Kaley Cuoco Engagement ring picture

“I#39;m engaged,” Kaley Cuoco, 25, said, pausing as the E! host happily congratulated her. Then, she clarified: “I#39;d like you to know who I#39;m engaged to – Chopard, the jewelry designer.” Kaley Cuoco made a big announcement on the red carpet at Sunday#39;s Golden Globes: The Big Bang Theory star told Ryan Seacrest she was engaged – then she took it back. After noticing a major sparkler on her ring finger, Seacrest asked the actress if she had any happy news to share. So, why was the Gold

Friday Box Office: Green Hornet Has Sallow Opening Night, Dilemma Self-Destructs

On the weekend of the Golden Globes, a couple of prize turkeys were trotted out at the box office to little effect. But hey, The King’s Speech opened wide at number four and did okay! Your Friday box office is here.

Critics’ Choice Awards Love The Social Network And Natalie Portman As Much As Everyone Else Did

Last night the Broadcast Film Critics Association doled out their yearly accolades for the best acheivements in film, with many of the usual suspects getting the gold. The Social Network won best picture, Natalie Portman best actress, Colin Firth best actor, and so on (although Inception cleaned up fairly well in the technical categories. Might this be a portent for bigger things?). At this rate, the Golden Globes might be a bit of snoozefest. The full list of winners after the jump.

The LP features production from the former Little Brother star and rhymes from Banner; Ludacris and Estelle also lend their talents to the project. Earlier this summer, Banner told MTV News partnering with 9th Wonder helped him feel rejuvenated about music. “It’s like we playing basketball overseas for the USA and we win the gold,” Banner said about their upcoming project. “That’s how I’m feeling. I’m coming right off of that and going into my next album.” How did these southern hip-hop stars come together? Why didn’t Banner take on any producing duties on Death of a Pop Star ? What do the two college grads think about President Obama’s performance so far? Ask Banner and 9th Wonder yourself by sending messages via Twitter to @MTVRapFix with the hashtag #rapfixlive or upload video messages to the pair at Your.MTV.com. Will California Rush to Mine Gold Again?

photo: goldrushfieldtrips.com California has a history rich in gold, but despite sky high prices, the gold mining industry doesn’t seem positioned for a revival in the state. The price of gold is more than $1363 an ounce, causing some folks in areas near historic lodes to clamor for a renewed mining industry in California. But cultural attitudes have shifted, and residents concerned about the environmental impacts and effects on tourism seem more inclined to preserve mining as a relict of the past. … Read the full story on TreeHugger

Vitamin D proven far better than vaccines at preventing influenza infections

If scientists discovered something that worked better than vaccines at preventing influenza, you'd think they would jump all over it, right? After all, isn't the point to protect children and adults from influenza? A clinical trial led by Mitsuyoshi Urashima and conducted by the Division of Molecular Epidemiology in the the Department of Pediatrics at the Jikei University School of Medicine Minato-ku in Tokyo found that vitamin D was extremely effective at halting influenza infections in children. The trial appears in the March, 2010 issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (Am J Clin Nutr (March 10, 2010). doi:10.3945/ajcn.2009.29094) The results are from a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study involving 334 children, half of which were given 1200 IUs per day of vitamin D3. In other words, this was a “rigorous” scientific study meeting the gold standard of scientific evidence. In the study, while 31 of 167 children in the placebo group contracted influenza over the four month duration of the study, only 18 of 168 children in the vitamin D group did. This means vitamin D was responsible for an absolute reduction of nearly 8 percent. Flu vaccines, according to the latest scientific evidence, achieve a 1 percent reduction in influenza symptoms ( http://www.naturalnews.com/029641_v…) . This means vitamin D appears to be 800% more effective than vaccines at preventing influenza infections in children. To further support this, what really needs to be done is a clinical trial directly comparing vitamin D supplements to influenza vaccines with four total groups: Group #1 receives a vitamin D placebo Group #2 receives real vitamin D (2,000 IUs per day) Group #3 receives an influenza vaccine injection Group #4 receives an inert injection Groups 1 and 2 should be randomized and double blind while groups 3 and 4 should also be randomized and double blind. The results would reveal the comparative effectiveness of vitamin D versus influenza vaccines. Unfortunately, such a trial will never be conducted because vaccine pushers already know this trial would show their vaccines to be all but useless. So they won't subject vaccines to any real science that compares it to vitamin D. Vitamin D also significantly reduced asthma in children Getting back to the study, another fascinating result from the trial is that if you remove those children from the study who were already being given vitamin D by their parents, so that you are only looking at children who started out with no vitamin D supplementation before the trial began, the results look even better as vitamin D reduced relative infection risk by nearly two-thirds. More than six out of ten children who would have normally been infected with influenza, in other words, were protected by vitamin D supplementation. Also revealed in the study: vitamin D strongly suppressed symptoms of asthma. In children with a previous asthma diagnosis, 12 of those receiving no vitamin D experienced asthma attacks. But in the vitamin D group, only 2 children did. While this subset sample size is small, it does offer yet more evidence that vitamin D prevents asthma attacks in children, and this entirely consistent with the previous evidence on vitamin D which shows it to be a powerful nutrient for preventing asthma. Vaccine pushers aren't followers of real science Now, given that vitamin D3 shows such a powerful effect in preventing influenza — with 800% increased efficacy over vaccines — shouldn't CDC officials, doctors and health authorities be rushing to recommend vitamin D before flu season arrives? Of course they should. But they won't. Because for them, it's not about actually preventing influenza and it never has been. The vaccine pushing camp is primarily interested in using influenza as an excuse to vaccinate more people regardless of whether such vaccines are useful (or safe). Even if vitamin D offered 100% protection against all influenza infections, they still wouldn't recommend it. Why? Because they flatly don't believe in nutrition! It runs counter to their med school programming which says that nutrients are useless and only drugs, vaccines and surgery count as real medicine. The vaccine pushers, you see, aren't followers of real science. You could publish a hundred studies proving how vitamin D is many times more effective than vaccines and they still would never recommend it. They are promoters of medical dogma rather than real solutions for patients. They promote vaccines because… well… that's what they've always promoted, and that's what their colleagues promote. And how could so many smart people be wrong, anyway? But that's the history of science: A whole bunch of really smart people turn out to be wrong on a regular basis. That's usually how science advances, by the way: A new idea challenges an old assumption, and after all the defenders of the old (wrong) idea die off, science manages to inch its way forward against the hoots and heckles of a determined dogmatic resistance. Kanye West, Justin Bieber Fans Split On ‘Runaway Love’ Remix

