Gwyneth Paltrow To Host ‘Saturday Night Live’

‘Country Strong’ star and musical guest Cee Lo will appear on January 15 episode. By Eric Ditzian Gwyneth Paltrow Photo: Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic After Jim Carrey opens up the 2011 run of “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, Gwyneth Paltrow will take over hosting duties on January 15, NBC announced on Tuesday (January 4). The appearance will mark the Oscar-winning actress’ third time hosting “SNL” and comes as she’s promoting her musical drama, “Country Strong,” which expands into a wide release this Friday. Paltrow will be joined by musical guest Cee Lo , whose hit single, “F— You,” she covered to wide acclaim on “Glee” last year. “I really am just flattered … that not only ‘Glee’ [covered it], but it was Gwyneth [singing],” Cee Lo told MTV News last November. “I didn’t realize when we first did the clearances for it. I just thought that maybe it would be sung by the cast, but [it] turns out to be her. I’m like, ‘That’s just, that’s too awesome.’ ” Paltrow has put her musical talents front and center in recent months. In addition to “Country Strong” and her turn on “Glee” (where she also performed a mash-up of Rihanna’s “Umbrella” and “Singin’ in the Rain”), the actress performed at the Country Music Awards in November and has already booked a return trip to “Glee.” She’s even discussed the possibility of making an entire country album. “I think if I was going to make a country record, it would be like a super-bare, kind of stripped-back kind of country,” Paltrow told MTV News. “Like a little bit of bluegrass-influenced kind of thing.” Related Videos MTV Rough Cut: ‘Country Strong’ MTV News Extended Play: Cee Lo Related Photos The Evolution Of: Gwyneth Paltrow Related Artists Gwyneth Paltrow Cee Lo Green

James Franco in Howl and 5 Other Favorite Movie Beatniks

While James Franco’s performance in 127 Hours has him on the likely-to-be-nominated list this year, his other real-life turn — as Beat poet Allen Ginsberg in Howl (out this week from Oscilloscope Laboratories) — deserves as much praise, even if the film itself was little-seen. The narrative debut of documentary filmmakers Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman ( The Times of Harvey Milk , The Celluloid Closet ), Howl succeeds both at capturing the milieu in which Ginsberg wrote his most famous work and at bringing the poem itself to dazzling, cinematic life. So with Howl (one of my favorite films of 2010) coming to DVD and a long-awaited film adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s On the Road slated to hit later this year from director Walter Salles, here’s a few of our favorite big-screen beatniks.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Cee Lo Might Crash SNL

Just days after Cee Lo revealed that he would gladly team up with Gwyneth Paltrow, despite her work covering “F*ck You” for Glee , the Country Strong star says she might appear with the Grammy-nominated singer on this weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live . “We’re sort of emailing each other, we don’t know where that’s gonna go,” said Paltrow. “But I am such a big fan of Cee Lo, he is so gorgeous and talented and amazing.” Whatever that means. For reference, Jim Carrey is hosting this weekend with musical guest The Black Keys. Stay (unfortunately) tuned. [ NYP ]

F*ck You: Cee-Lo Says He’ll Work With Gwyneth Paltrow

2010 couldn’t shuffle off without one last prison yard shiv to the kidneys, could it? It turns out that Cee-Lo was so happy with Gwyneth Paltrow’s rendition of “F*ck You” on Glee (rechristened “Forget You” for television purposes) that he wants to work with the Oscar winner on a new project. “We’ve been considering a few things actually. You know, we’ll see what pans out. It’s a little too early to commit to a statement and I won’t ruin the surprise because whatever we’re going to do is going to be extra cool.” That’s one way to put it. Here’s hoping 2011 doesn’t start with a story about Cee-Lo getting together with Taylor Momsen . [ E! ]

Matthew Morrison Calls Lindsay Lohan ‘Fair Game’ For ‘Glee’ Jabs

‘I don’t think anyone gets away from the ‘Glee’ scathing,’ Morrison tells ‘Access Hollywood’ about recent episode’s Lohan ribbing. By James Dinh Matthew Morrison Photo: Jemal Countess/Getty Images Lindsay Lohan’s trials and tribulations have landed the starlet at the center of sideswipe jokes and as inspiration for future films. While the actress may not be too pleased with the wisecracking and mockery, “Glee” star Matthew Morrison thinks the 24-year-old actress should lighten up a bit. “Access Hollywood” recently caught up with the “Glee” actor, who admitted that his show’s recent Lohan sideswipe is just another instance of the series’ usual humor, which often intertwines pop culture references. “You know, when it comes to ‘Glee,’ I think everyone is fair game,” Morrison told host Maria Menounos. “We poke fun at ourselves all the time. I don’t think anyone really gets away from the ‘Glee’ scathing.” He then added, “Sorry Lindsay.” Just last month, Lohan’s mother, Dina, slammed the aforementioned “Glee” episode, which featured guest star Gwyneth Paltrow’s character, Holly Holliday, poking fun at the troubled star. During the scene, Holliday gives a lecture in which she says, “Lindsey [sic] Lohan is totally crazy, right?” in Spanish. The ridicule continues when Holliday quizzes the class on numbers by asking, “How many times has Lindsay Lohan been to rehab?” Dina told Radar Online that her daughter was deeply hurt by the show and Paltrow’s participation in it. “Lindsay is so upset with Gwyneth,” Dina said. “Lindsay was watching it while in [the] Betty Ford [rehab center], then she called me and was upset and said, ‘Why did she have to do that?’ We are the first to make fun of ourselves in our family. And Lindsay has even done ‘SNL’ a few times, but Gwyneth went overboard and it was unnecessary.” While Morrison didn’t express too much sympathy for Lohan, he did gush about Katie Couric’s guest-starring role on the highly anticipated post-Super Bowl episode of “Glee.” When asked about the news anchor’s upcoming appearance, the “Glee” star described working with Couric as “awesome.” He then shared, “We did this impromptu dance together. She showed me this thing called the pretzel,” before demonstrating the maneuver to Menounos. Morrison revealed that Couric plays herself on the episode and makes a visit to McKinley High to interview Sue Sylvester (played by Jane Lynch) as part of a “20 Biggest Losers of the Year” assignment. “I can’t give away too much because there’s so many amazing lines that Jane has in that scene,” he explained. “The last one is the best, but I can’t say it. But yeah, [Couric] played herself. She was so much fun. I love her. She’s such a great energy.” Do you think Lindsay has a right to get upset over the “Glee” jabs? It Doesn’t Get Better: Richard Chamberlain Thinks Gay Actors Should Stay in the Closet

Much was made in recent weeks about the sexuality of John Travolta and Kevin Spacey , but whatever their preference, one actor thinks they should continue to keep that bit of personal information personal. “For an actor to be working is a kind of miracle, because most actors aren’t, so it’s just silly for a working actor to say, ‘Oh, I don’t care if anybody knows I’m gay’ — especially if you’re a leading man,” Richard Chamberlain told The Advocate . “Personally, I wouldn’t advise a gay leading man-type actor to come out.”
