Lolo Jones may be without an Olympic medal, but she is not without controversy or headlines. The sprinter – who lost out on Gold in the 100-meter hurdles when she hit an obstacle on the home stretch and who then finished in fourth place by a tenth of a second yesterday – was the subject of a feature in The New York Times Sunday. And it was far from flattering. The article claimed that Jones “has decided she will be whatever anyone wants her to be – vixen, virgin, victim – to draw attention to herself and the many products she endorses,” referencing the fact that Jones has played up her virginity and her looks over the past few weeks. Appearing on The Today Show this morning, the athlete fought back tears and labeled the piece of journalism a “crazy misogynist hit piece.” “They should be supporting our U.S. Olympic athletes,” Jones told Savannah Guthrie of the newspaper. “Instead they just ripped me to shreds. I just thought that it was crazy because I worked six days a week, every day for four years for a 12-second race.” The Times also compared Jones to Anna Kournikova, a retired tennis player who got a lot of attention for her looks… yet never actually won a single tournament. Faced with that charge, Lolo points to her resume. “I have the American record. I’m the American record-holder indoors. Just because I don’t boast about these things, I don’t think I should be ripped apart by media. I laid it out there, fought hard for my country and it’s just a shame that I have to deal with so much backlash when I’m already so brokenhearted as it is.”
Misty May Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings took to the beach volleyball court in London today looking to accomplish a truly astounding feat: Winning three consecutive Gold Medals, all while remaining undefeated overall in Olympic play – and only dropping a single set over the course of three Games. Did the duo complete this goal? They took on the team of Jennifer Kessy and April Ross in the finals, meaning the podium would be filled with Stars and Stripes regardless of the outcome. Treanor and Jennings won the Gold with a 21-15, 21-16 victory that cements their legend as two of the greatest Olympians of all-time. Aly Raisman has ceded much of the attention to teammate Gabby Douglas at the London Olympics, but undoubtedly emerged as a star in her own right. The 18-year-old from Massachusetts hoped to secure not one, but two individual medals in the final day of gymnastics. Was she able to achieve that? Find out below … She did! Raisman nailed her floor exercise routine to win the gold medal, scoring a 15.6 and easily topping silver medalist Catalina Ponor of Romania (15.2). Russia’s Aliya Mustafina took the bronze (14.9). Jordyn Wieber was seventh. “It was the best routine I’ve ever done,” Raisman said afterward. “My coach [Mihai Brestyan] said it was the best routine he’d ever seen me do.” The floor exercise is her strongest event. Less expected was Aly Raisman’s bronze medal not much more than an hour earlier in the balance beam. She initially finished fourth, but took the bronze after winning an appeal with the judges and then a tiebreaker with Ponor. Congratulations, Aly!!

But Lolo Jones had a chance today to quiet the critics and make headlines for her actual exploits on the track. Did the sprinter make up for her 2008 stumble and earn a Medal in today’s 100-meter hurdles? Unfortunately… no. Jones finished in fourth place by one-hundredth of a second, crossing the finish line in 12.58 seconds. But it was still a strong event for the U.S. team: Dawn Harper and Kellie Wells finished in second and third place, respectively. Australia’s Sally Pearson took the Gold with an Olympic record time of 12.35. But might she date Tim Tebow ? See. Jones might end up a winner after all.
Life is good for Olympic heart throb Ryan Lochte. The swimmer celebrated the end of an impressive London games – five medals, two of them gold – and his 28th birthday with night out at Chinawhite nightclub. Lochte partied until nearly 3:30 a.m. before piling into a taxi with friends and various female acquaintances for the ride back to the Olympic Village. Clearly, it’s good to be an Olympic champion … That’s what we call an impressive medley, or something . No word if Lochte, whose mother recently said that he does not have time for girlfriends and has ” one night stands ” instead, had one or more on this night. Taylor Armstrong has finally laid her husband to rest. One year after Russell Armstrong took his own life and Bravo milked every second out of that tragedy for the sake of ratings , sources confirm that Taylor has cremated him and interned Russell’s urn at a plot in Hollywood. “Taylor Armstrong attended the placement of Russell’s urn,” an insider tells Celebuzz. ”She was the only one to attend and left a single flower, at the site. Russell was interred in a classic cross mahogany urn.” Because there had been contention over just where Russell would be buried, another urn containing his ashes was sent to Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton, Texas, the location where his surviving family members – including mother John Ann Hotchkiss – wanted him to rest. Taylor, meanwhile, has been filming the new season of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills . She reportedly suffered a ” catastrophic meltdown ” earlier this summer. She really, really sucks. Following his record-setting run at the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games, Michael Phelps was spotted out celebrating with a “mystery blonde.” Thanks to Hollyscoop , we know that lady’s name, and what she looks like! Here’s Phelps with Megan Rossee, a 25-year-old model and L.A. resident: “She and Phelps began dating in January (of this year) and things started to heat up just prior to the Olympics in London,” says the source. Hilariously, Megan was in a love triangle with Phelps and Lauren Conrad’s ex! “At the time when they began dating, [ The Hills’ ] Doug Reinhardt was crushing on her too, but she chose to be with Michael instead.” According to the celebrity gossip site, Phelps was smitten from the start: “Michael knew that he had to leave for the Olympics and not wanting to give up on their relationship, he flew Megan out to the trials in Omaha, then to London for The Games.” A candid photo of Michael Phelps, girlfriend and medals in hand, shows him celebrating in London and beaming for the camera.
