MN professor eviscerates Lord Monckton’s climate disinformation in must-see video

“The number of errors Chris Monckton makes is so enormous it would take a thesis to go through every single one of them.” The Viscount Monckton of Brenchley (TVMOB) is a shameless purveyor of hate speech and anti-science disinformation (see links below). Nonetheless, you rarely sees such a thorough debunking of an anti-science disinformer as this astonishing point-by-point evisceration put together by John Abraham, an engineering professor at St. Thomas University in St. Paul, MN. One of the two reasons you rarely see this is because few people are willing to put in the time and effort that Prof. Abraham has — not merely looking up just about every reference TVMOB uses but actually e-mailing the authors of those scientific papers and asking them if TVMOB has accurately represented their work. The second reason you rarely see this kind of thorough dismantlement is that few people make stuff up with the relentlessness of TVMOB or push the kind of hate speech that make people want to debunk them entirely: •Lord Monckton meltdown: “I’m not going to shake the hands of Hitler youth.” •TVMOB hate speech shocker: Lord Monckton repeats and expands on his charge that those who embrace climate science are “Hitler youth” and fascists. •TVMOB shocker: Activists decried as “Hitler Youth” for crashing Americans For Prosperity’s global warming event in Copenhagen •How to diss-a-peer: Real Climate Scientists take on TVMOB •Deltoid at ScienceBlogs: Monckton’s triple counting and here. •Irony-gate 2: Modern day Tea Partiers outsource denial to Lord Monckton — a British peer! •Climate Crock takes on Lord Monckton aka TVMOB •Climate Crock takes on Lord Monckton, Part 2 Kudos to Abraham for this masterful debunking. http://www.stthomas.edu/engineering/jpabraham/ added by: JanforGore

Environmental Campaigner Swims Across Everest Glacial Lake

Lewis Gordon Pugh is a 40-year-old lawyer from Devon. He is an environmental campaigner who swum 1kilometers (0.62miles) across a glacial lake on Mount Everest to highlight the impact of global warming. Pugh wore only swimming trunks, goggles and swimming hat when he swum the 2C waters of Pumori Lake at 17,000 feet (5.300meters). He looks forward to bring the “world’s attention” to the melting of glaciers and its effect on the region. He has been nicknamed as the “human polar bear” for his cold water swims. He has completed the swim near the Khumbu Glacier in just 22 minutes and 51 seconds. He has already swum in Antarctica and across the North Pole to get attention to melting sea ice. On his latest trip, he experienced altitude sickness and freezing conditions. He said: “It’s one of the hardest swims I’ve ever undertaken. When I swam in Antarctica and across the North Pole I swam with speed and aggression but on Mount Everest you can’t use the same tactics. Because of the altitude you need to swim very slowly and deliberately. Swimming 20 meters at full speed in the test swim, I felt I was going to drown. I was gasping for air and if I had swum any faster I would have gone under.” Lewis Gordon Pugh is deeply concerned on how to find a delicate balance whether he’s going too fast or too slow, because this could cause him to get hypothermia. He advocates government to make tackling climate change as a priority because he has witnessed glaciers around the world and many were slowly melting away. China beating US on green tech

China has overtaken the US for the first time in a league table of investments in low-carbon energy among the G-20, according to a new report by not for profit group the Pew Charitable Trusts published this week. The report found that despite an overall 6.6 per cent global decline in clean energy investments last year, China invested almost twice as much as the United States in clean energy during 2009. Pew blamed the worst financial downturn in over half a century for the reduction in clean techinvestments, but echoed growing confidence in the sector, predicting investments will bounce nback to around $200bn this year. The report, entitled Who's Winning the Clean Energy Race?, said that last year China invested $34.6bn in the clean energy economy, placing it top of the clean energy investment league and well ahead of the US in second place with investment of $18.6bn. Phyllis Cuttino, director of Pew Environment Group's US Global Warming Campaign, criticised the US government for failing to deliver stronger national policies to support renewable energy. “I'm worried that we are going to fall further down the list next year,” she said. “We really need to pass policy.” The US administration has been locked in a year long battle to pass a climate change bill that would impose a national carbon pricing mechanism and introduce new incentives for low carbon projects. However, the bill has faced staunch opposition from Republicans and some Democrats and while a compromise version of the legislation is expected to be unveiled in the next few weeks commentators remain sceptical that the bill can pass this year. The Pew report also expressed concern about America's competitive position in the clean energy marketplace, noting that relative to the size of its economy the US clean energy finance and investments lag behind many of its G20 partners. more at link… added by: WakeUpPeople

