Cali Swag District Call M-Bone Setup Rumor ‘Crazy’

‘It really hurts us,’ C-Smoove says on ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway “RapFix Live” with Cali Swag District Photo: MTV News Since the shooting death of Cali Swag District’s Mante “M-Bone” Talbert in May, rumors have swirled while his loved ones search for answers. Rumblings of jealous rivals and gang activity have surfaced, but what bothers CSD the most is a rumor that suggests the group’s surviving members had something to do with Bone’s death. “[There’s] nothing we can do about the rumors,” Yung said on Wednesday’s “RapFix Live.” “We can talk like we’re talking right now because it ain’t gonna change anything, but once it comes to the light, then we can breathe.” C-Smoove called the setup rumor “crazy.” “We made it together. We’ve been knowing that dude since we were kids,” he said. “It really hurts us and our label and the team. How could you believe something like that when we did everything together?” The setup theory is particularly baffling for the group, who emerged as stars from their Inglewood, California, neighborhood thanks to their 2010 hit single “Teach Me How to Dougie.” “We succeeded together, we got out the ‘Wood together. We had fun all the time, everything we did was to have fun because that’s what we do,” Smoove said. “We wanted to have fun and give the people what they wanted. And for people to think something like that, it’s just mind-boggling. How could you figure?” Yung added: “It’s crazy. We think about that all the time, like, how could you even think something like that? We’re family, we’re brothers. So we want the rumors to just stop.” Sound off about the M-Bone rumors in the comments below. ‘Skins’ Cast Talks Sex, Drugs And American Teens

MTV’s provocative new show is really about ‘the relationships, and that’s what teenagers relate to,’ star Sofia Black-D’Elia says. By Jocelyn Vena A scene from MTV’s “Skins” Photo: MTV At first glance, it might seem easy to boil down the teen drama “Skins” to a simple format: teens doing lots of drugs while having lots of sex and listening to lots of rock and roll. But the cast of MTV’s American version of the soapy U.K. show, which premiered on Monday night, say you’re not watching closely enough if that’s all you see. “I don’t think the sex and the drugs is really what’s prominent. … Throughout the season, what’s more important is the relationships, and that’s what teenagers relate to,” Sofia Black-D’Elia explained. ” ‘Skins’ isn’t about drugs and sex. ‘Skins’ is about best friends and growing up.” But it does raise the question: Are kids really that wild? “There definitely are kids like this that exist in America,” Daniel Flaherty, who plays Stanley, told MTV News recently. “There are those kids that love to party and go out and disobey their parents and do whatever they want and do take whatever pills and drugs, so not all of America is like that, but there’s definitely kids in America that are like that.” “Things like this certainly happen [in real life],” added James Newman, who plays Tony. “I don’t think they necessarily happen with the frequency that it happens on ‘Skins,’ but it’s TV and we want it to be entertaining and it helps from a standpoint on sex and drugs. It doesn’t happen as much, but I think as far as relationships the friends have with each other and the emotions, that stuff is dead-on, spot for spot what we went through in high school. … Anytime you see sex and drugs on ‘Skins,’ it’s about the story. It’s never that for the sake of that.” Britne Oldford plays Cadie, and she told us she hopes viewers will be able to relate to the characters. “I definitely hope that teens, even adults or parents that watch the show, take away a sense of security because, hey, maybe they’ll see someone who’s a lot like them going through the [same] situation,” she said. “And they won’t feel so alone. Everyone in the show is relatable to a certain extent.” What did you think of the first episode of “Skins”? Share your thoughts in the comments below! Just before the holidays ended, though, Ross returned once more to drop his mixtape Ashes to Ashes , which he later re-released, revamping the effort with joints from Drake and his MMG acquisitions Meek Mill and Wale. “I think it’s the beginning of a lot of big things to come,” Ross told Mixtape Daily about the collection. “So I wanted to give the people something before the year was out … because I have a new album I’m cooking up. … I feel like it’s a new beginning. “There’s a lot of things that got to go. And this is the beginning of some new things that [will] pop off in music. Some new sounds, some new styles, some new techniques, some new bosses. And that’s what it’s about.” Joints to Check For

