Rebecca Black Set To Drop New Single, EP

Follow-up to smash ‘Friday, titled ‘My Moment,’ will be released July 18. By Jocelyn Vena Rebecca Black Photo: Ethan Miller/Getty Images Thanks to her ubiquitous hit “Friday,” Rebecca Black quickly went from YouTube sensation to starring in a Katy Perry video for that singer’s equally ubiquitous hit “Last Friday Night.” Now Black is ready to take her career to the next level. She’ll release a new song, “My Moment,” on July 18, according to The Hollywood Reporter The song was written by Brandon “Blue” Hamilton (Justin Bieber) and Quinton Tolbert and the production credits include Charlton Pettus. The video is less kitschy (but perhaps just as literal) than her “Friday” video. It will include footage of her attending red-carpet events and receiving an award at her junior high school. It will “tell the story of her sudden rise to fame,” according to a statement. “It’s a fairy tale story, but it happened in real life.” Black is also working on finishing up her five-track EP, which will be released in August. “We’re thinking about it; we have so many different options right now. We’re trying to decide which route we should take,” Black told MTV News earlier this year about her career plans and following up her viral smash. “I really like Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Katy Perry , Selena Gomez; all just the fun upbeat stuff, teenager songs,” she said of her musical inspirations. “My dream duet would be Justin Bieber. Even just doing something with Taylor Swift, or any of my favorite artists would be so cool.” Are you looking forward to Rebecca Black’s next single? Tell us in the comments! Joe Jonas Wants To Hit The Road With Chris Brown

‘We liked working together, so I can see it working,’ Joe tells MTV News of his ‘See No More’ partner. By Jocelyn Vena Joe Jonas Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Joe Jonas was once a curly-haired kid from New Jersey who sang bubblegum pop/rock songs about puppy love with his brothers. Well, he’s grown up a lot since then. He chopped off his hair and, on his first-ever solo album , Fast Life, he’s opening up about falling in and out of love. And in August, the middle JoBro turns a very grown-up 22. So, what does he have planned for the big day? “I don’t have any birthday plans yet, actually,” he told MTV News recently. “I don’t even know where we’re going to be because we’re trying to figure out a touring situation right now and it either looks like I’m going on my tour, my own tour, or opening up for somebody, supporting somebody on tour.” While his plans are still to be determined, he was sure of one thing: “Wherever I am, there will be a party and it will be fun.” Speaking of tours, Joe was once rumored to be hitting the road with Britney Spears on her now all-female Femme Fatale trek . Those plans didn’t pan out, of course, and now he’s looking to hook up with someone else on the road. Joe even shared his dream tourmate with us. “My dream list, wow … I mean, doing a tour with Chris would be cool,” he said of Chris Brown, who helped the singer pen his first single, “See No More.” “I feel like, musically, we both have the same sounds and we liked working together, so I can see it working.” Joe’s album drops in September , and he told us that he’s not holding back on it. “It was scary in the beginning,” he said of doing a solo LP, “just because I knew this is my one opportunity to show people my journal: the good and bad of every relationship I’ve been in, you know, [and] what I look for [in relationships],” he explained. Jay-Z Is Two Songs Deep Into Next Solo Album

Working on Watch the Throne with Kanye got the creative juices flowing for Blueprint 3 follow-up. By Alvin Blanco Jay-Z Photo: Getty Images NEW YORK — While fans are still eagerly waiting for Jay-Z to drop his collaborative album with Kanye West, Watch the Throne, he has already started working on his next solo album. At an exclusive listening session for Throne on Thursday night at the Mercer Hotel, the Brooklyn rapper revealed that he is two songs deep into recording his 12th solo LP. The experience of creating the collaboration was so positive, Jay said, it inspired him begin working on new material of his own. Besides the two songs he has already completed, which he claimed were the best first pair of tunes he has ever created for one of his albums, he also has another four ideas ready to go. “I know exactly the tone and the whole feel of the album,” Jay-Z said of the follow-up to 2009’s platinum-certified The Blueprint 3. “I think when you experience creativity, you should get it out as much as possible.” Even though Watch the Throne isn’t in stores yet (pre-order receipts seem to indicate, unofficially, that it will be out on August 2), the “Empire State of Mind” rapper doesn’t want to stifle the creative juices that started flowing when he was working with West. And the inspiration flowed both ways, it seems. After getting Odd Future singer Frank Ocean to record a song for his solo album, Hov decided to have the crooner contribute his vocals to two Watch the Throne songs. So will this new solo effort come out before the discs from his Roc Nation signees J. Cole and Jay Electronica ? “Hopefully,” he quipped, before adding, “I don’t play that. We’re all competing for the same mind share. J. Cole and Jay Electronica are both making inspiring music.” Related Artists Jay-Z

