Rozay isn’t finished recording and the LP doesn’t have a release date yet, but Khaled — whose album We the Best Forever is in stores this week — is already making big predictions. ” God Forgives, I Don’t is a classic-in-the-making. Let me tell you something right now: This album is so crazy from the beginning of what I’ve been in the studio hearing already,” he told MTV News on Wednesday (July 20). “I can’t give you too much because I’m going to let him do that, because that’s his project, but I could tell you right now it’s classic and he is talking that talk. ” As far as Ross’ albums go, it has been a year since his last LP, Teflon Don, was released, but the rotund Miami rapper has kept a high profile, releasing his Maybach Music Group project Self Made, Vol. 1 in May. Compilation singles like “Tupac Back” and “Ima Boss” have kept Ross on the charts, as well as songs on which Ross is featured (Lil Wayne’s “John” and Khaled’s “I’m On One”), have kept the Miami MC on the airwaves. Khaled noted his homey’s growth, telling us the Bawse gets better with each album. ” God Forgives, I Don’t, it fits the time because right now it’s no rules,” Khaled said. “We don’t see ’em; we going hard and that’s what Ross is doin’.” Are you looking forward to Ross’ album? R. Kelly Undergoes Emergency Throat Surgery

The singer has just announced that, due to health issues, he will no longer be on the lineup for the Jamaican festival, which began Sunday and will run through the upcoming weekend. Kelly was scheduled to perform Friday, however he was rushed to the hospital for throat surgery. “R&B superstar R. Kelly will be laid up for an indefinite amount of time after undergoing an emergency procedure at Northwestern Memorial Hospital yesterday to drain an abscess on one of his tonsils,” a press release reads. “Kelly had visited a throat specialist earlier in the day complaining of severe throat pain,” it continues. “Following a preliminary exam, he was rushed to Northwestern Memorial for the procedure. It is not known when the multiplatinum recording star, who just completed the U.S. leg of his worldwide Love Letter Tour , will be able to resume performing.” Kelly was one of the headlining draws for the Montego Bay festival. Other performers slated to take the stage at Reggae Sumfest include Nicki Minaj, Mya, Beenie Man, Elephant Man and a number of other artists from the Caribbean and the U.S. There has been no word on whether Kelly, who was to perform during one of the international nights, will be replaced. MTV News drops by Perry’s Seattle show on Wednesday for live announcements at 11 p.m. ET. But now we can reveal that at 11 p.m. ET, none other than Katy Perry will drop in to help make the announcement on MTV and stick around for a live-stream chat about them on MTV.com. We’ll be visiting Perry — who has had a stellar year since the release of Teenage Dream last August — in Seattle, the latest stop of her California Dreams summer blowout . And Perry will be just one of several special guests who will pop in to talk about the VMA nominations. The nominations special and live stream will serve up even more bold names as well as music experts employing Skype, Twitter and Facebook to give post-VMA nominee-announcement commentary and reactions. This year’s VMAs return once more to Los Angeles, where the 28th annual show will air live on Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Tone Loc Pleads Not Guilty To Domestic Violence Charges

By Gil Kaufman Tone Loc Photo: Todd Williamson/ Getty Images “Wild Thing” rapper Tone Loc was in a Los Angeles courtroom on Thursday, where the 45-year-old MC (born Anthony Smith) pleaded not guilty to felony possession of an assault weapon and domestic violence charges. Loc was arrested last month for suspicion of felony domestic violence following an alleged altercation with the mother of one of his children. According to TMZ , police found an unregistered military-grade assault rifle, a semi-automatic Colt AR-15 Sporter, during their investigation into the incident on June 18. He is slated to return to court in the case on July 28. Last December, Loc was arrested for DUI, but his manager told TMZ that his client does not drink and it was a seizure that caused him to drive erratically. Best known for his gravelly voice and laid-back attitude, Loc had two best-selling singles from his 1989 debut, Loc-ed After Dark, which was followed by the less-successful 1991 disc Cool Hand Loc. After his music career cooled off, the rapper used his unmistakable voice to launch a second career as a voice-over actor and sometime movie actor, appearing in films such as “The Adventures of Ford Fairlane” and “Posse.” He’s also lent his voice to the movies “FernGully: The Last Rainforest,” “A Cool Like That Christmas” and “Titan A.E.,” as well as the TV shows “King of the Hill” and “C-Bear and Jamal.”

