Jay-Z Brings Brooklyn ‘Glory’ To Carnegie Hall

Jay performs his song to daughter Blue Ivy Carter and a host of other hits at the famed venue, with help from Alicia Keys and Nas. By Rob Markman Jay-Z performs at Carnegie Hall Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage NEW YORK — From Marcy to Madison Square and now from Crooklyn to Carnegie. Jay-Z has come a long way since releasing his 1996 debut, Reasonable Doubt, and the magnitude of his travels wasn’t lost on the God MC when he performed at Carnegie Hall on Monday evening (February 6). The swanky crowd filled the Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall for the first of two benefit concerts, which joined Jay’s Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation with the United Way of NYC to raise money for gifted high school students who aren’t financially positioned to attend college. The premium-priced charity tickets brought out the likes of Liza Minnelli and New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia. With a full orchestra that included ?uestlove and Young Guru playing DJ, Hov took the stage at 8:45 p.m. ET after a dramatic string build. Emerging from the stage’s side door in a white tux jacket toting a gold bottle of Ace of Spades champagne, Jigga began his evening shouting, “Allow me to reintroduce myself, my name is Hov,” the iconic opening line from 2003’s “Public Service Announcement.” Those who thought Jigga would conform to the stuffy artistic standard typically associated with the famed concert hall were mistaken. Jay strutted across the stage drinking from his gold bottle promising the crowd, “It’s just tea.” On this night, Hov pledged to eradicate the divide that separates musical genres, only differentiating between good and bad music. “All those lines that divide us, we gonna step on ’em,” he announced to the electric crowd. As he’s done most of his career, Jay continued to stomp out the misconceptions that rap can’t be considered highbrow art as he tore through radio hits and street favorites like “U Don’t Know” and “Where I’m From.” Jay did balance things out when he invited Alicia Keys onstage for “Empire State of Mind” but got extra-gritty on the very next song, making way for Nas to perform his own “N.Y. State of Mind” from the Queensbridge MC’s 1994 classic Illmatic. There was a perfect juxtaposition throughout. The biggest musical clash came when Jay performed the “Annie”-sampling “Hard Knock Life.” Jigga rapped the song’s verses, while the wealthy crowd song the downtrodden chorus. By the time Hova rolled into the set’s next song “Izzo,” a marijuana smell filled the air. That must be a first for Carnegie. Ever the master of ceremonies, the Brooklyn rap juggernaut slowed things down properly easing into “Girls, Girls, Girls,” then “Song Cry” and then “Glory,” the song he released days after the birth of his and Beyonc

Pussycat Dolls’ Post-Super Bowl Plans Include Kim Kardashian

Robin Antin talks to MTV News about Kardashian-produced PCD reality show. By Jocelyn Vena Robin Antin Photo: MTV News One day after the new Pussycat Dolls lineup debuted during a Go Daddy Super Bowl commercial, the Dolls are already working on their next small-screen project — and this time, it includes reality-TV queen Kim Kardashian. PCD creator Robin Antin stopped by the MTV Newsroom late last month, and she had some fun teases about what fans should expect from their in-the-works, forthcoming show. “We’re developing a reality show with Kim Kardashian as an executive producer and Nigel Lythgoe,” Antin said of Kim K. and the “American Idol” producer and “So You Think You Can Dance” judge. “He wanted to get into reality TV and was very interested in doing something with me. Obviously, with the Pussycat Dolls, he’s always been a big fan.” Antin appears on “So You Think You Can Dance” from time to time, and as for Kim, she performed as a Doll back in 2008. Also, Antin said, Kardashian “understands reality more than anyone I know.” “Kim is one of my best friends and has been for many, many years and so supportive and said, ‘I’d love to be a part of really showing your world, the empire of really what you have built and the world around you … and all the girls that revolve around that.’ ” With a new Doll lineup (which includes Chrystina Sayers from Girlicious, “So You Think You Can Dance” contestant Paula Van Oppen, Paradiso Girl and “Party Rock Anthem” collaborator Lauren Bennett, former Laker Girl Vanessa Curry and former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Erica Jenkins), Antin thinks now is as good a time as any to put their ups and downs on tape. “The engine of all Pussycat Dolls [projects] is the recording ground, and now having the new recording group, it made sense to focus on the launch of this new group and how that engine opens up all the doors for all the different things that I’m doing that are a part of the brand,” she said. “So it’s a really fun, interesting, wacky world inside what I do.” However, Antin noted, the show won’t be about catfights or exploiting the lows that come with the highs. “It’s not about showing all the drama and all the girls fighting,” she said. “I’m not interested in that — although the reality is, there are things that happen and we’re OK with showing the reality. We focus so much and want to inspire people to show that girls can work together and act like sisters and get along. And through dancing and singing, I want to inspire everyone. These girls are the next generation.” What do you want to see from a new PCD reality show? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Pussycat Dolls

