‘The Amazing Spider-Man’: The Early Reviews Are In!

U.K. critics are divided down the middle on Sony’s ‘Spider-Man’ reboot, starring Andrew Garfield as the friendly neighborhood hero. By Josh Wigler Andrew Garfield in “The Amazing Spider-Man” Photo: Peter Parker swings back into U.S. theaters on July 3 with “The Amazing Spider-Man,” this time played by British up-and-comer Andrew Garfield — and while Stateside critics have stayed hush-hush on their feelings about the “Amazing” reboot for now, our friends across the pond have been more outspoken with their reactions. Several U.K. news outlets including The Guardian and Empire have published their reviews of director Marc Webb’s “Spider-Man” reboot, following the film’s London premiere on Monday. The consensus is not unlike Parker’s own superhero career: rocky at points, healthy at times and flat-out “amazing” in other areas. Keep reading for the good and the bad from the early “Amazing Spider-Man” reviews! Webb & The Web-Spinner “Webb successfully treads a fine line between keeping the hardcore superhero-movie fans happy and injecting a dose of meaningful affect. Parker is generally reckoned to be the most ‘relatable’ figure in the superhero canon, but the pastel-bright synthetics of the earlier movies did little to dispel the sense that the comic-book world could only construct its characters out of clunking great blocks of melodrama. In re-engineering Parker into the introspective, uncertain male more typical of his previous film, Webb is aided by a terrific performance from Andrew Garfield, who brings a genial unflappability that allows him to negotiate the often-ludicrous demands of the superhero plotline. At the same time, Webb also shows an unarguable facility for the more traditional action elements of the story, and the 3D certainly helps: he pulls off some properly nauseating shots as Parker dives off skyscrapers, rescues kids from falling, and the like.” — Andrew Pulver, The Guardian Toning It Down “The shadow of ‘Batman Begins’ looms as ‘Amazing’ opens, the gold standard of origin-skewed reboots riskily invoked. Parker as a child plays games at home, stumbles on some destiny-sealing revelations, loses his parents on a stormy night… A dark roots movie steeped in tragedy? Some ‘untold story,’ that. Webb finds much surer footing as Parker hits high school, helped by crack casting. More confident than the last, this Parker is slick on a skateboard and not shy about standing up to Flash Thompson. The geek just got chic: who better to play him than the guy with the algorithms and rhythm from ‘The Social Network’? A young buck made testy by grief, a rebel without a comb, Garfield nails all bases here, star DNA aglow. Stare-y eyes melting, he’s winningly earnest; lithe of physique, he delivers in the dust-ups; blithely gatecrashing Gwen Stacy’s bedroom, he gives good dreamboat.” — Total Film Love For The Ladies “Then there’s his needle-sharp young girlfriend, Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), who wants to get under his skin even more than that radioactive arachnid did; find out what it is that makes his Spidey-senses tingle. Amid all of the soul-searching and lip-biting, it suddenly struck me: Webb has created the first superhero movie aimed primarily at women. Ever since ‘Twilight’ tipped off Hollywood to the spending power of girls and their mothers, a range of increasingly expensive films aimed at that audience has materialised. Perhaps it was only a matter of time before a superhero suited up with them in mind, although it remains to be seen how die-hard Spider-fans will react to their hero courting a different — some would say rival — demographic.” — Robbie Collin, The Telegraph The Negative Spin “Director Marc Webb aims for a new realism, stripping away the brio of Sam Raimi’s 2002 version with Tobey Maguire. He also dispenses with much of the character and sass that always made this character fun. It’s not Garfield’s fault: he is a convincingly troubled, inarticulate Peter Parker, a springily athletic Spider-Man, and has awesome hair. His greatest enemy is the script. That, and the rather wearisome 3D.” — Nick Curtis, The London Evening Standard The Final Word “Graced with great performances from Garfield and Stone, ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ is a rare comic-book flick that is better at examining relationships than superheroism. If it doesn’t approach the current benchmark of ‘Avengers Assemble,’ it still delivers a different enough, enjoyable origin story to live comfortably alongside the Raimi era.” –Ian Freer, Empire What do you think of the early “Spider-Man” reviews? Exclusive: 2 Chainz Explains ‘Brass Knuckles’ Arrest