Blink-182 ‘Stoked’ For Fans To Hear ‘Up All Night’

By James Montgomery Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus Photo: Jason Kempin/ Getty Images Two years ago, Blink-182 told MTV News they wouldn’t be playing “Up All Night” during their reunion tour mostly because, well, they hadn’t finished recording it yet. “We really don’t want the first time that people hear our new song to be a YouTube version of us playing it live,” Mark Hoppus said at the time. “We want it to be the actual song, and we haven’t gotten the chance to finish it yet, so we’ll probably leave it out of the set until we actually release it.” Of course, for a while there, it looked like that release date would never come . But on Tuesday night, much to the delight of Blink fans everywhere, the band announced that “Up All Night” would finally, totally, officially make its premiere Friday at 10:30 a.m. on Los Angeles radio station KROQ and Blink182.com . If you think you’re excited, well, you can imagine how the guys in Blink must be feeling. After all, the debut of “Up All Night” has been a long time coming. And, as Hoppus told MTV News in an email Wednesday (July 13), they can’t wait to finally give fans a listen to what they’ve been up to all this time. “We’re all so stoked to finally have music out that people can listen to. I think I’m probably more excited than anyone else in the world for the new single,” Hoppus wrote. ” ‘Up All Night’ contains elements of everything we’ve done in Blink-182, and pushes further than we’ve gone before. Can’t wait for everyone to check it out.” Blink will hit the road along with My Chemical Romance on August 5 as part of the 2011 Honda Civic Tour — and yes, they’ll be playing songs from their upcoming album. And bringing lasers too. “I just want lasers. That’s what I said last time, though, so we’ll see,” Tom DeLonge told MTV News in May. “I’m excited [because] I think on this next tour we’re going to be able to have a lot more options of what we can do, because the music is going to afford a little more latitude, just because we’ve been doing some really cool stuff and different stuff with the new record. Taylor Lautner Has ‘Swag’ In ‘Abduction,’ Director Says

The renowned director says that Lautner has abandoned his onscreen “Twilight” werewolf alter ego to play a butt-kicking teen in the film, due out in September. “I put him through his paces and I can say this to the MTV audience: They’re gonna see a whole different Taylor Lautner from what Jacob is in the ‘Twilight’ pictures,” Singleton told MTV News. “My goal as a director was to work with him as an actor, for him to have something that’s a different character.” So, what did Singleton draw out of his actor? Singleton said he wanted Lautner’s character to be “strong and charismatic. I’ve done some stuff that I’m sure all the young ladies will really love … and it’s beyond taking his shirt off. It’s about him having a different kind of swag than he does as Jacob. In this movie, he’s Nathan Harper and he’s a kickass dude in this movie.” The director explained that while Lautner plays tough in the flick, he was quite the softie on set, taking the time out to thank his fans for stopping by to watch him in action. “Taylor’s the most famous actor I’ve ever worked with in my whole career,” Singleton said. “When we were shooting this movie, we had 500 to 600 girls and their mothers off the set, trying to get on the set, trying to be around, which was cool.” Singleton said that the star handled all the attention like the seasoned pro that he is. “It was really funny because, you know, after we worked all these hours, he’d go out and he’d graciously shake peoples’ hands and sign autographs,” he said. “He’s phenomenal. Blink-182 To Release New Single ‘Up All Night’ Friday