M.I.A.’s Super Bowl Middle Finger And More: A Career Of Controversy

From her support of the Tamil Tigers to her politically charged music videos, M.I.A. has never shied away from controversy. By James Montgomery M.I.A. performs at the Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show Photo: Jeff Kravitz/Film Magic M.I.A.’s middle finger may currently be the most-discussed digit in America, dominating the post-Super Bowl chatter and earning swift rebukes from NBC and the NFL. But for those who’ve covered her career from the beginning, well, let’s just say this is basically par for the course. Because ever since M.I.A. first broke through in 2004, she’s courted controversy, first for her outspoken support of the Tamil Tigers , the Sri Lankan separatist organization that engaged in acts of terror and has been linked to the assassination of Sri Lankan and Indian leaders. That support and her overtly political lyrics led to her being denied a travel visa by the U.S. government and earned her a spot on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s risk list in 2006. So, really, a middle finger is no big thing. And over the past few years, she hasn’t exactly mellowed. In 2010, she raised eyebrows with the graphic video for “Born Free,” a clip that saw security forces (with American flags prominently displayed) round up red-headed citizens and summarily execute them in brutal fashion. It was a savage bit of socio-political commentary, though most missed that message entirely, focusing instead on the blood and guts, which earned the video a measure of YouTube ignominy and had < href=" http://"www.cnn.com/2010/SHOWBIZ/Music/04/27/mia.music.video/index.html?iref=allsearch" target="_blank"> critics howling . Her outspoken ways also drew the ire of both Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber fans, after she called Gaga “a good mimic” and said the content of “Born Free” was no less offensive than anything Bieber had churned out. And then, she launched a lengthy (and much-covered) offensive against New York Times writer Lynn Hirschberg, posting her phone number on Twitter and releasing a diss song called “I’m a Singer” after reading what she believed to be an unflattering feature in the Times . Though Hirschberg remained largely silent on the matter, the Times did eventually admit that a pair of M.I.A.’s quotes were rearranged in the piece. Finally, earlier this month, she unveiled the video for “Bad Girls,” which re-teamed her with “Born Free” director Romain Gavras and is loaded with socially (and politically) charged imagery, like women cloaked in burqas doing stunts in expensive cars as men in keffiyeh look on, smoldering oil fields and assault rifles. Joe Francis Threatens Lawsuit Against Madonna Over "Girls Gone Wild" Song