Glenn Beck Responds To James Cameron Beef

Fox News host mocks the ‘Avatar’ director for challenging him to global warming debate. By Jocelyn Vena James Cameron and Glenn Beck Photo: Getty Images/ MTV News On Wednesday night, Fox News host Glenn Beck fired back at James Cameron for verbal shots he’d taken at him at an “Avatar” DVD press conference Tuesday. Cameron had taken issue with Beck calling him “the Antichrist” years before and challenged the conservative newsman to a public discussion about several topics, including global warming. In Beck’s response , he mocked Cameron by taking out a pair of cardboard 3-D glasses. “The following segment is a Fox television first — it’s Fox News 3-D,” he said. “Yes, James, I am guilty. I did call James Cameron the Antichrist. But only because of the Celine Dion song. Horrific. Really. But the best part is, this guy has carried this joke around for three long years. “This guy is making a billion dollars on a Smurf-murdering movie and he’s stewing about a joke that nobody heard on a network nobody watched!” Beck said, referring to comments he’d made about the director on a CNN special in 2007. It’s time to walk away from the CGI, Jim. Just for a minute. “I don’t think he’s just upset with me, though,” Beck said, addressing the viewers. “He’s also upset with you too. Because you’re a global warming denier.” On Tuesday, Cameron called Beck “a f—ing a–hole” and a “madman.” He also broadened his criticism to other conservatives who refuse to acknowledge the threat of climate change. “I want to call those deniers out into the street at high noon and shoot it out with those boneheads,” Cameron said. “Anybody that is a global-warming denier at this point in time has got their head so deeply up their a–, I’m not sure they could hear me.” Would you like to see a debate between Beck and Cameron? The sea devours a disputed island – Bangladesh and climate change

The world is changing. Our atmosphere changes and our climate, as a result, does too. But also now, topographically, oru changing climate is beginning to alter our world. For the last few years island nations like the Maldvies have tried to raise awareness of the threat they face because of rising sea levels. And today, user WakeUpPeople clipped this story about global warming and geopolitics: Island disputed by India and Bangladesh has now been claimed by the sea. Map from FP Passport New Moore Island (or South Talpatti), has been disputed for over three decades. Now it's simply no longer there. It's only part of the incredible loss of land seen in the Bay of Bengal over the last few years. Vanguard's Adam Yamaguchi was in Bangladesh three years ago to see how the ocean was literally eating away the country year by year. added by: afitzgerald

New Moore Island Gone at Bay of Bengal

The countries Bangladesh and India have been fighting for thirty years over the ownership New Moore Island which lies at the heart of the Bay of Bengal. This very long debate was ceased by New Moore Island being swallowed by the Bay of Bengal due to the alarming rate of rising water levels due to Global Warming. According to the latest news, no more New Moore Island exists and it is now at the heart of the Bay of Bengal deep under it. In a report, Professor Hazra said that the New Moore Island has entirely sunk which was confirmed by sea patrons and satellite images from the sea. She also said that, “What these two countries could not achieve from years of talking has been resolved by global warming.” Global Warming has really taken its toll as the sea levels at the Bay of Bengal have been increasing for about 3 millimeters annually until 2000 and a very alarming 5 millimeters per year from then on to present. According to reports, not only the New Moore Island or South Talpatti Island banished but also around ten smaller islands surrounding it are in danger of being swallowed by the waters of the Bay of Bengal. Bottle-Boat Plastiki Sets Sail Across Pacific

The bottle-boat named Plastiki has already set sail into the Pacific. It is 60-foot (20m) catamaran made out of 12,500 reclaimed plastic bottles and other recycled PET plastic and waste products. They will sail from San Francisco to Sydney to spread awareness about pollution in the world’s oceans. David De Rothschild an environmentalist and expedition leader together with Co-skipper David Thompson, expedition diver Olav Heyerdahl, filmmakers Max Jourdan and Vern Moen will sail for 3 months passing the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. The expedition has an aim to promote awareness of the amount of garbage disposed in our ocean and how it has greatly affect our environment as evidenced by current sea level rise, ocean acidification and marine pollution.
