‘Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows’ Trailer: An Expert Analysis

MTV News breaks down the final film’s final trailer. By Eric Ditzian and Josh Wigler Daniel Radcliffe in the “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” trailer Photo: Warner Bros. The final “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” trailer has arrived, and after we wiped a stray tear from our eye, we dove into a bit of expert commentary — because the new footage is nothing short of epic! Hit play on the embedded video as we walk through some of the key moments in the trailer, then read on for a deeper exploration of the last “Potter” trailer before “Deathly Hallows, Part 2” hits theaters July 15. Watch Out, Mrs. Potter Right off the bat, we greet Harry’s mom, Lily Potter, just moments before she and her husband are going to die by Voldemort’s hand. This is a very critical scene in “Potter” mythology. We’ve seen flashbacks and memories of Harry’s childhood before, but it does seem “Part 2” is going to give us a full showing of what happened to Harry as very young boy. It’s sure to be a grisly moment. It’s a difficult scene to read, and it’s likely to be even more taxing to watch. This brief glimpse of Lily hints the new movie will not shy away from J.K. Rowling’s most grueling material. Everything has led to this. Quidditch Is No More There have been so many gargantuan action set pieces across the franchise, but this scene of the Quidditch field burning to the ground gives us a very clear picture of where the series is headed: from wizards and witches flying around on broomsticks to that venue for the game being destroyed. It’s all a result of the Battle of Hogwarts, the grand and terrifying throw-down near the film’s conclusion. Snape, You Rascal What to think about Severus Snape? He’s been a good guy and a Dumbledore-killing villain. In this scene, he most certainly is not in everyone’s good graces. Harry’s got a lot of anger to direct at Snape, seeing as he killed the boy wizard’s mentor. Here he finally gets to confront Snape — the first time since “Half-Blood Prince” that these two have come face to face. But give Snape some time. Without spoiling anything for those who have not read the book, Snape has some interesting things to share and a new side of himself to show off. Welcome Back, Gary This is one of the single most important scenes in the entire series. Harry is about to go off into the forest for a battle with Voldemort, and he’s greeted by the ghosts of pals’ past, thanks to the powers of the Resurrection Stone. One of them is Gary Oldman’s Sirius Black. Daniel Radcliffe has told MTV News on many occasions that this scene was the one he was dreading most. Did he have the chops to pull it off? But when it came time to shoot the scene, the actor behind Harry was relieved to have a legend like Oldman supporting him. It All Ends, Epically Overall, it’s hard not to note how epic the trailer is. You have warriors jumping and landing on one knee — that most badass of acrobatic big-screen landings. You have thousands of spells, like arrows out of “Braveheart,” soaring toward an embattled castle. You have dragons breathing fire and loads of people dying. It’s amazing to see how much is being revealed in the trailer. Yet at the same time, so much is still to come. There’s so much in store that it would be impossible to spoil everything. If you think this trailer is too filled with spoilers, you’re wrong! There’s a lot more that could be shown. And that’s proof the final film has absolutely everything you could want as a “Potter” fan. Who is the best “Harry Potter” character of all time? The “Harry Potter” World Cup will finally find out! Voting begins Monday over on the MTV Movies Blog , but you can get the debate started now on Twitter with the hashtag #mtvpottercup. Selena Gomez Vows ‘No More Nutella’ After Hospital Trip

‘I just need to take better care of myself,’ she tells MTV News. By Christina Garibaldi Selena Gomez Photo: MTV News Selena Gomez seems to have made a full recovery from her recent hospitalization for food poisoning and exhaustion. The young star has made several public appearances since the news broke, but it was on Thursday, when Gomez appeared on the “Kidd Kraddick in the Morning” radio show, that we learned what may have been the culprit behind her illness: junk food. “I do eat. The problem is, I don’t eat right,” Gomez said. “I love everything that’s possibly not good for me.” On Friday (June 17), MTV News caught up with Gomez as she promoted her new flick “Monte Carlo,” and while she assured us that she “feels much better,” she’s not completely ready to rid herself of unhealthy food just yet. “Well, not ever again; I am still 18,” Gomez said when asked if she would not be eating any more junk food. “But I just need to take better care of myself.” Yet, there is one food Gomez has decided to eliminate from her diet: Nutella. “No more Nutella, Leighton,” Gomez laughed to “Monte Carlo” co-star Leighton Meester. The two, who play stepsisters in the movie, spent two months overseas in France and Monte Carlo and seemed to have developed a strong liking for the hazelnut spread. “I know, I’m to blame for that,” Meester said of getting Gomez hooked. “On the whole movie, we had Nutella with everything — Nutella with fruit, Nutella with everything.” What were some of their favorite Nutella treats? “We had toast, Nutella and bananas every day on set,” Gomez said. “[We had it] like five times a day,” Meester added. “Monte Carlo” hits theaters July 1 and stars Gomez as a teenager vacationing in Paris, where she is mistaken for a British heiress. The movie also features Meester and “Glee” star Cory Monteith. Next up for Gomez, she will be hitting the road next month for her first headlining summer tour alongside Allstar Weekend and newcomer Christina Grimmie . Katy Perry’s ‘Last Friday Night’ Invite Thrills Hanson