Sultan of sleaze Joe Francis is threatening to sue Madonna if she performs her new song called “Girls Gone Wild” at the Super Bowl tomorrow. Yes, really. Francis, creator of the infamous Girls Gone Wild franchise, in which he films drunk girls exposing themselves on spring break, is apparently dead serious. He has issued a cease and desist letter claiming he will take legal action against Madonna if she sings that particular song at this weekend’s festivities. The letter (sent to Madonna, NBC Universal and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell) from Francis’ Nevada lawyer David Houston, states that: “[Francis] became aware of Madonna’s new track based on the presales of her new album MDNA , as the #1 song on the album is ‘Girls Gone Wild.'” “Mr. Francis and Girls Gone Wild have worked tirelessly for an excess of two decades to build his brand and to protect his trademark Girls Gone Wild.” “Girls Gone Wild’s trade identity and trademark are both extremely valuable assets which my client must protect vigorously,” the letter continues. The letter claims Madonna has “violated Federal and State trademark laws by making unauthorized use of Mr. Francis’ trademark Girls Gone Wild.” For what it’s worth, it looks like she wasn’t going to sing it anyway. Madonna’s set list reportedly includes ” Give Me All Your Luvin’ ,” “Ray of Light” and “Vogue,” along with “Music” and “Holiday.” No GGW action. Houston tells E! News regarding the set list, “That would be a wise choice on her part.” Good luck getting it off the album and iTunes, though.

My name is Alex and this is My Bieber Experience! On August…

My name is Alex and this is My Bieber Experience! On August 28th, 2010 I went to Justin Bieber’s My World Tour date at the Prudential Center with two of my best friends, Christina and Casey! We didn’t have the best seats in the world, but just knowing we were in the same arena as Justin made it worth it! The concert was the best concert I’d ever seen! When it was coming to an end, we asked my mom if we could look for the stage door outside of the arena. She surprisingly agreed! When the concert ended, we walked around the arena for about 20 minutes and found a group of people behind barricades. We stood there for 15 minutes and a security guard called us over and told us he wasn’t coming out by this door, but if we kept walking around, we’d find a giant gate and that he’d probably be exiting there. We walked and found the gate. About 15 other girls were there so we were able to get a spot right up front. Another 20 minutes went by and about 100 other girls gathered around. At this point we were being pushed up against the gate. 10 minutes later, a camera crew came out and so did Justin’s band members. Then his dancers came out, and we talked to some of them! Antonio talked to us and took a video of us on his iPhone to show to Justin, so hopefully he saw it! The camera came around and filmed us too! Then out of no where, Pattie, Scooter, Allison and Kenny came out. And then Ryan Good came out with JUSTIN! I couldn’t believe it! He started walking up to the gate and came around and touched everyone’s hand! The second he touched mine was something I’ll never forget. The best moment ever! A few months later, on February 9th at the ‘NEVER SAY NEVER’ screening, the movie was ending and they showed that clip at the end when he touched our hands! I burst into tears! I couldn’t believe I was in NEVER SAY NEVER! Although I didn’t meet Justin, just being able to touch his hand and be in the movie was great enough! Thank You Justin, for showing me to Never Say Never!  The rest is here: My name is Alex and this is My Bieber Experience! On August…

Christi Lukasiak, Dance Moms Star, to Katherine Heigl: Suck It!

Feud alert! Christi Lukasiak, one of the mothers on Dance Moms , did not take kindly to Katherine Heigl’s criticism of the show, and is firing back with a vengeance. In an interview with Pittsburgh’s 100.7 Star, the hosts asked Christi what she thought about Heigl’s Dance Moms diss , in which the actress criticized the Lifetime show as “demeaning,” “belittling” to the girls and akin to “burlesque.” Chloe’s mom gave her a piece of her mind… “Well, very interesting,” Lukasiak said of the former Grey’s Anatomy star. “First of all, the music doesn’t seem all that adult. Second of all, I recall Katherine Heigl being in a movie about sleeping with an older man when she was about 12, so…” Oooh, that one stings! “And she doesn’t know that when I put my daughter to bed at night, you know, like, we have a long talk, and the kind of relationship I have with her,” Lukasiak adds. “I don’t let anybody mess with my kid. C’mon, have you seen the show? I’m constantly going to bat. I think if anybody fights for their kid, it’s me, you know?” Christi also shoots down any idea that she and the other mothers are “exploiting” kids, and instead argues that they are giving their girls a great opportunity. “Katherine Heigl can suck it,” radio host Bubba chimed in , emphatically. “Yeah, that’s what I say, but you said it, not me. I’m just agreeing,” Christi said. Back to you, Katherine …