From mixtapes to guest appearances to albums, the Miami MC is churning out quality work an incredible pace. The rapper just released his latest mixtape offering, Ashes to Ashes, over the holidays, but not even a week into the new year, he premiered the single from his next official project. Ross’ “Made Men,” featuring Drake, debuted on Tuesday morning (January 4) on New York hip-hop station Power 105 ‘s morning show, “The Breakfast Club.” The track is the first single from the Boss’ forthcoming album, God Forgives, I Don’t . (The title is the same as upstart Cory Gunz’s forthcoming EP .) “I just wanted to put some final touches on it,” Ross told show hosts DJ Evny, Angela Yee and Charlamagne tha God about why “Made Men” wasn’t included on his mixtape. “I’m back in the lab. Meek Mill, Wale, they back in the lab now. I’m working on my project. “It’s looking real good,” the rapper said of potentially signing newcomer Mill and Wale to his own Maybach Music Group. “We gonna be making that announcement soon.” On “Made Men,” Ross and Drake swap boastful rhymes about fast cars and fine women. “Two-door Bugatti coup, I call it Katy Perry,” Ross raps. “Wiz Khalifa papers, my favorite berries/ That ’65, I call it Rihanna/ It got a red top but it’s white like Madonna.” Drake slyly mirrors Ross’ rhymes, but he’s sure to get folks talking with his reference to former fling Rih-Rih. “Spending tomorrow money, I call it ma

Shawty Lo Calls Marriage Proposal Video Leak ‘All Good’

‘I didn’t know that many paparazzi was gonna be there,’ the Atlanta MC jokes to MTV News of friends posting clip online. By Shaheem Reid Shawty Lo Photo: MTV News Shawty Lo puts the “L-O” in L-O-V-E. The Atlanta fan favorite recently popped the question to his girlfriend of more than a decade, Ecreia Perez. To his surprise, video footage of his proposal was shot by one of the couple’s friends and posted on the Internet . “Believe it or not, I didn’t know that many paparazzi was gonna be there,” he laughed over the weekend in ATL. “But it ain’t no secret. It’s a beautiful thing. I’m very shy. That’s my longtime lady. We been together for 10 years so I felt like it was time. It was all good. I had a rooftop pool party for her birthday in Buckhead.” Lo confessed that before he pulled out the ring, he had to have a few gulps of liquid courage. “I was too nervous,” he explained. “I really don’t drink. Busta Rhymes And Hype Williams To Collaborate On ‘Stop The Party’ Video

‘We’re gonna give the people what they want,’ MC says of clip for his new single. By Shaheem Reid Busta Rhymes Photo: MTV News If anyone has the right to declare that hip-hop videos can go back to being mini-epics, it’s Busta Rhymes . The New York veteran has watched fellow Dream Team members Rick Ross (the F. Gary Gray-directed “Super High”) and Diddy (the Hype Williams-helmed “Hello Good Morning”) released big-budget videos. Now, he is ready to make his own massive spectacle with the video for his new single, “Stop The Party.” “We just confirmed the treatment,” Bus said this past weekend in Atlanta. “It’s looking like the big homie Hype Williams is coming to the table [to direct]. We’re looking to shoot it around the BET Awards weekend. So, we’re probably gonna shoot it around the end of the month.” Hype and Busta have created some of the most innovative — and expensive — videos in hip-hop history, including the clips for “What’s It Gonna Be?!” and “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See.” The video for “Stop The Party,” which Busta said will be shot in both New York and Los Angeles, will be in keeping with their earlier collaborations. “We’re gonna give the people what they want. I promise you we got something so special. That song’s taking such a life of its own. It feels like that classic, feel-good, ‘Busta Rhymes wild out the party’ energy. It was only right we brought the homie Hype back and we do something that falls in line with the other great videos that we done in the past.” Bus told MTV that even though the recession is still lingering, MCs should splurge a little bit to keep the excitement flowing. “I think it’s feeling like we’re in that timeframe where it’s a necessity for us to roll out our presentation like we value it and care about it as well,” he rationalized. “I think we got so caught up in the changing of the climate when the recession kicked in … the business suffered somewhat.” He also noted that the hard times have resulted in people becoming more self-reliant. “We were forced to be a lot more concerned with the cost-effectiveness to benefit the people in the Fortune 500 establishments, the major label situations instead of prioritizing the music,” he said. “It’s definitely back to a time where dudes [are] starting to take their own bread if necessary, and invest in themselves and investing in the lifeline of the culture, the whole entertainment aspect. It’s beneficial for us to raise the stock value again.” Do you have a favorite Busta Rhymes video? Sound off in the comments below! Related Artists Busta Rhymes Hype Williams

‘If they think ‘Beamer, Benz, or Bentley’ is it, wait until you hear my second and third official single,’ Banks warns. By Shaheem Reid Lloyd Banks Photo: MTV News Lloyd Banks says his club smash “Beamer, Benz, or Bentley” (and its remix) — is just the setup. Banks has a lot more material in the cooker. “This is gonna pave the way for my official second single,” Banks told MTV News last week. “We’re gonna hit it right on summer at the beginning. That’s gonna take us through the summer. I got the 50 Cent tour coming up; I’m gonna be on that joint. The first show is in Cleveland [on Friday].