By Gil Kaufman Blink 182 Photo: Christopher Polk/ Getty Images Like a whisper campaign about a tatted-up unicorn, Blink-182 ‘s elusive first reunion single, “Up All Night,” has been the subject of chatter for years. The band first started talking about the tune in 2009, when they reunited after a nearly four-year hiatus, but because the recorded version of the song wasn’t quite finished at that point, they decided against playing the song live during their subsequent tours. But now they’re ready to pull back the curtain on the song, which is slated to premiere at 10:30 a.m. EST on Friday. The tune will roll out on powerhouse Los Angeles rock station KROQ (106.7 FM) and on the band’s official website , according to an announcement posted on the group’s official Facebook page . While recording on the band’s first new album since their self-titled 2003 disc was recently wrapped, a release date for the as-yet-untitled CD has not been announced. Blink went on indefinite hiatus in 2005 amid inter-band tensions and announced their reunion at the 2009 Grammy Awards. They then hit the road that summer along with Weezer and Fall Out Boy. Though they’ve kept it off the live list for two years, it’s likely “Night” will be added to the band’s set when they kick off their upcoming Honda Civic-sponsored tour dates with My Chemical Romance on August 5 at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey. In addition to MCR, the band will be joined by a rotating list of other support acts on the tour, including Manchester Orchestra, Rancid, Against Me! and Matt & Kim. Bassist Mark Hoppus sounded pumped about the new songs in a recent Facebook post , writing, “Currently listening to THE FIRST MIX FROM THE NEW ALBUM!! Sounds kick. Ass. ‘Pirates’ star is reportedly lining up several new films, including ‘The Night Stalker.’ By Terri Schwartz Johnny Depp Photo: Jorge Herrera/Getty Images Though he certainly could happily retire on his “Pirates” loot, never let it be said that Johnny Depp is not one of the hardest-working men in Hollywood. This week, news broke of three new potential Depp projects in early discussions. Though he has commitments to Tim Burton’s “Dark Shadows” remake and Gore Verbinski’s “The Lone Ranger” update at the moment, and has said he would consider future installments of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise , it sounds like Depp is trying to keep himself busy for the foreseeable future. Deadline reports that two of the movies are being set up with Disney (Depp’s go-to company these days). The first is a feature film version of “The Night Stalker,” a 1970s TV horror movie and series that tells the story of tabloid reporter Carl Kolchak after he stumbles upon a series of supernatural killers. The second is an untitled Paul Revere film that Depp is working on with “Batman Forever” writers Lee and Janet Batchler. It would follow Revere during the 24-hour time period in which he made his legendary midnight ride to warn the revolutionaries that the British were coming. Depp would potentially star as the lead in both films. And earlier this week, “Miral” director Julian Schnabel let slip the other bit of Depp news during an interview with The Playlist , when he stated that the “Pirates” star had approached him about an adaptation of “In the Hand of Dante.” Depp had purchased film rights to the book by Nick Tosches several years ago and asked Schnabel to consider it as his next project. It’s not clear if Depp would star in the movie. “I’m not going to make it for a couple of years,” Schnabel said of the adaptation of the novel, which weaves the story of the 14th century poet and that of a contemporary writer caught up in the potential black market sale of Dante’s “Divine Comedy” manuscript. “We’re gonna work on writing it, developing it. We didn’t sign anything. It’s just something Johnny asked me to read, and I think it’s a great book, so maybe you should read it. It’s pretty beautiful. DMX’s Jail Time Extended Over Alleged Drug Violation

By Gil Kaufman DMX Photo: Larry Busacca/ Getty Images It sounds like rapper DMX will have to wait at least another week to get his latest attempt at a career reboot off the ground. According to TMZ , the MC (born Earl Simmons) was ordered to stay in prison for another week after authorities allegedly caught him with drugs. X, 40, has been housed at a state prison in Yuma, Arizona, since January, and according to the gossip site, he has broken a number of rules over the past month, including drug possession, failing or refusing a drug test, smoking in an unauthorized area, acting disrespectfully to the staff and engaging in disorderly or disruptive conduct. Of the seven alleged disciplinary infractions since January, four have come since June 12, with two more in April for alleged drug possession and disorderly conduct, and another in January for unauthorized smoking. Due to his latest infractions, the troubled rapper — who had been slated to be released Wednesday — will spend at least another week in prison, according to the Associated Press . His new release date is July 19. He was sent back to prison in December for a probation violation after an arrest in November for failing to check in with his probation officer. Around December 20, X was reportedly transferred to a mental-health unit after the judge in his case described him as having an “undiagnosed mental condition,” before ordering him back to prison for one year.