Ghostface Killah Sued For Sampling ‘Iron Man’ Theme Song

Wu-Tang Clan rapper has long had a fascination with the superhero. By Gil Kaufman Ghostface Killah Photo: Scott Gries/ Getty Images The Wu-Tang Clan has never been shy about flaunting their influences: from martial arts to La Cosa Nostra, chess and, of course, superhero comics. But member Ghostface Killah’s love of one Marvel icon in particular, Iron Man, is putting the Shaolin rapper in some hot legal water. According to The Hollywood Reporter, composer Jack Urbont is suing Sony Music Entertainment and Ghostface (born Dennis Coles) over claims the rapper illegally sampled his “Iron Man Theme” from the 1960s “The Marvel Super Heroes” TV show. Ghostface, who named his 1996 solo debut Ironman, and whose many aliases include Ironman and the superhero’s alter ego, billionaire industrialist Tony Stark (which Ghostface spells Starks), has long had a fascination with the character. But Urbont claims in his suit that two songs on Ghostface’s second album, 2000’s Supreme Clientele copied “verbatim” the “Theme” he wrote for the show. Urbont is an actor and Broadway producer who has also written theme music for everything from daytime soaps such as “General Hospital” to music for “That ’70s Show” and “The View.” The Reporter speculated that Urbont’s suit came so long after the album’s release because the composer “may have grown tired of seeing Killah’s name attached to his music on the Internet.” The character has obviously gotten a much higher profile over the past few years thanks to the two “Iron Man” movies. In fact, one of Ghostface’s songs, “Slept on Tony with Dirt,” appeared in the 2008 “Iron Man” movie and the rapper appears in a deleted scene on the DVD version of the film. The case is described as a typical copyright infringement claim, but the Reporter noted that Urbont’s lawyers also threw in an unfair competition claim. “Defendant Ghostface is also known for the nickname ‘Tony Starks,’ which is a take-off of the name ‘Tony Stark,’ Iron Man’s real name and true identity. In this way, Defendants’ use of Urbont’s ‘Iron Man Theme’ gives them a substantial commercial advantage by linking Ghostface to Iron Man without paying for it,” the allegation reads. A spokesperson for Ghostface could not be reached at press time. Related Artists Ghostface Killah

Beanie Sigel To Set The Record Straight On ‘RapFix Live’

Philly MC will talk about his Jay-Z drama and his future moves next Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. By Rob Markman Beanie Sigel and Jay-Z in 2007 Photo: Getty Images Some call him the Truth, others call him the Reason, but most just call him Beanie Sigel . And next Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET, we’ll call the former Roc-A-Fella rapper our guest when he joins Sway on “RapFix Live.” There will be much to talk about with the Philadelphia MC as we will address his relationship with Jay-Z , the brash comments he’s made about Hov and the apology he supposedly issued to Jigga at the top of June. Last week, during a radio appearance on Sirius XM, the Broad Street Bully denied that he ever apologized to Jay-Z and charged that his quotes were taken out of context by XXL magazine, the outlet that first broke the news of Beans’ supposed olive branch. He did, however, acknowledge that it was Jay-Z who gave him his start in hip-hop, and for that he expressed his gratitude. Sigel rose to rap prominence after he was signed to Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Fella Records, where he released his debut album, The Truth, in 1999. Respected equally for his rap bars as well as his street bravado, the MC has seen his career tainted by legal trouble. In 2004, Beans was sentenced to a year and a day in prison after he pled guilty to federal weapon charges. It was around this time that Roc-A-Fella co-founders Jay-Z and Damon Dash split, leaving the company fractured and forcing artists on their roster to choose sides. Sigel managed to release 2005’s The B. Coming on Dash’s DDMG label and then his 2007 follow-up, The Solution, on Roc-A-Fella Records two years later. Still, the relationship between him and Jay has since been damaged. In 2009, Sigel addressed the drama and threw shots at Jay-Z on several songs, including “What You Talkin Bout,” a track he released in October of that year. Now, Sigel aims to set the record straight on the next episode of “RapFix Live.” Related Artists Beanie Sigel Jay-Z

Jay-Z And Kanye’s Watch The Throne Is ‘Ready To Go’