‘We thought we could bring the party — even if it was a fictional party,’ Taylor Hanson tells MTV News of video cameo. By Jocelyn Vena Hanson Photo: Getty Images Katy Perry rounded up quite the cast of cameos for her “Last Friday Night” video . The Marc Klasfeld-directed clip featured “Glee” stars Darren Criss and Kevin McHale, “Friday” singer Rebecca Black, Kenny G, Debbie Gibson and Corey Feldman. Oh, yeah: It also had Hanson as the video’s house band! “We were flattered to be asked, and it was great to be a part of it,” Taylor Hanson told MTV News on Tuesday (June 14). “We had a really good time. It was one of those things that worked out really well. They said [they] needed a band to play the party, and we thought we could bring the party — even if it was a fictional party. “First of all, Kenny G’s an icon, so it was pretty awesome to, in some ways, have been able to perform together,” Taylor continued. “And, again, there’s a little bit of the tongue-in-cheek element to the entire concept of the video. We went in there without taking it too seriously. [Kenny G] was a scholar and gentleman, and it seemed like Katy was fulfilling the idea. She seemed like she was pretty happy with how things were coming together.” Taylor said it was hard to get Perry out of character as the geeky Kathy Beth Terry on set. “She was completely in character and to the point of like, ‘OK, where does Katy Perry begin and this character end?’ ” he recalled. “And, honestly, it seemed like she kind of is a Method person. She seems like she goes in all the way. So we hung out a little bit, and during the performance and everything, obviously, we were all there on set, but she was definitely inside of the character throughout the shoot, which sounds tiring to me.” So what would it take to get the guys to play your house party? “We work for Twizzlers and good times,” Taylor said. “You’d have to have a lot of spandex, a huge tree covered in toilet paper, Kenny G — apparently that’s what it takes to get us to a house party.” And now Katy owes the brothers a cameo in their next video. “I think she has some obligation to spread the love on the next round,” he said. “I don’t know. … We might have to come up with another character.” What did you think of Hanson’s cameo in Katy’s new video? Is ‘Glee’ In NKOTBSB’s Future?

‘There seems to be a rush of pop stars who are just stumbling over themselves to be on ‘Glee,’ ‘ Donnie Wahlberg tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena NKOTBSB’s Donnie Wahlberg, Danny Wood, Howie Dorough and Brian Littrell Photo: MTV News After a full show dedicated to their pop contemporary Britney Spears, NKOTBSB’s music (or their individual songs as New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys) seems like a perfect fit for “Glee.” And considering that “Glee” star Matthew Morrison will be joining the boy-band supergroup on tour later this summer, perhaps now is the right time to get some of their classic pop tunes on the hit Fox show. “I think it would be probably flattering to be on ‘Glee,’ but there seems to be like a rush of pop stars who are just stumbling over themselves to be on ‘Glee,’ ” New Kids’ Donnie Wahlberg told MTV News backstage at the Izod Center before they took the stage later that night. He added that it would have to be the perfect scenario to make it all work out for the guys. “I think if we found a way, collectively, it would be wonderful. It would be a treat, an honor,” he said. “It would be wonderful for a lot of our fans. I think we’re so focused on the tour … it would be a wonderful treat, but we’re doing this.” While the fate of their music on the show is open to debate, Backstreet Boys’ Brian Littrell seemed pretty open to putting his acting chops to work instead. He even had a character in mind should a cameo scenario work itself out. “I’m a character. I’ll play anybody,” he said. “I’ll play the shady-looking youth minister. Coming from the Bible Belt, it’s creepy.” Which New Kids or Backstreet song would you want to hear on “Glee”? Share your ideas in the comments! Related Artists NKOTBSB

