Alleged Crack Pipe Vending Machines Pop Up On Long Island

More:

Source: ATP/WENN.com / WENN Although the use of crack cocaine has dramatically dropped over the past decade and more, it’s apparent people are still using crude methods to get the drug into their system. In Suffolk County, New York, vending machines featuring alleged makeshift crack pipes cropped up and police there have been cracking down in locating and destroying them. ABC 7 New York reports : Town of Brookhaven officials and Suffolk County police are trying to figure out who placed three potential crack pipe vending machines, dubbed as pen vending machines, in Coram and Medford. The town received complaints about the machines over the weekend. Two of them — one of which had partially destroyed by community members — have been removed. The blue and white vending machines, which featured the words “Sketch Pens” on the outside in black and red font, were mounted in cement into the ground and would dispense a small glass tube and a filter. Included was the top of a pen, which could be put into the glass tube to form a pen, along with an ink tube. Local outlet Pix 11 adds in its reporting that police in and across the Town of Brookenhaven have seized three of the machines with concerns there may be more. Crude in appearance, the machines spit out pens that, when deconstructed, featured the means to put together a pipe to smoke crack for the cost of just two dollars. “There are some people who think they’re going to make some money out of this and prey on a community and promote drug use in a community,” Brookenhaven Town supervisor Ed Romaine said on Monday (Sept. 11) at a news conference. “They’re going to be sadly mistaken.” — Photo: WENN

Nick Stahl Enters Rehab

After going missing, ‘Terminator’ actor Nick Stahl’s wife says he’s in a rehab facility. By Gil Kaufman Nick Stahl Photo: Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images After reportedly going missing
for several weeks, “Terminator: Rise of the Machines” actor Nick Stahl has reportedly entered a rehabilitation facility. TMZ reported that Stahl, 32, told his estranged wife, Rose, that he has checked into a facility. The actor e-mailed friends over the weekend to tell them that he was doing fine and would be unreachable for the next 30 days while he was getting help. Rose told the site that she spoke to Stahl on Saturday night and that she double-checked with the facility to make sure that he was still there. She had filed a missing person’s report with the Los Angeles Police Department last week after saying that she had not seen Stahl since May 9. Sources claimed that the actor had been seen in the Skid Row area of downtown L.A. and there were concerns that he was once again struggling with addiction. This latest incident was not the first time that those close to Stahl have expressed concern over his well-being. Rose filed papers with the LA County Superior Court back in February asking a judge to limit her husband’s access to their 2-year-old daughter, Marlo, due to his alleged drug and alcohol abuse. She also claimed that she and Stahl were no longer living together. Stahl made his big-screen debut back in 1993 opposite Mel Gibson in “The Man Without a Face.” Since then, he’s appeared in several major studio films, including “The Thin Red Line,” “Disturbing Behavior” and “Sin City.” His most recent role is in the 2011 VOD-released “388 Arletta Avenue” opposite Devon Sawa.

Florence And The Machine Reveal Inspirations Behind New Album

Florence Welch talks fame and ghostly visits before her Bonnaroo set on Friday. By James Montgomery Florence Welch of Florence and the Machines performs during the 2011 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival Photo: Erika Goldring/WireImage MANCHESTER, Tennessee — When Florence Welch began writing the songs that would become her breakout Lungs album, she was just 18 years old and had no idea of what lay ahead of her. Now, as she begins putting the finishing touches on the follow up to that album — working in the iconic Abbey Road studios — she finds herself a few years older, but oddly enough, in much the same position. “It’s nearly finished, but, of course, that’s the hardest part for me, because once it’s finished, you have to share it with others,” she told MTV News on Thursday before her sundown set at Bonnaroo . “So, I’ve found myself obsessing over the way I’ve sung one little word, and wanting to go back and do it over again. I’m going to try and hold onto it as long as possible.” While Welch admits the album is in its final stages, she still has a difficult time describing exactly what it sounds like. But from what she does say, it seems like the still-untitled effort won’t sound like Lungs. “I wrote so much of my first album at different times and places — some songs when I was 18, some when I was 21 — so there are so many pieces and styles on it,” she said. “And that’s one of the things I love about it, but for my new record, I wanted to do things differently. It’s why I worked with one producer in one studio. I want to tie all those things together … in one piece, if possible.” The new album also reflects everything that’s happened to her on her rather rapid ascent to fame. But she’s also taking inspiration from far different, far more ethereal places, too. “There’s a song on it that’s inspired by a visit [from] my dead grandmother — like, I had really, really vivid dream about her and, um, she was giving me advice in this dream,” she said. “And it was really emotional, and I woke up crying. And there’s one song that’s inspired by that experience.” Stick with MTV News for show reports and interviews from Bonnaroo 2011 all weekend long.
