With the “Harry Potter” film series winding down, fans rushed to theaters to give the wizard adventure series a huge send-off. The seventh movie in the fantasy franchise, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1,” opened with a fairy-tale figure of $125.1 million over the weekend. The flick powered through the past two days with stunning momentum, picking up $24 million at midnight screenings Friday and zooming to $61 million by the end of the day. The tally sets a record for the series, blasting through the previous “Harry Potter” opening-weekend, box-office benchmark of $102.7 million set by 2005’s “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.” “Megamind” continued its comfortable fun in the top five, finishing the weekend in second place. The Will Ferrell and Tina Fey comedy about the antics of a CG supervillain rang up $16.2 million. The movie’s total estimated haul now stands at about $109 million. “Unstoppable,” arrived in third place. Audiences shelled out $13.1 million over the weekend to catch Denzel Washington and Chris Pine’s runaway-train thriller. The film’s tally now stands at around $42 million after its second weekend in theaters. “Due Date” wrapped up the weekend in fourth place. The comedic pairing of Zach Galifianakis and Robert Downey Jr. netted about $9.2 million, which bumps this film’s total gross to around $72 million. Russell Crowe and Elizabeth Banks’ jailbreak action flick, “The Next Three Days,” hit theaters in fifth place. Moviegoers plunked down around $6.8 million during the film’s debut weekend. Somehow, I had never seen a Harry Potter movie before yesterday. Continuing through today I will watch all six films leading up to tonight’s preview screening of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 . And I will liveblog the entire experience because, well, why not? I’ll be checking the comments if you have any words of explanation or encouragement. Sorcerer’s Stone , Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban are down; let’s resume with chapter four, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire .

Taylor Lautner Is ‘So Excited’ To Start Filming ‘Abduction’ This Week

By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Taylor Lautner Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images While fans know Taylor Lautner best for his hunky werewolf role in “The Twilight Saga,” Jacob Black is taking on a whole new persona for “Abduction,” the upcoming thriller from director John Singleton set to begin filming in a matter of days. “I start [shooting the movie] in, like, three days,” Lautner told MTV News on the black carpet of the L.A. premiere of “Eclipse” Thursday night (June 24). “I have a day off tomorrow, I go to New York the next day, and then I go to Pittsburgh. I’m so excited!” In “Abduction,” Lautner stars as a young teenager who discovers a stunning secret: The parents who have raised him his entire life are not his birth parents. When Lautner’s character reaches out to his real parents, he finds himself sucked into a deadly world filled with espionage. In addition to its thrilling story, “Abduction” boasts an impressive cast, including Lily Collins , Alfred Molina, Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs and Maria Bello. “This is a very real action thriller,” Lautner said. “It has a great story and a great cast.” In addition to his “Twilight” responsibilities and his impending turn in “Abduction,” Lautner’s upcoming film slate also includes the starring role in “Stretch Armstrong.” One project he’s not attached to is “The Butcherhouse Chronicles,” despite an extensive IMDb page suggesting his involvement alongside “Glee” actress Lea Michele. “Sorry, I don’t [have any idea],” Lautner said when asked about his involvement with the film. “Let’s set the record straight: No ‘Butcherhouse!’ ” The actor said he’s currently committed to filming “Abduction,” “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” and “Stretch Armstrong,” in that order. “Butcherhouse” or not, there’s no question that fans of Team Jacob will enjoy the young actor’s big-screen presence for several years to come. J. K. Rowling Faces Plagiarism Lawsuit in Harry Potter Book 4 – The popular author behind the even more popular Harry Potter book series, J. K. Rowling, is currently facing a plagiarism lawsuit filed by the estate of Adrian Jacobs. According to the filed plagiarism lawsuit, J. K. Rowling allegedly stole ideas from the late Adrian Jacob’s book, “The Adventures of Willy and the Wizard” and used these stolen ideas in her fourth book, “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The plagiarism lawsuit filed against J. K. Rowling was made last Wednesday in London Court. According to Max Markson, the the lawsuit filed is estimated as a billion-dollar case. So far, the side of J. K. Rowling has not made any comments regarding the plagiarism lawsuit. J. K.