The Real Housewives of New York City Recap: The Epic Moroccan Trilogy Concludes

Tears. Lots of tears. That’s what happens when things spiral out of control between Jill and Ramona . It’s the aftermath of their battle as The Real Housewives of New York City continue their Moroccan adventure. THG’s +/- recap breaks it down: “That will be a day rotting in hell before I kiss that woman’s ass.” Jill cries. Jill’s upset but then Luann jumps in saying she won’t let that happen. Then she storms off to find Ramona. Minus 7 for taking sides without having been in the room. Alex describes Luann as acting as though she were watching the Christians being fed to the lions and although I was taken aback by the description, I can’t disagree with it. Luann reacts with a strange combination of judgement, condescension, and glee.

Tech N9ne Meets And Greets Fans At All 6’s And 7’s Signing

‘The line was wrapped around the block, like it always is. It’s a blessing,’ Tech says of event held in his Missouri hometown. By Rob Markman Tech N9ne Photo: Getty INDEPENDENCE, Missouri — Tech N9ne didn’t go mainstream, mainstream went Tech. That was the battle cry on Tuesday in KCMO, when hometown hero Tech N9ne released his sixth solo album, All 6’s and 7’s. The album, which features guest verses from popular artists like Lil Wayne, T-Pain, Snoop Dogg and Busta Rhymes, lured Kansas City fans, who lined up outside an Independence, Missouri, FYE record store for a scheduled meet-and-greet with Tecca Nina. “It’s just inspiring to me to see that we have that many hip-hop fans in Kansas City,” KC’s Hot 103 Jamz radio personality Brooklyn Martino said after the signing, which brought out more than a thousand fans. “Today, there was a constant line the whole day, and it was amazing because you see how many fans come out and appreciate the type of music that he gives Kansas City. He’s constantly giving us good music and the country has now recognized it, and it is really awesome and inspiring to the city.” Tech, who started signing autographs at the store at 3 p.m. CT, continued to meet with fans up until 9:30 p.m., only taking a seven-minute dinner break at around 8 p.m. “The line was wrapped around the block, like it always is. It’s a blessing,” Tech told MTV News. “I stand up the whole time to greet my fans. I don’t like sitting down in between a table, so it makes it harder to stand up and greet everybody how they come, but that’s how I like doing it. The day as a whole, it was successful. The album is selling really good everywhere. I’m tired as hell, but I’m proud at the same time.” “I mean the world to them because they know I’m inside out, I give them everything,” Tech, who is in the midst of an 82-city tour , said. “They know that I push real hard to give them what they want, musically, performance-wise, everything — I open all the way up. That’s why people call me a cult leader, because my fanbase is so hard-core and so devoted to the Tech N9ne, Strange Music movement.” Strange Music is the independent label that Tech has been releasing music on since establishing the business in 1999 with his business partner Travis O’Guin. In 2009, it was revealed that the label earned approximately $15 million, thanks to the support of Tech’s fans, who call themselves “Technicians” and have drawn comparisons to the famed Juggalo fans that support Insane Clown Posse. “I definitely deem today a success,” O’Guin said of the All 6’s and 7’s drop. Since being released, the star-studded LP has remained in the iTunes top three albums alongside Adele’s 21 and Dirty Work’s All Time Low. “I can give a sh– about a chart position,” O’Guin said. “A fan telling me that they love the album means more than them little glass trophies. The people, I think, genuinely love the album.” Related Artists Tech N9ne

Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Holds On To #1 Billboard Spot