Rapper tells MTV News police ‘misconstrued’ his four-finger ring as a weapon. By Rob Markman 2 Chainz Photo: MTV News It’s no secret 2 Chainz loves his jewelry, and while the Atlanta rapper is known to start a riot or two with his raps, he never thought his expensive trinkets would cause such a ruckus. Earlier Tuesday (May 22), 2 Chainz was arrested In New York’s LaGuardia Airport after officials found what they described as “brass knuckles” in his luggage, but it was nothing more than a four-finger ring, the rapper said. “They tried to assassinate my character, they tried to assassinate my swag,” 2 Chainz told MTV News in an exclusive telephone interview. “It was just a negative dilemma earlier where someone misconstrued a piece of jewelry for a weapon and stuff.” Police took Chainz into custody around 1:45 p.m. ET and charged him with misdemeanor possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. “The knuckles were in his personal bag and sounded the alarm,” an officer told MTV News on Tuesday. “I do exclusive pieces. My pieces are actual conversation pieces, like, literally. When you see my gold, when you see my stuff, it’s something to conversate about,” Deuce explained. “People weren’t doing four-finger rings and all that. I just like to set myself apart, so I definitely wasn’t trying to beat nobody up on the airplane or nothing.” The rapper was on his way to perform at a North Carolina concert, and when he phoned MTV from New York’s Teterboro Airport, he estimated that he spent approximately eight to nine hours behind bars. 2 Chainz eventually pleaded guilty to a lesser, unspecified charge but never got his jewels back. “Yeah, they took it from me, they took the Louis [Vuitton] case that I actually keep the jewelry in, they took that. I couldn’t believe it,” he said. “Me just trying to explain it was getting too frustrating, me just trying to explain my occupation and then when they finally got to the jail and everybody knew who I was, then they started calling their kids and putting me on the phone with their kids. It was like a weird experience.” Though he was upset about the situation, 2 Chainz chose to focus on the positive. His debut album, Based on a T.R.U. Story, is set to drop August 14, he is currently on tour with Drake, and he’s involved with Respect My Vote, an initiative that encourages young people to participate in the voting process. Now, 2 Chainz hopes to be able to put the arrest behind him. “I don’t find that intriguing. You’re supposed to make your mistakes during adolescence and use these times right here to kinda fix some of the things you did in the past, so with me I’m doing Respect My Vote, I’m doing all kind of things to try to have some positive news.” Related Artists 2 Chainz

Pink’s New Tits of the Day

As you probably know, it is very possible that Pink was born a man. Throughout her career, pre-staging a pregnancy to debunk rumors that she was a man, she was always fucking ripped and disgusting and any man who openly called her hot or addmitted to getting turned on by her, was one I immediately pegged as on the fence about his homo predisposition and into exploring that world with one tranny at a time, and it might as well be a famous bitch with lots of money… Well, here she is with some tits, that make you wonder if she purchased them as part of her transition, or if they are a result of hormone therapy cuz her husband likes tits along with dick clits and her lack of tit was the reason they divorced before getting back together because she threatened to tell the world thee truth about her gender, only to make him out to be some kind of homo, not something cool in his action sport industry…..or maybe, there is a slight chance she is actually a chick, and having the baby just set off a series of biological things like turning her muscle into fat you want to suck… Then again, maybe it’s all just photoshop…. More importantly….who fucking cares..before today I just assumed Pink was dead…

Kim Kardashian Fat for Instagram of the Day

Kim Kardashian posted these pictures on Instagram and I think she may have censored my wonderful captions….because I went back to the pic this morning and they were gone… I wrote such lovely things like “Fat tits can’t compensate for a fat gut” and “Wow, It is true what they say about horizontal stripes” and shit my favorite “thank god for black men….they’ll eat anything”….but she censored me….she has that power… At least I have a website no one reads for it to live forever…you see that’s why I hate social networks…my genius gets deleted…never to be found again….and if I die a legend…think of all the gold facebook and its members destroyed like idiots… Here she is cockteasing….seeing her choked out is hotter than her porn career…..but knowing her jealous sister won’t go through with it…makes it pretty fucking sad….you see I don’t normally get hard for dead girls, I don’t want you thinking I’m weird or anything…I just get excited when the devil is slaughtered, you know it is for the good of all humanity… No, I don’t like documenting Kim Kardashians’ life, I just anxiously await for it to end….