Remix featuring Raekwon has some pop and hip-hop purists on the fence. By Peter de Saint Phalle Justin Bieber Photo: George Pimentel/ WireImage Kanye West forced fanbases to collide on Monday, when he released his Justin Bieber “Runaway Love” remix , featuring Raekwon. What began as a mere social-networking brainstorm, not only utilizes the contemporary pop-chart topping talents of both West and the Beebs, but also features some of Raekwon’s vintage verses from “Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing Ta F— Wit.” So how do loyal fans react when a teen pop sensation, a master producer-turned-rapper and a hip-hop legend combine forces? For the answers, we’ve looked across different blog sites and MTVNews.com to see fan comments and reactions to the new record. While the remix seemed acceptable to most listeners, others thought the blend of Bieber with the two MCs went together like oil and water. McShanful wrote on the hip-hop blog 2dopeboyz.com : “I thought this turned out pretty dope. But judging by the comments, this remix is a fail because Wu-Tang fans don’t want to hear JB on a classic beat. And JB fans don’t know or even care who Raekwon is, nor do they appreciate this classic beat. Nice try, ‘Ye.” Readers on both pop and hip-hop websites couldn’t see the benefit of including Bieber’s song in the collaboration, stating that the current prince of bubble gum discredited the rappers’ integrity. “I’m a hard-core fan of Kanye’s earlier music, but now I honestly think he will do anything if it gives him some fraction of publicity or money,” Leni wrote on JustJared.com . “Justin Bieber? I mean really?” Legacye wrote on on PerezHilton.com : “Oh … dear … lord. That was awful. Kanye’s part of the track sounded fine, but Justin’s music is just TOO tweeny-pop to fit in well with adult R and B. 1/5 from me.” And though Bieber’s collaboration with Ludacris on “Baby” has been a huge hit with his followers, some were less than pleased by this much less pop-flavored track. “OMG !! That is just horrible,” KT wrote on on Popeater.com . “Justin is the only good thing on the song, but you have to sit thru that no talent thug mumbling and talking his way thru the verses before Justin sprinkles his magic on the song. PLEASE Justin don’t team up with these no talent thug rappers because your management says so. All it shows is how much talent you have and how little talent the rappers have. No wonder they all want a piece of Justin’s genius. YAYYY JUSTIN!!” But there were also many positive comments about the new musical frontiers embarked upon by the unlikely trio. “The song actually wasn’t that bad, and as much as I hate to say it, Bieber sounded a little like Michael Jackson,” Ericarbo436 wrote on MTVNews.com. “A young youth, rockin’ the gold tooth!” B

Mel Gibson to Oksana Grigorieva in New Tape: No One Will Believe You!

An excerpt from Mel Gibson rant #6 … Oksana Grigorieva : You are acting as a crazy man right now. And you have been for many many months. And you hit me and you hit her. While she was in my hands. Mel, you are losing your mind. You need medication. Mel: YOU NEED A F*%KING KICK UP THE A$$ FOR BEING A B!TCH C**T GOLD-DIGGING WH@RE!! WITH A [indecipherable] SON, AND I WANT MY CHILD, AND NO ONE WILL BELIEVE YOU! SO F*%K YOU. I’M NOT GIVING YOU MY HOUSE, AND YOU CAN ROT. UNLESS YOU CRAWL BACK AND S–K MY C@CK IN THAT ORDER. Wow . In the sixth tape of the actor losing it on Oksana (follow this link for all the Mel Gibson rants ), he hurls the usual vile insults and appears generally insane. Gibson and Grigorieva are engaged in an increasingly ugly custody fight over their daughter, Lucia, while Mel is under investigation for domestic violence. Mel’s attorneys have suggested that the tapes were recorded without his consent, as well as potentially altered. They also deny he attacked her physically. She claims the tapes – along with a gruesome photo of her bruised face – prove her abuse allegation against him and that he is simply blaming the victim . Gibson’s camp has painted her as a extortionist, and there was apparently a $15 million settlement regarding custody and the tapes that she did not sign. Follow the jump to hear the latest Mel Gibson tape … Mel Gibson Rant #6 What do you think? Is this proof that Mel abused Oksana? Or is the evidence manipulated and/or circumstantial? Whose side are you on?