BTW sales drop 84 percent, while Death Cab for Cutie debut at #3 with Codes and Keys. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga Photo: Credit KCSPresse / Splash News What a difference a week — and a price higher than 99 cents — makes. While Lady Gaga will hold on to the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart this week, sales for Born This Way were down a whopping 84 percent in its second go-round, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan, plummeting from more than 1.1 million to just over 174,000. That put Mother Monster within sight of the 1.3 million mark, while the unstoppable Adele held the #2 spot with 21, which moved another 121,000 to push over the 2 million mark. There are plenty of other new faces in the top 10, with Death Cab for Cutie crashing in at #3 with Codes and Keys (102,000), Eddie Vedder just behind with his sedate solo effort Ukulele Songs (71,000) and Kentucky rockers My Morning Jacket notching their highest debut yet at #5 with Circuital (55,000). The other newbie in the mix is Flogging Molly ‘s Speed of Darkness, which lands at #9 thanks to sales of 25,000. The rest of the top 10: Brad Paisley ‘s This Is Country Music (#6, 53,000), NOW 38 (#7, 39,000), Jason Aldean ‘s My Kinda Party (#8, 33,000) and “Glee”: The Music, Volume 6 (#10, 25,000). A number of hyped albums suffer double-digit dips including the self-titled boy band supergroup’s NKOTBSB (down 15 spots and 63 percent, #22), the Beastie Boys ‘ Hot Sauce Committee Part 2 (down 12 spots and 29 percent) and Lonely Island ‘s Turtleneck & Chain (down 14 spots and 30 percent). Gaga couldn’t knock Adele off the top of the iTunes singles and albums charts, with 21 holding the top spot above Born This Way, followed by Death Cab, Vedder, My Morning Jacket, Paisley, Mumford & Sons’ Sigh No More, “American Idol” champ Scotty McCreery’s season 10 digital highlights album, buzz band Foster the People’s Torches and Flogging Molly. While Gaga has already released a blizzard of singles to date, Adele’s first, and so far only, single, “Rolling in the Deep,” continues to sit atop the iTunes singles tally, holding off Pitbull’s “Give Me Everything,” Gaga’s “The Edge of Glory,” LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” and Lil Wayne’s “How to Love.” Another Young Money member, Nicki Minaj, is in the #6 slot with “Super Bass,” outpacing Bruno Mars’ “The Lazy Song,” DJ Khaled’s “I’m the One,” Jennifer Lopez’s “On the Floor” and Lupe Fiasco’s “The Show Goes On.” Things are likely to stay static at the top next week as the major new releases include albums from Britain’s Arctic Monkeys , country singer Ronnie Dunn and underground rapper Tech N9ne . Lady Gaga Fans Launch Twitter War With Black Keys Drummer

Patrick Carney earned the wrath of Little Monsters by comparing Gaga to Madonna on Twitter. By James Montgomery Lady Gaga Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney is a man who seems to grasp the power and purpose of Twitter — namely, using it to mess with Bravo TV star Bethenny Frankel and profess his love for condiments . So it was probably a bit of a shock when, after writing a seemingly innocuous tweet about Lady Gaga, he bore the full brunt of her (very angry) Little Monsters. It all started last month, when Carney sized up Gaga’s “Saturday Night Live” performance by writing , simply, “Madonna is killing it!” The comment went largely unnoticed by Gaga’s fans, and Carney returned to important things like tweeting with Ke$ha about shrimp. But then, he dared to compare Gaga to Madonna once again, and, to borrow a phrase from Calvin Tran , “Oh, here go hell come.” Gaga’s fans picked up on the tweet, and soon began inundating Carney’s Twitter account with a steady torrent of vicious hate that quickly escalated to a full-on downpour of acrimony. So, he did what any self-respecting Twitter-head would do: retweeted the best of the worst. In fact, all day Monday (June 6), Carney’s Twitter account was nothing but a stream of profanity-laced, poorly-punctuated vitriol from Little Monsters, who called him “an ugly ass bitch,” compared him to “the kid in the wheelchair on ‘Glee’ ” and even threatened him with bodily harm. For his part, Carney helped stoke the flames by pointing out that Gaga’s anti-bullying message didn’t really seem to be translating to her fans. “Hey, little monsters! Everyone knows lady gaga sounds nothing at all like Madonna. I was joking! I am so depressed,” he wrote , adding that he was heading to Red Lobster. The tweets don’t seem to be losing steam too quickly. As of Tuesday morning (June 7), Carney was still RT’ing some of the zestier messages he’d received from Gaga fans, and he summed up the whole experience by complaining that @Bethenny had replied to one of his brother’s tweets, but not his (link), proving that, much like life, the Twitter-verse is, in fact, cyclical.