Mac Miller Shows Growth In Sold-Out New York Concert

‘Now we got all the extra stuff. It’s a different kind of show,’ MC says of Macadelic tour on ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Mac Miller Photo: FilmMagic If Mac Miller ‘s Macadelic mixtape is all about growth, then his new and improved stage show is the visual representation of that. It’s hard to imagine that Mac’s live show could have gotten that much better in the three short months between his Blue Slide Park run and his current Macadelic tour, but the 20-year-old Pittsburgh MC continues to master the stage, as he proved Wednesday night during his sold-out gig at New York City’s Roseland Ballroom. Visually, Mac’s new trippy set design is a step up from the playground theme he used when he was on the road promoting BSP. “It’s cool, man, it’s a different type of thing. We were used to doing like the DJ, me and the hypeman and then that’s it and the homeys,” Mac said when he appeared on “RapFix Live” only hours before he took the stage. “Now we got all the extra stuff. We got like the cool visuals. It’s a different kind of show.” For starters, there was a five-panel video screen that hovered above the stage displaying customized montages for each of the songs that Mac performed. There were colorful LCD lights, raised platforms and a gang of illuminated faux mushrooms on the stage. Miller didn’t reveal all of the props all at once; instead, he pulled back the layers to his set design slowly as the hour-long show progressed. It was just after 9:30 p.m. when DJ Clockwork jumped on the turntables playing “English Lane,” the opening track to Mac’s #1 debut album . Immediately afterward, the star rapper and his hypeman TreeJay stormed out onstage rapping along to “Blue Slide Park.” Miller started out strong, throwing out his club-hopping anthem ” Party on Fifth Ave .” rather early before stopping to address the spirited crowd. “New York City, what the f— is good?” he shouted as the young concertgoers screamed ferociously for their rap hero. “My name is Mac Miller and I appreciate y’all coming out.” It was September 2010 when a then wet-behind-the-ears Mac performed his first show in NYC at the intimate SOB’s, but on Wednesday night he returned a much different MC. Still, the Most Dope General didn’t forget what got him here, so he ran through several songs from his 2010 K.I.D.S. mixtape, including “Don’t Mind if I Do,” “The Spins” and “Kool-Aid & Frozen Pizza.” After he bounced around to the rambunctious ” Knock Knock ,” the stage lights went low and the psychedelic mushroom props started to glow as the Mac emerged from the dark, spitting “Loud.” Since 2011 the energetic performer has rocked more than 200 shows, and while he made sure to roll out all of his fan favorites, he was clearly excited to put his new material on display. He slowed things down for the soul-searching “Thoughts From a Balcony,” “Angels” and “F— ‘Em All” but picked things right up for his set-closing “Donald Trump.” While rapping the words to his gold-selling single, Miller played to the crowd, encouraging a full-throated sing-along. On the song’s hook, Mac promises to “take over the world,” yeah, one concert venue at a time. What is your favorite Mac Miller live performance? Tell us in the comments! Jay-Z Brings Swag To His First-Ever SXSW Solo Show

‘SXSW, you’re welcome!’ MC tells crowd of 2,800 before performing favorites like ’99 Problems’ and ‘Dirt Off Your Shoulder.’ By Kara Warner Jay-Z performs in Austin, Texas on Monday Photo: Thomas Fishman/MTV AUSTIN, Texas — If Jay-Z fans thought his appearance at last year’s South by Southwest Music Festival was a big deal, his first-ever solo performance at Austin City Limits Moody Theater on Monday night (March 12) was the opener to end all opening events, and bodes well for the action-packed week of events to come. Officially entitled the “Amex Sync Show Presenting Jay-Z,” fans around the world were able to take part in the show via its livestream in conjunction with a new Twitter initiative for American Express cardholders. MTV News was lucky enough to score tickets to the highly anticipated event. Jay took the stage shortly after 7:30 p.m. CT, dressed casually except for the gold bling around his neck and wrist, opening with “What More Can I Say?” “SXSW, you’re welcome!” he shouted to a very diverse and enthusiastic crowd of 2,800. This was followed by familiar favorite “Dirt Off Your Shoulder,” which featured the first of countless crowd sing-alongs. As his most dedicated fans have come to expect, the man showcased his serious lyrical skills with a perfect mix of hits new and old. From “99 Problems,” to “Big Pimpin’,” to “Excuse Me Miss” (at the start of which he asked us all to “two step”) to the sweet and sentimental “Glory,” Jay kept the crowd hanging on his every word, manipulating our energy masterfully with mostly up-tempo tracks that kept everyone on their feet. Ever the perfectionist, if Jay stumbled on a word or two in a track or didn’t feel like he was totally on point, he would stop mid-song and re-start, for which he had the crowd’s undying support. “I don’t f— around with the words to my songs, y’all. You came to see a live show right?” In addition to totally rocking the house, Jay seemed to be genuinely having a great time onstage. There were several times during the nearly 90-minute set when we saw him break out into full-on grins. “I’m having a good time tonight I must say,” he told the crowd and then later showed his fans respect by acknowledging their energy. “Y’all going to make me crawl away from here tonight,” he said just before busting into “Encore.” There were diamonds in the sky in Austin tonight for sure.