‘They might put it out yesterday,’ G.O.O.D. Music’s CyHi the Prynce jokes to Sway on ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Kanye West and Jay-Z Photo: Daniel Boczarski/Getty Images The anticipation for Jay-Z and Kanye West ‘s joint album Watch the Throne coupled with the lack of information surrounding the project has created the perfect storm for rumors. Earlier this month, The Source magazine reported that the album would be dropping July 4. With Independence Day coming in less than a week, those chances are looking as slim as the girl in Calvin Klein pants is. But on Wednesday’s (June 29) episode of “Rap Fix Live,” G.O.O.D. Music artist CyHi the Prynce did give fans a bit of hope. “They are ready to go. Right now, all the music and everything is done,” CyHi told Sway. “But you know my guy — we over here with [Kanye], so ‘Ye is gonna add his last little pizzazz, and it’s going to be ready for you guys soon.” On Tuesday, the Fourth of July speculation continued to swirl as AllHipHop.com ran a rumor report that said that the album will come Monday as a digital-only release to avoid leaks. CyHi would neither confirm nor deny that report, saying he wasn’t privy to that information. “I don’t know the business of the logistics of it,” he said, dodging the question with a veteran’s poise. “Those are the bosses. You never know what they gonna do and how they gonna put it out. They might put it out yesterday. “I don’t know. ‘Ye can do something, and he can just do it how he wanna do it,” CyHi continued. “He can just put it out tomorrow if he wanted to, and that’s what ‘Ye want to do.” Until then, we’ll continue to watch. Rihanna Replaces Cee Lo Green With J. Cole As ‘Official’ Tour Opener

‘@CeeLoGreen will no longer be a part of #LOUDtour due 2 commitment with ‘The Voice’,’ singer tweeted. By Jocelyn Vena J. Cole Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images Rihanna has found a new man to be her official tour opener. After Cee Lo Green had to drop out of the singer’s Loud tour due to other commitments, the “California King Bed” designated J. Cole as the “Forget You” singer’s replacement. Rihanna announced via Twitter that rapper J. Cole, who was already on the road with the singer, will fill Green’s shoes as her main warm-up act on the tour, which began this month. “#GOODNEWS @JColeNC is our new official opener!” she wrote on Tuesday night. “@CeeLoGreen will no longer be a part of #LOUDtour due 2 commitment with ‘The Voice’ #Cantmissit.” Green had to leave when his schedule became too crammed with other commitments, including his judging gig on the hit NBC talent competition “The Voice,” which is also presenting a tour this summer. “He always puts 100 percent into his work and with the requirements and time commitment to ‘The Voice,’ on top of heading back into the recording studio and an upcoming book, he feels that he wouldn’t give his fans the show that they deserve,” Green’s spokesperson said, according to The New York Times . Rihanna’s Loud tour travels the U.S. through July 24 before heading to Europe in August. It’s set to wrap up in late December. There was a similar switch-up for Rihanna’s Last Girl on Earth Tour in 2010, when Nicki Minaj pulled out at the last minute and was quickly replaced with Travie McCoy. Ke$ha also opened on that tour. Alicia Keys Marvels At ‘Incredible’ Wax Figure

‘Look that’s my chin! That’s my jaw!’ songstress tells MTV News of her Madame Tussauds likeness. By Jocelyn Vena Alicia Keys unviels her wax figure at Madame Tussauds in New York City Photo: Getty Images NEW YORK — Alicia Keys famously sang about the “spirit of New York” on her hit song with Jay-Z, “Empire State of Mind.” Now the New York native is part of an exhibit with that name at Madame Tussauds in Times Square, and she couldn’t be prouder to have her wax figure stand alongside those of Regis Philbin, Woody Allen and Frank Sinatra. “I actually think it’s really, really good!” she raved to MTV News about the likeness. “I was looking close up: It’s like my eyebrows are for real, and it’s like my eyes are for real, and the bone structure of my chin, like, ‘Look, that’s my chin! That’s my jaw!’ “It’s incredible. It’s really incredible, and I think it’s so cool to be a part of the New York City part of the exhibit,” she added. “I was born and raised here, this is my home, so it’s so perfect.” It’s a particularly big day for Keys, as it was just announced she’s producing the Broadway play “Stick Fly.” Keys said she can’t believe she has her hand in something that will be playing on the Great White Way. “The piece is really about this beautiful African-American family in Martha’s Vineyard, and it is so deep,” she said of the play by Lydia R. Diamond. “It’s about all the secrets that families have, and it’s funny. What I love about it is it bypasses everything, and it’s all about family.” The singer, who is celebrating the 10-year anniversary of her breakout album Songs in A Minor, says that, as a New Yorker, getting on Broadway is living the dream. “Broadway is something that’s played an integral part in my life. It’s been something that I’ve experienced my whole life,” she said. “I’ve always wanted to be a part of it. You haven’t seen this family before on Broadway. It’s universal and at the same time unique.” Related Artists Alicia Keys