Way Black When Honors: Lenny Williams

Read the rest here:

Even if you don’t know his name, you know his music. Lenny Williams’ classic ballad “Cause I Love You” has been sampled by everyone from Kanye West to Scarface and remains one of the most well-known love songs of the past thirty years. Fact: Lenny Williams won a BMI Award With Kanye West for Twista’s “Overnight Celebrity” The Arkansas-born California native was once the lead singer of the group Tower Of Power and has had much success as a solo artist. Now, thanks to Young Jeezy , a newer generation of music fans are being exposed to his music. On TM103  Young producer M-16 samples Williams “Let’s Talk It Over” for Jeezy’s latest hit “I Do,” The original song was released as a single in 1979 on MCA Records. “I thought it was going to be my follow-up to ‘Cause I love you’ and I was trying to do a similar song,” says Williams of the track. “But we ended up doing it a little faster than I wanted to at the end. So I couldn’t get my talking on. It’s a good song, I always felt it was kind of wasted and here it is all these years later and Jeezy found it. It’s exciting to see what touches people. It’s gotta be thirty years later and they found it. Their version has a lot of nice strings. They got me humming in the back. I love it.” “I Do, I Do” So with two of his songs anchoring hip-hop hits is there anything else he feels could get the sample treatment? “I always wondered why nobody ever sampled ‘Choosing You’ ,” he says. “Especially the New York rappers.  ‘Choosing You’ was  a #1 hit in New York on WBLS. It’s an uptempo song with the strings. I think Ray Parker, Jr. is playing on it and the guys from Lakeside are signing and playing on it.” “Choosing You” In addition to his considerable catalog from the 60s and 70s,  Williams has been recording new music as well. He released an album in 2009 called Unfinished Business with the hilarious “Sorry I Didn’t Know That Was Your Momma” , which he says is based on a true story. “I was at a club one night with the band and I was walking around on a break and I saw this table of ladies,” he begins. “I walk over and holla and you see they look like a certain age. But one of the girls at the table said ‘hey don’t be talkin like that to my momma.’ It’s interesting because momma had the little tattoo, the nose ring, earring, tongue ring…They dress like Beyonce and want you to treat ‘em like Eartha Kitt.” With stories like that it’s easy to see why Lenny Williams will have more music coming in 2012. In the meantime hit him up on Twitter @LennyWilliams

Kim Kardashian’s Self Shot Cleavage of the Day

Kim Kardashian is a fucking PORNSTAR …. I was in Vegas talking to people who run the porn industry and every single one of them told me that in order to release a porn you need to run shit by all kinds of regulatory boards, and every single model has to have her ID and a waiver signed….It is the law… Meaning if Kim Kardashian really was compromised and her video really stolen and not released in a scheme to make all the money she’s made….people would have been arrested. It’s a huge fucking joke, but not as much of a joke as her posting pics of her bra on twitter for attention….some sluts just never change…they keep getting fatter, older, dumpier…but they don’t change… On a side note….I also know the girl who is paid to write her twitter for her. Nice girl. This Kim Kardashian machine s idiotic and needs to crash like Otis Redding.

Ali Fedotowsky Bikini Ass of the Day

Jason Biggs from American Pie fame has a wife who I told on twitter that I wanted to give her an abortion with my tongue after she wrote on twitter something along the lines of “my favorite part of The Bachelor is when the girls equate getting fingered for love”…and despite hating most things most people say…I kinda agreed with her….not that I’ve ever seen any of these shows, but the concept of putting one dude in a house with a bunch of catty women, fighting for his “love”, only for him to choose one he loves at the end of the season, who he will contractually stay with for one year, when really it is just a quest for these useless whores to get on TV, is pretty fucking pathetic and really reminds us just how fucking weird our world is….where fags can’t get married, but TV can make a mockery of marriage with retards and sluts fighting for camera time, while America eats the bullshit up….it must have some real negative repercussions on our morals and values…provided we even have any…cuz I know I don’t… Here’s one of the cunt in a bikini…..
