Reddit site by allowing fans to rate cool content that they like. Little Monsters will focus on fans sharing and creating photos and videos and allowing users to hype content that they are into. The site is the first one launched by Backplane, a tech startup co-founded by Gaga’s manager, Troy Carter. “Backplane is about bringing together communities and Gaga’s community just so happens to be the community we’re using to learn about proper functionality,” said CEO Matt Michelsen about the company that will focus on building online communities. “We think we can really change the world.” Backplane is partially funded by Gaga and the company plans to launch Little Monsters out of beta at an undetermined time and spin-off more sites this year. It hopes to leverage Gaga’s massive online following to draw users to the new sites. To date, in addition to her massive Twitter base, Gaga has 330,000 followers on Google+, 47 million Facebook fans and more than one billion views on YouTube

Ace Hood And We The Best Sign To YMCMB

‘When you got a young man with that kind of focus, you never know how far he can go in this business,’ Birdman tells MTV News. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Ace Hood Photo: Bennett Raglin/ Getty Images Seems like Ace Hood ‘s hustling has paid off in a big way. On Monday night, on the set of DJ Khaled ‘s “Take It to the Head” video shoot, Birdman made a very special announcement to MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway concerning Ace Hood and Khaled’s budding label. “I’d like to let the world know that Khaled’s brand, which is We the Best, is officially signed to YMCMB and the first act coming out that umbrella … will be Ace Hood,” Birdman said. “I always wanted to have a chance to work with Ace Hood.” Ace has kept close ties with Birdman’s Cash Money/ Young Money camp. Birdman appeared on “This N—a Here,” a track off from Ace’s 2009 sophomore effort Ruthless, and Lil Wayne jumped on Hood’s “Hustle Hard” remix last year. Baby has had his eye on Ace for a while now, but he was signed to Def Jam. At press time, it is unclear whether Def Jam is involved in this new deal. “We wanted to do it right, set it up right. I think Ace Hood is a superstar,” the #1 Stunna said. “I love his work ethic, I think he’s a very talented young man and he gonna be a big superstar in this business and I wanted to be the one to help him become that. It was important to me.” So now, through Khaled’s We the Best, Ace Hood joins Drake, Nicki Minaj, Tyga and, of course, Lil Wayne on the already-powerhouse label. “When you got a young man with that kind of focus, you never know how far he can go in this business,” Birdman said. B.o.B Says Iggy Azalea/ Azealia Banks Beef Not His ‘Business’

‘As an individual you have to understand what is your business and what isn’t,’ Bobby Ray says on ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman B.o.B Photo: Getty Images B.o.B is a nice guy, but don’t let his cool, calm demeanor fool you. “I’m a Scorpio; I can be your best friend or your worst enemy,” Bobby Ray said when he appeared on Wednesday’s “RapFix Live.” “And as of now I’ve been your best friend.” Still, for the most part B.o.B steers clear of the extracurricular rap beefs, so don’t expect him to throw his two cents into the Iggy Azalea/ Azealia Banks dustup, even though he and Iggy are both prime players on T.I.’s Grand Hustle label. “I’m definitely always gonna ride for my team, always. There’s no doubt in my mind, but as an individual you have to understand what is your business and what isn’t your business,” he explained. “Now, if something spills over into my court, then I have to handle my business. But as of yet I really don’t attract that type of energy to myself.” There was, however, a lyrical tiff with Tyler, the Creator in 2011. After taking offense at a line on Tyler’s breakout song “Yonkers,” B.o.B responded with “No Future,” but both MCs downplayed any notion of beef, writing the incident off as just competition. Azalea versus Azealia, however, has become increasingly harder to ignore. The Harlem-bred Banks took exception after Iggy secured a spot on the coveted XXL Freshman cover by winning a fan vote. Banks had no problem lashing out at Iggy via Twitter, and when Tip defended his new prot

‘Avengers’ Star Samuel L. Jackson Bashes New York Times Critic’s Review

‘NY Times critic AO Scott needs a new job! Let’s help him find one! One he can ACTUALLY do!’ Jackson tweets. By Gil Kaufman Samuel L. Jackson Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Is there anyone on the planet at this point who doesn’t know that Samuel L. Jackson is a man not to be trifled with? Whether it’s snakes at 20,000 feet or dopey college kids who try to rip off his boss, the highest-grossing actor of all time is a badass both on and off the screen. Which might explain why he was a bit miffed when, amid the almost universal acclaim
 for “The Avengers,”
he read the a review from New York Times critic A.O. Scott that was not entirely positive. The veteran critic wrote , “‘The Avengers’ is hardly worth raging about, its failures are significant and dispiriting … The light, amusing bits cannot overcome the grinding, hectic emptiness, the bloated cynicism that is less a shortcoming of this particular film than a feature of the genre.” But the part that likely stung the most was his takedown of Jackson’s role as eye patch-wearing Nick Fury, head of spy agency S.H.I.E.L.D., which Scott called, “more master of ceremonies than mission commander.” Say what again? “#Avengers fans, NY Times critic AO Scott needs a new job!,” Jackson tweeted on Thursday. “Let’s help him find one! One he can actually do!” The blast set off some conversations with a few fans, including one who replied, “@SamuelLJackson the critic has a right to his opinion. Just because the movie has made a ton of money does not mean it is a good movie.” Considering that “The Avengers” has set some overseas box office records
and is on track to potentially smash U.S. high-water marks, Jackson replied, “Actually, sometimes IT DOES!” The back-and-forth kept going, with another disappointed Twitter user taking issue with Jackson’s furious anger and “irrational” response to the negative review, asking if people are still entitled to their own opinions? “That is My Opinion!” Jackson replied. “What’s irrational about it? They aren’t going to fire his jaundiced ass & You & I Know It!” Are you seeing “The Avengers” this weekend? Let us know in the comments section below or on Twitter!
